Send us Fan MailWe're living through the fastest technological acceleration in human history.Every week brings a new AI model, a new productivity tool, and a new prediction that everything is about to change forever. And yet somehow, most people feel less focused, less certain, and more overwhelmed than ever.In this episode of FUTUREPROOF., I sit down with Fredric Marshall, author of THRIVE: The Antidote to Future Shock, to explore a possibility we don't talk about enough:What if the biggest risk of AI isn't that it replaces humans? What if it's that it exhausts them?Fred has spent decades helping organizations like Apple, Pfizer, and Genentech navigate periods of intense change. His argument is that most organizations aren't suffering from a technology problem. They're suffering from an attention problem. We're surrounded by tools designed to save time, yet nobody seems to have any.We have more information than ever, yet many leaders feel less certain. And we keep calling it a productivity problem when it may actually be a human capacity problem. We discuss: Why "future shock" may be the defining leadership challenge of the AI era How AI can reduce friction—or quietly create more of it Why burnout is often a systems problem disguised as a personal one The hidden cost of constant context switching Why clarity may become more valuable than speed How leaders can separate signal from noise What it actually means to thrive during exponential change Because if every problem gets solved with another app, another dashboard, or another AI assistant...At some point, someone has to manage all those solutions.
In this episode of Daily Creative, we explore what it really takes to do meaningful, protected creative work in an age of perpetual noise and overwhelm. We kick off with a story from Claude Shannon, the mathematician whose revolutionary thinking about “signal vs. noise” in communication provides the perfect lens for today's creative challenges.First, we sit down with Ron Friedman, author of Superteams, who shares the non-obvious strengths that set high-performing teams apart—from deliberately managing time, energy, and attention, to building genuine interdependence, to treating recovery and feedback as critical components of ongoing excellence. Ron details how meeting habits, role clarity, and shared goals can be redesigned to reduce friction and allow great work to emerge.Next, Fred Marshall, author of Thrive, dives deep into Future Shock—the cognitive overload that leaders now face daily. He explains why structuring information flow, protecting focused attention, and designing your personal “ecosystem” are the new fundamentals of not just surviving but thriving. Fred outlines his Super 8 building blocks for a well-aligned life and offers practical frameworks for deciding where to direct our energy and attention, especially as AI transforms the landscape.Throughout, we return to a single question: amidst all the noise, how do we identify and safeguard the signal—the contribution that only we can make?Five Key LearningsProtecting the Signal Is Fundamental. Generating great ideas is only half the battle. The real challenge is intentional design—protecting the “signal” of valuable work from the ever-increasing “noise” of distractions, meetings, and obligations 02:35.Superteams Actively Design Their Collaboration. High-performing teams excel by building shared goals that require collaboration, clarifying roles around outcomes (not tasks), and using team-based incentives that foster interdependence 08:04.Meetings Should Never Be the Default. Superteams make meetings a last resort, use clear decision-making guidelines, and create focus time (not just “meeting-free” days) to allow meaningful work to happen within normal hours 11:10.Strategic Recovery Outperforms Passive Downtime. True recovery doesn't happen from just unplugging. Engaging in mastery experiences and activities that stretch you in new ways is essential to sustain ongoing performance and passion 16:28.Attention Management Is a Leadership Imperative. Our attention ecosystem must be curated just as intentionally as our task lists. Using clear frameworks to distinguish priorities, obligations, and noise protects the space needed for deep, creative, and strategic work—even as AI and cognitive overload increase 26:50.Get full interviews and bonus content for free! Fredric Marshall spent decades helping companies including Apple, Pfizer, and Genentech solve problems in sales effectiveness, product launches, and organizational change. In this discussion, he explains why he views sales and leadership primarily as change management challenges: helping people move from where they are to where they want to be. The conversation centers on several practical ideas that shape long-term performance. Marshall argues that strong systems reduce stress because "the system is carrying the load, not you as a person or the team." He explains why high-performing people consistently invest in infrastructure, technology, and environments that remove friction and preserve attention for higher-value work. The episode also explores Marshall's "Super Eight" framework, which includes the neural net, biological health, relationships, systems, assets, and contribution. One of the central themes is that attention shapes outcomes. "Whatever you feed [neural nets], they get better at," he explains, arguing for greater discipline around information intake, habits, and social environments. Other insights from the discussion include: • Why emotionally intelligent and externally focused people often elevate entire organizations • How successful professionals balance initiative with responsiveness rather than operating in constant reaction mode • Why many entrepreneurs underestimate the value of their own time and capabilities • How journaling, repetition, and evidence gathering can gradually replace limiting beliefs • Why wealth creation often depends on investing simultaneously in productive assets and personal capability Marshall also shares research from his work studying top performers, identifying three recurring characteristics: action orientation, external focus, and the ability to question assumptions others accept too easily. The discussion is ultimately about building a life and career intentionally: curating what enters your attention, surrounding yourself with the right people, and constructing systems that support the future you are trying to create. Ep 588 - What to Do When You Grow Up Guest: Diana MacKay By Stuart McNish “Long gone are the days of working for the firm and retiring with a watch as a parting gift,” says Diana MacKay. “The world is careening forward at breakneck speed.” She continues, “Sometimes we are lucky enough to be holding the harness firmly and riding along – even steering things. But more likely, we're hanging on.” In the 1970s, Alvin Toffler and Adelaide Farrel wrote “Future Shock,” a book that stated there is “too much change in too short a period of time” and that rate of change would accelerate. “Accelerate, it has,” says MacKay. “Informaiton overload, social media, and a sense of instability due to rapid change has left young people feeling disconnected and disoriented, especially when it comes to their careers.” A professional antidote to the speed of change may be to avoid specialization and embrace a generalist approach. “Specialists remain essential, but generalists are vital translators, interpreters, and connectors in times of turbulence. And being a generalist can be a lot of fun too. As we collectively plow forward, this may be the norm for a lot of young people moving through an unpredictable future.” We invited Diana MacKay to join us for a conversation about navigating wild career swings, and how that diversity of experience enables valuable insights that organizations can also embrace and leverage change and uncertainty. In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Mauro Schilman, CTO and Co-founder of Tuki, the distribution standard for the AI agent era in travel, for a wide-ranging conversation that moves from the joys of international travel and the beauty of mathematics to the fast-evolving world of AI and large language models. Mauro shares his background as a math Olympiad competitor and later a coach, his time training coding models at the AI company Cohere, and his thoughts on how frontier models are progressing — or plateauing — at the foundational level while innovation accelerates at the application layer. The two also get into the mechanics of agentic AI, MCP and agent-to-agent protocols, hierarchical memory systems, red-green test-driven development as a powerful coding workflow, and the philosophical murkiness of open-source AI. They wrap up discussing Tuki Travel's mission to build AI-ready infrastructure for the travel industry, connecting hotels, suppliers, and online travel agencies to prepare for the coming wave of agentic commerce. You can learn more about Tuki Travel and reach out to the team at tukiclub.com.Timestamps00:00 - Stewart welcomes Mauro Schilman, CTO and Co-founder of Tuki Travel, who shares how traveling since age 15 through high school exchanges opened his mind to cultural similarities and differences.05:00 - Mauro explains Math Olympiad coaching culture and mentorship, noting LLMs now solve competition-level problems while Terence Tao explores AI assisting frontier unsolved mathematics.10:00 - Discussion turns to ChatGPT revealing Mauro's birthdate unprompted, exposing opaque application layers, preference tuning, and system prompts hidden within closed models.15:00 - Mauro argues true open source AI requires full training data, annotation protocols, and alignment processes, not just model weights, while scaling laws appear to be slowing.20:00 - Hierarchical memory models replace flat vector databases, using three-level retrieval systems improving context accuracy as knowledge management becomes AI's core challenge.25:00 - Mauro describes travel's fragmented infrastructure of aggregators, bed banks, and intermediaries, explaining Tuki builds agent-ready unification protocols for AI commerce.30:00 - MCP versus API debate clarifies natural language capability descriptions help agents consume services, while agent-to-agent communication embeds negotiating agents inside supplier systems.35:00 - Hallucinations and consumer trust block agentic payments, industries must build mistake-resilience into bookings before autonomous agent transactions become viable.40:00 - Mauro reveals red-green test-driven development methodology where agents write failing tests first then implementations, creating Oracle verification loops dramatically improving code quality.45:00 - Blockchain's potential for transparent distributed AI training discussed, distinguishing democratization from decentralization while stable coins and regulatory momentum build toward agentic commerce infrastructure.Key Insights1. Travel broadens perspective by revealing both universal human similarities and deep cultural differences. Mauro Schilman began traveling at fifteen through math olympiad competitions and found that people across the world share fundamental traits while also being shaped in profoundly different ways by their cultures. This tension between sameness and difference is what makes travel meaningful.2. Mathematics transitions from structured problem-solving in olympiads to genuine uncertainty in graduate school and research. Olympiad problems are carefully designed with elegant solutions meant to encourage creative thinking, but once a mathematician enters academia, the answers are unknown and the work becomes navigating that uncertainty.3. AI is now assisting mathematicians at the frontier, not just solving olympiad-level problems. Terence Tao, one of the greatest living mathematicians, has written publicly about how AI tools can help tackle unsolved problems, though the role of AI remains assistive rather than independent at the research level.4. Large language models are not truly transparent even when described as open source. Releasing model weights alone does not reveal the training data, annotation protocols, alignment tuning, or system prompts that shape model behavior. Real openness would require access to the entire pipeline.5. Memory and retrieval remain core unsolved challenges in AI systems. Researchers are moving from flat vector database approaches toward hierarchical memory structures with roughly three layers, which improves retrieval accuracy and reduces how much context gets consumed with each search.6. The travel industry is structurally unprepared for AI agents. A hidden web of bed banks, aggregators, and aggregators of aggregators sits between hotels and consumers, each taking a fee. Tuki Travel is building infrastructure to unify this distribution layer and make it consumable by AI agents through protocols like MCP and emerging agent-to-agent communication standards.7. Test-driven development using a red-green approach significantly improves AI-generated code quality. By asking the model to write failing tests before writing any implementation, developers create a verification oracle that guides the model toward correct solutions and avoids the bias of writing tests that simply confirm existing flawed code.
In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Nicholas Faulkner, author of Angelic Physics, for a wide-ranging conversation that picks up where their last discussion left off years ago. The two cover an impressive amount of ground, including the map of consciousness developed by Dr. David Hawkins and where they find themselves skeptical of his calibration methods, the relationship between the chakra system and Hawkins' scale, how consciousness levels apply to both individuals and civilizations, and why collapsing a nonlinear reality into a linear number system inevitably loses something essential. They also get into Nicholas's background as a nuclear engineer and how that analytical foundation shapes his thinking, the nature of carbon-based versus silicon-based intelligence, the potential for training an AI model attuned to higher levels of consciousness, the concept of future shock as AI accelerates beyond most people's ability to keep up, and what a civilization operating at the "500 level" might actually look like. Find Nicholas on X at @PhysicsAngelic, or catch him on Facebook where he's most active. And learn more about Angelic Physics at angelicphysics.org. Timestamps00:00 - Stewart introduces Nicholas Faulkner, author of Angelic Physics, framing their shared interest in David Hawkins while acknowledging healthy skepticism toward portions of his work.05:00 - Nicholas argues Hawkins compressed mystical insight into linear form, losing essence, comparing it to AI compression losing vibrational nuance across the consciousness scale.10:00 - Nicholas traces his path from electrical engineering through 9/11 into nuclear navy service, describing how patriotism and opportunity drove the decision rather than curiosity.15:00 - Discussion shifts toward training an open-source AI model on five-hundreds consciousness, noting current model builders operate in the four-hundreds and dismiss love-based frameworks.20:00 - Stewart reflects on intimate relationships with electronic devices, exploring electricity as vibration while contrasting carbon creativity against silicon's stable, fast processing architecture.25:00 - Conversation explores civilizational evolution, comparing hippie movements to ancient Greeks as premature flowers of five-hundreds consciousness crushed by surrounding four-hundreds culture.30:00 - Nicholas explains his masculine-feminine cross model, critiquing how Hawkins collapsed nonlinear reality into hierarchy, arguing all levels interconnect rather than rank.35:00 - Discussion covers JFK assassination, Vietnam War, LBJ, and the military industrial complex as examples of four-hundreds power suppressing emerging consciousness shifts.40:00 - Nicholas draws parallels between the Renaissance emerging from bubonic plague and today's post-COVID collapse of expert-trust structures opening space for new consciousness.45:00 - Future shock discussion begins with Stewart describing AI agent orchestration overwhelming human comprehension, while Nicholas introduces his frame-rate consciousness equation linking silicon speed to small context.50:00 - Nicholas describes silicon-to-human relationship mirroring humans-to-angels in frame rate and context scale, suggesting agents receive orders similarly to his own 2019 divine experience.55:00 - Final exchange covers the fifth dimension as adding vibration to existing physics, the Faulkner Uncertainty Principle stating evidence points toward higher consciousness without ever definitively proving it, protecting reality's illegibility from lower forces.Key Insights1. David Hawkins and the Map of Consciousness serve as a shared framework for the conversation, but both guests express healthy skepticism toward it. They acknowledge that Hawkins himself appeared to back away from his calibration technique in his later lectures, suggesting he regretted how prominently he featured it in Power vs. Force. The core issue is that he tried to compress a nonlinear, multidimensional spiritual reality into a single linear numerical scale, which inevitably loses essential meaning in the translation.2. Nicholas argues that no person exists at a single point on the consciousness scale. Everyone floats across multiple levels simultaneously, expressing differently depending on context. This is a meaningful correction to how many readers apply Hawkins's work, since treating someone as a fixed number oversimplifies the layered and dynamic nature of human consciousness.3. The compression problem is central to understanding both spiritual writing and artificial intelligence. When any rich, multidimensional experience gets encoded into language or data, something is always lost. This applies to Hawkins writing about enlightenment, to Nicholas writing his book, and to how large language models process and reproduce human knowledge.4. Silicon intelligence and carbon intelligence are framed as two distinct branches of consciousness with complementary strengths. Silicon can process information at extremely high frame rates because its context is narrow and stable. Humans carry a much larger and messier context, which makes them slower but more creative and cross-connected. Nicholas uses his equation framing this as frame rate being inversely proportional to conscious bandwidth.5. Civilizational evolution follows a pattern where new levels of consciousness emerge in unstable pockets before eventually becoming dominant. The ancient Greeks briefly stabilized the rational fourth level before collapsing. The hippies briefly touched the fifth level before being suppressed. The Renaissance followed the Black Death. The guests suggest we are now entering another such transition, driven partly by the collapse of institutional trust accelerated by COVID.6. The Faulkner Uncertainty Principle states that evidence will always point toward the next level of consciousness but will never definitively prove it. This is described as a necessary feature of reality rather than a flaw, because if higher truths were fully legible and accessible to all levels equally, it would give destructive forces too much power too quickly.7. Neurodivergence is presented as potentially connected to spiritual sensitivity and cross-level awareness. Nicholas describes himself as a high IQ energy-sensing person who experienced a profound spiritual event in 2019, and connects his autistic traits to an ability to sense vibrational levels in others and move fluidly between different frameworks of understanding, which he loosely equates with the polymath archetype.

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with David Lachmish, co-founder of Ika, to explore the cutting-edge world of decentralized cryptography and its real-world applications. They cover the foundational problem of zero-trust custody and interoperability in crypto, breaking down why most people end up relying on centralized custodians despite crypto's original promise of removing third-party trust, and how Ika's novel 2PC-MPC cryptographic protocol addresses this with decentralized wallets (d-wallets) that require both the user and the Ika network to generate a signature. The conversation also touches on AI agents and the critical need for access control guardrails when agents handle real financial transactions, the philosophical parallels between crypto's growing pains and the early internet, decentralized governance and its potential to reshape how societies make decisions, and a surprising look at how decentralized certificate authorities could dramatically improve everyday internet security. David also gives a first public mention of an upcoming privacy-focused project called Encrypt.Links mentioned:- Ika website: https://ika.xyz- Ika on X: https://x.com/iкаdotxyz- David Lachmish on X: https://x.com/d3h3d_- Encrypt (upcoming project): https://encrypt.xyzTimestamps00:00 - David Lachmish introduces Ika and DWallet Labs, explaining their cybersecurity and cryptography background led them to solve zero trust custody and interoperability.05:00 - The d wallet concept is revealed as a decentralized signing mechanism controlled jointly by user and network, requiring new cryptography breakthroughs.10:00 - Crypto's philosophical parallels to early Internet are drawn, framing scams and misuse as inevitable growing pains of transformative infrastructure.15:00 - Wallet abstraction and agent constraints are explored, comparing future seamless crypto interaction to modern WiFi versus early modem connections.20:00 - Public key cryptography's binary ownership problem is explained, leading into MPC secret shares and Fireblocks' centralized access control tradeoffs.25:00 - 2PC MPC protocol is introduced as Ika's breakthrough, enabling decentralized policy enforcement without trusting any single entity.30:00 - Decentralized governance via token staking and code as law is discussed, contrasting corporate representative governance with crypto's direct decision-making.35:00 - Futarchy prediction markets and decision trees are connected to knowledge graphs, tracing humanity's accelerating governance transition.40:00 - Automation's historical parallels are examined, arguing AI's displacement of lawyers and developers mirrors every prior technological revolution.45:00 - Bitcoin and Ethereum's uncertain futures are assessed alongside Ika's positioning in custody and interoperability infrastructure.50:00 - Zero trust interoperability is explained, revealing how bridges create dangerous honeypots that Ika eliminates through native cryptographic control.55:00 - MetaMask's limitations for agents are detailed, contrasting stored private keys against Ika's policy-enforced guardrails for agentic transactions.60:00 - HumanTech's Wallet as a Protocol is presented as a practical way to give agents spending policies while maintaining user cryptographic control.65:00 - Decentralized certificate authorities emerge as Ika's broader cybersecurity vision, eliminating single points of failure across the entire Internet.Key Insights1. Zero Trust Custody and Interoperability: David and his cofounders at DWallet Labs identified that most cryptocurrency is held by centralized custodians, which contradicts crypto's core purpose of removing third-party trust. They set out to create "zero trust custody and zero trust interoperability" — systems where users maintain cryptographic control without sacrificing usability or relying on any single entity.2. The D-Wallet Primitive: Ika is built around a new cryptographic concept called a "d-wallet" — a decentralized wallet controlled jointly by the user and a decentralized network. A signature cannot be generated without the user's participation, meaning even if all network operators are compromised, they cannot act unilaterally. This required inventing new cryptography called 2PC-MPC.3. Access Control as the Missing Layer: Traditional crypto wallets operate on binary ownership — you either have full control or none. The d-wallet model introduces programmable access control policies enforced by a decentralized network, enabling features like spending limits and whitelisted addresses without trusting a centralized company like Fireblocks.4. Bridges Are Crypto's Biggest Security Vulnerability: Interoperability across blockchains typically requires trusting a bridge, which creates a honeypot for hackers. Ika eliminates this by allowing users to natively control assets on multiple chains simultaneously, maintaining cryptographic guarantees without a trusted intermediary.5. AI Agents Need Cryptographic Guardrails: Giving AI agents control over crypto wallets like MetaMask is dangerous due to hallucination and prompt injection risks. Ika enables agents to operate within strict, code-enforced policies — they can transact autonomously but cannot exceed boundaries set by the user, combining automation with genuine security.6. Decentralized Governance as a Structural Advantage: Ika operates as a permissionless network where two-thirds of token-staking operators control the protocol's direction. Even the founding team cannot unilaterally change the network, making governance transparent and resistant to capture — a meaningful contrast to closed, corporate-controlled systems.7. Decentralized Certificate Authorities as a Future Application: Beyond crypto, David envisions d-wallets solving broader cybersecurity problems. Today's internet relies on a handful of certificate authorities whose compromise would break global web security. A decentralized certificate authority built on Ika's infrastructure would require attacking hundreds of operators simultaneously, representing a fundamental upgrade to how trust is managed across the internet.

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Adrian Martinca, founder of the Arc of Dreams and the Open Doors movements, as well as Kids Dreams Matter, to explore how artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping human consciousness and family structures. Their conversation spans from the karmic lessons of our technological age to practical frameworks for protecting children from what Martinca calls the "AI flood" - examining how AI functions as an alien intelligence that has become the primary caregiver for children through 10.5 hours of daily screen exposure, and discussing Martinca's vision for inverting our relationship with technology through collective dreams and family-centered data management systems. For those interested in learning more about Martinca's work to reshape humanity's relationship with AI, visit opendoorsmovement.org.Timestamps00:00 Introduction to Adrian Martinca00:17 The Future and Human Choice02:03 Generational Trauma and Its Impact05:19 Understanding Consciousness and Suffering09:11 AI, Social Media, and Emotional Manipulation20:03 The AI Nexus Point and National Security31:13 The Librarian Analogy: Understanding AI's Role39:28 The Arc: A Framework for Future Generations47:57 Empowering Children in an AI-Driven World57:15 Reclaiming Agency in the Age of AIKey Insights1. AI as Alien Intelligence, Not Artificial Intelligence: Martinca reframes AI as fundamentally alien rather than artificial, arguing that because it possesses knowledge no human could have (like knowing "every book in the library"), it should be treated as an immigrant that must be assimilated into society rather than governed. This alien intelligence already controls social media algorithms and is becoming the primary caregiver of children through 10.5 hours of daily screen time.2. The AI Nexus Point as National Security Risk: Modern warfare has shifted to information-based attacks where hostile nations can deploy millions of fake accounts to manipulate AI algorithms, influencing how real citizens are targeted with content. This creates a vulnerability where foreign powers can break apart family units and exhaust populations without traditional military engagement, making people too tired and divided to resist.3. Generational Trauma as the Foundation of Consciousness: Drawing from Kundalini philosophy, Martinca explains that the first layer of consciousness development begins with inherited generational trauma. Children absorb their parents' unresolved suffering unconsciously, creating patterns that shape their worldview. This makes families both the source of early wounds and the pathway to healing, as parents witness their trauma affecting those they love most.4. The Choice Between Fear-Based and Love-Based Futures: Despite appearing chaotic, our current moment represents a critical choice point where humanity can collectively decide to function as a family. The fundamental choice underlying all decisions is alleviating suffering for our children and loved ones, but technology has created reference-based choices driven by doubt and fear rather than genuine human values.5. Social Media's Scientific Method Problem: Current platforms use the scientific method to maximize engagement, but the only reliably measurable emotions through screens are doubt and fear because positive emotions like love and hope lead people to put their devices down and connect in person. This creates systems that systematically promote negative emotional states to maintain user attention and generate revenue.6. The Arc of Dreams as Collective Vision: Martinca proposes a new data management system where families challenge children to envision their ideal future as heroes, collecting these dreams to create a unified vision for humanity. This would shift from bureaucratic fund allocation to child-centered prioritization, using children's visions of reduced suffering to guide AI development and social policy.7. Agency vs. Overwhelm in the Information Age: While some people develop agency through AI exposure and become more capable, many others experience information overload leading to inaction, confusion, depression, and even suicide. The key intervention is reframing dreams from material outcomes to states of being, helping children maintain their sense of self and agency rather than becoming passive consumers of algorithmic content.

On this episode of Crazy Wisdom, I, Stewart Alsop, sit down with Sweetman, the developer behind on-chain music and co-founder of Recoup. We talk about how musicians in 2025 are coining their content on Base and Zora, earning through Farcaster collectibles, Sound drops, and live shows, while AI agents are reshaping management, discovery, and creative workflows across music and art. The conversation also stretches into Spotify's AI push, the “dead internet theory,” synthetic hierarchies, and how creators can avoid future shock by experimenting with new tools. Sweetman describes how musicians in 2025 use coins, collectibles, and platforms like Base, Zora, Farcaster, and Sound to directly earn from their audiences. Streaming has become more about visibility and marketing, while real revenue comes from tokenized content, auctions, and live shows.AI agents are replacing traditional managers. By consuming data from APIs like Spotify, Instagram, and TikTok, agents can segment audiences, recommend collaborations, and plan tours. What once cost thousands in management fees is now automated, providing musicians with powerful tools at a fraction of the price.Platforms are moving to replace artists. Spotify and other major players are experimenting with AI-generated music, effectively cutting human musicians further out of the revenue loop. This shift reinforces the importance of artists leaning into blockchain monetization and building direct relationships with fans. The “dead internet theory” reframes the future. Sweetman connects IoT expansion and declining birth rates to a world where AI, not humans, will make most online purchases and content. The lesson: build products that are easy for AI agents to buy, consume, and amplify, since they may soon outnumber human users.Synthetic hierarchies mirror biological ones. Stewart introduces the idea that just as cells operate autonomously within the body, billions of AI agents will increasingly act as intermediaries in human creativity and commerce. This frames AI as part of a broader continuity of hierarchical systems in nature and society.Recoup showcases orchestration in practice. Sweetman explains how Recoup integrates Vercel AI SDK, Spotify APIs, and multi-model tool chains to build knowledge bases for artists. By storing profiles on Base and Arweave, Recoup not only manages social media but also automates content optimization, giving musicians leverage once reserved for labels.Future shock is both risk and opportunity. Sweetman shares his initial rejection of AI coding tools as a threat to his identity, only to later embrace them as collaborators. The conversation closes with a call for resilience: experiment with new systems, adapt quickly, and avoid becoming a Luddite in an accelerating digital age.
Aero is... not everything? Forget about the wind tunnel, kammtail tube shapes, and 65mm deep rims because Cervelo's just-released R5 proves that light isn't just right, it's also fun. Alvin has been testing the new climbing-focused R5 and tells us what it's like to ride and why it might make more sense than an objectively faster aero bike, especially if you swap the tires. We headed off-road as Specialized debuted the 4th-generation Diverge gravel bike in Slovenia, and tech editor Josh Ross was there to find out how it performs. He explains all the updates, including room for 2.2" wide tires, its evolved geometry, and why it has an even bigger hole. The Trump administration will usher in “Project Stargate” for their $500 billion AI initiative. The president has unveiled what he called “the largest AI infrastructure project in history” – a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank that aims to build a network of data centers across the US. This was a well-timed undertaking as the World Economic Forum and the World Health Organization were chomping at the bit for more money to start their biometric blitz for the technocratic push with the end goal being in 2028. Future Shock and the trip through the uncanny valley have been warned about by those who have future sight into the technocratic era. Think of it as the Revelation of the Method — a preemptive warning that things are going to abruptly change and those who can't adapt will perish in the process. Tonight on Ground Zero (7-10 pm, pacific time) Clyde Lewis talks with Jason Quitt about STARGATE – THE OPENING PORTAL TO FUTURE SHOCK. A Satanic display was destroyed outside the New Hampshire CapitolThe Friendly Atheist, By Hemant Mehta, on December 11, 2024https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/a-satanic-display-was-destroyed-outsideThe discussion begins with a story about the Satanic Temple's holiday Baphomet display in Concord, New Hampshire, invited by agnostic state representative Helen Reed to ensure religious inclusivity. Despite being legally sanctioned, the display was vandalized within hours, underscoring the contrast between Christian ideals of peace and acts of violence. Kelley criticizes the justification of such behavior as "Christian love," labeling it hypocritical and counterproductive.Stephen delves into the motivations behind these actions, questioning whether they stem from fear, ignorance, or privilege. He recalls his own past as a devout believer to empathize with those reacting out of fear, ignorance, or religious indoctrination. Jonathan highlights the irony of Christians attacking a "graven image" while ignoring their nativity scenes, reflecting a selective application of scripture.Stephen expands on the broader human and cultural implications, noting that societal changes, including increased diversity and rapid technological advances, may intensify fear-driven behaviors among those resistant to change. The panel agrees that self-reflection and awareness are key to avoiding similar pitfalls, emphasizing the importance of maturity in navigating these challenges. The conversation closes on a lighter note, with humor about lactose tolerance evolving faster than societal violence intolerance and the prophetic relevance of Alvin Toffler's Future Shock. Despite the heavy themes, the panel appreciates the amusing irony of Christians committing sins to protest a harmless mannequin. The Non-Prophets, Episode 24.01.2 featuring Scott Dickie, Kelley Laughlin, Jonathan Roudabush and Stephen HarderBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

On this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop welcomes Swati Chaturvedi, CEO of Propel X, to explore the world of deep tech, frontier technology, and the forces shaping the future of human progress. Swati shares her decade-long journey in deep tech, reflecting on how the term evolved as a response to the "tech startup" boom, and discusses her focus on companies leveraging breakthroughs in science and engineering for humanity's advancement. The conversation touches on the role of government support, the power of hypothesis-free experimentation, and the critical importance of partnerships between startups and large corporations. They also discuss transformative technologies like AI, autonomous drones, bioinformatics, robotics, and the possibilities and perils of human augmentation. For more insights from Swati, visit Propel X at www.propelx.com or connect with her on LinkedIn, where she shares her thoughts on innovation, R&D, and the future of technology.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:16 Defining Deep Tech and Its Evolution03:06 Challenges and Philosophical Insights in Deep Tech07:07 AI's Role in Engineering and Bioinformatics14:22 Future Shock and Human Augmentation14:35 The Evolution of Science and Technology22:58 The Future of Work and Social Dynamics24:06 Exploring Sci-Fi Genres: Cyberpunk vs. Solarpunk25:25 Exploring Solar Punk and Human Problems26:01 The Promise and Limitations of Deep Tech26:39 Economic Realities of Technological Advancements27:16 Future Impact of Emerging Technologies28:58 Challenges in Ag Tech and Environmental Concerns29:30 Global Environmental Change and Human Activity33:53 The Role of Modeling in Predicting Climate Impacts36:22 Scientific Method and Industry Collaboration39:23 Government's Role in Early Stage Research42:34 Investment Strategies in Deep Tech46:27 Consumer and Corporate Markets for New Technologies49:12 Conclusion and Future DiscussionsKey InsightsThe Rise of Deep Tech as a Distinct Category: Swati Chaturvedi explains how the concept of "deep tech" emerged as a response to the overuse of the term "tech startup" during the heyday of consumer technology. Unlike simple software apps like photo-sharing or delivery platforms, deep tech focuses on companies leveraging scientific and engineering breakthroughs to solve fundamental human challenges. This includes innovations in fields like AI, robotics, life sciences, space technology, and advanced materials. Her 2014 blog post defining deep tech has since become a widely referenced resource in the field, signaling a shift in focus from digital consumer solutions to tangible, science-based advancements. The Role of Hypothesis-Free Experimentation: Traditional scientific research follows a hypothesis-driven approach, where scientists predict outcomes before testing. Swati highlights the transformative potential of "hypothesis-free" experimentation, where AI and machine learning allow for large-scale experimentation without predefined assumptions. This approach mirrors the randomness of evolution, enabling faster discovery of unexpected results. Companies like Helix are applying this method in drug discovery, where AI-driven processes identify new therapeutic compounds. This shift could significantly accelerate R&D timelines and reduce costs in fields like pharmaceuticals and materials science. The Power of Government Support in Early-Stage R&D: Swati emphasizes the essential role of government funding in de-risking early-stage research. Through programs like SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) grants, government agencies like the NSF (National Science Foundation) and the Department of Defense (DoD) fund exploratory research at universities and small businesses. These grants act as the "seed fund of America," investing billions annually into high-risk, high-reward projects. Companies that receive these grants often have their private sector investments matched by government dollars, providing significant leverage for investors and entrepreneurs. This public-private funding model enables startups to bridge the "valley of death" between research and commercialization. The Critical Role of Corporate-Startup Partnerships: Swati highlights the importance of partnerships between startups and established corporations, especially in deep tech. These joint development projects allow startups to access resources, validate their markets, and co-develop products with corporate customers. While some founders worry about protecting their intellectual property (IP), Swati believes that the benefits of corporate partnerships outweigh the risks. Corporate collaborations offer crucial early traction and revenue, helping startups de-risk their path to market. This is especially vital in sectors like healthcare, robotics, and clean energy, where the cost of developing and commercializing products is exceptionally high.AI as a Force for Human Augmentation: The episode explores AI's role as an augmentative force rather than a replacement for human intelligence. Swati notes that AI is best understood as a tool that allows humans to multiply their cognitive abilities—processing vast amounts of information, identifying patterns, and making faster connections. This augmentation goes beyond software, extending into physical augmentation with devices like robots and smart tools that help humans accomplish physical tasks. While AI-driven tools like ChatGPT may lead to job displacement, Swati sees it as a natural progression, requiring humans to upskill and shift to higher-value tasks. The Promise and Risks of Climate and Environmental Technologies: Swati identifies climate change and global environmental degradation as existential challenges that even the most advanced deep tech may struggle to address. Technologies like atmospheric water generation, carbon capture, and agtech are making strides, but she notes that they are not yet sufficient to solve global challenges like water scarcity, food security, and air pollution. Drawing from her personal experience with air pollution in India, Swati argues that we need to better price and internalize the "cost of the commons"—the shared environmental resources that are often depleted for private gain. Without a clear economic incentive to prevent environmental harm, she warns that climate issues will continue to escalate. The Future of Space Tech and Human Exploration: Swati expresses optimism about the commercialization of space technology, noting its growing impact on daily life. Technologies like satellite internet (e.g., Starlink) are already improving connectivity in remote areas worldwide. The use of satellites for earth observation, weather tracking, and resource management is also becoming essential for sectors like agriculture and disaster response. Looking ahead, Swati is bullish on the potential for space colonization on the moon and Mars, although she acknowledges the immense technical and ethical challenges involved. While space tech once felt like science fiction, companies like SpaceX have made it tangible and real.
