Welcome to the Identity Theft Resource Center's (ITRC's) Weekly Breach Breakdown for June 13, 2025. I'm Alex Achten, Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations of the ITRC. Thanks to Sentilink for supporting the ITRC and this podcast. Each week, we look at the most recent events and trends related to data security and privacy. Today, we will examine a data event that has dominated the headlines for the last two weeks, its implications for consumers and why it highlights the importance of passkey adoption. You've probably heard the phrase “the future is now.” There is a debate over the origin of this term. Some say it was from the back cover of Alvin Toffler's 1970 book “Future Shock.” Some think its origins may be older, stretching back to a speech given by Robert F. Kennedy in 1966 or a similar phrase from Sir Austen Chamberlain in 1936. Regardless of who coined the phrase, it is relevant to our conversation today, as it pertains to findings recently discovered by cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler. How might we design AI not just to personalize learning, but to truly make it personal, enabling each learner to discover and design their own purpose? What would professional development look like if it mirrored the learning experiences we aspire to give young people—human-centered, delightful, and deeply relevant? In this rich and forward-looking conversation on The Learning Future Podcast, host Louka Parry is joined by Sunanna Chand, Executive Director of the Reinvention Lab at Teach For America. Together, they explore the future of learning, focusing on how artificial intelligence (AI), human-centered design, and learning ecosystems can unlock new educational possibilities. Sunanna shares insights into Future Shock, a project-based program that equips young people with the skills to design their own futures—combining interest-based learning with strategic uses of AI. She also reflects on the need to design professional learning for educators with the same joy, relevance, and depth we desire for students. The conversation touches on AI's potential as both a partner and a risk, advocating for technology that enhances human connection rather than replacing it. Together, Louka and Sunanna unpack how we might move from standardized education to personalized, purpose-driven learning while acknowledging the real constraints educators face. They stress the power of networks, radical imagination, and equitable design in reshaping learning for the 21st century. About Sunanna Chand: Sunanna Chand is the Executive Director of the Reinvention Lab at Teach For America, where she leads future-focused R&D efforts to reshape education through design, equity, and innovation. With a background spanning learning ecosystems, human-centered design, and system transformation, she previously led Remake Learning, fostering district-level change through powerful cross-sector networks. A passionate advocate for learner agency and equity, Sunanna explores how tools like AI can support—not supplant—human connection in education. She is a national voice for reimagining what high-quality, personal, and purposeful learning can look like for all young people. Thats right Witches and Warlocks. Our most timely and most contemporary episode ever. Zak and the GAC are in Primm Nevada to rob the corpse of the infamous (because it was shitty) Whisky Pete's casino, and because Zak straight up hates everyone in his crew these days, they had to call Zak's new bestie, "incredibly famous" "comedian" Matt Rife. Join Joel and Erik as we watch Zak and Matt compare their smooth bodies (not as sexy as you would want) as we discuss Ghost Adventures Season 29, Episode 4: Abandoned at Whisky Pete's

Episode 174 Chapter 33, Digital Synthesizers and Samplers. Works Recommended from my book, Electronic and Experimental Music Welcome to the Archive of Electronic Music. This is Thom Holmes. This podcast is produced as a companion to my book, Electronic and Experimental Music, published by Routledge. Each of these episodes corresponds to a chapter in the text and an associated list of recommended works, also called Listen in the text. They provide listening examples of vintage electronic works featured in the text. The works themselves can be enjoyed without the book and I hope that they stand as a chronological survey of important works in the history of electronic music. Be sure to tune-in to other episodes of the podcast where we explore a wide range of electronic music in many styles and genres, all drawn from my archive of vintage recordings. The Trump administration will usher in “Project Stargate” for their $500 billion AI initiative. The president has unveiled what he called “the largest AI infrastructure project in history” – a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank that aims to build a network of data centers across the US. This was a well-timed undertaking as the World Economic Forum and the World Health Organization were chomping at the bit for more money to start their biometric blitz for the technocratic push with the end goal being in 2028. Future Shock and the trip through the uncanny valley have been warned about by those who have future sight into the technocratic era. Think of it as the Revelation of the Method — a preemptive warning that things are going to abruptly change and those who can't adapt will perish in the process. Tonight on Ground Zero (7-10 pm, pacific time) Clyde Lewis talks with Jason Quitt about STARGATE – THE OPENING PORTAL TO FUTURE SHOCK. A Satanic display was destroyed outside the New Hampshire CapitolThe Friendly Atheist, By Hemant Mehta, on December 11, 2024https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/a-satanic-display-was-destroyed-outsideThe discussion begins with a story about the Satanic Temple's holiday Baphomet display in Concord, New Hampshire, invited by agnostic state representative Helen Reed to ensure religious inclusivity. Despite being legally sanctioned, the display was vandalized within hours, underscoring the contrast between Christian ideals of peace and acts of violence. Kelley criticizes the justification of such behavior as "Christian love," labeling it hypocritical and counterproductive.Stephen delves into the motivations behind these actions, questioning whether they stem from fear, ignorance, or privilege. He recalls his own past as a devout believer to empathize with those reacting out of fear, ignorance, or religious indoctrination. Jonathan highlights the irony of Christians attacking a "graven image" while ignoring their nativity scenes, reflecting a selective application of scripture.Stephen expands on the broader human and cultural implications, noting that societal changes, including increased diversity and rapid technological advances, may intensify fear-driven behaviors among those resistant to change. The panel agrees that self-reflection and awareness are key to avoiding similar pitfalls, emphasizing the importance of maturity in navigating these challenges. The conversation closes on a lighter note, with humor about lactose tolerance evolving faster than societal violence intolerance and the prophetic relevance of Alvin Toffler's Future Shock. Despite the heavy themes, the panel appreciates the amusing irony of Christians committing sins to protest a harmless mannequin. The Non-Prophets, Episode 24.01.2 featuring Scott Dickie, Kelley Laughlin, Jonathan Roudabush and Stephen HarderBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

On this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop welcomes Swati Chaturvedi, CEO of Propel X, to explore the world of deep tech, frontier technology, and the forces shaping the future of human progress. Swati shares her decade-long journey in deep tech, reflecting on how the term evolved as a response to the "tech startup" boom, and discusses her focus on companies leveraging breakthroughs in science and engineering for humanity's advancement. The conversation touches on the role of government support, the power of hypothesis-free experimentation, and the critical importance of partnerships between startups and large corporations. They also discuss transformative technologies like AI, autonomous drones, bioinformatics, robotics, and the possibilities and perils of human augmentation. For more insights from Swati, visit Propel X at www.propelx.com or connect with her on LinkedIn, where she shares her thoughts on innovation, R&D, and the future of technology.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:16 Defining Deep Tech and Its Evolution03:06 Challenges and Philosophical Insights in Deep Tech07:07 AI's Role in Engineering and Bioinformatics14:22 Future Shock and Human Augmentation14:35 The Evolution of Science and Technology22:58 The Future of Work and Social Dynamics24:06 Exploring Sci-Fi Genres: Cyberpunk vs. Solarpunk25:25 Exploring Solar Punk and Human Problems26:01 The Promise and Limitations of Deep Tech26:39 Economic Realities of Technological Advancements27:16 Future Impact of Emerging Technologies28:58 Challenges in Ag Tech and Environmental Concerns29:30 Global Environmental Change and Human Activity33:53 The Role of Modeling in Predicting Climate Impacts36:22 Scientific Method and Industry Collaboration39:23 Government's Role in Early Stage Research42:34 Investment Strategies in Deep Tech46:27 Consumer and Corporate Markets for New Technologies49:12 Conclusion and Future DiscussionsKey InsightsThe Rise of Deep Tech as a Distinct Category: Swati Chaturvedi explains how the concept of "deep tech" emerged as a response to the overuse of the term "tech startup" during the heyday of consumer technology. Unlike simple software apps like photo-sharing or delivery platforms, deep tech focuses on companies leveraging scientific and engineering breakthroughs to solve fundamental human challenges. This includes innovations in fields like AI, robotics, life sciences, space technology, and advanced materials. Her 2014 blog post defining deep tech has since become a widely referenced resource in the field, signaling a shift in focus from digital consumer solutions to tangible, science-based advancements. The Role of Hypothesis-Free Experimentation: Traditional scientific research follows a hypothesis-driven approach, where scientists predict outcomes before testing. Swati highlights the transformative potential of "hypothesis-free" experimentation, where AI and machine learning allow for large-scale experimentation without predefined assumptions. This approach mirrors the randomness of evolution, enabling faster discovery of unexpected results. Companies like Helix are applying this method in drug discovery, where AI-driven processes identify new therapeutic compounds. This shift could significantly accelerate R&D timelines and reduce costs in fields like pharmaceuticals and materials science. The Power of Government Support in Early-Stage R&D: Swati emphasizes the essential role of government funding in de-risking early-stage research. Through programs like SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) grants, government agencies like the NSF (National Science Foundation) and the Department of Defense (DoD) fund exploratory research at universities and small businesses. These grants act as the "seed fund of America," investing billions annually into high-risk, high-reward projects. Companies that receive these grants often have their private sector investments matched by government dollars, providing significant leverage for investors and entrepreneurs. This public-private funding model enables startups to bridge the "valley of death" between research and commercialization. The Critical Role of Corporate-Startup Partnerships: Swati highlights the importance of partnerships between startups and established corporations, especially in deep tech. These joint development projects allow startups to access resources, validate their markets, and co-develop products with corporate customers. While some founders worry about protecting their intellectual property (IP), Swati believes that the benefits of corporate partnerships outweigh the risks. Corporate collaborations offer crucial early traction and revenue, helping startups de-risk their path to market. This is especially vital in sectors like healthcare, robotics, and clean energy, where the cost of developing and commercializing products is exceptionally high.AI as a Force for Human Augmentation: The episode explores AI's role as an augmentative force rather than a replacement for human intelligence. Swati notes that AI is best understood as a tool that allows humans to multiply their cognitive abilities—processing vast amounts of information, identifying patterns, and making faster connections. This augmentation goes beyond software, extending into physical augmentation with devices like robots and smart tools that help humans accomplish physical tasks. While AI-driven tools like ChatGPT may lead to job displacement, Swati sees it as a natural progression, requiring humans to upskill and shift to higher-value tasks. The Promise and Risks of Climate and Environmental Technologies: Swati identifies climate change and global environmental degradation as existential challenges that even the most advanced deep tech may struggle to address. Technologies like atmospheric water generation, carbon capture, and agtech are making strides, but she notes that they are not yet sufficient to solve global challenges like water scarcity, food security, and air pollution. Drawing from her personal experience with air pollution in India, Swati argues that we need to better price and internalize the "cost of the commons"—the shared environmental resources that are often depleted for private gain. Without a clear economic incentive to prevent environmental harm, she warns that climate issues will continue to escalate. The Future of Space Tech and Human Exploration: Swati expresses optimism about the commercialization of space technology, noting its growing impact on daily life. Technologies like satellite internet (e.g., Starlink) are already improving connectivity in remote areas worldwide. The use of satellites for earth observation, weather tracking, and resource management is also becoming essential for sectors like agriculture and disaster response. Looking ahead, Swati is bullish on the potential for space colonization on the moon and Mars, although she acknowledges the immense technical and ethical challenges involved. While space tech once felt like science fiction, companies like SpaceX have made it tangible and real.

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop welcomes Leon Coe, founder of Amplify Intelligence, to explore the cutting edge of AI and its practical applications in workflows, agentic systems, and beyond. They discuss the evolution of autonomous agents, the shift toward combining traditional code with large language models, and how these integrations are reshaping both business processes and personal productivity. The conversation touches on the potential for AI to transform repetitive tasks, the role of probabilistic versus deterministic AI models, and Leon's perspective on the future of a more AI-enabled economy. Leon also shares thoughts on balancing creativity with automation, especially for non-technical users, while Stewart probes the deeper implications of our increasingly AI-driven world. To learn more about Leon's work, visit Amplify Intelligence or connect with him on Twitter @LeonJCoe.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:26 Understanding AI Agents02:51 Agentic Workflows vs. Autonomous Agents04:31 Productizing Large Language Models06:56 Challenges and Innovations in AI Adoption10:15 Enhancing Workflows with AI18:30 Technical Insights and Practical Applications25:29 Exploring Future Shock and AI Adoption27:17 The Economic Impact of AI29:01 The Evolution of AI Models31:01 Voice AI and Its Potential34:21 The Role of Social Media in AI Adoption41:01 Historical Perspectives on Media and Misinformation44:28 The Future of Media and AI45:30 Navigating the Digital Age with AI55:10 Concluding Thoughts and Future DiscussionsKey InsightsRedefining AI Agents: Leon introduces a unique perspective on AI agents, emphasizing that they don't have to be fully autonomous or self-directing to be useful. He defines an AI agent as simply the combination of large language models (LLMs) with traditional code, capable of producing workflows and taking actions. This broader view allows businesses to leverage agentic technology today by integrating LLMs into workflows in a controlled, deterministic way, similar to tools like Zapier but with enhanced intelligence.Adoption Challenges for Non-Technical Users: One of the biggest challenges in AI adoption, Leon argues, is bridging the gap between technical and non-technical users. Programmers and those familiar with building digital workflows can push AI's capabilities further by crafting complex queries and structured workflows. However, non-technical users often lack this mental framework, so introducing them to AI involves not only teaching specific tools but also new ways of conceptualizing and using automation to make their lives easier.AI for Personal Productivity and Business Efficiency: Leon explains how AI can revolutionize business workflows by injecting intelligence at different points. For example, an AI-enhanced workflow could automatically extract key insights from meetings, turn transcripts into actionable summaries, and even create custom reports with minimal human intervention. This not only saves time but also minimizes the risk of tasks falling through the cracks, which can improve productivity across entire organizations.Cost Optimization and Model Selection in AI Workflows: In building effective AI applications, choosing the right model and managing costs are essential. Leon illustrates how selecting cheaper, high-performance models, like Gemini Flash instead of more expensive alternatives, can make workflows more efficient and cost-effective. By carefully balancing speed, token limits, and other parameters, companies can optimize their AI usage and control expenses without sacrificing performance. The Future of Databases and Dynamic Information: The conversation explores a potentially transformative shift in data storage and retrieval, where static databases might be replaced by API calls to AI models that generate information dynamically. This approach could allow for more flexible and up-to-date data management, where only critical user data is stored traditionally, and the rest is created on-demand, reducing the need for static databases.Media Evolution and Personalized AI: Leon discusses how AI has the potential to shape media in unprecedented ways by generating hyper-personalized content for users, contrasting with the traditional, one-size-fits-all TV experience. As AI takes media personalization to new levels, it could further fragment audiences, changing how we relate to information and even how we form identities, which were once rooted in collective media experiences.Balancing Consumption and Creation in the Digital Age: Stewart and Leon share insights on moving from passive content consumption to active creation with AI tools. By harnessing AI as a productive force, users can redefine their relationship with digital media, turning social platforms into educational or note-taking spaces rather than time-sinks. Leon's experience with LinkedIn, where he engages by sharing valuable insights rather than merely consuming content, exemplifies this shift, suggesting that AI's real value may lie in its ability to empower individuals to create rather than consume.

A veteran of the jazz, funk, and even disco scenes, Herbie Hancock took a left turn in the 80's to help usher hip hop into the mainstream of pop music, and we're certainly glad that he did. This episode focuses on 1983's "Rockit" and the album Future Shock. There are certain movies that could only have existed in the 80's, and Iron Eagle (1986) is one of them. Starring Jason Gedric and Louis Gossett, Jr., it's a hunk of cheese equally matched by its soundtrack, with a theme song by King Kobra. Feeling Future Shocked? Got the certainty-addiction blues? This episode dives deep into the ever-shifting currents and consequences of work and innovation. Listen to AQ expert Ira S Wolfe and Michael Lee, a maestro of adaptability, creativity, and innovative thinking. Whether you're staring down the barrel of a job change, wrestling with the march of AI and automation, or simply seeking to thrive in our fast-paced world, this episode is your beacon. Here are eight tremendous takeaways you'll learn about the power of adaptability: “Future Shock” published over 50 years ago, warned us about the paralysis that comes with excessive change, and here we are, dealing with that reality as we look towards the future of employment. The tech tsunami is coming for sure. But remember, the 4th and 5th industrial revolutions are set to create more jobs than they wipe out. Ride the wave with adaptability, not get wiped out by it. The ability to adapt, or what we're calling the 'Adaptability Quotient,' will be an essential skill as we face technological changes that disrupt the job market. The greatest challenge for leaders in the future will be to manage not only their own adaptability but to nurture an environment that supports adaptability in their teams. Future-proof your psychology: Understand how acknowledging the Dunning-Kruger effect can lead to monumental personal growth. The mere thought of adaptability is scarier than the actual hustle of change. It's the boogeyman in the closet of our minds. Creativity is no lone wolf; it runs with a pack called ‘innovation and adaptability'. Together, they're the ultimate dream team for the future of work. Adaptability isn't just about grit; it's knowing when to pivot and how to roll with the punches. *** Michael Lee is the Creative Breakthrough Catalyst, a working creative professional who facilitates breakthroughs for leaders and their teams. He is a world-recognized expert in the mindset of innovation and the art of human capacity reinvention, internationally certified as a Master of Creativity and Innovation Coaching and a Master NLP practitioner, and in six other coaching disciplines (Executive, Intercultural, Recovery, Laughter, , as well as a certified Coach Trainer and as ICF ACC, and is one of only three Africans accredited as an Adaptability Quotient (AQai) Professional Practitioner. He is a two time TEDx speaker, writes a regular column on creativity for the Mail and Guardian SA, does a monthly slot on Radio 702, is an Advisory Board Member or World Creativity and Innovation and an EXCO Member of the Creative Community of Practice of the BIC Foundation. He holds an MA from Stanford University and is currently studying for an additional MS in Creativity and Change Leadership from Buffalo State University. He has spoken at numerous creativity conferences and universities (including Buffalo State) on the topics of creativity, innovation, and adaptability. His TV productions have won 5 South African Film and TV Awards, he has directed documentaries and reality shows in the US, Europe, and numerous African countries. In an ever-turbulent world where technology speeds ahead and the economy is a rollercoaster of disruption, this episode of "Geeks, Geezers & Googlization" brings you a critical conversation that slices through the noise. Host Ira S Wolfe, joined by a power panel including Wall Street leaders Mat Van Alstyne, Jim Toes, and John Aidan Byrne dives deep into the seismic shifts rattling the financial services and labor markets. The conversation covers topics from faith and politics to AI, jobs, and immigration. It's a candid discussion that cuts through the noise, offering fresh perspectives on how businesses, leaders, and workers can adapt to the shifting realities of 2024-2025. Here are just a few of the thought-provoking and insightful nuggets you'll hear: The global economy's landscape is shifting so fast, that looking away for a second might mean you've missed a continental drift. Goodbye Europe-centric, hello Asia and Africa! The current economy is a puzzle. Market highs contrast worries about government debt and sustainability. What's your take on this? Immigration's weight on America's job scales is tough to ignore, with everyone from slaughterhouses to Silicon Valley buzzing about its impact. AI's rapid growth demands a pause for thought. Privacy and security issues are at stake as we soar towards a tech-dominated future. Sure, the stock market's hitting some sweet highs, but the health of the economy? Don't believe everything you hear—opinions are split. A tiptoe into the political realm reveals that religion and old-school values are tossing in their two cents on societal strife. Colleges are closing, and trades are rising. Education's response to market demands is shifting. How will this transition affect our workforce? In addition to our Odeon Capital Conversations regulars Mat Van Alstyne and John Aidan Byrne, Jim Toes is a special guest. Jim Toes is President and CEO of the Security Traders Association (STA), a grassroots trade organization that serves individuals employed in the financial services industry. He also was a candidate in New York's third Congressional district to replace ousted Rep. George Santos. Mat Van Alstyne is Co-Founder and Managing Partner, of Odeon Capital Group, a New York-based independent Broker-Dealer with trading, investment banking, and research services, John Aidan Byrne is an experienced Wall Street business journalist and editor and successful podcast host and producer. He hosts the successful Odeon Capital Conversations podcast as well as the popular Dig Life Deep podcast on which I visit each episode for an update on Future Shock 2.0.

In the 1970 book “Future Shock,” futurist Alvin Toffler outlined a vision of post-industrial society in which rapid technological and social changes outstrip the average human's ability to cope. More than half a century later, how does this idea hold up and are contemporary humans victims of future shock? In this episode of Stuff to Blow Your Mind, Robert and Joe discuss how it seems to be panning out. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
