    What does it take to survive the quota-based goals in sales without succumbing to the pressure? In a really tough job market, how do I really get a leg up and make an impression on a contact or hiring manager I don't personally know? In this episode, James Marrone shares with us what he has learned about sales and navigating the job-search as a Director of Sales at Indeed.com. Marrone starts off by telling us his experiences when starting out as an Account Executive, which taught him how to have an impressive resolve and lean on his team at times when clients would reject his efforts to work with him. You will hear a truly honest conversation about what someone who works in sales has to acknowledge and accept about the stress and the pressure of meeting quota-based goals to be successful for yourself and your company. In the second half of the episode, James shares what he's learned about successfully applying for jobs based on his interactions he's had at Indeed, and gives a lot of really great advice on understanding what job descriptions are actually asking for, reaching out for referrals and how both first-time job seekers and career-changers can benefit when taking on some risk and a little bit of fear to get a foot in the door, sometimes literally, when reaching out to hiring managers and potential connections which can be the ultimate boost you're looking for when job searching.

    When a pet does get unfortunately euthanized, how do you navigate and take care of yourself in such an emotionally charged situation? What was it like to start a new career in a new city at the beginning of the Pandemic? In this episode, Xylia Serafy tells her story of as an animal caregiver and Veterinary Technician. Serafy talks about her initial experiences working with wildlife animals on Long Island, but then explains how her work got more complicated and chaotic as she began to help take care of people's pets at the beginning of Covid-19. Serafy goes out of her way to explain to all of you that this field is not playing with cats and dogs all day; rather, it is a field that really stresses the limits of veterinary workers as they try to balance the business needs of running a veterinary clinic with doing everything that they can to take care of their pet patients. Serafy ultimately describes what you'll need to be able to do emotionally to be in this field for the long-run and how you can best support the people who take care of your pets!     Leonel Cazares: The Journey of Mixing Drinks and Running Restaurants

    How do you balance running a restaurant late into the evening while having kids who need you early in the morning? What does it take for a restaurant to be successful when so many fail? How patient do you really need to be when you are waiting on and serving people every day? In this episode, Leonel Cazares is dishing about his journey in the food-service industry which is sixteen years long and counting, and what you need to know about what and who it takes to run a successful restaurant! Cazares reflects on his beginnings, which include claims about bartending classes being a scam and working from 4PM-to-4AM daily. Also, Cazares shines a light on the many Latinx, Spanish-speaking employees in this industry and why they are incredible at their jobs, but are ultimately held back by the domineering influence of the English language. Additionally, while many people have differing ideas on how and when to tip at restaurants, Cazares shares his side, from behind the bar, on tipping and how far those tips keep the lights on in your favorite places to eat, and he ultimately shares what he has learned about patience while having to be patient constantly.     What does it take in order to survive and not be burnt out as a school counselor? What does the counseling process look and sound like in schools? In this episode, Rasaan Bonair shares his personal journey that started in night clubs and culminated with him becoming a successful school counselor for Middle School Students. Bonair recounts his first impression working in schools and how his graduate school experience forced him to confront his biases to help him become as open-minded as possible for his students. Additionally, Bonair explains how the guidance counseling process has to be "chill" at its core for students to open up. Bonair also gets vulnerable on how he he was burnt out as a school counselor during the pandemic, what he has learned about empathy in his role as a Middle School Counselor, and what type of demeanor and personality he thinks is necessary for anyone interested in joining this field.
