A podcast that shines a light on the many crew positions in the film and television industry.
We made it to 10 episodes! i suppose thats not technically an amazing feat, but it makes me happy. This week, Mariam Khwajazada is back again as our co-host (always happy to have her on) and we talk to Associate Producer Aline Robey. I had completely forgotten that we had been working in the industry almost the same amount of time (she's got 3 months on me). We discuss how she made to trek from Hawaii to work through the ranks of Hollywood. We learn about the role associate producing plays behind the scenes, the perks of being a member of the Producer's Guild (hello movie screeners!!) and what it's like to be hugged by a naked Oscar nominee. Welcome back, we've got Episode 9 available for you. This week, we'll be learning about a different area of the filmmaking process, the Production Office. Mariam Khwajazada is back as our guest co-host. Our guest this week is Production Coordinator Emily Thorne. She walks us through the hectic world of keeping a film/television show organized. Emily discusses how it helps to be knowledgable about as many areas of the industry in her position (quite a feat!). We also learn about her father's work as an Oscar winning film composer, her very first job in the industry with her twin sister, and one of the craziest on the job stories you might have ever heard (I was there too, it all really happened!) Episode 8 has arrived! This episode is a lot of fun. We discuss how his get his foot in the door as a writer on Creepshow 3, then the random night on set where he started working in Special Effects, as well as his Horror feature film he's currently developing entitled Moggy Creatures (and you can watch the trailer we discussed here http://www.moggycreatures.com) If you have any follow-up questions about this episode or any other episode, please don't hesitate to contact us on twitter @HWBBpodcast, Facebook https://www.facebook.com/HWBBPodcast, or you can also email us at hollwoodbackbone@gmail.com Thanks for listening and don't forget to rate and review us on iTunes!
It's Tuesday again and we're back for another episode! This week, Co-host Tommy (Tom) Dallas was not available due to his new job and crazy work schedule. He will be back soon. For the next three episodes (At least) our friend Mariam Khwajazada will be stepping in to fill his shoes. Mariam lives and works here in Los Angeles, but not in the film industry (there are a few!). This week, we talk to Dave Kirschner (Sound Mixer) about his many years in the industry. He takes us through how the technology has changed over the course of his career. He describes starting in film in the 1960s, working with filmmakers such as George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. He's traveled all over the world working on various productions, most notably on documentaries. Enjoy Episode 7. Remember to rate and review us on iTunes. Episode 6 and we've returned to the art department. This week, our friend and co-worker Bruce Bellamy sits down with us and discusses the duties of an On-Set Dresser. He also talks about his early days starting out in the film industry in the 80s, working on such films as Boyz in the Hood and The Fabulous Baker Boys (I just really like that movie!), and the disconnect between minorities and below the line job opportunities. Bruce also hosts a very insightful blog about his thoughts on the film industry at https://filmmakersinfo.wordpress.com . We highly recommend his informative musings on what our jobs are like.
