After surviving the sadistic, game-obsessed Le Domas family in the first film, Samara Weaving is back as Grace in “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.” But the girl can't catch a break, as now she has to hide from multiple devil-worshipping families alongside her sister. Tune in to hear us break down this highly-anticipated sequel — from the scenes that had us cracking up, to the ones that made us uncomfortable, and how cool it was seeing several ‘90s horror stars in the same flick.

Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island is one of the most rewatchable psychological thrillers of the 2000s, and on this episode of How I Met Your Monster, we break down exactly why. Set in 1954 at Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, Shutter Island follows U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he investigates the disappearance of a patient from a remote island asylum and slowly loses his grip on what's real. It's a film built on clues hidden in plain sight, unreliable narration, and one of the most satisfying twist endings in modern horror and thriller cinema. We cover the film's five monster reveals, the symbolism of fire and water throughout the story, Scorsese's visual references to Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss," and the real history of trans-orbital lobotomies that gives the film's ending its gut-punch weight. We also dig into the film's place in the Scorsese/DiCaprio collaboration, how it compares to Inception (also released in 2010), and why Shutter Island deserves more awards recognition than it ever received. Other topics include the psychology of trauma and repressed memory, the history of mental health treatment in mid-century America, the true crime case of Andrea Yates, the literary legacy of Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone), and how Scorsese uses classic filmmaking techniques — from Hitchcock-inspired direction to old-school rear projection — to build dread. [School of Movies 2026] The Robert Rodriguez series continues. After Desperado and then From Dusk till Dawn, Robert stayed in the Horror milieu and was shunted onto the Scream bandwagon by his regrettable Dimension Films keepers, the Weinsteins. Written by Kevin Williamson (who wrote Scream and recently directed the seventh in that undying franchise) this one brought a predatory serial killer vibe back to the high school, but with an alien infiltration plot from an earlier script. It's amazing that this one shaped up to be as likable and memorable as it did, and we put that down to Rodriguez and his enthusiastic direction, and the truly stellar cast of talented young people, including newcomer Josh Hartnett (who had only just finished Scream-aping Halloween H20, also from Dimension Films, also with a very familiar Marco Beltrami Score) Clea DuVall (who co-starred in lesbian cult favourite 'But I'm a Cheerleader' the next year), a pre-X-Men Famke Jansen, a pre-Furious Jordana Brewster, the always-fantastic Chris McDonald and Bebe Neuwirth, a T-1000-evoking Robert Patrick, a pre-Daily Show Jon Stewart and a pre-Fellowship Elija Wood. It's The Breakfast Club meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and it had all the cool kids shouting "F*ck you, t*tbags!" along with various other colourful turns of phrase in its dialogue.

John Carpenter's Someone's Watching Me! (1978) is one of the most overlooked thrillers in his filmography, and this week on Cutting Deep into Horror, Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi dig into the tense, creepy made-for-TV shocker Carpenter made right before Halloween. The film stars Lauren Hutton, David Birney, and Adrienne Barbeau, and turns anonymous phone calls, apartment paranoia, and stalker dread into a slow-burn nightmare that still lands. The movie was produced by Warner Bros. Television and aired on NBC on November 29, 1978. In this episode, Henrique and Rachael get into why the movie works so well as a pre-Halloween Carpenter thriller, how it builds suspense out of invasive attention and helplessness, and why its made-for-TV roots actually sharpen the tension instead of softening it. They talk about Lauren Hutton's strong lead performance, Adrienne Barbeau's memorable supporting turn, the movie's stalking setup, its uneasy humor, and the way it taps into fears about privacy, vulnerability, and not being believed. They also explore why this one deserves a much bigger reputation among fans of 1970s horror, psychological thrillers, and John Carpenter deep cuts.Inside this episode:why Someone's Watching Me! feels like a missing link between Carpenter's early work and Halloweenhow the film turns phone harassment, surveillance, and apartment living into effective horrorwhy Lauren Hutton makes such a compelling leadthe importance of Adrienne Barbeau's Sophie and the film's unusually progressive character dynamics for 1978why the movie's TV-thriller format gives it a different but very effective rhythmhow Carpenter creates tension without needing nonstop violence or spectacleFilm details:Year: 1978Director: John CarpenterStarring: Lauren Hutton, David Birney, Adrienne BarbeauRuntime: 97 minutes Where to watch (U.S., this week):Hoopla and available to rent or buy on Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.

About 15 minutes after he had left work, he was driving down U.S. 301, heading for home. The Oscars may have come and gone, the speeches have been made, and the dust has (mostly) settled—but here at Ticket Stubs, we're not quite finished with 2025 just yet. A little late, perhaps, but right on time where it counts, we're officially closing the book on the cinematic year that was with our 3rd Annual Harry Dean Awards—the true final word on awards season. Join us as we take one last affectionate look back at the highs, lows, and, above all else, the most memorable moments in film from the past year. From defining performances and standout directorial efforts to our favorite oddball distinctions, returning legends, and everything in between, we sort through a wide array of categories both heartfelt and slightly irreverent. As always, it all builds toward our ultimate honors: Filmmaker of the Year and Film of the Year. Awards season may have crowned its winners—but now it's our turn to have the final say. As always, please like, subscribe, rate, and review us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and wherever else you listen! Got thoughts or questions? Email us at huffmanbrothersproductions@gmail.com
I want to talk about a face. Specifically, I want to talk about the face you see when you look in the mirror and the face other people see when they look at you, and whether those two faces have ever been the same face, and what happens to a person who discovers, at the age of five, that the answer is no, and that the distance between the two can be closed by reaching out and copying someone else's bone structure onto your own skull. That is the premise of my new novel, The Borrowed Saint: A Horror in Five Skins. A boy named Asa Greer stands in a bathroom in Decker, Ohio, and watches his reflection change. His cheekbones soften. His jaw loses its angles. The space between his eyes widens. For three seconds, maybe four, he is looking at the face of the boy next door on his own head. Then it collapses. His own features rush back. And the bathroom is loud again.

Horror Comics have as much range as the Horror genre in regular fiction books, so I hope you all enjoy our chat and are inspired to walk into your local comic books shop to explore what's out there. I will also have the titles from our chat that are still in print, as well as other favorites, in my Bookshop if you want to support my show as well as independent bookstores nationwide. Today we’re diving headfirst into the fantasy epic based on Enid Blyton's classic series, delivering magical worlds, a massive enchanted tree, and the kind of spectacle that makes you wish your living room was a cinema. While some of the modernised elements split us down the middle, the visual world-building is exactly what we dreamed of as kids. And Em has a review of the new slasher film that’s currently tearing up the cinema. With a Harry Potter fave taking on a wild new role and a plot full of gory surprises, we break down whether this hotel horror delivers or if it's just too bloody for its own good. Is it actually scary? Did Em spend the whole time covering her eyes? And why is this the perfect group cinema experience.Plus, we’ve started the new horror series from the Duffer Brothers - and it’s moodier, more claustrophobic, and far more unsettling than you’d think. It's a high-stakes wedding mystery that is so bingeable you’ll be up until 2am like Laura trying to figure out the twist. Three very different vibes. One very stacked weekend.Love binge-watching TV? Owen (Justice Smith) is a quiet kid on the outskirts of everything — his school, his family, his own life. When he meets Maddy (Jack Haven), a fellow outcast devoted to late-night supernatural TV show The Pink Opaque, something stirs in him that he can't quite name. Together they lose themselves in the show's mythology, its heroes Isabel and Tara battling the dream-warping Mr. Melancholy from within the Midnight Realm. When Maddy disappears and the show gets canceled, Owen finds himself alone in a suburb designed to swallow people whole — watching years pass like seconds.Jane Schoenbrun's I Saw the TV Glow asks what it costs to not know yourself, wrapping that terror in the hypnotic glow of '90s television and the specific dread of adolescence that never ends. Horror film, coming-of-age film, and something harder to name — it builds a portrait of a person burying themselves alive.Lu Etienne and Maxi Breckwoldt join Mike to trace Owen's journey from the bleachers to the Fun Center and beyond, unpacking the film's psychic static, its suburban uncanny, and the question haunting every frame: what if you're already suffocating, and you just don't know it yet?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth
