Episode 9: Oh Hey, We Remembered How To Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 11, 2022 58:44

It's been so long Sam forgot what episode number we were on, but that's been rectified. Anyway, how have you been? What do you want to talk about? Don't answer that, we already recorded. We start talking about whether we've been enjoying baseball through two months, then we swerve pretty hard into some other things, we talk hot dogs, and Jon wraps us up with another fascinating story featuring soccer and Spencer Dinwiddie. However you think it'll go, it's different. As opposed to that unofficial bootleg IABP show you've probably been listening to, this is the real deal Daddy. Mike, Jon, and Sam return just as the MLB season does to give you their thoughts on a whole variety of things. Who wins it all, the road it looks like to get there, all the major awards, even a bunch of stuff Sam made up to pad the show. It's all here and it is a lot of baseball. Happy Opening Weekend! Episode 7: Innovating MLB Through Podcast Discussions

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 11, 2022 78:47

It's noted at the top of the show but this episode was recorded and created before the players and owners agreed on the new CBA Thursday afternoon. That said Mike, Jon, and Sam express some of their thoughts on where the dispute was at the time of recording. There's also quite a bit of discussion about MLB's future philosophically, centering around the concept of innovation within the game and how it's stagnating through mostly the fault of bad hiring practices. We end with story time, as we stumble into a common topic through almost accident. It's a free flowing fun episode that has something for everyone. No, really we swear. This week feels like a throwback with Mike and Jon(Sam is here somewhere) talking about TGFBI starting this week. It's not quite as down and dirty as the old FFF episodes with the two, but if you're pining for some of that content this should give you some good feels. It's a bit shorter than some of our episodes, but considering the circumstances both within the pod and *points at everything in the world* we felt it somewhat appropriate. On this week's episode of the show Mike, Jon, and Sam steer closer into baseball than they have since the show began. It starts with a roundabout talk on the labor situation without actually talking about it. The show then transitions into a bigger conversation with Mike and Jon reminiscing about their first experiences at ball games. It goes from there pretty well from there. This episode has a strong feel of the old FFF episodes the three of us did, so if that's your vibe you're definitely going to want to download this one ASAP. *Glorious horns* A guest has arrived! On this week's episode Mike, Jon, and Sam welcome in friend Michael Ajeto to talk about a whole bevvy of things. The headline here is Mikey's SABR Award nomination for a well written article about player names and assimilation in Major League Baseball. We tackle politics as well, because it wouldn't be a conversation between us without it veering into that area. The show ends on a pair of baseball notes: Mikey gives us what he thinks are the most interesting pitches in baseball so far, and recants the story of his unique relationship with Mariners relief star Paul Sewald. It's a fantastic conversation with one of our favorite people, so pull up a chair and enjoy. Never before has an episode title gimmick and episode content worked so well together, because this week is all about food. Mike, Jon, and Sam talk this week about favorite places they've been, how their upbringing influenced their food habits, their favorite college haunts, and mix in a Super Bowl prediction among other things. At the end of the show, we also reveal the first guest that will appear on next week's episode. If you're looking for a more fun, uplifting experience to the show this is definitely one for you. On this week's episode...well it turned out even longer than last week's "rambling" edition. Yet it's not as rambling...if that makes sense. Mike, Jon, and Sam start off talking baseball with a trivia question that largely stumps two thirds of the show. That moves the show to a conversation about disinformation and how that affects sports in modern times. That's followed up by a discussion of meeting famous people in the wild, where Sam largely leads the pack there. The discussion after that turns in a few different directions, ending with Mike accidentally planning next week's episode amid a discussion of Tim Lincecum and fast food. You get your money's worth out of this episode...which is actually free...huh...that's a thinker. The first real episode has arrived in your ears. Mike, Jon, and Sam kick off the new show in apt fashion: by rambling all over the place for an hour. They start with Covid, as a member of the show recently had it. They move into some philosophical discussion, because what would a fellowship between these three be without it? The highlight of the show is Jon revealing a previously untold story about his honeymoon, which came after discussion of worker rights. Because of course it did. The episode winds to an end with some actual discussion of why we're here, some light fantasy talk, and then ends with the Portland Pickles "controversy." Future episodes will be more focused.
