Justin Townes Earle may have traveled the world as an Americana troubadour, but the story of the singer-songwriter's life can be told in just a few square miles in his native Nashville. In this special episode of Rolling Stone's Nashville Now, Jonathan Bernstein, author of the new authorized biography of Earle, What Do You Do When You're Lonesome, gives us an intimate walking tour of Earle's Nashville, from the park where he found solace to the dive bar where he honed his craft. We also talk about the legacy of Earle, who died in 2020, and why his songs will continue to play on.   Country is Here…Nashville is Now.   Check out our Hear Now playlist on Spotify, updated weekly. The Lonesome Trail Watcher is a quiet, atmospheric Bigfoot story about a solitary boy who discovers an overgrown trail at the edge of his new neighborhood. Drawn back again and again by unexplained sounds and a growing sense of being watched, he slowly realizes the woods are not empty—and that something ancient and intelligent is choosing whether to remain hidden or be seen. It's a story about restraint, respect, and the thin line between curiosity and survival.

I am so often in awe.   Of another being's endurance or grace — perhaps a lover, a river, the sea, or even time itself.   I want to learn how they do it -from borrowing calm, to letting life flow through, to finally resting in stillness and reverence.   To see life as a moving tapestry of happenstances, tragedies or esctasy; living through them, but not allowing any of these to change the essential core of what they are, why they are.   They seem to allow both beauty and pain to go through them - such that they are touched and changed, but not rendered cynical or bitter or stormy or intractable. To be that indestructible rock which is soft to touch; to be that bleeding evening which heals; to be that person who is stubbornly calm and unchanging amidst every provocation we might throw at him.   I want to be that person who recognizes the essential fragrance of the unseen flower or is hurt but does not drive into a town like a storm.   If you liked this poem, consider listening to these other poems on the grace we encounter in our lives -  Her Grace Without Notice Rediscovering Heaven Sipping Tea in a Rumi Morning  Subscribe to my newsletter 'The Uncuts' Follow me on Instagram at @sunilgivesup.
