It's Monday morning, and the chaos from this weekend is still sinking in. Donald Trump now wants to send troops to Portland, Oregon, adding yet another city to his list of targets in this creeping police state. On top of that, we're reeling from two more horrific mass shootings, one at a church in Michigan and another at a waterfront bar in North Carolina. It's a lot to take in, but we're breaking it all down this morning, what it means for our democracy, our safety, and the future of this country. Grab your coffee, because we have a lot to talk about. Tennessee State University students mobbed a group of peaceful “Fearless Debaters” in MAGA hats, forcing them to pack up and leave campus, when their intention was simply to discuss DEI in a civil way. On this episode of “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock explains why the TSU students look like racist white people from the 1950s and '60s and why so many black people in America are racist. Political commentator David Khait joins the show to weigh in on the TSU incident. Later in the show, T.J. Moe and Steve Kim discuss with Whitlock C.J. Stroud upsetting Texans and Astros fans by sporting hats from other teams; Bill Belichick embarrassing himself, again, by appearing on the cover of US Weekly with his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson; broadcasters criticizing Matt Shaw for missing a game to attend Charlie Kirk's memorial; and Keith Olbermann apologizing for threatening Scott Jennings on X, only to continue insulting him online. Cracker Barrel's stock has plummeted, resulting in a near-$100 million loss in value after a new logo was released. The hosts attribute this catastrophic failure to the company's "woke" CEO, who they believe caved to pressure from a 2020 campaign led by a "far-left activist" to cancel the brand for its "racist" feel. They argue that the company's decision to remove the white man from its logo is a symbolic and literal attack on "white men" and traditional American culture. The hosts suggest this move is an example of a broader societal trend where white men are portrayed as "stupid" in media and advertising. The episode explores the backlash from customers and the hosts' belief that this is another sign that the "cancellation" trend is no longer working.

Old Man Movie Summer continues with the hoops playground classic White Men Can't Jump. This show quietly became 33 years old this year which surprised people I mentioned this to - including myself. Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson star as Sidney Deane and Billy Hoyle and from their 1st showdown - nope Sidney wasn't going to Sizzler - their chemistry is electric, even if Wesley's hoop skills were…problematic. The action is fun, the dialogue is snappy, there was a legendary cameo by Marques Johnson and the trash talking was practically its own character. (How was there not a Larry Bird cameo??) Pop in for the fun, pile into the comments and at least give us a Go Big Red. If enough of you tune in tomorrow night, I promise to lower the temp in Omaha and Lincoln by 20 degrees - Promise!!

Documentary maker and journalist Tim Samuels joins The Winston Marshall Show for a thoughtful and challenging conversation on masculinity, identity, and the unique crisis facing white men in the modern West due to DEI. Samuels explores how white working-class men are increasingly left behind—struggling with poor mental health, social disconnection, and a sense of being vilified in mainstream discourse. They discuss the collapse of traditional male roles, the decline of industrial jobs, and the lack of public sympathy for a group often portrayed as privileged, yet facing rising suicide rates and dwindling prospects. All this— forgotten communities, identity taboos, and the silent suffering of men who no longer recognise the world they're in…Watch first episode of 'White Men Can't Work' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-iSxM8Xt8o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------To see more exclusive content and interviews consider subscribing to my substack here: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Substack: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/X: https://twitter.com/mrwinmarshallInsta: https://www.instagram.com/winstonmarshallLinktree: https://linktr.ee/winstonmarshall----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapters0:00 Intro & Context3:14 What Is DEI? This week on Born to Watch, we lace up our Asics, slap on a second singlet, and head to the sun-soaked courts of Venice Beach as we rewind to 1992 with our White Men Can't Jump Review, a film that might be the most gloriously nineties thing we've ever reviewed. From hypercolor hats to bike shorts over trackies, this movie is a time capsule of an era when trash talk was an art form and hustling was a full-time job.Whitey and G Man go deep on this cult classic, remembering their own basketball glory days and how this film shaped their approach to trash talk on and off the court. More than just a sports movie, White Men Can't Jump is a gritty, witty, and surprisingly layered look at addiction, betrayal, and self-destruction, with a side of slam dunks and “yo mama” jokes.Woody Harrelson's Billy Hoyle is the kind of guy who can't get out of his own way, while Wesley Snipes' Sidney Deane has charm, ambition, and just enough hustle to burn his own mates. Together, they're magic on the court, but it's off the court where their flaws truly shine. Gloria, played by Rosie Perez, may be one of the most annoying characters in cinematic history, but she's also a vital part of the film's emotional punch, and maybe, just maybe, part of Billy's downfall. The boys ask the big questions: Is this actually a comedy? Or is it a cleverly disguised tragedy about two men who can't get out of their own way? Is Gloria the real villain? And why does Sidney wear a cycling cap to play basketball? There are critical breakdowns of the basketball action (which holds up surprisingly well), deep dives into the fashion, and stories of real-life trash talk glory from the Narrabeen Fitness Camp days.We cover everything from the impeccable chemistry between Harrelson and Snipes to the deeper themes that still resonate today. And yes, we've got the stats: box office, critical reception, director Ron Shelton's sporting film pedigree, and why this movie may be more about green than black or white. So grab your Gatorade, stretch out like Billy on the sideline, and settle in for a Born to Watch deep cut that'll take you back to a simpler time—when all you needed was a ball, a dream, and someone to hustle.Listen now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts!Join the conversation:Is Billy Hoyle the most frustrating character in sports movie history? Was Gloria's Jeopardy obsession genius or just plain annoying?Who had the better game—Billy or Sydney? Please drop us a voicemail at BornToWatch.com.au and be part of the show!#BornToWatch #WhiteMenCantJump #WesleySnipes #WoodyHarrelson #RosiePerez #90sBasketball #MovieHustle #TrashTalkLegends #RonShelton #MoviePodcast

Domestic politics during the US war in Vietnam are often noted for the extreme divisions between Right and Left, between doves and hawks, and between whites and non-whites. But as Joseph Darda argues in his book, How White Men Won the Culture Wars: A History of Veteran America (University of California Press, 2021), the War in Vietnam helped heal divisions among white men. It created what he calls, “a white racial reunion” that allowed white men to see themselves through the image of the Vietnam War veteran: forgotten and not valued. Of course, not all veterans are white, and not all (or even most) white men are veterans, but as Darda shows the image of the Vietnam War veteran was made to stand in for a range of grievances held by white men. Using a diverse set of texts, from the DSM III to college writing programs to the music of Bruce Springsteen and the movies of Sylvester Stallone, Darda shows how the cultural products of the post-Vietnam War era worked to create an image of white men who were victims of the war, of an uncaring society, and a government that betrayed them. This book is important not just for scholars interested in the US war in Vietnam and its domestic aftermath but also helps us understand contemporary attitudes and political developments involving racial politics, affirmative action/DEI, and how we understand the current generation of veterans from so-called Wars on Terror. Joesph Darda is an Associate Professor of English at Michigan State University. Don't let the Netflix title fool you — there is nothing “adolescent” about this mini-series. In a special episode of "Fearless," Jason reviews the popular Netflix show "Adolescence." What initially appears to be a crime thriller ultimately unfolds into underlying tropes that paint men — specifically white men — in a negative light. The plot follows a young white boy accused of murdering one of his female classmates as detectives attempt to uncover the truth behind the crime. While this premise sounds captivating, in reality, the detectives discover that the young white boy (the alleged culprit) was being cyberbullied by the victim, who repeatedly called him an “incel.” The show further delves into the idea that 80% of women are attracted to only 20% of men, implying that some men will never have the opportunity to indulge in their sexual desires. Whitlock argues that this message is not only a direct attack on white men but also an attack on the patriarchy itself. According to him, feminism is the real issue in this country — women believing they don't need men in their lives while simultaneously benefiting from a world built on the backs of men. "Adolescence" also promotes premature sexual activity, portraying it as the defining measure of a man's worth. Simply put, our world is becoming more perverted. Fortunately, shows like "Fearless" exist to expose destructive narratives like this one. Tune in!
