Guest: Larry Baer, CEO of the San Francisco GiantsIn 1992, Larry Baer was part of the ownership group that bought the San Francisco Giants and successfully prevented the team from being moved to Tampa, Florida. Back then, they had a big problem to solve: An old, uncomfortable ballpark that voters wanted to see replaced, but didn't want to pay for.20 years after the construction and financial success of Candlestick Park's replacement, Oracle Park, Baer — now the CEO of the Giants — embarked on an even bigger project, developing an entire neighborhood near Oracle called Mission Rock. “We're in the baseball business, but really, we're in the media, entertainment, sports, real estate business,” he says. Chapters:(01:05) - Growing up a fan (04:37) - Larry's dad (07:28) - Stopping the move (13:28) - The Giants in 1992 (15:18) - “What am I doing here?” (19:31) - Hiring with urgency (23:34) - Last out to first pitch (27:45) - Buster Posey (30:13) - The Candlestick problem (36:36) - Making a new stadium (43:00) - Always hungry (45:01) - Becoming CEO (49:52) - Homegrown talent (52:55) - The Mission Rock neighborhood (57:27) - Revitalizing San Francisco (01:03:20) - “It all starts here” (01:07:20) - What Oracle Park means (01:09:52) - What “grit” means to Larry Mentioned in this episode: Barry Bonds, Candlestick Park, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Josh Harris, Larry and Bob Tisch, CBS, Peter Magowan and Safeway, Charles Schwab, Don Fisher, Bill Hewlett, Arthur Rock, Charles Johnson, Harmon Burns, Bank of America, Walter Shorenstein, Dianne Feinstein, Bob Lurie, Bobby Bonds, Dennis Gilbert, Roger Craig, Al Rosen, Dusty Baker, Bob Quinn, Brian Sabean, George Steinbrenner, Bob Lillis, Matt Williams, Greg Johnson, the 1994 baseball strike, Chase Manhattan Bank, Warren Hellman, Jimmy Lee, Pacific Bell, Coca-Cola Company, J.T. RUNDOWN Mitch shares a story about leading a successful campaign to reinstate Pat O'Day as the voice of Seafair on a local TV station. Pat O'Day, an expert storyteller, entertained listeners with stories ranging from music icons to quirky medical facts (athlete's foot cure). Updates on Gold Medal Olympians, Novak Djokovic and Scotty Scheffler, watching their emotional reactions. Mitch celebrates local sports achievements, notably Blake Snell's no-hitter and his and Tim Lincecum's unique baseball records. Hotshot expresses frustration with the rules preventing Piper from playing varsity sports immediately after her transfer, revealing plans to challenge these restrictions legally. Seahawks pregame; will Mitch's pent up excitement result in the proverbial pre-season flop? Mitch and Dave Grosby discuss the current state of Seattle sports, focusing on the Mariners' recent performance and the Seahawks' new era under Mike McDonald. Despite a strong starting rotation, Grosby expresses concerns about the Mariners' postseason prospects, suggesting organizational changes if the team fails to make the playoffs. Shifting to the Seahawks, Grosby shares his reluctance about preseason football but shows interest in the new coaching strategies and player adaptations. Mitch hosts the Seahawks no-table, featuring insights from ESPN's Brady Henderson and Hawk blogger Brian Nemhauser. Player spotlights include Jake Bobo's impressive catches and potential rise in the receiver ranks, and DK Metcalf's standout camp performance, suggesting a peak season ahead. Mitch discusses the Mariners' recent performance with Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas. The Mariners scored 57 runs in eight games, a significant increase from their previous performances, attributed partly to new additions like Randy Arozarena and Justin Turner. Joe praises the trade deadline moves, emphasizing their impact on reducing the team's strikeout rates and boosting offensive productivity. Brady highlights the Astros' recent slowdown, which has helped the Mariners keep pace in the division race despite occasional losses. The Other Stuff Segment dives deep into Olympic wins, and gender controversy. this is a comedy ""podcast"" btw believe it or not. It is a joke, it is parody, it is satire. It is not serious; it is not meant to be taken seriously. I do not condone the physical harming or even light harassment of real estate agents in any way shape or form. Do not call, text, or email Jeffrey Doussan or Keller Williams of New Orleans. Do not write funny bad reviews on yelp or google or furnished finder. Do not send pipe bombs or bomb threats to his house or any of his listed properties. I mean it! If you do any of these things you will be banned from podcasts forever. Thank you enjoy the show. Looking at rentals is really fun cuz real estate agents and property managers are some of the most redacted and oblivious people you have to trust with your livelihood. Recently I had scheduled to see a place and the guy no showed, no contact I messaged and emailed him multiple times and 3 days later he texted "apologies out of town." He then proceeds to try to reschedule immediately for the next day at 11am I say can we do 2pm he says no we can't let's do Monday 2pm I say okay Monday 2pm he says great I say great and then he says actually we can do tomorrow Friday 2pm i say perfect cool then Friday at 11am he says you must think we're crazy but we're actually just short-handed can you do monday 2pm and then i showed up today Monday at 2pm and the guy is 10 minutes late, I text the guy and he said "oh Philip's not there?" Philip the minion shows up within 1 minute of me texting, Philip says haha it's good thing our office is right around the corner and he points to a building literally right behind the rental and gives me the dorkiest fcking smile and I want to drown Philip in a puddle. We go to open the door and he doesn't have the right keypad code. I stand around in the rain for about 5 minutes while he calls and texts people and then he's like oh we can just try the other side of the duplex and I asked if the other side is the same layout and price and furnishings and he said no so I said no and so we sat in the rain for another 5 minutes and he finally gets the code and we go in. It looks like the last tenant had just left, all the lights and tvs are on and trash cans full, poop splatters on the toilet and it smells like cat piss. Despite this, I message the property manager that I am interested and would like to move forward with my application and he likes my message and says nothing else. $1400/month. a few years ago, a property manager was stunned that I requested to inspect the house before signing a legal document that said we conducted an inspection and told me I was the first person to ever do so. He addressed me as "Gay bro" in a text and it was never acknowledged $1754/month 440 sq feet #italiano #realestateagent #propertymanagement When you were investing in real estate, I studied the blade. When you were having open houses, I mastered the blockchain. While you wasted your days at the bank in pursuit of equity, I cultivated inner strength. And now that the world is on fire and the barbarians are at the gate you have the audacity to come to me for rent. It's free! Real estate! We're giving you land! It's free. We're giving you a house. The underdog podcast needed to sit down with the underdog guy. Tyler O'Shea is a kindred spirit for the Moonlighters out there. O'Shea is researching, writing, and podcasting as he builds his own underdog story with Jokermag.com. Tyler O'Shea has built an incredible underdog storytelling machine. Now, he joins us at the Moonlight Show to break down his top 5 underdog stories from 2022. His list spans the USFL to the NFL and FedEx to the MLB. Tyler O'Shea and Joker Mag know their underdogs, and he came to share. Tyler O'Shea's career on the baseball diamond got off to a rocky start. After getting cut from his 7th-grade baseball team, the undersized 13-year-old looked to some little big leaguers for motivation to continue to chase success on the baseball field. Names like Chase Utley, Dustin Pedroia, and Tim Lincecum were exemplars of the adage, “it's not the size of the dog in the fight.” O'Shea stuck with it through being a reserve in 8th grade, working his way into the varsity lineup by the time he was an upperclassman. He finished his career playing college baseball at Division III McDaniel College. Now, O'Shea is telling underdog stories with the Joker Mag Podcast and JokerMag.com. Whereas the Moonlight Graham Show prides itself on our Iowa roots, O'Shea and Joker Mag tell stories from across the country, all sports, all levels, and provide incredible deep dives on their website. Their articles see 40,000+ readers a month. O'Shea's athletic journey drew him to underdogs, and now he makes telling those stories part of his own.

This episode of the benches cleared podcast we go over the Dodgers perfect week, sweeping the Padres and Twins extending their streak to 10. Securing the best record in baseball and extending by their lead. The Giants sweep the As but lose the series to the Padres. Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
A San Francisco Giants offense that was already looking questionable is without two of its likely Opening Day starters. LaMonte Wade Jr. and Evan Longoria will start the season on the injured list. Where should the Giants go from here?Neither injury looks to be extremely serious, with Longoria having a minor surgery on his right index finger that will lead to him immobilizing the finger for at least 10 days. Wade Jr. has swelling and a bone bruise in his knee, and he will be re-evaluated in 10 days. It's not like the Giants to make big, reactionary moves in a panic, so don't expect major changes because of these injuries. However, it's clear that the Giants' depth is already being stretched thin and the season hasn't even started. Michael Conforto is still a free agent, José Ramírez may be available in a trade, and there are several other options the Giants could turn to in order to fill these voids. Also discussed is the announcement that Logan Webb will be the Giants' Opening Day starter. For Webb, he joins other homegrown starters such as Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum, and Matt Cain to get the Opening Day nod.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

He has a new album coming out in Mid-April coming at us with another Lo-Fi (as I describe) flow. We discuss the Melon Heads, local urban legend with a compelling backstory leading to an almost plausible outcome. That outcome being botched surgery victims with enlarged heads being set free to the woods of Allegan, MI and still roam them to this day. We also spend a chunk of time on sports. Rarely does that become a topic on this show so its nice to talk once in a while. This was about Tim Lincecum missing the 1st ballot for the HOF. Effectively ending his chances of making it. Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick joins Locked On Diamondbacks host Millard Thomas to discuss all things San Francisco Giants Hall of Fame. With Barry Bonds falling off the ballot recently, Ben and Millard discuss the writers keeping him out of Cooperstown, and if it makes sense. They talk about David Ortiz getting in on the first ballot despite him reportedly testing positive for a PED in 2003. The process doesn't appear to be fair at all, and Ben's opinion is that we don't know who was using and who wasn't, so the writers really shouldn't pick and choose based on suspected PED use.Ben and Millard also talk about the careers of Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. Lincecum, of course, burst onto the scene in the late 2000s and quickly became the best pitcher in the game. He won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in 2008 and 2009, and he looked to be on a Hall of Fame trajectory. But then his career went sideways in a hurry. Ben explains to Millard that Lincecum quickly and consistently lost velocity on his fastball due to hip issues, and once the velocity was diminished everything fell apart.Similarly, Matt Cain was a solidly above-average pitcher for many years for the Giants, yet he abruptly fell off a cliff around the same time as Lincecum. Ben adds that Cain also dealt with numerous injuries and diminished velocity during his decline. Finally, the two talk about the Hall of Fame candidacies of Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey, both of whom probably have a better shot than Lincecum or Cain. Ben believes Bumgarner is probably not a Hall of Famer, but that Posey will be the one player to get in for the Giants this century, despite having so much individual and team success since 2000.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Have a seat and settle in for yet another episode of locked out baseball podcast talk, this time, with a little more actual news than usual. Join Adam, Brian, and Noah, as they cover the Hall of Fame ballots, the possibility of MLB robo umps, and some upcoming prospects that each of us think are worth paying attention to. It's a shockingly informative episode considering what little news we actually have about the state of the lockout negotiations. It's also a great episode for hot take opinions and angry ranting about why certain undeniably legendary players are not in the Hall of Fame. Have a good listen, and let us know on Twitter or Instagram why you think Tim Lincecum should have been a first ballot hall of famer and what position you think San Francisco Giants' legend Jeff Kent played (hint, it's not what Brian thinks).
Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick details the latest from around Major League Baseball. The MLB Players Association and MLB met in person in Manhattan on Monday and Tuesday, marking significant progress from the weeks of no substantive meetings between the two sides since the lockout began on Dec. 2. In its counterproposal to the league, the MLBPA held firm on its push for two-year arbitration eligibility, a substantially increased Competitive Balance Tax threshold, and cuts to revenue sharing. Notably, the league lowered its proposed cut from $100 million to $30 million in its latest offer. The players' side also proposed a substantial increase to the league minimum salary, to $775,000.Ben also discusses Kevin Gausman's tweet over the weekend, in which he declared that the San Francisco Giants never made him a contract offer this offseason. Gausman ultimately signed a five-year, $110 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. Ben dives into why the Giants may not have made him an offer. It's plausible that Gausman's representation made it clear that their client was seeking to maximize total dollars, and that the Giants were more interested in a shorter-term deal with a higher average annual value. Finally, Ben discusses the Hall of Fame vote, which is set to be announced today. Barry Bonds, Jeff Kent, and Tim Lincecum are the names to watch for Giants fans. The threshold to get in is 75% of the vote; last year, Bonds received 61.8%. This is Bonds' final year of eligibility. Kent has two more years counting this one, and his highest total was in the low-30s. This is Lincecum's first year on the ballot, and he is very unlikely to ever get in. But the number to watch is 5%: that's what Lincecum needs today in order to remain on the ballot next year.Follow & Subscribe to the Locked On Giants Podcast on these platforms

Imagining an alternate reality in which the Giants didn't select Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner, and Buster Posey with their first-round picks in the 2006-08 MLB draft. It's a scary alternate universe, but it's not that hard to imagine. Mock drafts had the Giants selecting Daniel Bard in '06, Casey Weathers in '07, and Justin Smoak in '08. It's clear that without any of Lincecum, Bumgarner, and Posey, the Giants don't win one championship, let alone three. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
