They are organizing a fund raising dinner for co-workers Margie Young and Tianna Hansen, who have recently been diagnosed with cancer. The Roast Beef or Chicken dinner will be served for $20, with $5 going to the effort. The event will be held on Sunday, April 12 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Wiota Steakhouse. You can dine-in or carry out. Bank employees will be working for tips that will go to the fund raiser.

2023 saw a 4-5 campaign for the Clarke Indians football program and a quick exit out of the 2A postseason with a 42-7 loss against Roland-Story. In just a year a lot has changed for Clarke including the hiring of their new Head Coach Justin Clutter. Coach Clutter sees a lot of potential within his team and how their underclassman brings a lot of promise in the future. https://www.kjan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/clarke-strength.mp3 Coach Clutter is also enthusiastic about the attendance he has seen in the weight room from most of his squad over the summer. That high attendance has helped Clarke get stronger and bigger. Players like sophomore Urijah Fry have taken advantage of the summer workouts and earned a starting spot. https://www.kjan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/clarke-fry.mp3 The Indians offensive line has also dedicated large amounts of time to summer workouts with high attendance in hope of increasing their power and brawn. https://www.kjan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/clarke-o-line.mp3 Clarke is familiar with Atlantic as the Indians fell to the Trojans 47-33 over a year ago. The 2023-2024 season for Riverside Softball ended in a 7-2 loss to Earlham in the class 1A-Region 2 semifinal and with an overall record of (20-12). No coach wants their team to end the year on a loss and that is especially true for Riverside Head Coach Lacie Patterson. However, coach Patterson did comment on the pride she felt from the tenacity that her team held throughout the entire season. https://www.kjan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/riv-competitive-nature.mp3 The Bulldogs stayed true to their never give up mentality and it led to a few highlight victories against some of the better softball teams in southwest Iowa. Two big comeback wins for Riverside on the year was a 6-5 triumph over Griswold and a 2-1 prevail against Woodbine. https://www.kjan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/riv-highlight-games.mp3 Things look promising for Riverside softball next year as the team had no seniors in their starting lineup. The Bulldogs have plenty of skill to go around like eighth grade pitcher Peyton Schafer who showed some tremendous improvement throughout the year. Schafer had a season record of 18-8, 137 strikeouts, opponents' batting average of .204, and an ERA of 2.91. https://www.kjan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/riv-8th-grade-pitcher.mp3 Schafer was not the only Riverside athlete that stood out to coach Patterson with their development. Freshman Kayden Schnak led the team in homeruns with 5 and in RBIs at 37. Sydney Somers contributed with 18 hits and 13 walks. Lastly, Adaline Martens who had 20 hits and 12 RBIs.
