The prophets, apostles, angels, and even the Holy Spirit Himself have as the focus of their interest and attention the gospel of our salvation.  Peter challenges us as "elect exiles" being sanctified through trials to have that same edifying, empowering, calming, happy-making focus on our salvation.  If the gospel is the focus of God, angels, and the best of men, wisdom dictates God's people have that same focus. Peter says his readers are "obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls".  But how can Christians living through trial be said to be obtaining salvation?  Isn't salvation something that happened in the past, when they were converted?  In this sermon, we examine the ordo salutis to understand exactly which element(s) of our salvation we are presently "obtaining."

Peter marvels at the love and faith of His readers in a Savior they have never seen and do not see now. What makes our obedient love and absolute trust in Christ so commendable to Peter? It's the fact that the object of our love and faith, the unseen Savior, does not communicate with us outside of His word.
