Jesus Is the Hero of the Story – Week 7The Unlimited Mercy of God (Jonah 1–4)When we limit who we show mercy to, we limit our experience of God's mercy. In Jonah's story, we see how prejudice can lead us to disobedience, blind us to our need for grace, and keep us from celebrating what God delights in. But through Jesus, we're offered a better way. He obeyed perfectly, saved us knowingly, and gives us a new heart so we can reflect His mercy to a world that desperately needs it.
In the story of Jonah, we encounter a powerful narrative about our human tendency to resist God's call. This timeless tale isn't just about a man swallowed by a fish; it's a mirror reflecting our own struggles with obedience and faith. How often do we, like Jonah, run from God's instructions or ignore His voice? This series challenges us to examine our hearts and recognize the moments when we stubbornly refuse to heed God's direction. Yet, amidst our rebellion, we discover the beautiful truth of God's relentless grace. No matter how far we run, His love pursues us, offering mercy and second chances. As we journey through Jonah's story, we're invited to reflect on our own responses to God's call and to open ourselves to the transformative power of His unwavering love.

though it be true, blessedly and gloriously true, that God's mercy "endureth for ever," yet we must observe carefully the objects to whom His "mercy" is shown. Even the casting of the reprobate into the Lake of Fire is an act of mercy. The punishment of the wicked is to be contemplated from a threefold viewpoint. From God's side, it is an act of justice, vindicating His honour. The mercy of God is never shown to the prejudice of His holiness and righteousness.

Mercy is unlimited, unstopable goodness of God. it is unmerited goodness of God in our daily lives.
In this illuminating episode of our podcast, we delve deep into the profound and transformative concept of God's mercy. What does it truly mean to experience mercy, and why is it essential in our lives? We begin our exploration by unpacking the nature of mercy and how it intertwines with the idea of sin. By understanding our sinful nature, our need for mercy, we set the stage to discuss the unparalleled gift that Jesus offers through His sacrifice on the Cross.A significant portion of our discussion centers around the Cross, where we reflect on the unparalleled gift that Jesus offers through His sacrifice. We'll unpack the profound implications of how He paid our debt, wiped our slate clean, and graciously credited us with His righteousness, enabling us to be reconciled with the Father. This remarkable act of grace is what sets Christianity apart from all other faiths and belief systems, providing a pathway to a deep, meaningful relationship with God.But our conversation doesn't stop there. We also contemplate how being recipients of God's mercy should inspire our daily lives and interactions with those around us. As we reflect on our own experiences of forgiveness and grace, we encourage listeners to consider how they can embody these qualities in their own relationships, creating a ripple effect that showcases the character of our Heavenly Father. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion that will challenge and inspire you to live out the mercy you've received, ultimately shining a light on the beauty of the Gospel in a world that needs it more than ever.

This Sunday's Inspirational Message is: The Majesty and Mercy of God Psalm 8, penned by David, is a masterpiece—a song that captures the wonder of God's creation and the astonishing truth that He cares deeply for us. Picture David, the shepherd-king, lying under a vast night sky, stars twinkling above, his heart overflowing with awe. In just nine verses, he weaves together praise for God's glory and humility at God's love for humanity. This psalm isn't just poetry; it's a guide for how we live today, right here in Argyle, Minnesota. In today's sermon, we'll explore three life-changing truths: how to marvel at the glory of God's creation, how to embrace the sacred purpose He's entrusted to us, and how to cultivate a heart of gratitude for His constant care. You'll walk away with practical, actionable steps to bring these truths into your daily life—whether it's pausing to praise God in nature, serving His world with intention, or giving thanks even in tough seasons. * * * * * Once again, thanks for joining us in our time of worshiping the Lord through His Word! Pastor Bill talks about how true healing comes from Jesus, and that is how we move from a storm into a Kingdom climate.
Titus 3:5, "He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." What a thunderbolt of truth strikes the heart from this glorious verse! In a world intoxicated with self-worth and self-promotion, God's Word cuts through the fog with divine clarity: "He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." Salvation is not a wage paid for moral effort--it is a free and sovereign act of divine pity. The apostle Paul, writing to Titus, draws a sharp line between human righteousness and divine mercy. The contrast is absolute. We were not saved because of our works--not even the best of them. Our supposed righteousness, is but filthy rags in the sight of a thrice-holy God (Isaiah 64:6). Indeed, we were by nature dead in sin, enemies of God, incapable of any spiritual good (Romans 3:10-12; Ephesians 2:1-3). If salvation depended on anything in us, none would be saved. But praise be to God, salvation depends entirely on Him who is rich in mercy! Mercy is God's holy compassion flowing from His sovereign will--not His obligation. He is not moved by anything in the sinner, but only by what is in Himself--His love, His goodness, His eternal purpose. It was "because of His mercy" that He stooped down to rescue a lost and ruined people. Mercy sought us, mercy bought us, and mercy keeps us. Not our tears, not our prayers, not our repentance, not even our faith--none of these originate salvation. All are the fruit of God's mercy, not the root. This humbles the pride of man. It shuts every boasting mouth. It leaves us no ground to glory in ourselves. The only song we can sing is, "Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us--but to You

"The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy." Psalm 103:8Mercy is God's tender-hearted compassion toward the miserable and the guilty. It is the pity of a holy God stooping down to the helpless sinner--not because He must, but because He delights to. Mercy is the overflow of His eternal love—relieving the wretched, pardoning the guilty, and raising the fallen. From the beginning, God's mercy has been on display. It spared Adam and Eve in the garden. It delivered Israel from bondage in Egypt. It sent prophets to warn the rebellious nation. And in the fullness of time, it sent the Savior to redeem His people. Mercy is not a reluctant gesture—it is the joy of God's heart. "God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ!" Ephesians 2:4-5. God's mercy is not exhausted by repeated sins, nor limited by the depth of our guilt. The dying thief found mercy in his final breath—and so may any who call on the Lord.Yet God's mercy never sets aside His justice. It does not sweep sin under the rug—it satisfies God's justice. This is the wonder of the cross--where divine justice was upheld, and mercy was poured out. God did not overlook our sin—He condemned it in Christ. At Calvary, mercy and justice met; righteousness and peace kissed! Psalm 85:10If we have received such undeserved mercy, then how can we withhold it from others? Shall we, who have been forgiven much, remain unmerciful? Let us be as our Father—kind, compassionate, and forgiving. And let us never forget: we stand by mercy alone. Here is our hope and our song—that God delights in mer
God is consistently merciful, this is His nature. We see many instances in the Bible. In the story of Nineveh, in the psalms David wrote; God is Just, slow to anger and merciful in spite of the inconsistent nature of man. The ultimate show of His Mercy is in the salvation story. Now in prayers, when we see how helpless and frail we are as humans, we must rely on the mercy of God.Listen to this teaching on the merciful nature of God and how it plays out in prayer.

In this week's message, we explore how Jesus used parables—simple, surprising, and often unsettling stories—to open our eyes to a radically different way of living under God's reign by focusing on The Prodigal Son and The Good Samaritan. These timeless stories reveal the extravagant mercy of God—and challenge us to extend that same mercy to others, even those we might find difficult to love.
