A space where Becks, Kels, and Kirby dissect and discuss Kacchako multichapter fanfiction.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby are back to recap and discuss The Necromancer's Fate. This chapter is stressful one for sure as we finally get to see what Ochako has been up to, especially since it's out of the frying pan and into the fire for her. Although Dabi has been bad enough, everything gets much, much worse when Shigaraki makes an appearance. We get some insight into necromancy and what he's been planning, as well as a earth-shattering revelation on events that have already passed.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to (finally) recap and discuss Two Bakugous. All aboard the angst train as we explore the emotional aftermath of Bakugou landing in Japan. Poor Katsuki can't understand why everyone is being so nice to the feral version of him, Bakugou literally can't get by two minutes without being drowned by the grief of his losses, and Mina and Eijirou just want to 'mother hen' both of them. Sorry for the unexpected hiatus everyone, we'll be uploading new episodes with new chapters from here on out!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss The Quarry. Even already knowing what happens during (and after) this chapter, it was still very, very stressful. Why can't Hawks just not be a cryptic asshole for once? Imagine all the pain that could have being avoided if Ochako just trusted him even a little bit. Character motivations are revealed, old slights are repaid, and Ochako is forced to go Plus Ultra after an undeterminable amount of time spent wearing herself thin, like butter spread over too much toast.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss A Bitter Reunion. It starts off cute and sweet but gets real traumautic, real fast. To no one's surprise except for all the UA students, Prince Bakugo (or as Denki dubs him, Middle Earth Bakugo) lands in Japan after Ochako's heroic sacrifice in the previous chapter. And the rest fo the chapter is just layer upon layer of pain for all parties involved. Everyone say 'Thanks, Kirby' because she really delivered the angst with this one.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss The Angel of Death. There is quite possibly one of the best action scenes in all of fanfiction when Bakugo and Midoriya fight on the glacier, and we finally get to see a bit of our favorite demigod's true power. And then... The infamous bathtub scene. Ochako takes control and slays us all (Bakugo included). It's fluffy and hot, and the perfect calm before the storm.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss A Long Overdue Talk. We get to see Midoriya process the heavy events of the previous chapter, and decide to stop living in fear of what's to come. But instead of immediately jumping the object of his affections (Ochako, we're looking at you), he decides to go for breakfast, followed by a deep convo with Bakugo, and finally, a not-date-date with Todoroki. And with that, we finally learn what happened between them before, and why Uraraka was so angry with Midoriya. It's a fun, fluffy chapter with a big heaping of angst!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss The Breaking Point, and it's a rollercoaster of a chapter. Ochako and Deku discovery the story of a former Marked One, and along with them, we feel her predecessor's pain. But that's not all folks! We also get a heaping dose of existential angst on top of that, which results in Ochako deciding to take her fate into her own hands and with that, THE BURN IS FINALLY OVER.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss Freefall, with a very special guest! This chapter is one that Kirby has been looking forward to writing for so long, and one that she had spoiled for Becks and Kels (accidentally). STILL, even with insider knowledge, it packed such a punch. We're basically screaming the whole episode because Kirby does horror and suspense so well, and the ending! Lastly, lest this summary also devolve into screaming, everyone pour one out for the baddest bitch in Kirin.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss The Secret. Not going to lie, it was hard coping with the secondhand embarrassment as Ochako struggles to process the big reveal of Mitsuki as the goddess. Thankfully, we get some sweet Kirishima friendship moments before Ochako is forced to face Bakugo and discuss what she learned.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss A Sharp Reminder, alternatively titled: Ochako and Bakugo are hypocrites and suck at communication. We're still reeling from the reveals in Chapter 28 and we get to see how all the characters are coping. Todoroki would literally kill for Ochako, Uwabumi gives us some quality roasts, Kirishima is under the impression that this is a KiriKacchako story, and we get to meet Mirio and Tamaki! In the midst of all the excitement, Ochako and Bakugo don't know how to act and it takes a super spicy encounter for them to stop being idiots.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss The Mentor Returns, and it's a long one - the chapter and the episode. We get a tiny domestic slice of fluff before the existential crisis that is Ochako's life crushes us. But, we're rewarded for the pain by the first smut scene. IT'S SUCH A GOOD ONE, TOO. Finally, Ochako has some very fun, super chill conversations with All Might and Uwabumi.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby to recap and discuss The Agreements. We might have been gone for a month, and had to record this episode twice, but we're back, baby. Ochako wakes up in a bush after the celebration in the previous chapter. After avoiding Bakugo, feelings, and life, she ends up in a million different conversations (just kidding, it's like two) before Bakugo finally corners her. There's so much happening in this chapter we almost forgot the most important part — a further dive into Dabi's motivations! Also, forgive the wonky audio at a few parts; Kirby did her best to edit, but the recording gods were against us this time.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss The Favor. It's our second look into what the characters at UA are doing, and what a stark contrast it is to the Ember plotline! Even though she's not constantly under the threat of mortal danger, Ember Uraraka has her own slew of problems to work through and her own flavor of angst with which Kirby hurts us. We also get a chance to experience the POV of UA Katsuki, which is an absolute treat.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss The Truth - Pt 2. What a rollercoaster of emotions. It's just one painful thing after another, though there are a few bright spots, such as a sulky Bakugou realizing that Deku is stronger than him. Mostly though, Becks and Kels are just super sad, while Kirby does her best evil queen laugh because she's the queen of angst. There's only one way to go from here, friends, and it's not up.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss the second half of The Funeral of a Gentle King. Things get extra good! We get our first glimpse at Uwabumi being the baddest, most cunning bitch in the game. Ochako fucks shit up in the tournament, and then gets fucked up in the most insane night of partying ever. This chapter was a personal favorite for all of us, and it shows in our tangents.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss the first half of The Funeral of a Gentle King. There's so much lore to process and feelings to relive as we see how the citizens of Ember honor their dead. Plus, it's ships galore as we get past MinaKiriBaku, hints of TodoDeku and IidaCamie, and, of course, more development for Kacchako.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss The Aftermath! It starts off strong with a very soft smut scene in which two platonic bros show each other how much they appreciate one another. Then, our favorite pair get to check in with literally everyone in the castle before going to see one (1) very anxious dragon. Per a certain author, it's the calm before the storm, so we're holding on to every bit of fluff we can.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss A Difficult Conversation! It's sad boy Bakugou hours because Kirby thrives on hurting him (and us). The name of this game is which difficult conversation the title is referencing because they all hit us with the angst. Also, taking a week off means we forgot how to podcast, so please forgive our many, many detours.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss The Reunion! Kirby continues to kill it with her world building as Katsuki and Ochako arrive in Argon and we finally get to meet the queen! Kels and Becks were as shook this time around by her identity as when they first read the story. In fact, even writing this, the shock still hasn't worn off.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss chapter 12! There's so much delicious world building, the Kacchako relationship continues to develop, and truths are shared! Poor Ochako, she really just can't catch a break. Also, remember when the wildest twist in Seeing Double was the spring reveal?
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss chapter 11! It's a trope heaven as our masterful author finds ways to weave in fake engagements, there was only one bed , and sleep confessions into a fantasy setting. We also meet the fae, an ageless, wily people and learn more about the strange world that Ochako finds herself in! For our U.S. listeners, Happy Thanksgiving!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss the new chapter! Although a certain author promised fluff, there was a fair amount of trauma and angst packed in as we get to see what the characters at UA have been up to. The idiots to lovers tag has never been more real as Ember!Ochako and UA!Katsuki relieve the awkward we-like-each-other-but-refuse-to-admit it dance that their counterparts were tangled in many chapters ago. Never fear, though, there's a bit of Bakusquad banter to lighten things up!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby are back after a brief break to recap and discuss Chapter 10! We got a chance to check-in with the rest of the party from Shoto's point of view before being left on a terrible cliffhanger after Kirby paralleled the Touya appearance in the manga (even though she did it first). The rest of the chapter is the amazing second round between our two favorite idiots and we get our first introduction to the fae! Next episode will be a new chapter, so be sure to tune in!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEEING DOUBLE!Becks, Kels, and Kirby welcome Kat, our guest for the episode and Kirby's beta, to recap and discuss Chapter 9! It's basically a roasting of Ochako and Katsuki, who are peak idiots in the idiots to lovers trope and really just don't know when to quit. We love the awkward banter between them and the thick sexual tension. The episode ends with Kat answering questions about fandom, beta-ing, and the fic!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 8, the first UA chapter! Parallels are drawn between each Ochako's experience after the swap and the similarities and differences between the Ember and UA characters are explored. Becks asks a lot of questions that she should have know the answer to, Kels screams about her love for the UA intermissions, and Kirby talks the newest (unwritten) chapter.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 7, and it's basically roast Bakugo hours. Does he have it all figured out? Is he just horny because of a good fight? How does it tie in to the Disney classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame? Is his desire to 'save' Uraraka entirely altruistic? How do we each answer different questions for writers? Listen in to find out!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 6, which is the first Kacchako-centric chapter! The writing of fight (and smut) scenes is explored, as are chapter lengths because by you should know we can't stay on topic. The most important part of the chapter and the discussion, though, is the B O W L.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 5 and whew! There's a lot of lore, which means there's a fair amount of rambling. Also, Ember Uraraka must be protected at all costs! The roles of betas (and alphas???) in writing is discussed and there's a fun anecdote about beta writers versus omegaverse betas, courtesy of an error Kirby made that she will never live down.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 4 with a lot of chaotic energy that we weren't able to get out last week. There's detours on smut terms, a/b/o, multishipping, Twitter handles, and probably more! Kirby gives us a dramatic reading of an excerpt from the passage. Different outlining styles are discussed. It's a great time.
Sorry we're coming to you a day late! Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 25 and... it's a rough one. In the words of Kirby, it's a lot of her explaining things while Becks and Kels sigh sadly in the background. In short, there's a lot of sighing because it's sad girl hours. We needed a tub of ice cream and a nap afterwards.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 3 and fangirl about Dragon Eijiro, who is undoubtedly the best boy in any universe. His skills at reading the room and taming Katsuki are explored, as are Ochako's strengths in operating under severe stress. A (not) brief detour is taken into the amazing(ly challenging) aspects of writing smut, and the crack theory of Katsuki being an Alpha is revisited. Kirby makes a promise of Chapter 25 by next week!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby recap and discuss Chapter 2, with a deep dive into the ways environment impacts personality and behavior traits of the UA and Ember characters. Kels makes the great suggestion that a third alternate universe be created where all of the characters can live happily ever after. Kirby spills her outlining secrets. Becks is just happy to be here. The hype for Ember Kirishima's appearance in Chapter 3 begins; until next episode!
Becks, Kels, and Kirby share long-term plans for the podcast and address the controversy that has rocked the Kacchako fandom on how to pronounce Uraraka Ochako and the actual ship name. Chapter 1 of Seeing Double is recapped and discussed, with a few tangents on the joys of writing.
Becks, Kels, and Kirby launch the podcast with introductions and a discussion of Seeing Double's newest chapter. Becks and Kels cry about how there's no way there can be a happy ending, while Kirby does her best to not leak any spoilers.
