Episode 564: Why Wealthy Investors Are Turning to Oil & Gas with Tait Duryea

Tait Duryea is the founder of Turbine Capital, a private equity firm specializing in commercial real estate and oil and gas investments, and a commercial airline captain with over 15,000 flight hours on the Airbus A321.    In this second episode of a two-part series, Tait breaks down why oil and gas has become a powerful portfolio complement to real estate, especially for high-income W-2 earners looking for active tax write-offs.From the mechanics of horizontal drilling and 98–99% commercial success rates, to writing off 80–90% of your investment against W-2 income in year one, this episode is a masterclass in smart portfolio diversification for accredited investors ready to look beyond traditional real estate.    If you're a surgeon, business owner, or high-income professional sitting on passive losses you can't use, this episode was made for you.   5 Key Takeaways   Oil and Gas Isn't What It Used to Be — Horizontal drilling technology has pushed commercial success rates to 98–99%, but the tax incentives created during the risky era of vertical drilling have never gone away. That gap is the opportunity. The W-2 Deduction No One Talks About — Unlike passive real estate losses, non-operating working interest in oil and gas wells is treated as active income under IRS code 263 Alpha. High-income earners can write off 80–90% of their investment against W-2 income in year one. Diversify Through a Fund, Not a Single Well — Buying into one or two wells exposes you to catastrophic concentration risk. Turbine Capital's Waypoint Energy fund offers exposure to 40–60 wells alongside major operators like ExxonMobil and Devon — a very different proposition. Front-Loaded Cash Flow Is a Feature, Not a Bug — Oil and gas wells produce the bulk of their returns in the first 24 months. Paired with the year-one tax refund, this creates rapid capital velocity — funds that can then be redeployed into longer-duration real estate deals. Know Where You Are in the Real Estate Cycle — With cap rates expanding into the 6s and values still suppressed, Tait sees this as a prime entry point for commercial real estate. Senior housing and small-bay industrial are his two highest-conviction plays for the next cycle.   Key Talking Points of the Episode 00:00 Introduction 00:22 Meet Tait Duryea: Airline pilot turned Private Equity founder of Turbine Capital 01:50 The 3-Paydays Book 02:13 Why high-income investors are adding oil and gas to their portfolios 04:05 Mineral rights vs. new drilling opportunities 05:45 The oil and gas tax advantage that's been in the tax code since the 1950's 07:54 How to invest in oil & gas: Fund minimums, structure, and entry points 10:48 Understanding the returns from oil & gas investments 12:13 The 3-Paydays System 14:42 How to balance oil & gas and real estate for faster portfolio growth 15:32 Get connected with Tait Duryea and the Turbine Capital Investor Relations team 16:04 Is now a good time to buy commercial real estate? 17:44 Why Tait is bullish on senior housing and small-bay industrial real estate 20:53 The opportunities in self-storage and manufactured housing 22:35 Final thoughts and how to connect with Turbine Capital 23:35 How Propsperity.io helps real estate investors manage and scale their portfolio   Links   Turbine Capital https://www.turbinecap.com/   Turbine Capital Investor Email investors@turbinecap.com   Tait Duryea tait@turbinecap.com   Oil and Gas Fund Through Turbine Capital https://www.waypoint-energy.com/   3 Paydays® Live https://3paydayslive.com/podcast   Free Discovery Call https://smartrealestatecoachpodcast.com/discovery   3 Paydays® System Mastery Course - Use coupon code for 50% off https://smartrealestatecoach.com/qls Coupon code: pod   Apprentice Program 3PaydaysApprentice.com/Podcast    Masterclass https://smartrealestatecoach.com/masterspodcast   3 Paydays Books https://3paydaysbooks.com/podcast   Partners https://smartrealestatecoach.com/podcastresources

She also revisits water safety rules that saves lives, especially for children, including swimming lessons, life jackets, and why alcohol and water activities do not mix. Then she shifts to ticks: why people often never notice a bite, how ticks spread multiple pathogens, and why Lyme disease is still a major threat. She breaks down alpha-gal symptoms that can look “random” because they may appear two to six hours after eating mammalian meat or dairy, from hives and GI distress to swelling, wheezing, fainting, and anaphylaxis. Finally, she shares timely updates on new federal momentum to combat Lyme disease and accelerate alpha-gal research, plus intriguing early data on an unusual auricular allergy treatment approach that deserves careful study.Support the show

Controversial Christianity The church is in a series called Controversial Christianity, where the goal is to: Talk about difficult or uncomfortable topics Bring clarity, conviction, compassion, and Christ into the conversation Model how to disagree while staying united This year's topics are a little lighter—but still meaningful.   This Week's Topic: Mega Churches This week's conversation focuses on: What it means to attend a megachurch A “megachurch” is simply a church with 2,000+ people attending regularly and Northeast is one of them.   The Challenges of Mega Churches Mega churches often carry negative stereotypes, such as: Celebrity pastor culture Entertainment over worship Financial greed and excuses Shallow theology and teaching Shallow relationships and community Complex bureaucracy and leadership Consumer mindset in attendees While these aren't always true, they exist because of real examples in church history and culture.   The Goal: Defy the Stereotypes The goal is not to be a “big church” for the sake of size. Instead: We want to be a healthy church, no matter the size. Healthy churches can be: Big or small Simple or complex Size doesn't determine health, people do.   Big Church vs. Small Church People coming from smaller churches may notice differences: More structured systems Larger worship environments Less direct access to certain leaders But these differences are not necessarily problems; they're just different cultures.   The Biggest Issue: Consumer Christianity The biggest risk in a megachurch is this: It's easy to just show up, consume, and not engage. With so many people, it's easy to: Stay anonymous Avoid serving Only attend occasionally But that's not what the church is meant to be.   The Real Challenge The message shifts from this: “Just attend church” To: “Help build a healthy church” That means: Showing up consistently Getting involved in community Serving others Taking ownership of your church family   Next Steps Everyone is encouraged to take a step deeper: Alpha – explore Christianity Basics – learn about the church Groups – build community Serving – get involved Mentorship – grow spiritually   Final Takeaway The church is not a product to consume. It's a family to belong to and a mission to live out. And ultimately: Our impact as a church depends on how much each of us leans in.

Send us Fan MailRevelation has been sold as a scary code book for decades, but we're convinced it reads very differently when we let the text lead. We pick up in Revelation 1:9-10 and keep the spotlight where Scripture puts it: on Jesus Christ as Alpha and Omega, the Almighty, present with His churches. That single shift changes everything, because the goal isn't to satisfy curiosity about end-times trivia. The goal is to strengthen worship and endurance through the testimony of Jesus Christ. John writes from the Isle of Patmos as a “brother and companion in tribulation,” and we slow down long enough to feel the weight of that phrase. Tribulation, kingdom, and patience are not separate lanes; they describe ordinary Christian life in a hostile world where believers still belong to Christ's reign and must endure with steadfast hope. We also confront popular dispensational assumptions about a future seven-year tribulation and ask a simple question: how can tribulation be purely future if John shares it with the saints in his own day? From there we look at Patmos as both exile and commission, and we talk about what it means that John is “in the Spirit on the Lord's day.” This revelation is not human imagination, not a dream, and not an invitation to mystical speculation, code-cracking, or timeline charts. The trumpet-like voice signals authority, summons, and judgment and it calls the church to hear its King. If Revelation has ever made you anxious, this conversation is meant to steady you. Subscribe for more Revelation teaching, share this with a friend who avoids the book, and leave a review if this helped you read with clarity and hope.Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!

Send us Fan MailRevelation starts in a place most of us would never choose: exile. We talk through why John is on Patmos, what that suffering says about the early church, and why it matters for anyone trying to understand biblical prophecy without turning it into a fear machine. When you remember the persecution, the martyrdom, and the cost of following Jesus, “tribulation” stops sounding like a future headline and starts sounding like the normal terrain of Christian endurance. From there, we slow down on the opening vision where Jesus identifies Himself as the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last. We explore what that claim means for God's providence, for history, and for the comfort Revelation is meant to give. We also discuss the seven churches of Asia, not only as real congregations receiving a real book, but as a picture of the full church across the ages with all our strengths, compromises, suffering, and need for repentance. Then we tackle a tough question that cuts through a lot of end-times charts: if Revelation is addressed to the church, how can it be mainly for a time when the church is supposedly raptured away? We follow the logic into the implications people often skip, including what happens to the Holy Spirit, gospel preaching, and conversion if the church is removed. If you've ever felt anxious about the rapture, the great tribulation, or the “left behind” storyline, this conversation is an invitation to re-read Revelation with Christ at the center. In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast host Troy Trewin interviews Michèle Hecken shares how she built Alpha Translations into a global business serving top law firms while raising two young children after moving from Germany to Canada. She explains how creating systems and empowering her team allowed her to work just 4–10 hours a week for 15 years. Michèle reveals how her company was building early large language models long before today's AI boom and why she chose to sell instead of reinventing the business. She discusses the challenges of surviving the 2008 financial crisis, rebuilding stronger, and creating a company that could run without her involvement. Listeners will learn valuable lessons on leadership, delegation, mindset, business exits, and designing a business that supports the life they truly want. The Art of Offboarding: How to Transform Your Business to Run Without You by Michèle Hecken is a practical guide for entrepreneurs aiming to move away from day-to-day operations and create a business that runs independently. It focuses on the power of intentional delegation and structured exit from daily tasks to unlock greater freedom, focus, and sustainable growth. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? According to Michèle Hecken, the hardest thing in growing a small business is cash flow. She explains that even when a business appears successful, owners constantly face decisions about where to invest money, whether new initiatives will generate returns, and how to maintain enough cash reserves to navigate uncertainty. Michèle believes that managing consistent cash flow is critical because it gives business owners the flexibility to experiment, survive challenges, and continue growing without putting the company at risk. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Michèle Hecken's favorite business book is Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott. She says the book had a significant impact on how she led her business, particularly in the areas of communication, feedback, and team culture. Michèle values its practical approach to having honest conversations, addressing issues early, and giving constructive feedback effectively. The book influenced her so much that she referenced some of its concepts and tools in her own book about helping entrepreneurs build businesses that can run without them. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Michèle Hecken recommends learning from a variety of sources rather than relying on a single resource. One podcast she particularly enjoys is the The Mel Robbins Podcast, praising Mel Robbins for her practical insights on mindset and personal growth. She also highly recommends John Warrillow and his podcast Built to Sell Radio, which features valuable lessons from business owners who have successfully scaled and exited their companies. Beyond podcasts, Michèle emphasizes continuous learning through books, coaching, entrepreneurial communities, and implementing what you learn, noting that the real value comes not from consuming information but from applying it to your business. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Michèle Hecken shares that the number one tool to grow a small business is your mindset. She believes that without the right mindset, even the best tools and strategies will fail you. She also highly recommends Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott for building honest communication and a strong team culture. Above all, she encourages every entrepreneur to trust themselves and filter every resource through the lens of what truly works for their own business. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Michèle Hecken shares that the advice she would give herself on day one of starting out in business is to trust yourself because you already know what the right thing is to do. She reflects that even though everyone told her she was crazy for doing things differently, her instincts always led her in the right direction. She also emphasizes giving yourself permission to be courageous and not spending too much money on consultants who may not always know your business better than you do. Who is Jesus, really? In this message, Wayne Pederson takes a close look at the life and identity of Christ, drawing from the Gospel of John and Colossians 1. He traces three categories of people Jesus consistently stopped for: the downcast, the outcast, and the sinner. From the woman who touched the hem of his garment, to the widow who lost her only son, to the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus showed up for people the world had written off. And the invitation he extended then is still open today.Wayne also walks through the many names and titles given to Jesus in scripture, explaining what each one means and what it reveals about his character. "Jesus" means God saves. "Christ" means the anointed one. He is the Good Shepherd, the Bread of Life, the Prince of Peace, the Alpha and the Omega. As Wayne puts it, after everything that happens in our churches, our theology, our programs, and our lives, "after all, it's all about Jesus." If you have ever wondered whether Jesus would show up for someone like you, this message is worth your time.

Sermon Outline: "On My Father's Side" Preacher: Pastor Lemuel Miller (Guest Speaker / Advisory Board Member) Location: Church of the Harvest I. Introduction: The Temple and the Root Causes of Sickness The Caleb Spirit: At nearly 74 years old, Pastor Lemuel shares his experience winning a silver medal at the national arm wrestling championship, emphasizing that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We must actively care for our physical templates so that the Holy Ghost is not "living in a garage or a shed." Commanding Prayers vs. Begging: In his book Prayers for Healing, Pastor Lemuel explains that many believers stay in ignorance, begging God for things He has already accomplished. Spiritual maturity requires switching from begging prayers to authoritative, commanding prayers. Uprooting Sickness: True physical restoration requires looking past the surface pain and identifying the structural root causes of diseases. Migraine Headaches: Often rooted in trauma and bitterness. Kidney Disease: Rooted in deep unforgiveness, bitterness, fear, and self-rejection. Leukemia: Often linked to bitterness and paternal rejection. Lupus: Can stem from deep-seated guilt, self-hatred, and low self-esteem. II. Point 1: Understanding Jesus as a 100% Human Example The Human Dependency: Reading from John 5:19, Jesus explicitly declares that the Son can do absolutely nothing of Himself except what He sees the Father do. Many Christians incorrectly attribute Jesus' earthly miracles to His inherent divinity, forgetting that He stripped Himself of that privilege to come as a 100% vulnerable human baby. The Earthly Blueprint: Jesus had to fully depend on human care and look directly to His Heavenly Father for supernatural strength. By doing this, He serves as a complete human blueprint for how we are meant to walk out authority on Earth. III. Point 2: The Full Meaning of Salvation (Sozo) Fire Insurance vs. Full Rights: Most modern believers view being "saved" purely as a post-death ticket to Heaven to avoid Hell. The Greek Meaning: In Matthew 1:21, the term for save is the Greek word Sozo. When properly translated, it means you are actively rescued from: Accidents, injuries, physical harm, and structural danger. Destruction, risk, peril, loss, and premature/untimely death. Sickness, chronic disease, physical infirmity, and generational curses. The Transacted Benefits: True Sozo simultaneously grants the believer legal rights to divine prosperity, total deliverance from addictions, inner strength, structural healing, and operational wholeness. IV. Point 3: The Conversation in the Temple (The Two Sides) Using a vivid exploration of Luke 2:47, Pastor Lemuel illustrates the 12-year-old Jesus sitting among the elite rabbis and theologians, contrasting His dual lineage: On My Mother's Side: Born into natural law, generational trauma, human limitations, fear, hunger, thirst, trouble, and the lingering curse of sin. On My Father's Side: Formed in supernatural law, eternal life, and generational blessings. The Supernatural Exchange: * Hungry/Thirsty: On His mother's side, He fasts; on His Father's side, He is the Bread of Life and a well that never runs dry. Natural Law: His mother's side is bound to gravity; His Father sits upon the flood (Psalm 29:10)—and a Father who sits on the flood raises a Son who walks on water. Surrounding Defense: On His Father's side, He is covered by feathers and wings (Psalm 91:4), meaning His truth functions as a structural shield, buckler, and surrounding defense against the snare of the fowler. Age and Identity: On His mother's side, He is a 12-year-old from Nazareth; on His Father's side, He is the Ancient of Days, Alpha and Omega, the Architect of the Universe, and the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. V. Point 4: Operating in Dunamis Power The Age of Public Service: In Hebrew culture, a priest could not step into public high-priestly service until age 30. Accordingly, Jesus did not perform public miracles until reaching this baseline. The Necessity of Anointing: Acts 10:38 states that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power. If Jesus was operating strictly as God, He wouldn't require an anointing or a companion. He operated as an anointed human being. Miraculous Power (Dunamis): When the Holy Ghost fills a believer, they receive Dunamis power—the explosive, dynamic, and supernatural capacity to perform miracles. Rebuking the Root: When dealing with demonic possession (Acts 16), Peter's mother-in-law's fever (Luke 4), or the raging sea (Mark 4), Jesus always used sharp, severe, and authoritative rebukes (epitimao). In the storm, He did not rebuke the water; He rebuked the wind—the structural root cause of the problem. VI. Conclusion: Activating Faith vs. Waiting The Whip Post Transaction: Based on Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Paragraph 2:24, our healing is already completely provided in the past tense ("by whose stripes you were healed"). Healing was legally settled at the whipping post, not two years from now. Faith is Practical Action: Believers fail to receive because they allow passive doubt to eat their seed of faith. Like the ten lepers in Luke 17, their structural healing manifested on the way because they actively moved in obedience to Jesus' command. Healing vs. Wholeness: While nine lepers were cleansed (cured of the disease), the Samaritan leper who turned back to worship Jesus was made whole (Sozo). Healing cures the virus; wholeness creatively restores every limb, finger, or piece of flesh that was eaten away or missing. We kicked off the show with a chat with the great Miriam Clancy, who joined us to discuss her new single with Dion Lunadon--a ripper cover of Martin Phillipps's "I Love My Leather Jacket." Professor Emeritus Peter Lineham stopped by to talk about Alpha, an interesting Christian outreach movement that, would you believe it, Crawley was intimately familiar with. We also caught up with Jordan Dickson, who called in to chat about some upcoming shows at Basement Theatre. We played some music too. Thanks to The Beer Spot!

THIS IS A RERUN OF A POPULAR EPISODE - ALSO BECAUSE MARILYN IS BEING FEATURED AT THE ACADEMY MUSEUM.... #kobebryant #KOBE, #JESUSCHRIST, #JESUS, #marilynmonroe We weren't able to do a podcast tonight, "unforeseen circumstances" (isn't that funny for a podcast where we talk to the afterlife?) - but am rerunning one of our most popular podcasts, with the additional opening and subtitles, so people can "sing along with us." Just kidding. Here's the original liner notes: This was from a year ago.... For those not familiar with this podcast; Jennifer Shaffer is an intuitive medium who works with law enforcement nationwide on missing person cases. She does pro bono work daily for them, and once a week we get together and see what we can learn from the flipside.  We've been doing this weekly for 8 years, the last two on our podcast. I'm a filmmaker, have written and/or directed 8 theatrical feature films, a couple of documentaries.   Some years ago, my best friend died in my arms and started coming to visit me. Instead of being freaked out by it (and her showing up to friends and family members) I started to dig into how that might be. That's resulted in 10 books (Flipside, etc) and four with Jennifer Shaffer.  In this edition, a number of people show up that we've spoken with before. We interviewed Kobe just after his passing, it's the last chapter in the book "Backstage Pass to the Flipside 3" - where he talks about his journey, and I ask him questions in Italian. Eventually members of his family have met with Jennifer - so it's not unusual for us that he might stop by.   The construct is this; my friend who passed away is on the flipside, and has organized a "group meeting" or a class as we call it, not to teach folks on the planet, but to teach people on the flipside how to communicate using frequency, images, visualizations on the flipside. Jennifer may get an image, let's say of a character from a TV show, and it may be their way of giving her a thought so that I could say, "Do you mean someone who shares the same name of that character in the TV show wants to speak to us?" That happens often.  As noted, Jennifer is doing her best to translate what is coming to her. Like a translator at the UN, the people on the flipside are downloading a lot of information, and she does her best to catch the meaning, syntax and general idea of what someone wants to impart. A number of people stop by who've been interviewed before; Prince ("I was addicted to jumping off pianos, which caused me to use pain killers"), Robin Williams ("Love Love"). Marilyn stops by - refers to something I was writing at MartiniZone.com the other day - and when I asked if she wanted to talk about the manner of her passing, she said she wanted to talk about how she had two children waiting for her on the flipside. Both whom had not come to term.    That concept has been repeated in the research - consistently. A number of people in our podcast have mentioned it, the idea of "those we don't have are waiting for us on the flipside."  Harry Dean Stanton said the same thing - and I was able to verify it (but don't mention it in the podcast.) It's in "Backstage Pass to the Flipside."  Harry came through after he passed and before his memorial. I asked him what he wanted me to impart to his friends (as noted.) He also said that when he passed, "He was in a room with five women" and when he got to the flipside, he was met by a "baby that he didn't have in life."   In other words, a child was there to greet him with this profound unconditional love. At his memorial that I went to a week later, I asked someone who was with him at his deathbed to describe the scene. She said "There were five of us with him, all women."  I asked if he had said anything unusual while she was in the room. She said "Yes, he asked me to hand him the baby. But there was no baby in the room." I had heard THE SAME THING from Harry on the Flipside via Jennifer a week earlier. At some point, the Alpha and Omega stops by - and mentions the one thing he wishes people would not do, that is "get freaked out by his name." (Jesus). I've had a number of interviews with him via various mediums, different hypnotherapy sessions, and multiple guided meditation sessions.  As noted in the podcast, I've finished that book and am doing the audible as we speak. (SINCE THEN IT'S BEEN PUBLISHED, AS HAS THE LATEST BOOK "SHE WAS NEVER LOST" about Amelia Earhart)   As to books by scientists about how consciousness isn't confined to the brain, I recommend Dr. Greyson's AFTER, Dr. Tucker's BEFORE, Dr. Kelly's CONSCIOUSNESS UNBOUND.  In terms of the hypnotherapy research, I recommend the thousands of case studies from Dr. Helen Wambach (RELIVING PAST LIVES) Dr. Weiss (MANY LIVES, MANY MASTERS) Michael Newton (JOURNEY OF SOULS.)  My latest book is DivineCouncils.com - where I invited 50 people, half whom had never heard of councils, who visited them, met their guides, teachers, etc. Enjoy! Motion Church | Easter: "Does the Offer Still Stand?" What happens when you show up with an expired coupon? You already know the answer — and so does God. This Easter at Motion Church, we're looking at the Easter story through a slightly different lens: redemption. What does it really mean to be redeemed? And is the offer of salvation — purchased at the highest price imaginable — still available to you today? The answer is a resounding yes. The Bible defines redemption as "the act of God buying back or rescuing humanity from slavery to sin and death through the costly sacrifice of Jesus Christ." Romans 3 makes it clear: every one of us has sinned and fallen short, leaving us with a debt we can never repay on our own. But God, unwilling to leave his prize creation in that condition, set a plan in motion — sending his own Son to satisfy that debt once and for all. Jesus didn't just come to show us what it means to be human. "Jesus, from the moment that he entered into humanity, had a purpose, and that purpose was to redeem humanity." The cross was the cost. The empty tomb is the guarantee. As the disciples discovered on the road to Emmaus, the resurrection isn't just a miracle — it's the proof that the offer holds. "The resurrection guarantees your redemption. The offer still stands." And here's the thing about this offer: it doesn't come with an expiration date. God doesn't go out of business. "He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end… the offer stands from generation to generation." The coupon never expires — but you and I do. "It's a tailor-made offer that's just for you that doesn't expire, but you do." So the question isn't whether the offer is still good. It is. The question is: what are you waiting for? "Redemption offers freedom. Redemption offers peace. Redemption offers belonging, purpose, healing for the hurting, and being made whole to those who are broken. Redemption offers eternal life." Don't let your coupon go unredeemed.

This episode was about going deep into managed futures and hedge fund replications but it went far beyond that as we got into the inner motives and decision process of investors, with Andrew Beer from DBi.We covered:* Replication vs. Selection: Why "copying" the big macro moves of the industry often beats picking individual winners.* The marketing "theatre" of complexity: The sleek decks, rooms full of PhDs and big models are the pitch, but they don't guarantee performance.* The Alpha-Fee Gap: How stripping fees directly translates to investor returns.* ETFs as the Great Equalizer: Why the sub-advised ETF model works institutional allocators and wealth managers alike.* Portfolio Construction: The role of CTAs (officially Commodity Trading Advisory but Andrew prefers Contrarian Tactical Alpha) in the traditional 60/40 portfolio. And a lot more…Watch it on YouTube or listen on every podcast app.A few selected quotesManaged futures are still underratedThe track record is impeccable: the most important number in this image is probably the 0 correlation with the S&P 500. And DBi is a resounding success, with around $8bn in AuM. Yet the market share and mind share of these strategies still feel relatively small.“The ratio between diversification benefit and love in this thing is astonishing. This is a much better diversifier than the vast majority of the hedge fund industry, and people keep throwing their money at things that statistically have not been worth it.”The core value proposition of managed futures  "We would have zero correlation to both stocks and bonds over 20 plus years. And it's a strategy that structurally seems to do the best when the markets are at their worst, because that's when things really move outside of the range of expectations."Simple. But that doesn't mean advisors embrace it.“People invest in what they like. The people I'm talking to — they went into a job to pick hedge funds. They like their jobs. They don't really want to hear somebody coming along and saying, 'I think you've been overpaying for the past 10 years."The appeal of complexity (for a certain audience) "A lot of their investors have historically liked the complexity of it. You're pitching to people who want to come into the office and hear people tell them about all the statistical nuances of what they're doing... It's interesting and it's fascinating and you're talking to people with PhDs.” Replication beats Complexity But is replication the right word?“The way we came at the space was basically to say, we're not gonna try to do what these guys do with all the complexities and all the costs and everything else associated with it. We're really just gonna study what they do. That's what replication does. There are 20, 30 funds out there that each of with hundreds of underlying positions, and they're constantly changing it. We're gonna look over some, and we're going to try to figure out what are the big macro themes that they've picked up on and we're just going to mimic that. And, what's astonishing about it is that it's so efficient that since we started, we've outperformed virtually every large hedge fund that does this net of fee”Is it simplification rather than replication? Or minimalistic replication? We discussed extensively, how the narrative and the words that go without it are still being shaped in the managed futures space.About Andrew Beer:Andrew D. First up is Anurag Kashyap's Bandar, a dark and unsettling look at power, corruption, and the machinery of the Indian justice system, featuring what Sujoy calls the performance of Bobby Deol's career. Then it's on to Maa Behen, Suresh Triveni's sharp, funny, and surprisingly moving Netflix film starring Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, and Dharna. Badlands Daily: 6/11/26 - ActBlue CEO Pleads Fifth Again, Bolton Cooperation Confirmed

CannCon and Alpha Warrior bring the Thursday show with the ActBlue CEO finally in front of congress and doing exactly what everyone expected. Debra Wallace Jones pleads the Fifth on every single question, including how many foreign contributions ActBlue accepted, how much came from Russia, and whether the 38 million flagged donations her own board chairman acknowledged were fraudulent. CannCon explains the full scope of what the hearing is building toward: criminal charges, not just public theater, with laundering of taxpayer dollars through overseas venues back into US campaigns as the core of the eventual indictment. Alpha updates his Bolton cooperation theory after CannCon pushes back with the Petraeus and Berger comparison: Alpha argues the defining indicator is not the fine size but the timing of the plea, and six to nine months is absolute confirmation of cooperation because no one with resources pleads that fast without a deal. Trump signs the Secure America Act funding DHS through the end of his term, and Alpha's border patrol contacts say the danger level agents are operating under is higher than anything publicly reported. The Knicks pull off the biggest NBA Finals comeback in history, and Hakim Jeffries walks directly into a 1994 Madison Square Garden clip of Trump courtside with Marla after telling reporters Trump does not know who the Knicks are.

For the first time in decades, US officials confirmed new cases of the New World screwworm: a flesh-eating parasite that eats living tissue from the inside out and can cross over to humans. As the government prepares emergency declarations and a $750 million fly factory in Texas, McCullough Foundation epidemiologist Nicolas Hulscher reveals the not-so-surprising, over-the-counter medication that he says “provided more than 97% protection against screwworm infestations in wounds under real-world conditions.” But because it's so cheap and easily available, you will likely never hear about it in the headlines. In this special episode hosted by Dr. Kelly Victory, Nic Hulscher discusses the New World screwworm, ebola, and breaks down the meteoric rise of alpha-gal syndrome (meat allergies) and its connections to bio-engineered ticks. Nicolas Hulscher is an epidemiologist and administrator at the McCullough Foundation. He earned a Master of Public Health degree with a specialization in epidemiology at Michigan School of Public Health. He has contributed to the publication of more than 25 scientific studies, advancing understanding of COVID-19 vaccine injuries, childhood vaccine injuries, cancer treatments, SARS-CoV-2, and H5N1 avian influenza.
