878. A tick bite you may not even remember getting can leave you unable to eat a hamburger, a slice of pizza, or a bowl of ice cream. That's alpha-gal syndrome, and it's turning up far outside its original range.Alpha-gal is a sugar molecule found in the cells of most mammals but not in humans. When a lone star tick injects it under the skin, the immune system can start treating it as a threat. Scott Lessing shares the remarkable story of planting a church inside Lorain Correctional Institution and how prison ministry can become true disciple-making and church planting. Through consistent relationships, weekly worship, leadership development, and reentry ministry, Scott and Grace Church are seeing God transform lives both inside and outside the prison. Scott serves at Grace Church, a Christian and Missionary Alliance church near Cleveland, Ohio. What began when the warden asked for something more than traditional prison ministry has grown into a church community with weekly services, dozens of volunteers, Bible studies, Alpha, Rooted, recovery ministry, baptisms, a School of Ministry, and intentional discipleship. Greg and Scott also explore the biblical foundation for this work through Luke 4:18 and Matthew 25, discussing Jesus' call to proclaim good news to the poor, freedom for prisoners, and to care for those who are incarcerated. Scott explains why the goal isn't simply to bring a church service into a prison but to build relationships and make disciples who can eventually disciple and lead others. One of the most powerful stories is of a man who spent 47 years incarcerated, completed Grace Church's School of Ministry, was released, joined the church's staff, and was preparing to return to the prison—this time to preach. The church also walks alongside people after release through employment connections, housing support, community, and continued discipleship. Scott's story challenges every church leader to reconsider what it means to go to people instead of simply expecting people to come to church. As he explains, their prison ministry has changed Grace Church itself, creating a congregation that looks more diverse, more broken, and, in his words, more like the first-century church. Calvin #1: OpenAI's Python SDK has migrated to HTTPX2 The OpenAI Python SDK has migrated to HTTPX2, the Pydantic-stewarded fork of httpx. Pydantic picked it up citing "limited activity recently" in the original project, promising "a reliably maintained path forward." If you just use the default client, nothing to do. No code changes. The catch is TLS. Quoting the guide: HTTPX "previously verified certificates against the CA bundle provided by certifi. HTTPX2 instead uses the operating-system trust store, and the SDK no longer installs certifi." That "can break certificate verification in minimal container images without system CA certificates, environments using corporate TLS-inspecting proxies, and deployments that relied on a custom or modified certifi bundle." The fix is SSL_CERT_FILE or SSL_CERT_DIR, or pass your own ssl.SSLContext via verify. Deeper integrations need real edits: custom clients, auth handlers, hooks, and request mocking all take HTTPX2 objects now, and plain httpx is no longer pulled in transitively. So import httpx in your own code means declaring it yourself or moving over. Temporary escape hatch: a legacy HTTPX client Michael #2: TMOG - Native Task Manager for macOS, Windows, and Linux A native, deeply instrumented system monitor for macOS, Windows, and Linux, now in public beta - from Plummers' Software, i.e. Dave Plummer, who wrote the original Windows Task Manager and donated it to Microsoft in 1995. Wikipedia Three real native apps: Swift/AppKit on macOS, Win32 on Windows, C++/Qt 6 on Linux, with a shared C++ core keeping metric semantics aligned - no browser shell anywhere. Calvin #3: wrapture - one wrapper for mocking, tracing, and observability Graham Dumpleton, author of wrapt and the original New Relic Python agent, has released wrapture. The name is wrapt plus capture. The core idea: wrap real code instead of replacing it, so the real code still runs while you watch every call. Name a method with wrapture.binding(Class, "method"), open a timeline(), and you get a tape of what actually happened. Real return values, real nesting, arguments normalised against real signatures. tape.tree() prints the call graph as it ran. One mechanism, three jobs: monkey patching with a real lifecycle (apply, remove, suspend, plus returns, raises, transforms_args), unit testing that asserts on real call flow instead of a flat MagicMock call list, and ad-hoc tracing of a running app. The testing pitch is error paths. Inject TimeoutError at the payment gateway, then assert the ledger was never written. Stubs and mocks are strict and spec-required, and there is deliberately no bare Mock(). Tracing needs no code at all. A wrapture.toml naming targets and a sink, run with python -m wrapture main.py, and you get a live call tree with timings. It captures ordinary logging calls as nested events, and with the otel extra it exports spans, metrics and correlated logs with W3C trace ids that join across services. Every line of code and docs was AI-written under their direction, and they say so up front. Two weeks from first commit, eleventh alpha, over 1000 tests, 150+ pages of docs. 1. Pray over our children The church wants to pray over the children and bless them practically with school supplies. More importantly, prayer provides a spiritual covering and protection. We are reminded to “pray without ceasing” because there are many needs around us. Prayer reaches people even through livestreams and social media. We should pray for people who are struggling, losing faith, needing healing, deliverance, and salvation. 2. The central message: Believe and Begin Again The message from Zechariah 4 is an encouragement to believe again and begin again. Many people have unfinished business in their lives—spiritually, emotionally, relationally, or personally. A setback or interruption does not mean the story is over. 3. God finishes what He starts Philippians 1:6 gives the powerful promise that God will complete the good work He has begun in us. God is the Alpha and Omega—the beginning and the end. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. Even when we don't see the finish line, God is still working. 4. We all have unfinished projects Just as people have unfinished projects around their homes, we can have unfinished areas in our spiritual lives. These might include: A bad habit we haven't overcome. A negative mindset. A broken relationship. A character issue God is still working on. The important question isn't whether we've struggled; it's whether we're willing to start again. 5. The middle can be harder than the beginning Beginnings are often exciting and full of motivation. The difficult part comes when the excitement wears off and the finish line seems far away. That's often when people give up. The message encourages us not to quit simply because we're in the middle of the process. 6. There will be obstacles and opposition Zerubbabel was called by God to rebuild the temple, but the work was stopped by opposition. The project remained unfinished for years. Likewise, when we pursue God's purpose, we should expect challenges. Not every person who opposes us is necessarily our enemy. Sometimes people may be misinformed, fearful, or simply unable to understand what God is doing. We need spiritual discernment and must remain focused on what God has called us to do. 7. Learn patience with God's timing God does not always work according to our timetable. Faith requires patience when we don't see immediate progress. Sometimes God allows a process to take longer than we expected. Delay does not mean denial, and an unfinished season does not mean God has abandoned the work. 8. One word from God can change everything God encouraged Zerubbabel through the prophet Zechariah. The key word was: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit.” The answer isn't always more human strength, resources, or effort. We need the Spirit of God. One word from God can bring hope, direction, and encouragement when everything seems impossible. 9. Prayer and fasting position us to see God move The message connects prayer and fasting with depending on God's Spirit. We don't fast because our strength is enough—we fast because we need God to do what only God can do. Prayer is spiritual warfare: we stand against discouragement and believe God for breakthrough. Main Takeaway Don't let an unfinished season convince you that God is finished with you. If God started something in your life, believe again, begin again, and keep going. There may be obstacles, delays, discouragement, and seasons when you don't see progress—but God's Spirit is greater than the opposition. It's not by might. It's not by power. It's by His Spirit.

How Long Does It Take You to Wake Up? The Cortisol Cheater Question You hit snooze six times. You need two cups of coffee before you can hold a conversation. Or the opposite: your eyes open at a level ten, heart already going, anxiety already running. There is a name for what is happening, and there is a test for it. Dr. Terri sits down with Carrie Jones, ND, FABNE, MPH, MSCP, the naturopathic physician known as the Queen of Hormones, for a conversation about the hormone testing almost nobody is ordering. Not blood. Not saliva. Urine metabolites, which show you not just how much of a hormone you have, but where it goes after your body is finished with it. Because that turns out to be the part that matters. Estrogen can travel down three different pathways, and one of them is protective while another is genotoxic.
