Show Notes 0:00: On a very packed episode of TheOASG Podcast, Justin and Helen get straight into the news of the past few weeks — and that means licenses before AX! From Kodama Tales and Crossed Hearts‘ licensing week, Abrams Kana acquiring an astrology work, Bubbles Zine bringing over a Suehiro Maruo work, and to GKIDS bringing an anime film to home media, it was a fair number of works announced… …and then came Anime Expo 2026. This apparently set Helen’s Bluesky timeline on fire once news was posted there, and both hosts discuss some background details involving this manga over the past few months. Main Topic: Spring Anime 2026 Final Impressions 38:57: Justin and Helen take no breaks and hop right into wrapping up the Spring anime season, which featured a good amount of standouts (Witch Hat Atelier, Ramparts of Ice, Dorohedoro S2) and some mostly solid works (An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess, Always a Catch, Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!?). Weird News 1:24:50: Welp, this section is the all industries are over, as AI this and AI that has taken over the minds of people who ultimately are trying to get away with being cheap — first with this anime done by an AI animation company that looks familiar in some cases if you stare long enough; then you have the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry considering providing subsidies of 11.5 billion yen (about US$71 million) to 15 eligible media companies aiming to increase overseas sales — the subsidies would aim to encourage the companies to utilize generative AI to translate their works. Welp again! 1:34:59: It’s 2026 and we have The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All getting a pretty superb adaptation — from how it looks to them having Dave Grohl say that Kurt Cobain would have loved Green Yuri, which got Helen to know all about Kurt Cobain; We also have Bamco (Filmworks and Pictures) having to apologize for making an unauthorized references to a number of works — in particular Attack on Titan — in their Sgt. Frog anime film. 1:38:04: Many questions have arisen with the announcement of Netflix working on a live-action Persona TV series, and one of them has Justin wondering why anyone let this be announced at all. Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week's episode we explore the well-documented history of ghosts as they were recorded in classical Greek and Roman culture, owing to older motifs that originated in Sumeria. In the free side of the show we discuss Greek skepticism, spooky Roman holidays to propitiate the dead and an eerily vivid description of Thessalian necromancer Erichtho including a lengthy example of her method of invocation. I probably cursed myself reading. In the extended show we discuss the classical relationship between ghosts and dreams, the restless shades that dead Roman Emperors tend to produce, a revenant love story and what it means when the specter happens to be an enormous woman. A cold wind carried the smell of ash across the fields as the last light of day faded behind the hills. Villages that once echoed with laughter now stood silent, their streets empty. Travellers spoke of strange sights on gloomy roads, shapes moving in the mist, and friends who no longer recognised each other. Somewhere in the land of Aelrathia, a dark mind gathered strength, raising the fallen and bending the living to its purpose. If the rumours were true, an army of the dead would soon march across the land. There was only one thing left to do. We had to venture out and face the Legion of the Necromancer by James Gill from Hammerforge Chronicles with art by James Isaacs.Read the full review here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2026/03/21/legion-of-the-necromancer-saturday-review/Useful LinksLegion of the Necromancer: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hammerforge/legion-of-the-necromancer/descriptionBGG listing: https://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/461948/legion-of-the-necromancerMusicIntro Music: Bomber (Sting) by Riot (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/)Music: Resistance by 2WEIMusic: "Climbing" by AShamaluevMusic.Website: https://www.ashamaluevmusic.comSupportIf you want to support this podcast financially, please check out the links below:Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/TabletopGamesBlogPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/tabletopgamesblogWebsite: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/support/

The Devil WithinThe Castle of the Damned — Episode One: The Necromancer's Bargain Episode Overview In 1987, an archaeological team investigating Hermitage Castle in the Scottish Borders made a discovery that would disturb historians, archaeologists, and paranormal investigators alike. Hidden beneath the castle's great hall was a sealed chamber, untouched for centuries. Inside they found ritual symbols carved into the stone, shelves of forbidden texts, and a lead coffin covered in Latin inscriptions. Something inside had been trying to claw its way out. And according to medieval records… it once belonged to William de Soulis. This episode investigates the dark legend of William de Soulis — a fourteenth-century nobleman whose obsession with forbidden knowledge transformed his castle into what historians now believe may have been a ritual laboratory for necromantic experiments. We explore: The strange library of occult texts inherited by the de Soulis family William's documented experiments attempting to communicate with supernatural entities His alleged bargain with an entity known only as “The Teacher” The gradual transformation of both the man and the castle itself Reports of supernatural architecture within Hermitage Castle — rooms and corridors behaving impossibly The violent events surrounding William's death in 1320 The extraordinary measures taken by monks to seal his body in lead and stone But the story does not end with his death. Because when archaeologists reopened the hidden chamber in 1987… the coffin was no longer sealed. Themes in This Episode: The dangers of knowledge pursued without wisdom Medieval occult traditions hidden within historical records The intersection of ambition, scholarship, and supernatural belief Whether evil is invited… or discovered The excavation of Hermitage Castle revealed far more than medieval artifacts. It may have reawakened something. And the people who studied the discovery would soon begin to pay a terrible price.

Idle Red Hands
The Weekly Podcast no.322 – Crows by MCDM, Undergoblin Heist, Magic Secret Lair and Orcs & Crafts Zine

Idle Red Hands

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 8, 2026 34:24

The official announcement of Crows by MCDM Productions, a new dungeon-crawling RPG led by James Introcaso appeared on Patreon. The game uses D6s and D10s, features a health system tied to inventory slots similar to Knave, and determines experience points based on the value of loot collected. It differs from a previous project, Draw Steel, by including potential negative results on the “power roll” but allows unlimited circumstantial bonuses for good planning. Crows also includes a base-building component where players develop their headquarters town and is set in a world where Archmages, corrupted by their magic, disappeared after warring as Necromancers. Undergoblin Heist by Hit Point Press is a hardcover adventure available with six accompanying miniatures. This wild sandbox goblin adventure is compatible with both Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Edition and Dungeon Crawl Classics. The players take on the role of the “Grotty Jacknives,” expert sneak-goblins tasked by Boss Soot to steal three magical artifacts from a cabbage goblin village. The adventure includes pre-generated characters, new species/class rules, a new spell, and a goblin Critical Hits table, and is written by Thom Denick with art and design by Bee Ho. The “Magic: The Gathering’s newest Secret Lair” drop, titled ‘Prints Charming,’ was released on February 2 as a “Chaos Vault” experiment by Wizards of the Coast. The collection is a quartet of green spells with different illustration styles, but its unusual aspect is the variable pricing tiers. Instead of a fixed price, the drop was offered at multiple points, ranging from a low of $9.99 up to $39.99 (and a foil version up to $49.99), ostensibly to test how much fans value the product. Despite the secondary market value of the cards being around $6, the experiment yielded bizarre sales results, with the most expensive $49.99 foil edition selling out earlier than the cheaper $29.99 foil edition, indicating some buyers were voluntarily paying more. The article speculates this could be due to hopes for a secret bonus card, automated bots, or individuals opting for a higher price to leave cheaper options for others. Orcs & Crafts Zine, a Kickstarter project focused on miniature terrain building rather than a game itself. The zine aims to teach the basics of creating miniature worlds, with the first 60-page issue focusing on cardboard foundations and requiring only basic tools like scissors and a hobby knife. DriveThruRPG is increasing its Print-on-Demand (PoD) prices again, effective February 1st, 2026. This follows a previous hike in March 2025 where US prices rose by as much as 50%. The new increase reflects rising costs for paper, materials, labor, and operations globally, with UK and Australia prices increasing by 3%, and US prices increasing by 4% (standard color) or 5% (premium color and black & white). Mantic Games is expanding its digital store and launching a new Print-On-Demand service for miniatures in the Vault. This new service allows customers without 3D printers to order selected Vault designs as physical printed models directly from the main Mantic Games webstore. They are also updating their Digital Store membership options and offering single STL file purchases. Hasbro is being sued by its own shareholders who allege that company executives breached their “fiduciary duties” by “overproducing Magic cards,” which is claimed to be “destroying the long-term value of the brand”. The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court of Rhode Island, claims that the overproduction occurred from 2021 to 2023 to cover shortfalls in Hasbro's balance sheet. Mythic Games hands Darkest Dungeon board game files to disappointed backers: Mythic Games, which entered liquidation in October 2025, was unable to manufacture or deliver the second wave of the Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game Kickstarter, originally due in November 2020. Red Hook Studios, the video game publisher, has now given permission for Mythic Games to share all project files, including rules and 3D models, with the failed crowdfunder’s backers. Empire of Bones is a Kickstarter campaign from Agamemnon Press. This is a JUMBO sized hexcrawl adventure that weighs in at twice the size of the Painted Wastelands. Your players can spend an entire campaign exploring 21 areas in The Unholy City of Zeb, a sickening and polluted city ruled by Necromancers and their mummified politicians. Zeb also includes 4 dungeons. Your players can then skip town and explore the 36 hexes of the grey Lands of Dust where they will discover glory and horror in ghoul infested ruins. #dtrpg #mantic #empireofbones #mtg #darkestdungeon Empire of Bones on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thepaintedwastelands/empire-of-bones Preview: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/554430?affiliate_id=2081746 Call of Cthulhu Bundle: https://humblebundleinc.sjv.io/Xmz13G Bob's Humble Bundle: https://humblebundleinc.sjv.io/K0roje Free Guild Ball Starter Set: https://steamforged.com/products/guild-ball-starter-kit Warmachine on MyMiniFactory: https://mmf.io/upturned Mantic Companion App: https://companion.manticgames.com/ Use our Referral code: MCTXEE Support us by Shopping at Miniature Market (afilliate link): https://miniature-market.sjv.io/K0yj7n Support Us by Shopping on DTRPG (afilliate link): https://www.drivethrurpg.com?affiliate_id=2081746 Matt’s DriveThruRPG Publications: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matthew%20Robinson https://substack.com/@matthewrobinson3 Chris on social media: https://hyvemynd.itch.io/ Jeremy's Links: http://www.abusecartoons.com/ http://www.rcharvey.com Support Us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/upturnedtable Give us a tip on our livestream: https://streamlabs.com/upturnedtabletop/tip Donate or give us a tip on Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/2754JZFW2QZU4 Intro song is “Chips” by KokoroNoMe https://kokoronome.bandcamp.com/

Ever had that moment when you realize you've become the "veteran adventurer" in your own party? The RPGBOT crew sure has. In this episode, we channel that energy straight into the Unearthed Arcana Arcane Subclasses, dissecting the Enchanter, Necromancer, and Transmuter Wizards from D&D 2024. Expect laughter, existential dread, and a healthy dose of spell slot math as we ask the real question: Can Wizards of the Coast enchant us again, or are we just too old for these saving throws? Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the hosts continue their deep dive into the Unearthed Arcana Arcane Subclasses playtest for Dungeons and Dragons (D&D 2024). They explore the evolution of several wizard subclasses: the Enchanter Wizard, Necromancer Wizard, and Transmuter Wizard, and analyze how these changes impact gameplay mechanics, class balance, and overall player experience. The discussion begins on a lighthearted note, as the hosts reflect on aging and nostalgia through stories about concerts and generational shifts in music. This leads naturally into a conversation about how nostalgia and design evolution shape our experiences with tabletop RPGs like D&D. From there, the hosts dig into the details of the Unearthed Arcana wizard subclasses: The Enchanter Wizard's new enchantment mechanics spark a conversation about free will, consent, and how these ethical themes play out in gameplay. The Necromancer Wizard gets a significant rework, with temporary hit points for undead minions, exploding skeleton mechanics, and other game design improvements that enhance tactical and thematic play. The Transmuter Wizard's Transmuter Stone, polymorph mechanics, and restoration spells see meaningful updates that make the subclass more versatile and rewarding to play. Throughout the episode, the hosts consider the balance between fun and mechanics, chain reaction gameplay, and hit dice damage calculations, all while highlighting how Wizards of the Coast is actively listening to player feedback in shaping the upcoming D&D 2024 rules. If you love D&D class analysis, wizard subclass deep dives, and thoughtful conversations about game design and player engagement, this episode of the RPGBOT Podcast is a must-listen. Key Takeaways Feeling nostalgic? The hosts open with a candid reflection on aging, concerts, and how nostalgia connects to our love of gaming. The Enchanter Wizard subclass has evolved to offer richer roleplay opportunities and more engaging mechanics—but not without debate around split enchantment and ethical implications. The Necromancer Wizard gains thematic depth with undead minion improvements, temporary hit points, and a delightfully destructive exploding undead mechanic. The Transmuter Wizard subclass sees significant improvements—its Transmuter Stone now provides more tactical flexibility, while polymorph and restoration mechanics enhance its role in party support. Hit dice and chain reaction gameplay significantly affect how damage and encounters unfold, underscoring the importance of thoughtful class balancing. The Unearthed Arcana playtest demonstrates Wizards of the Coast's responsiveness to player feedback and commitment to refining D&D 2024 subclass design. The hosts highlight that balancing fun vs. optimization remains key to an enjoyable Dungeons and Dragons experience. Ultimately, this discussion celebrates both nostalgia and innovation in tabletop RPG design, showing how evolving rules can breathe new life into classic classes. In late 1975, Rush were feeling confident. Their previous album Fly By Night had taken a step forward from their eponymous debut and new drummer Neil Peart had not only set a new standard for drumming but was ready to become the band's lyricist thanks to his voracious appetite for reading. Thanks to Neil, the lyrics could become more introspective while also walking into a fantastic fantasy world of conquering heroes and their journies. But not everything they did was relatable for the average teenage rock fan. Bastille Day, a triumphant rocker that opens the album, harkens back to the French Revolution. I Think I'm Going Bald was a bit of an inside joke but was truly a song about growing up and growing older. While the nostalgic Lakeside Park recalled times from Neil's youth, it was a mellow tune about innocence vs. experience. However the epic Necromancer, a nod to Neil's JRR Tolkien worship, and The Fountain of Lamneth were 12 and 20 minute suites of music more suited to the likes of 70s Yes or Genesis than the Led Zeppelin's of the world who Rush seemed to be more like on their first two outings. While these long, proggy songs are to be admired for their musicianship and the boys maturity at around 22 years old to be able to write and play mature stories, it falls short of what they would achieve on their next record, 2112. Sales, radio play and concert turnouts were so bad that the record company demanded the next album feature more radio friendly material or they'd be dropped. While Rush stuck to their guns and made 2112 their own way, which led them to their greatest success to that point and put them on their own path, Caress of Steel is a bit of an outlier beloved by very few in the #RushFamily. As it turns 50, we finally give it our track x track review.
