The Precious Truthz Podcast was created as a vehicle to continue to drive my journey of Self Love and growing confidence. Growing up I was never considered popular and allowed society and the media to convince me that my brown skin and kinky hair wasn't beautiful. I had to grow to love myself naturally and learn to stay true to myself. Thus the stage name Precious Truthz was created. I know that sharing my TRUTHZ will help encourage people to be true to theirselves, as well. Additionally, I tackle so many other fun and entertaining topics. Each lustrous episode will be filled with life lessons, laughter, lightheartedness, learning, and love. Tune in!
During this season premier I discuss the reasons I delayed the release date of season 2. Tune in! Host IG: @Mzshynetyme Podcast IG: @PreciousTruthz Fitness Page: @TruthzFitness
In the wake of the murder of Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo by Police, I had to discuss the how the creation of Law Enforcement in America is deeply rooted in oppression, why police brutality has continued to occur, and why there is a mistrust of the police in Black communities. Additionally, I discuss the fact that every decade there are new polices created that are purposely created to halt Black Progression. Host IG: Mzshynetyme Podcast IG: PreciousTruthz
I just wanted to update you guys on why I did not release an episode last week, and why the episode I release this week was not the episode I planned to release. Although I am extremely disheartened, I feel like this is a testament to determine how much I want my podcast to succeed. If at first you don't succeed, TRY again!! This episode is a review of the movie 'Judas and the Black Messiah'. Although, the Reads and Rants segment was created to review books, we felt the obligation to review and discuss this heart-wrenching movie. Guest IG: @ms.oye Host IG: @Mzshynetyme Podcast IG: @PreciousTruthz
On this SPECIAL segment of Reads and Rants I bring on my Teenage Son C-Jay as a co-host to discuss the book Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome by Dr. Joy Degruy. We discuss the first section of the book that dissects Back Culture, the concept of time, symbolic imagery, and the education system. My hope for this episode is not only to give a great review of this book, but demonstrate how we can use books to have important conversations with our children and also learn more about our history. On this episode, my guest and I discuss Mental Health in the black community. We have finally reached a point where we understand how critical it is for the black community to address the generational trauma that we have continuously and unintentionally pass down. There are a multitude of ways that we can strive for healing, which include writing. This week I have observed dozens of snippets that show just how Colorism is STILL very prevalent. Although there are facts that show how colorism affects dark-skinned Black people more harshly, there are people who will go out of their way to ignore these facts or attempt to prove that privilege based on complexion is non-existent. This topic is very sensitive and some may even say controversial, however it is my belief that having an open dialogue helps to create understanding and most importantly UNITY.
This episode discusses the importance of Black people using their voices, narrating our own stories, and having the means to produce them. Those who control the media, are the ones who have continued to tell our inaccurate history. My Guest, The Monique Lisa, joins in on the conversation and discusses how she found her voice, how she was inspired to write, and the advise she has for other inspiring writers. This episode was inspired from the Memes that were trending stating "f*ck being shot, you ever been (insert any funny comparison). Have you ever thought if a person who actually got shot found humor in the meme? I did. I have a few friends who, unfortunately, have been shot, and they can't think of anything that hurt more than actually getting shot. So, I decided to invite a guest to the show, who could speak from experience of getting shot, and the advice he has for youth who may be following down a similar path. Just like the meme that merges a serious situation with humor, this episode does the same. Tune in to hear my guest use humility and humor to share his traumatic experience.Guest IG: Sam_Gz_bitchplzHost IG: MzshynetymePodcast IG: PreciousTruthz
Do you know your spouse's Love language? Do you actively listen when your spouse speaks? Do you reflect on arguments and acknowledge the role you played in the dispute? These are all questions Chris and I asked ourselves while reading the Book entitled "Eight Dates." Tune in as we discuss the main topics of the book and determine if the book is accurate, whether the advice is helpful, and much more.
On this episode my Guest Kyndra Krump and I discuss the world star video that was trending, where a man who deemed himself a consultant, was having a conversation with a young lady about her standards, whereas looking for a spouse. The consultant then commenced to belittling the women and citing that her standards were unrealistic. The video was disgusting to say the least. I absolutely HAD to discuss this video and voice my opinion about the topics discussed.Guest IG: Idolizedynasty
This episode we discuss the Classic Book "Song of Solomon" by Toni Morrison. This book takes readers on an unbelievable journey of self discovery, and challenges the reader to rediscover themselves and their own lineage. It's no wonder why the book won the 1977 National Book Critics Circle Award. We touch upon the major themes in the book, which in our opinion are identity, lineage, and greed. The book has so many plot twist, which takes you through a maze like adventure. We also explain why we decided to create a "virtual book club" and how we developed a love of reading. Even if you have not read this book, you can still partake in how we relate this book from the 70s to our current lives in 2020!!
This episode my guest Mia and Teetee discuss how they found themselves in Domestic Violence situations and how they gained the strength to finally walk away from the relationship. We also discuss cheating, parenting, and a host of other topics.
Have you ever been the rebound? I was... in my current relationship! When my spouse and I first started dating, he and his ex-girlfriend had separated less than a month prior. Although, we now have been together for 6 years, the beginning stages of our relationship had lots of issues because he did not take the time he needed to heal before he started dating me. We also discuss growing together, growing as individuals, and so much more.
This episode I touch upon a very vulnerable subject of drug addiction. Up until the age of 10, my father raised me as a single Father while my mother battled to gain sobriety. Due to her addiction several of her children were placed in foster care, and subsequently adopted. After she was finally able tackle her addiction, she slowly rebuilt her life and has done her best to make up for the time lost with her children. I felt this topic was imperative to discuss, as songs and the media are consistently promoting drug usage. It took my mother over 15 years and a tragic accident, that almost cost her life, to really quit drugs forever. Host IG: MzshynetymePoscast IG: PreciousTruthz
This episode my guest Tima discusses how she never allowed mainstream media diminish her self confidence. After discussing the journey of loving myself as a Dark-skin black woman, I wanted to give listeners the opportunity to hear about a different journey through the eyes of a dark-skin black man. On this episode my guest Laz and I discuss the intricacies of not only being a Black Man, but being of Spanish descent. My guest discusses how he learned to navigate the intersectionality of being Dark-Skin, Black, and Spanish. We also entwine other topics such as Hiphop culture, Black Lives Matter, Meg the Stallion, and Much More! Guest IG: @igivsnofux My IG: @MzShyneTymePodcast IG: @PreciousTruthz
This episode my guest Chris and I finalize our thoughts on learning to love the dark-skin we're in!! Every day I fall more in love with the melanin in my skin!! It definitely was a process, and it took reevaluating myself, it took reading books, it took looking at myself in the mirror and pointing out the beauty I see. It took telling myself positive affirmations. It took convincing myself that black is beautiful. Although, since youth my father has verbalize to me that black is beautiful, I allowed society to teach me differently. However, I unlearned society's standard of beauty and taught myself that MELANIN IS MAGIC! IG: @Mzshynetyme @Ms.Oye
In this episode I discuss the process it takes to begin to love yourself. In order to love yourself wholeheartedly you have discover what convinced you otherwise. There are a plethora of elements in my youth that persuaded me to believe that black wasn't beautiful. It was understanding that these negative connotations about black features had been taught to me that allowed me to consciously unlearn them, so I could live in my Truthz.
During this episode I describe a moment in my youth, where I have questioned whether it could be considered a 'Me Too' moment. I always felt that there are victims who have experienced traumatizing moments, and that my experience was minimal in comparison. However, I discuss what I would like people to learn from my experience.
If your wondering why I created another podcast, this pilot episode explains the reasoning! I also discuss a little of what to expect this season. Welcome!! and please join me on my journey of self love and self confidence. Follow me on instagram @Mzshynetyme @PreciousTruthz
