Alien abductions.Hundreds of people say it's happened to them. They're not looking for fame or attention. Some keep it a secret...haunted by memories they can't explain. In Day 3 of PRETEND's Halloween Marathon, we meet Dr. John Mack, a Pulitzer Prize–winning Harvard psychiatrist who risked his reputation to study these so-called abductees. Using hypnosis and relaxation techniques, Mack tried to uncover whether these encounters were dreams, delusions, or something far stranger. Why would a man of science devote his life to stories most people laugh off? And what if the people he studied weren't crazy at all? This episode is part of a larger series I produced on hypnosis. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees are showing up to work and not getting paid on time during the second longest government shutdown. State Department employees who process passports are among those working without pay. That's an unusual step, because that part of the agency is fee funded, and it can normally pay staff on time during a lapse in congressional funds. The Burning Present Moment On the spiritual path, enthusiasm often gives way to what one teacher called “the icky middle”—that in-between place where the excitement of beginning meets the challenge of transformation. It's here that we learn: awakening isn't just about peace or bliss. It's about endurance, sincerity, and courage to live in the truth of the present moment. To experience what's real, we must let go of the small, familiar self. The process can feel raw—like peeling off layers of identity that have clung to us for years. At first, it may even hurt. But that sensitivity marks the beginning of true presence. Just as Plato's cave-dweller must adjust to sunlight after a lifetime of shadows, we too must learn to bear the brilliance of awareness. Many retreat back into the dark, but those who stay discover a new world waiting in the light—a world of clarity, love, and direct experience. Letting go of old patterns, relationships, and self-images brings a natural grief. Yet this too is sacred. We honor what we've outgrown without turning back. In that surrender, space opens for joy and freshness—the pulse of Spirit in the present moment. In Kriya Yoga, our practices—breath, mantra, meditation—are the steady work of freeing ourselves from the cave. When the chains fall away, we begin to sense freedom not as an idea, but as a living awareness. The invitation then is simple but profound: Stay with the light. Live in the burning present moment where Spirit is always now. -

I am in my early 20s, so couldn't get enough advice if I tried. Then we break down how the federal government shutdown is rippling through the housing world, especially when it comes to loans and closings.Next, we get into a common MLS mistake that's been landing agents in hot water — and how to avoid getting a violation yourself. Plus, we unpack the proposed GLAR by-law changes that could open the door for a partial sale of the Louisville MLS — and what that might mean for local Realtors. And to wrap things up on a lighter note, we're building the Mount Rushmore of breakfast foods.

It began with silence — the kind that feels wrong. A woman living on a Native American reservation stepped outside to let her dog out. The night was unnaturally still — no wind, no insects, no sound. Her sister had just fled back inside, terrified. Then, as the woman's flashlight swept across the hill, she saw it: a towering black figure, at least 11 feet tall, moving faster than any human could. Her Great Pyrenees lunged toward it, barking wildly. The floodlights didn't catch it — it moved too quickly, disappearing into the dark. But that wasn't the end. Hundreds of miles away, in rural El Salvador, a boy once faced something eerily similar. From the forest came a putrid smell — then glowing red eyes appeared above him, attached to a crouching, shadowy beast that smiled. The encounter left strange markings carved into his knees: an “R” and a “V.” Later, he learned his father and grandfather — a Jesuit-trained exorcist — had seen the same creature decades earlier. Across generations and continents, something connects these encounters — a dark, ancient intelligence that watches, waits, and sometimes… leaves its mark. #RealGhostStoriesOnline #ShadowPeople #NativeAmericanLegends #TrueHaunting #ElSalvadorParanormal #DemonicEntity #RedEyes #ParanormalEncounter #GenerationalCurse #SupernaturalStories # #Unexplained Love real ghost stories? This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! When Chuck and Joy Hanson set out to buy a quiet country property in Iowa, they never expected to end up as innkeepers to the dead. What they found instead was the Mason House Inn — a historic riverfront hotel built in 1846 for weary steamboat travelers, and one of the most haunted places in the Midwest. From the moment they moved in, the Hansons realized their new home came with some long-term guests — including an elderly woman's ghost who greeted them soon after arrival. But she wasn't alone. Over the years, they've encountered hundreds of spirits, from mischievous children to Civil War soldiers to travelers who simply never checked out. In this spine-tingling episode of The Grave Talks, Chuck and Joy share what it's like to live, work, and sleep among the dead, and how they've come to see their spectral housemates not as intruders, but as part of the family. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees have missed their full paycheques for the first time since the beginning of the government shutdown three weeks ago, with Democrats and Republicans still blaming each other for the lapse in federal funding. We hear from a US federal employee at the Department of Defence on the East Coast. And this week the fight moved to the courts over another politically contentious area – the massive charges the Trump administration wishes to impose on H1B visas – the work visas issued to up to 65,000 foreign workers each year, looking for jobs that US employers say they are unable to fill otherwise. Also, Canada's prime minister, Mark Carney, says he's ready to resume trade negotiations with the United States when Washington is ready. This comes after President Trump announced he was abruptly ending talks because of an anti-tariff advertising campaign by the province of Ontario. (Picture: A sign outside the National Gallery of Art alerts visitors the museum is closed in Washington and remains closed due to the government shutdown on 23 October 2025. Around this time of year, every night, a quiet exodus is occurring. Hundreds of millions of birds are migrating thousands of miles south for the winter. One of the biggest dangers for these tiny travelers? Glass. Researchers estimate that every year in the U. S., collisions with glass windows take out at least a billion birds. Even if the birds initially fly away, these collisions can cause concussions, broken bones, and other injuries; most victims don't survive. After much reporting, NPR science correspondent Nell Greenfieldboyce has found … it doesn't have to be this way. Scientists and researchers have studied how to stop collisions from happening, and examples around the country indicate that even little solutions can make a big difference.Interested in more seasonal animal science?
