The Last Draw: The Artist Battle Podcast

So it turns out your favourite podcasters aren't perfect and have demons and battles to fight outside of our sketchbook battles. So we took some time off to deal with our mental health, regroup and get our happy back! This episode is all about talking through our (then) struggles and even looking back at how we got here with the podcast. Sandee, Joe and Asa talk about the difficulties of depression, anxiety, addiction and how all that can impact any artist. No drawing today, but we definitely still got through to the next page.

After a tiny break-sky the gang is back and getting straight to critique time for our Disney's SOUL pieces. We had so much fun doing them and everyone really brought their A-game. Sandee gets personal about what dwells within her soul and brings her signature glow to the party, Joe finds an authentic jazz spark and Asa gets back to painting basics! The gang is a bit beat this week. So things get a bit more emotional which makes Disney's Pixar's SOUL the perfect topic. We cover all all the themes of the film including the professional musician experience, life and it's goals, passion and even the magic of the black-owned barber shop! Sandee also gives some insider trading tips on what makes this OSCAR-WINNING film such a great one! (Oh! And Asa get a bit deep and misty in this episode! So there's that.)

Finally! We got to review our Mortal Kombat pieces! Asa, Sandee and Joe sit down and discuss the fighters they chose for the week! Meanwhile, Asa takes a few shots at the Jade players in Kombat League... Joe talks about drawing traditionally vs digitally and everyone finally tries to shake off all those 90s vibes!

Tis' video game week! And Asa got to finally go hard for Mortalk Kombat! Turns out the whole gang pretty much grew up on MK. So listen in while Asa, Sandee and Joe take you on a colourfully guided retrospective of the world's most popular fighting game! They do however take a firm park in the 90s on this stroll down memory lane. But its good fun and major laughs like always! And you may even learn a few thing about your favourite artisans!

The gang is back at it after a brief break to talk DC Art this week! It was super fun to see everyone pushing their styles this week into that of COMICS!! Listen in as Joe talks a bit about Krita, Sandee gives you some good Procreate insight and Asa talks sketching greyscale in Photoshop! And as usual things go a little off the rails halfway into the episode thanks to Asa. We had so much fun this week and so many stupid laughs!

Joe loves DC. Asa loves Marvel. And while they're (emotionally) both strong black women, only one of these two dudes will win this argument. Joe makes a very good case for why DC is amazing and relevant but also gives some insider news on their current market status. Sandee also read a DC book this week!! Joe, Asa and Sandee got together (covid-be-damned) to chew some face about the epic rise of the Scarlet-Damn-Witch! Wanda and Viz wrecked us this week! But alas...things aren't important because they last... We say goodbye to our favourite Disney+ thing and countdown the days until Falcon and The Winter Soldier!

The crew get together to talk about their Disney-inspired pieces this week! Everyone was super jazzed about dissecting the work from this week because we are all HUGE Diz-nerds. So we had a lot of fun and even got a little technical with some of the creative process for each of the three pieces.

**RE-RELEASED (3/16/21)** Its Animations Week! So we decided to celebrate all things short and Disney. Sandee, Asa and Joe all came with their favourite short film animations either done by Disney, Pixar or both. We go over Pixar's 'One Man Band' by Andrew Jimenez and Mark Andrews, Disney-Pixar's 'Out' by Steven Hunter and Disney's 'Paperman' by John Kahrs. Sandee also has some awesome insider animator knowledge to share!

This week we got bruised and bloodied with Cyberpunk 2077 art! We discuss our process' and critique each pieces before everything goes off the rails and we find ridiculous things to laugh about. Asa is traveling this week, so it sounds a bit like he had to film in an airport bar...since he's stupid and did! Let the crit begin!

This week was a very special week for Asa. He finally got to give a review for his favourite game of all time! Cyberpunk 2077! Joe gave us a history lesson in all things CP and Sandee threw everybody a very important lesson about motorcylces. Tune in as we discuss this wild dystopian, Keanu Reeves-filled holy wasteland and make some dope CP2077 art! We get pretty slaphappy towards the end, actually.
