What's the most underrated tool in the motion design workflow? The Creative Brief. In today's episode, Justin and Audrey Havey of Sword and Shield sit down with us to break down the creative process behind their launch ident: a hand-drawn, frame-by-frame battle sequence built on intention, world-building, and one very special Easter egg of a Favorite Frame™. We go deep on utilizing the creative brief as the north star of any project, what it really means to build an artist-first studio, and why the best work happens when you let go of control and trust the people you've hired. If you're someone who's obsessed with both the process and the craft of motion design — this one's for you!TIMESTAMPS:0:00 – Intro0:43 – Audrey & Justin's Origin Stories8:10 – The Brand Idea Born on Daily Walks11:22 – Introducing Audrey & Justin's Favorite Frame™14:24 – The Easter Egg: When an Artist Signs Her Work23:34 – The Brief Is the Golden Goose in Motion Design27:44 – World Building as a Brand Animation Strategy39:54 – How Story Arc Shapes the Motion Design Process45:47 – Challenges, Rewards & Pivots53:01 – Their Favorite Frame™ Because…CONNECT & FOLLOW:Spotify → https://spoti.fi/3K8UDd7Apple Podcasts → https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/styleframe-saturdays/id1607658120Amazon Music → https://amzn.in/d/0cziMYRNGUEST LINKS/RESOURCES:Sword & Shield: https://swordandshield.tv/Columbus College of Art & Design: https://www.ccad.edu/Riot Games: https://www.riotgames.com/enCarvana: https://www.instagram.com/vandylgaming/Vandyl Gaming: https://www.instagram.com/vandylgaming/Jessica Rowden: https://jessicarowdenart.com/Kody Orris: https://www.kodyorris.com/Ghost of Tsushima: https://www.ghostof-tsushima.com/Discovering the ‘Why' Behind Your Styleframes with Ryan Summers: https://youtu.be/ThJIz9esa4MNickelodeon: https://www.nick.com/Procreate: https://procreate.com/Maxon Cinema 4D: https://www.maxon.net/en/cinema-4dAdobe Photoshop: https://photoshop.adobe.com/?promoid=HHJ4XB3V&mv=other&mv2=ahome&lang=enAdobe After Effects: https://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects.html*Riverside: https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=styleframesatLofi Cassette by Harrison Amer (theme music licensed by Premiumbeat.com, https://www.premiumbeat.com/home)Permissions granted by the artist(s).Our podcast celebrates Motion Ideation — the raw brainstorming, early-stage thinking and lightbulb moments that shape everything before a single design or keyframe exists. Our May 31 guest is Ruth O’Leary from Rostara. Ruth is a thread painting artist who uses her own version of the technique. Her stitching approach creates a different texture than “conventional” thread painting and provides Ruth with the color-transition flexibility she desires in her art. Equally interesting is Ruth’s design process. To make the art that’s in her head happen, she combines internet archive art, her own sketches, and AI technology. Those sources provide the parts that Ruth combines in the Procreate app to generate the designs that become her needle art. It’s an interesting process that relies, in part, on using the positive benefits of AI. Be sure to visit her website and Instagram channel to enjoy her work.–Gary Listen to the podcast: This show is also available on FlossTube. Mike Rosado interviews Raleigh-based illustrator and designer Ian Wenstrand about his highly detailed, vibrant illustrations blending cityscapes, technology, and imaginative world-building. Wenstrand describes drawing constantly as a kid, studying studio art at University of the Cumberlands (recruited to swim), and moving from production artist retouching roles into graphic design before illustration work organically became steady freelance. He self-published a children's book inspired by artists like Graeme Base and cross-section illustrators, then gained momentum through public art opportunities including a 2018–2019 Citrix window mural and later a major Film NC tourism brochure project featuring five regional illustrations packed with 50+ movie Easter eggs. He outlines his process (two sketch phases in Procreate, then Photoshop for color), time demands, work-life balance with two kids, and the importance of tight contracts to prevent scope creep. Wenstrand shares influences (IC4 Design, Moebius, sci-fi film aesthetics), discusses collaborative "Easter egg" client input, and explains why he avoids using AI, adding an AI clause to contracts and valuing the human creative process.
On this episode of Restorative Reading & Writing for Wellness, I'm sharing all the details on my personal book apothecary for May 2026.Each month, I choose a one-word theme to guide my intentions and create a book apothecary to help me breathe that word into existence through reading, writing and learning. This month, my chosen one word theme is: HOPE.It was sparked by an email from Omega with an invitation inside:This month, we encourage you to reflect on what hope means in your life right now and how that understanding shapes the way you move forward. What are you willing to believe in? What feels ready to emerge? And how might hope guide your next step? That invitation seemed to be written just for me and has sparked an exploration into HOPE ever since then. It's the perfect word to follow my own-word theme of RELEASE from last month. Now that I've released some things that no longer serve me, I can make space for the hope that does. As you likely already know, the best way to welcome a new way of thinking, feeling and being into my life is through reading and writing, paying careful attention to the books I surround myself with and the prompts I write from so I can take inspired action in my life. Here's my current book apothecary to explore what HOPE means to me this month. Scroll to see the contents below and press play on the podcast episode talking all about it.Restorative Reading:I've chosen a mix of books to explore themes of HOPE and to bring more of it into my life. I admit, I have built a pretty tall stack, but I am hopeful that I'll read them all (yes, pun intended). Here are the books in my apothecary along with the publishers blurb for each of them:WAYS TO FIND YOURSELF by Angela Brown (Amazon / Bookshop)Technically, I've already read an advanced copy of the book, but it's going to sit on my shoulders all month long. It will be one of my top books of 2026 (if not ever) and has the kind of quiet power to help you move forward with hope while better appreciating all previous versions of yourself. It's breath-taking. Here's the overview:Grace Whittaker's life is coming apart. In the wake of her mother's death, a stalled writing career, and a slow-motion separation from her husband, Grace is more directionless than ever. But when she returns to Sea Drift, the beach town where she and her mother summered for years, Grace's life comes together in the most unexpected ways.Soon after arriving on the picturesque coastline that meant so much to her, Grace discovers more than she remembers, and for reasons she can't possibly fathom. Amid the weathered surf shops, pastel motels, and sloping beaches, Grace begins to encounter younger versions of herself. Each one is vivid, alive, and breathtakingly real.As she navigates this most surreal week—reconnecting with old friends, trying to solve a quiet mystery about her mother, and revisiting a love she left behind—Grace is forced to remember who she used to be. It's the only way she can figure out who she can still become.THE HOPE CHEST by Viola Shipman (Amazon / Bookshop)Personally, I think all of Viola Shipman's books have threads of hope on the pages and I cannot wait to find them in this book. Here's what I'm looking forward to:The discovery of one woman's heirloom hope chest unveils precious memories and helps three people who have each lost a part of themselves find joy once again.Ever since she was diagnosed with ALS, fiercely independent Mattie doesn't feel like herself. She can't navigate her beloved home, she can't go for a boat ride, and she can barely even feed herself. Her devoted husband, Don, doesn't want to imagine life without his wife of nearly fifty years, but Mattie isn't likely to make it past their anniversary. But when Rose, Mattie's new caretaker, and her young daughter, Jeri, enter the couple's life, happiness and the possibility for new memories return. Together they form a family, and Mattie is finally able to pass on her memories from the hope chest she received from her mother. With each item—including a favorite doll, family dishes, an embroidered apron, and an antique Christmas ornament—the hope chest connects Mattie, Don and Rose to each other and helps them find hope again in the face of overwhelming life challenges.THE PRAYER BOX by Lisa Wingate (Amazon / Bookshop)Do you have a prayer box? I do, but I only have one that my daughter gifted to me. I'm enchanted with the idea of having one for each year of my life as a way to archive it and reflect on who I've become, kind of like my notebooks. Here's the overview:When Iola Anne Poole, an old-timer on Hatteras Island, passes away in her bed at ninety-one, the struggling young mother in her rental cottage, Tandi Jo Reese, finds herself charged with the task of cleaning out Iola's rambling Victorian house. Running from a messy, dangerous past, Tandi never expects to find more than a temporary hiding place within Iola's walls, but everything changes with the discovery of eighty-one carefully decorated prayer boxes, one for each year, spanning from Iola's youth to her last days. Hidden in the boxes is the story of a lifetime, written on random bits of paper--the hopes and wishes, fears and thoughts of an unassuming but complex woman passing through the seasons of an extraordinary, unsung life filled with journeys of faith, observations on love, and one final lesson that could change everything for Tandi.A SPRINKLE OF SWEET SERENDIPITY by Rachel Linden (Amazon / Bookshop)I have had this book preordered for months and I absolutely cannot wait for the latest book from one of my favorite authors. Here's the set-up:Paris trained chocolatier and single mother Emmie Wynne gave up her own dreams six years ago when she returned to her Pacific Northwest coastal tourist town to run her family's struggling candy store. Now on her thirty-fourth birthday, Emmie has only one wish, to be granted the vision that every Wynne woman is given once in her lifetime—a shimmering glimpse of her true destiny. This year, when she blows out her candles, it finally comes true. Her vision is more delectable than she could've imagined—her very own artisanal chocolate shop filled with decadent truffles and caramels, and her celebrity crush, Henry Summers, down on one knee. And when Henry suddenly arrives in town for the summer, offering Emmie the opportunity of a lifetime, the future in her vision suddenly seems possible. But a rekindled connection with Jakob, her former high school best friend turned hunky, brooding tattooed baker, forces Emmie to grapple with the bittersweet realization that her destiny may not be what her heart truly longs for. As the culmination of her vision draws nearer, can Emmie find the courage to create a happiness of her own making?29 GIFTS: HOW A MONTH OF GIVING CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE by Cami Walker (Amazon / Bookshop)If this book doesn't scream HOPE, then I don't know what does:At age thirty-five, Cami Walker was burdened by a battle with multiple sclerosis, a chronic neurological condition that made it difficult for her to walk, work, or enjoy her life. Seeking a remedy for her depression after being hospitalized, she received an uncommon prescription from an African medicine man: Give to others for 29 days . 29 Gifts is the insightful story of the author's life change as she embraces and reflects on the naturally reciprocal process of giving and receiving. Many of Walker's gifts were simple —a phone call, spare change, a Kleenex. Yet the acts were transformative. By Day 29, not only had Walker's health and happiness improved, but she had created a worldwide giving movement. The book also includes personal essays from others whose lives changed for the better by giving, plus pages for the reader to record their own journey. More than a memoir, 29 Gifts offers inspiring lessons on how a simple daily practice of altruism can dramatically alter your outlook on the world. These are the central texts that make up my apothecary this month, but I'm always open to new suggestions and adding along the way. If you have suggestions, let me know in the comments!Plus, if you'd like to get access to my bibliotherapy book calendar embracing this theme with a book recommendation for every day of the month, join my Restorative Reading & Writing Circle here on Substack!Restorative Writing:I'm focused on two kinds of restorative writing this month that I believe will boost my mood and explore what hope means to me: gratitude journaling and letter-writing.First, gratitude journaling. I've always been the kind of person who tries to plan everything and that means scanning for all that could go wrong so I can avoid it. The problem there is that, as much as I hate it, it's harder for me to truly see and notice the good that is all around me. But when I do, everything changes. So this month, I plan to capture my gratitude in my 5 Year Journal (as always), but also in my weekly planner. I've changed what goes inside this planner more times than I'd like to admit, but for now, it's going to capture gratitude. =)Second, letters to my younger self. Last month, I read Jennae Cecelia' poetry book: healing for no one but me. You might know her from her viral ‘I met my younger self for coffee' posts on Instagram inspired by one of her recent poems. Combine this with the plot of WAYS TO FIND YOURSELF and you've got the perfect alchemy to look back at all the past versions of ourselves through the lens of love and with a kind heart. I hope to spend time in my notebook writing letters to the earlier versions of me so I can continue to release the past and look forward to a future bursting with hope.Curiosities to Explore for Inspired Action:I'd like to take another stab at a vegetable garden this summer. Last year, I tried the garden bucket method and it worked pretty well, but this year, my son wants to grow an actual garden with me. I'm talking raised beds, special fencing and all the seeds. Since I have absolutely no idea how to go about this, I'll be searching the Internet for helpful advice and people to follow. Send reinforcements!I've got another BIG thing on my want to learn list that has been there for YEARS, but maybe there is hope for me yet: I'd like to learn how to make things on Procreate: handlettered book quotes, monthly calendars, coloring pages and more. I purchased a course years ago and hope I can still access it. I just need to drop a chunk of change on an Apple pencil….or a knockoff. Someone, please hold me accountable for this goal and nudge me with pushy kindness. =)Things to Love:As I begin to define what HOPE means to me, I keep returning to this gorgeous visual reminder of the word from Christie Zimmer:This video is both beautiful and informative and I haven't stopped thinking about a key nugget found inside: Hope is about believing AND doing. For so long, I've defined hope as passive actions: hoping, wishing, praying for things to get better or to happen. But this video (and the research Christie cites) reminds me that hope is also an action, too. The tiny hopeful steps we take in the moment pave the road ahead for the things we hope for to actually happen. Plus, I really want to see if I can make one of those beautiful HOPE booklets! =)Once you've listened, I'd love to know what you think of this episode. Leave your thoughts in the comments! If YOU would like to build your book apothecary with me on the podcast, click here to apply!Let's Work Together!I love to connect with others around our shared love of reading and writing. Here are some ways we can work together to create a life you love where restorative reading and writing is at the center of it all:
No busques precisión: busca coherencia geográfica. Digital sencillo: Inkarnate, Wonderdraft, Dungeon Scrawl. Digital avanzado: Krita, Photoshop, Procreate. Esperamos que os guste! Música de Uppbeat: License code: DSJHNLFTIRWBKXPO Música de Youtube

What if the secret to a standout short-term rental isn't just great design, but a fully cohesive experience that starts the moment a guest clicks on your listing? In this episode, I'm joined by sisters Ashlyn and Olivia, the creative powerhouses behind Abideaway. We're diving into how a simple idea shared over a Marco Polo video evolved into a full-service studio that helps hosts build standout stays through the perfect marriage of design and strategy. We talk about:How interior design, branding, and web presence work together to create a seamless narrative for your propertyMoving beyond "who" your guest is to what they are worrying about, and how to solve those fears through intentional layout and amenitiesWhy custom art is more than just a "photo op" and how it can be used to stop the scroll and reinforce your property's storyPractical, high-impact advice on where to spend a limited budget in your kitchen, living room, or outdoor space for maximum ROIHow to mine architecture, local history, and personal passions to guide every design decision you makeBut this isn't just about aesthetics. It's about intentionality. Ashlyn and Olivia pull back the curtain on their creative process, from using Procreate mockups to ensure owner confidence to scoping mural projects that actually last. You'll hear their "design hotline" wisdom on how to avoid the "I wish they'd thought of that" moments that kill guest reviews, and how to create a space that feels custom, memorable, and deeply resonant. If you've been looking for the bridge between "just a rental" and a "cohesive brand," this conversation is your roadmap. Get ready to stop guessing and start designing with a clear, story-driven purpose.HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY POINTS:[00:59] A short introduction about our guests, Ashlyn Feller and Olivia Gerber from Abideaway, and shares how the idea started organically between them as sisters with complementary creative skill sets[04:31] Ashlyn and Olivia emphasize defining the ideal guest and starting with priorities to build a cohesive STR brand[07:45] Olivia explains starting with the ideal guest avatar and using a phased approach to build a cohesive STR brand experience[11:35] Olivia shares her philosophy of designing with intentionality and uncovering the story of a property[13:27] Olivia describes ways for hosts who are bootstrapping their STR design to uncover and build the story of their property[16:04] Ashlyn and Olivia explain when themed properties make sense and the role of data in decision-making [17:44] Olivia shares why engaging a designer early in the acquisition process is beneficial [18:45] Olivia and Ashlyn talk about what to consider in design before closing on a property and explain that designers can also refresh or elevate underperforming properties[20:37] Ashlyn shares why murals are a powerful design tool for short-term rentals and describes how hosts can budget for them based on size, complexity, and customization [24:16] Ashlyn describes her mural creation process from concept to installation, including design mockups, painting techniques, and care, and [27:26] Ashlyn shares creative ideas for placing murals in both large and smaller spaces and introduces the STR Sisterhood Design Hotline as a resource for hosts seeking design guidance[29:21] Ashlyn and Olivia describe the STR Sisterhood Design Hotline and what folks can expect if they've never been to a design hotline[32:39] Ashlyn and Olivia explain how even a modest $1,000 budget can meaningfully improve different areas of a short-term rental when spent strategically[34:01] Ashlyn explains how to approach branding with a limited budget by focusing on defining the overall guest experience and building a cohesive brand beyond just a logo[37:44] The lightning round Golden Nuggets:“We have to go deeper and understand what that person is thinking when they're looking at properties, what that person is thinking when they are making a booking decision, what that person is stressed out about, what they're afraid of, what they're concerned about if they book the wrong property, because those are the things that ideal guest is not actually telling anyone that's a conversation he or she is having with themselves.”“Pull some piece of the puzzle and use that as, like a seed of inspiration.”“I am a huge believer that we are all in business to, not only, you know, improve our own lives. But isn't it great that we can proactively help each other like that just makes us all go to bed at night feeling that much better, right?”“Build your network and build it strong.”“If we're not aware, number one of things we need to tackle in our businesses, or things that may need improvement in our businesses, if we don't dedicate focused thinking time, which is that white space, we can go for months and even years without having those problems solved or those new ideas generated.”Let's Connect:Website : https://www.abideaway.com/Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090299230620Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/abideaway/ Enjoyed the show? Photo: The microgrid at Blue Lake Rancheria generates renewable energy and provides about $150,000 in annual electricity savings. (Courtesy Schatz Energy Resource Center) Microgrids can be a lifeline in remote areas prone to power outages, according to local and tribal leaders in Humboldt County in California. Leaders spoke at an event on energy security in an era of wildfire, drought, and sea-level rise — linked to climate change. Suzanne Potter has more. Dr. Arne Jacobson, director of the Schatz Energy Research Center at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt says microgrids often involve solar panels plus battery storage. “During normal operation, they’re connected to the regional grid, and they can export power and generate revenue. And during a regional grid outage, they operate in “island mode” and can provide resilience energy services.” Microgrids have gained popularity in recent years as utilities have had to shut off power intermittently during wildfires and high wind events. Jacobson adds that the Willow Creek and Hoopa substations and their associated circuits in the Humboldt area are frequently on the top 10 list of least reliable circuits in the state. Beth Burks, who directs the Redwood Coastal Energy Authority, says its microgrid serves as backup power to the airport, and kept it online for 15 hours in December 2022, when an earthquake knocked out power. “We’re all familiar with how important it is to keep the airport going. We do emergency medical transport out of there, and the Coast Guard serves 250 miles of search-and-rescue territory. And again, we can keep them going when we go into ‘islanding.'” “Islanding” is the term for a system that can kick in and power a local area when the main utility grid goes down. Heidi Moore-Guynup with the Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe says its microgrid saved the day during the 2022 blackout, keeping several tribal buildings running so they could provide ice, gas, medical care, and lodging. “We want to be known as the safe place to go, the islands in times of despair. We are a very small rural community, but we are engaged in technological advances that can help rural global energy access.” Ketchikan-based artist Savannah LeCornu was selected as this year's poster artist for the Alaska Folk Festival in Juneau, Alaska. (Courtesy Jason Baldwin) Ketchikan, Alaska-based artist Savannah LeCornu was recently selected as this year's poster artist for the Alaska Folk Festival in Juneau. The annual spring event seeks art submissions from Alaska creatives for festival merchandise, including its promotional poster. KRBD's Hunter Morrison sat down with LeCornu to discuss how the opportunity will help expand representation of Indigenous artists throughout Alaska. Hunter Morrison: Can you tell me a little bit about what inspires your work as an artist? Savannah LeCornu: I'm an Indigenous artist. I’m part of three different tribes. I’m Tsimshian, Haida and Nez Perce. So a lot of my inspiration comes from the art styles of my tribes, as well as my family, surroundings, environment, friends, that kind of thing. HM: Can you tell me a little bit more about what mediums of art you specialize in? SL: Yeah. So mainly I draw and I paint. I do a lot of traditional drawing, but I also do digital drawing as well. So, working with Procreate on my iPad. And then I also do painting, mainly acrylic, but I have done watercolor here and there. HM: You were selected as this year’s poster artist for the Alaska Folk Festival. Do you have a design yet for that poster? Or, do you have ideas of what that design might look like? SL: I don’t know how secret they are with it. I will say my inspirations were some of my favorite musicians in Alaska, as well as the northern lights. HM: How will this opportunity expand not only your work as an artist, but expand the celebration of Indigenous people and Indigenous art? SL: Wow, what a great question. What I’m hoping for with being the artist for this year’s folk fest is that my art gets started to be seen more widely throughout Alaska. I will say it’s not my most obvious Indigenous design. I will say all of my art inherently becomes Indigenous because I am Indigenous, but at the same time, there’s no form line in it. There’s no traditional Native art in it for this design. But I still hope that means that people look into my own art and see more of what I do, and that people just explore more of it. Get National Native News delivered to your inbox daily. A second funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives. As KJZZ's Gabriel Pietrorazio reports, U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) sought to create a safeguard for tribes getting caught up in immigration crackdowns. Rep. Grijalva has been regularly meeting with tribal leaders from across southern Arizona, like the Pascua Yaqui, Tohono O'odham, and Gila River. She says they are all telling her the same thing. “DHS must consult with tribes. They're not doing it now. This administration doesn't honor sovereignty.” Grijalva proposed an amendment to the funding bill that would have required U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to consult with tribes before conducting immigration enforcement on their land, but her effort to attach that requirement to a DHS funding bill failed. “They're all concerned with the presence of ICE and how they are profiling their members because, you know, they might look like working people who have darker skin.” Meanwhile, Kristi Noem has been ousted by President Donald Trump as DHS secretary. He named U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin (Cherokee/R-OK) as her replacement. “Removing Noem doesn't root out the lawlessness at ICE. Maybe leadership style might be different, but the end goal is still the same.” Ketchikan-based artist Savannah LeCornu was selected as this year's poster artist for the Alaska Folk Festival in Juneau, Alaska. In this episode of NeedleXChange I interview Ruth O'Leary.Ruth O'Leary is an award-winning embroiderer who's been exploring AI image generation as a tool for design, iteration, and self-expression.In part two, we move from the big AI conversation into the grounded maker reality: how Ruth learned needlework, what the Embroiderers' Guild taught her, and why community still matters even in an online world.Ruth also breaks down their process — using AI outputs as reference material, collaging and redrawing in Procreate, then translating it into applique and embroidery — plus a quick run through favourite sci‑fi and a brilliant family‑history curveball.Timestamps:00:00:00 - Introduction00:01:30 - The Crafting Landscape: A Need for More Exposure00:02:46 - Roots of Creativity: Personal Journeys in Needlework00:04:47 - Community and Learning: The Value of Guilds00:07:51 - Bridging Generations: Attracting Youth to Craft Guilds00:11:07 - Digital vs. Physical: The Evolution of Craft Communities00:12:58 - Exploring Techniques: The Art of Stitching00:14:32 - Cultural Reflections: The Influence of Music and Film00:25:12 - Heritage and Legacy: Stitching Poetry into ArtLinks:Website: rostara.co.ukInstagram: rostara.handmadeIntro music is Far Enough by Shiver Disk via Epidemic Sound.About NeedleXChangeAn artist interview podcast exploring contemporary embroidery and textile art.

In this episode of Paper Talk, Quynh Nguyen, Jessie Chui, and Sara Kim dive into the art and philosophy of creating your own paper flower templates. What begins as a practical discussion quickly blooms into a conversation about creativity, confidence, and the evolution of each artist's personal style. They explore how templates serve as both a foundation and a springboard, and how learning from others can give you structure, but learning from nature gives you freedom. The hosts reflect on their early years when few templates existed, the role of technology like iPads and AI in documenting and improving designs, and why embracing imperfection makes your flowers truly yours. “Templates give confidence, but real mastery comes from experience, skill, and time.” - Jessie Whether you're new to paper floristry or refining your craft, this episode is an invitation to experiment, observe, and grow. What You'll Hear in this Episode: How to transition from using templates to designing your own Finding confidence in imperfection Using technology (Procreate, Canva, ChatGPT) to organize and elevate your creative process How selling your templates can lead to new income streams The joy and discipline of revisiting flowers over time

What's the solution to lower population growth? Well, it's not to import a bunch of loud, dirty, third-worlders who can't integrate into western society. It's to get white people to start making babies! At least, that's what The Economist thinks the MAGA fertility fanatics want. And honestly, I'm 100% here for it!Make America procreate again: among the MAGA fertility fanatics

Donald emphasizes the critical importance of networking, highlighting that success often depends more on who you know than what you know. He candidly shares insights about handling rejection, noting that sometimes a rejection says more about the viewer's limitations than the artist's talent. The beginning of anything creative is often the most challenging part. In this episode of Paper Talk, we're sharing a heartfelt look into the first two weeks of our Mastermind. If you're starting a handmade business, building your creative brand, or craving support from like-minded artists, then this conversation is for you. What You'll Hear in This Episode: How to overcome perfectionism when starting a creative business Why naming your business doesn't have to be forever The power of encouragement in an artist's life Tips for making and organizing paper flower templates How community transforms your mindset Start Before You're Ready One of the biggest struggles our Mastermind members shared was getting started. Choosing a name, launching a website, or posting on Instagram can feel overwhelming when you aim for perfection. Jessie reminds us, “It doesn't have to be forever. You just need to start.” That shift - from permanence to progress - is a game changer. Claiming Your Identity as an Artist Quynh speaks about her journey to embracing the title “artist.” Saying “I am a paper artist” daily helped her show up with more confidence and creative freedom. If you've ever questioned whether you're “allowed” to call yourself an artist, this part of the conversation will inspire you to claim that space. Encouragement Is Fuel Sara opens up about the encouragement she never received growing up and how being part of this Mastermind has filled that gap. “I crave someone cheering me on,” she said. That authentic, artist-to-artist support can make a huge difference, especially when working from home or navigating your business solo. Creative Tips for Paper Flower Artists Want to make better templates? Start by dissecting real flowers. Can't find the bloom you need? Use Google Images to study petal shape and proportion. Sara and Jessie share their process using Procreate, scanning petals, and organizing templates digitally and physically. These tips will help streamline your workflow and make it easier to revisit designs in the future. What's Next for the Mastermind: A New 6-month Mastermind Experience Starting September 2025 These first two weeks reminded us of why we created this space to begin with. A six-week program offers valuable momentum, but we imagine a six-month experience starting in September 2025 with new and existing Mastermind members will allow deeper growth and connection. Creative businesses evolve slowly, and we want to make space for that. We'd love to welcome you into the circle. Join the Waitlist now! ------ Join the Conversation! We'd love to hear from you! Share your insights with us on Instagram @papertalkpodcast or join our Facebook community discussions. Your experiences inspire us just as much as we hope to inspire you. Stay tuned for more inspiring episodes, and don't forget to subscribe to Paper Talk wherever you listen to podcasts. If you've been craving a creative community or wondering how to take your next step, let this episode remind you that you are not alone. You can start small. You can begin today.
In this heartwarming episode of Reading with Your Kids, host Jed Doherty takes listeners on a fascinating journey through the world of children's storytelling, featuring three incredible creators who are redefining children's literature. First up, Scott Rothman and Zachariah Ohora share the magical backstory of their hilarious picture book, KittyBunkPort. Born from a playful moment with Rothman's son in Maine, the book transforms a simple mispronunciation into a whimsical tale about a town full of scaredy cats and a haunted lighthouse. Their conversation reveals the beautiful, often unexpected ways children's books come to life. Rothman, known for his childlike sense of humor, and Ohora, with his "Fuzzy Town" illustration style, demonstrate the incredible synergy between authors and illustrators. They candidly discuss their creative processes, from Rothman's trusty legal pad to Ohora's transition to digital illustration with Procreate. The episode then shifts to Helen Dunlap Newton, who introduces her middle-grade novel "Careful What You Hear" - a compelling story about Noah, a young protagonist with a cochlear implant who can unexpectedly hear thoughts. Newton, a veteran sixth-grade teacher, brings remarkable insight into adolescent experiences and the importance of diverse representation in children's literature. What makes this episode truly special is the genuine passion these creators have for storytelling. They're not just writing books; they're creating worlds that spark imagination, encourage empathy, and make children laugh. Whether it's Rothman's comedic cat adventures or Newton's innovative exploration of hearing technology, each story is crafted with love and understanding. For parents, educators, and book lovers, this episode is a delightful reminder of the magic that happens when creativity meets compassion. It's a must-listen for anyone who believes in the transformative power of children's literature. Joe Moore sits down with UK-based artist Harry Pack, whose vibrant, surreal, and often psychedelic art has captured the attention of dreamers, psychonauts, and seekers worldwide. Known for channeling the aesthetic of altered states rather than simply replicating them, Harry discusses his journey from childhood doodles to being a full-time artist working digitally in Procreate. He shares stories of deep inspiration from figures like Ott—whose album Hiraeth he recently illustrated—and how art has helped him integrate mystical experiences, recovery, and even potential alien contact. The conversation explores the therapeutic potential of art, the role of storytelling in visionary creativity, and the emergence of recurring themes in Harry's work—most notably, the enigmatic “Purple UFO.” We also get into the importance of community, nature, and play in feeding the creative spirit, and Harry's aspirations to build spaces for collective art-making and integration. Children are a gift from God. Children have integrity and rights. With these key principles in mind, Fr. Mike reviews the Catechism's teachings about marriage, family, child bearing, sterility, and adoption. Because “a child is not something owed to one but is a gift”, we must protect the dignity of the child at the forefront of all decisions. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2373-2379. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. We often think of the difference between a boy and a man as a matter of age. But Brian Tome says that there can be 15-year-old men and 45-year-old boys, and that the real difference maker in being grown up isn't a matter of the number of years you accumulate but the qualities, behaviors, and mindset you possess.Brian is a pastor and the author of The Five Marks of a Man. Today on the show, Brian unpacks what he thinks are the marks of mature manhood. We talk about the need to have a vision and how life-giving hobbies can create that vision. Brian argues that manhood requires staking out a minority position, being part of a pack, and creating more than you consume. And we discuss the ways men can still be protectors in the 21st century.Resources Related to the PodcastAoM Podcast #78: The Myth of Following Your PassionAoM Article: The Ultimate List of Hobbies for Men — 75+ Ideas For Your Free TimeAoM series on the 3 P's of Manhood: Protect, Procreate, Provide AoM Podcast #926: The 5 Shifts of ManhoodAoM Podcast #810: How to Turn a Boy Into a ManAoM Article: Why Are Female Friendships the Ideal?
