Steve Agee is a beloved actor, writer, comedian, and all-around funny person, seen most recently as John Economos in the John Cena DC Comics series Peacemaker on HBO. You may have caught his work in films like The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2. You didn't see him in Meatballs, the 1979 Bill Murray summer camp comedy, because Steve was just a wee boy back then. Steve has seen Meatballs, though. Oh has he ever. He loves the film, loves summer camp in general, although in his middle-age he has realized what a terrible employee Bill Murray's character really is in the film. Insubordinate rule breaker who should be fired, when you stop and think about it. Steve also talks about what it's like to have a job like his where a day of labor might mean having to kill a gorilla with a chainsaw. Not a real gorilla, Sleepyheads, it's just pretend. And we won't play that scene for you. We want you to sleep. Steve has a very soothing voice, by the way. So that will help. He even listens to the show! But he probably won't listen to this episode because that would feel weird.Watch Peacemaker on HBO Max.Hey Sleepy Heads, is there anyone whose voice you'd like to drift off to, or do you have suggestions on things we could do to aid your slumber?Email us at: sleepwithcelebs@maximumfun.org.Follow the Show on:Instagram @sleepwcelebsBluesky @sleepwithcelebsTikTok @SleepWithCelebsJohn is on Bluesky @JohnMoeJohn's acclaimed, best-selling memoir, The Hilarious World of Depression, is now available in paperback.
In this 2013 Word Balloon conversation, artist Rags Morales discusses his pivotal work on Action Comics during DC Comics' New 52 relaunch. Morales reflects on collaborating with writer Grant Morrison to redefine Superman for a new generation—depicting a younger, more grounded Man of Steel in his early years as a social crusader. The discussion explores the creative process behind redesigning the character's look, the artistic challenges of working on such an iconic title, and how Action Comics helped set the tone for the New 52 era across the DC Universe.

After a short break, Trekcast is back with a brand-new episode! This week, we're diving into Star Trek: Khan, the official audio drama from Paramount that explores the untold backstory of Khan Noonien Singh—complete with surprise guest stars from across the Star Trek universe. But that's not all: Could a new Star Trek series starring Captain Archer be on the horizon? Did you know a Ghostbuster almost joined Deep Space Nine? And is Star Trek about to get a little more magical? We've gathered all the latest Star Trek news, rumors, and stories—and we're breaking it all down on this week's Trekcast!News:https://trekmovie.com/2025/10/01/exclusive-scott-bakula-led-star-trek-united-pitch-explores-archers-family-romulan-war-aftermath/https://screenrant.com/star-trek-deep-space-nine-ernie-hudson-ghostbusters-audition/https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/star-trekStar Trek: Khan is an American audio drama series directed by Fred Greenhalgh and written by Kirsten Beyer and David Mack, based on a story by Nicholas Meyer. It is part of executive producer Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek Universe. The series explores Khan Noonien Singh during the nearly 20 years that he is stranded on the planet Ceti Alpha V between the events of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Space Seed" (1967) and Meyer's film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982). Naveen Andrews stars as Khan, with Wrenn Schmidt, Sonya Cassidy, George Takei, and Tim Russ also starring. Work on the project, which originated as a three-episode television miniseries written by Meyer, was first revealed in June 2017. That version did not move forward due to the cost of producing such a short series. Kurtzman revealed plans to expand the Star Trek Universe into scripted podcasts in May 2022, and Meyer announced Star Trek: Khan – Ceti Alpha V that September. In November 2023, the series was being expanded from Meyer's three-episode plan. Voice recording was completed by the end of February 2025, when the main cast and crew were announced along with the shortened title Star Trek: Khan. Additional casting and the series' framing story were revealed in July, with Takei and Russ announced to be reprising their roles from previous Star Trek media. Star Trek: Khan premiered on all major podcast streaming platforms on September 8, 2025. The nine-episode series will be released weekly until November 3.Trekcast: The Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trek Podcast!Welcome to Trekcast, the galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast! In this episode, we dive deep into Wonder Woman: Dead Earth, one of DC Black Label's most brutal and emotionally gripping comics. Written and illustrated by Daniel Warren Johnson, this post-apocalyptic Wonder Woman story pushes Diana to her limits like never before. We review the plot, characters, twists, artwork, and darker tone of this four-part series. From Wonder Woman awakening to a ravaged “Dead Earth” to her desperate fight for humanity alongside a group of survivors, this story redefines Diana in a bleak but powerful way. Johnson's unique artwork and storytelling style perfectly capture the mix of tragedy, brutality, and hope that makes this book unforgettable. Joining me for this review is special guest Loren from Coffee & Lore, who brings her own perspective and insight into the story's themes and emotional weight. Together, we break down what makes Wonder Woman: Dead Earth one of the most unique DC Black Label comics and why fans of Wonder Woman, DC Comics, and post-apocalyptic storytelling should not miss it.

This episode dives deep into the legend of the Murder City Devil by comic creator Evan Quiring. We explore the city's eerie and supernatural backdrop for the comic, including some of our weird experiences: secret tunnels, ghost stories, hidden love letters in old walls, and the King's Head in the Exchange District. We break down some of the inspirations within the comic, based on old lore and stories from yesteryear. We also dive into comic culture itself — discussing timelines, character progression, and continuity wars: DC Comics vs Marvel Comics, the “Brand New Day” era, Captain Jean DeWolf, and remembering when Marvel “cinema” was “crap” in the '70s and '80s versus today. We talk Gregory Chomichuk, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (as the Lennon & McCartney of comics), Bill Finger finally getting credit for Batman, and how creators are like bands. Duncan MacKenzie and Ryan Peter Miller drive up to the Dunn Museum in Libertyville, IL to talk with legendary comics painter Alex Ross. Known for Marvels, Kingdom Come, and decades of redefining superhero realism, Ross reflects on his career trajectory, his education at the American Academy of Art, his influences (from Neal Adams to Dave McKean), his early breaks with Now Comics and Leo Burnett storyboarding, and his transition into large-scale mural projects for Marvel and DC. The conversation ranges from comics history, realism in superhero depictions, variant cover economics, the physicality of superheroes, to America's appetite for dystopian narratives versus a return to the “pure Superman.” Ross is candid, funny, and deeply reflective about the comics medium, painting, and storytelling. Dive into the remarkable transformation of America's longest-running comic book franchise as we explore how Archie Comics evolved from wholesome teenage stories to groundbreaking horror, genre-bending crossovers, and multimedia dominance. The year 2009 marked a pivotal turning point when John Goldwater Jr. took the reins following the passing of the previous leadership. What followed was nothing short of revolutionary—Archie Comics became the first major publisher to embrace same-day digital releases, introduced Riverdale's first openly gay character Kevin Keller, and ventured into mature storytelling with "Life with Archie," which culminated in Archie's heroic death protecting Senator Keller from assassination. Most surprising was Archie's bold foray into horror with titles like "Afterlife with Archie" and "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," reimagining these beloved characters in genuinely terrifying scenarios. We examine how these titles weren't merely shock value but thoughtful explorations of the characters' relationships in extreme circumstances. Meanwhile, crossovers with everyone from the Punisher and Predator to KISS and the Ramones demonstrated the remarkable versatility of these iconic characters. What makes Archie's evolution truly fascinating is how these characters function as universal archetypes that work across genres—whether in post-apocalyptic wastelands, mecha anime homages, or multiverse adventures. This adaptability has allowed Archie to remain culturally relevant across multiple generations and media formats, from comics to television hits like "Riverdale" and "Sabrina."The enduring appeal of Archie Comics lies in its representation of an idealized American teenage experience—a nostalgic foundation that, when combined with a willingness to evolve with the times, has enabled this franchise to thrive for nearly a century. Join us as we celebrate how Archie has managed to stay true to its essence while constantly reinventing itself for new audiences and changing times.Subscribe now and share your favorite Archie memories or modern interpretations in the comments!

In this conversation, veteran animation writer and producer Alan Burnett reflects on his groundbreaking work shaping Batman: The Animated Series, the show that redefined superhero storytelling for television. Burnett walks us through the creative challenges of translating Gotham City's noir-infused atmosphere and complex characters into a format that spoke to both kids and adults, setting a new standard for superhero animation in the 1990s.We also dive into his collaboration with Paul Dini on DC Comics' adaptation of the series, where the two carried the show's tone and visual style onto the comic page. Burnett explains how the book's run—often praised for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the animated classic—expanded the mythology, introduced new dimensions to fan-favorite villains, and helped bridge the gap between animation and comics. This interview offers rare insight into how Burnett balanced studio mandates, creative instincts, and long-term storytelling, all while working alongside some of the most influential voices in modern Batman history.
