Career / Process You broke in around 2006, and you're now pushing close to two decades in comics. How has your approach to storytelling changed from those early years to now? You've been at this for nearly 20 years at this point. What's something you understand about comics today that you wish you knew when you started? You're writing across multiple major franchises right now. How do you shift your voice between something like Superman, Iron Man, and G.I. Joe? On top of all this, you wrote a story in Creepshow Vol. 4 #5 titled Artificial Ignorance. Was that a story you had in a drawer, or…how did that come to be? Superman / Superboy-Prime Superboy-Prime has always been a volatile character, but here he feels almost desperate to prove himself. How do you balance his edge with making him someone readers want to follow? With Manchester Black entering the picture, what excites you about putting those two characters in conflict specifically? Any Superman elements/tropes you want to touch? Iron Man You've said Tony Stark is one of your favorite characters. What's something about Tony that you feel hasn't been explored enough in past runs? Madame Masque and A.I.M. feel like they're operating at a higher level here. What makes them the right villains for this phase of the story? Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man Do you have a favorite Universal Monsters adaptation? Do you have any favorite werewolf stories? This feels like a very grounded, almost psychological take on the Wolf Man. What drew you to that angle? Is the when of this story important to the overall experience? What makes the Wolf Man a character worth revisiting right now? Rapid Fire Question Round (Stolen from Stephen Colbert so that a guest is “known”): Best sandwich? What's one thing you own that you really should throw out? Apples or oranges? What is the scariest animal? Have you ever asked someone for their autograph? What do you think happens when we die? Favorite action movie? Favorite smell? Least favorite smell? Flat or sparkling? Most used app on your phone? If you could have dinner with any three characters you've written before, who would they be and why? You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life: what is it? Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is widely considered one of the best Supergirl stories ever written, but does it deserve all the praise? With the upcoming Supergirl movie drawing heavy inspiration from Tom King's acclaimed DC Comics graphic novel, we decided it was finally time to sit down and read Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. After finishing the book, we found ourselves agreeing on some things, disagreeing on others, and having a fascinating discussion about one of DC's most celebrated modern comics. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in a full spoiler-filled review, discussing the story, characters, themes, artwork, pacing, world-building, and whether this graphic novel deserves its reputation as a modern DC Comics classic. COLD OPEN (First 30 Minutes) Before discussing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, we dive into several major topics from the worlds of comic books, superhero movies, and pop culture: • The new Lanterns trailer and its detective-inspired mystery elements • Our thoughts on Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart's dynamic • Why Lanterns could become one of DC Studios' most important projects • The endlessly delayed Blade movie and why Marvel Studios can't seem to get it made • What makes Blade such a seemingly straightforward superhero movie to adapt • The surprising announcement of the Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd television series • Our theories on what that bizarre DC project could become • New casting announcements for The Batman Part II • Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry joining the cast • Speculation surrounding Harvey Dent, Gilda Dent, Victor Zsasz, Harvey Bullock, and other Gotham City characters FULL SPOILER REVIEW After the cold open, we jump into a deep spoiler discussion of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Topics include: • Kara Zor-El's characterization • The story's themes and emotional core • Tom King's writing style • Bilquis Evely's incredible artwork • The strengths and weaknesses of the narrative • Pacing issues and storytelling choices • Favorite and least favorite moments • The supporting cast • The book's entertainment value • How faithful the Supergirl movie should be to the comic • Why our opinions on the story differ so much While all three of us agree that the artwork is phenomenal and that Kara is written exceptionally well, our opinions diverge when it comes to the pacing, character decisions, and overall effectiveness of the story. Two hosts came away largely positive on the graphic novel, while one host found himself far less impressed by the experience. First Print Awards l'an passé ! In this episode of Going Back to Smallville, we're looking back at The Death and Return of Superman, one of the standout films in the DC Animated Movie Universe and a surprisingly emotional adaptation of one of DC's most iconic stories. We talk about why Superman's death still hits so hard, how the movie balances the classic Death of Superman storyline with the larger DCAMU continuity, and why the changes involving Cyborg Superman, Darkseid, and the final act actually work better than we expected. From Doomsday's brutal arrival to the world's grief after Superman's sacrifice and the mystery surrounding his return, this movie gave us plenty to love, plenty to discuss, and a healthy dose of nostalgia for one of the most important Superman stories ever told. Joe Illidge Breaks Down Dakota's Legacy and the Future of Milestone in DC's New History of the DC Universe Comic book history is full of legendary moments, but few were as revolutionary as the arrival of Milestone Media in the 1990s. Created by industry visionaries including Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek Dingle, Milestone introduced a wave of heroes that reflected communities and perspectives rarely seen in mainstream comics. Now, that legacy continues with New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident #1, a powerful new anthology exploring Dakota City's place within the larger DC mythology. At the center of this project is Joe Illidge, a respected creative voice in the comics industry who has worked across editorial, writing, and cultural advocacy roles throughout his career. Illidge has long been connected to the spirit of Milestone storytelling — stories that combine superhero action with real-world themes about identity, community, and social change. In The Dakota Incident, the narrative digs deeper into the events surrounding Dakota City and the heroes who protect it, exploring how these characters intersect with the broader history of the DC Universe. For longtime fans, the story represents a powerful return to one of comics' most important cultural milestones. For new readers, it offers an opportunity to discover why characters like Static, Icon, Rocket, and Hardware remain so influential today. As Illidge and the creative team expand the mythology of Dakota, they also reaffirm something fans have always known: Milestone isn't just a comic imprint. It's a movement. The Milestone Revolution: A Visual Timeline of Dakota City 1993 — Milestone Media Is Born In 1993, four visionary creators Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle launched Milestone Media, a publishing initiative designed to bring new voices, authentic communities, and diverse perspectives into superhero comics. Partnering with DC Comics for distribution, Milestone quickly became one of the most culturally important imprints in comics history. Their mission was simple but revolutionary: Create Superheroes that reflected the REAL World! 1994 — Dakota City Debuts The world is introduced to Dakota City, a fictional urban setting inspired by real American cities. Four major series launch almost simultaneously: • Static – teenage hero Virgil Hawkins becomes the electrifying voice of a new generation • Icon – an alien with the perspective of a Black conservative intellectual • Hardware – a corporate genius turned armored vigilante • Blood Syndicate – a street-level gang of superpowered antiheroes These comics brought social commentary, urban realism, and cultural authenticity rarely seen in superhero books at the time. 2000 — Static Shock Hits Television The character Static explodes into mainstream pop culture with the animated series Static Shock. The show runs for four seasons and introduces Dakota City and its heroes to an entirely new generation of fans. For many viewers, Static Shock becomes their first Black teenage superhero role model on television. 2020 — Milestone Returns After years of absence, Milestone Media returns with a major revival initiative. New series reintroduce Dakota City for modern readers: • Static Season One • Icon and Rocket Season One • Hardware Season One The revival reconnects the characters to the modern DC Universe while maintaining the cultural themes that made Milestone iconic. 2026 — The Dakota Incident Expands the DC Universe   With New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident #1, Dakota City's heroes are woven deeper into the mythology of the DC Universe. This anthology explores how Dakota's heroes and history intersect with the larger DC timeline expanding the legacy of Milestone while opening new doors for future storytelling. For longtime fans, it's a celebration of a revolutionary imprint. For new readers, it's a reminder that Dakota City remains one of the most important settings in comic book history. Thank you for Watching / Listening! We appreciate your support! The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie, Star Wars Celebration 2027, and the Future of the DCAU Meta Description: Moose and Game God discuss the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu movie, the announcement of Star Wars Celebration 2027, and why the DC Animated Universe continues to set the standard for superhero storytelling. The galaxy far, far away continues to expand, and Star Wars fans have plenty to be excited about. In Episode 515 of Podcast4SciFi, Moose and Game God dive into the latest news surrounding The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, discuss the significance of Star Wars Celebration 2027, and explore why the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) remains one of the most respected superhero franchises ever created. Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars, DC animation, or both, Episode 515 is packed with discussion, speculation, and plenty of geek culture goodness. The Mandalorian & Grogu: The Next Chapter Since their debut, Din Djarin and Grogu have become two of the most beloved characters in modern science fiction. What began as a streaming series phenomenon is now making the jump to the big screen with The Mandalorian & Grogu. During the episode, Moose and Game God discuss what this move means for Star Wars and whether the franchise is entering a new era of interconnected storytelling. Why Fans Are Excited The return of Din Djarin and Grogu in a theatrical adventure. The opportunity to experience Star Wars on the big screen again. Potential connections to future Star Wars projects and characters. The continued popularity of Grogu, one of the franchise’s most recognizable modern icons. The hosts also share their predictions about where the story could go and what surprises Lucasfilm may still have in store. Star Wars Celebration 2027: Looking Ahead One of the biggest pieces of Star Wars news is the announcement of Star Wars Celebration 2027. Celebration has become the premier event for Star Wars fans worldwide, bringing together creators, actors, collectors, cosplayers, and fans for major announcements and exclusive reveals. What Could Be Announced? While it’s still early, Moose and Game God discuss several possibilities: New Star Wars films and streaming projects. Updates on future Star Wars games. Expanded universe announcements. New collectibles, merchandise, and publishing initiatives. Surprises connected to The Mandalorian & Grogu. If history has taught Star Wars fans anything, it’s that Celebration often delivers unforgettable moments. Why the DCAU Still Matters The conversation then shifts from a galaxy far, far away to the world of superheroes. The DC Animated Universe (DCAU) continues to be regarded as one of the greatest examples of comic book storytelling. From classic animated series to newer projects, DC animation has consistently delivered compelling characters, emotional storytelling, and memorable performances. What Makes the DCAU Special? Strong character-driven stories. Faithful adaptations of iconic heroes and villains. Outstanding voice acting performances. Story arcs that appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers. Consistently high critical and audience ratings. The hosts discuss how modern animated projects continue to build on the foundation established by legendary series such as Batman, Superman, Justice League, and beyond. Star Wars vs. DC Animation: Different Strengths, Same Passion One of the most interesting discussions in Episode 515 centers around how these franchises approach storytelling. Star Wars excels at creating vast worlds filled with mythology, adventure, and wonder. Meanwhile, the DCAU focuses on character development and long-form storytelling that has influenced generations of fans. Rather than competing, both franchises showcase what makes science fiction and fantasy storytelling so enduring. Final Thoughts Episode 515 highlights why fans continue to be passionate about both Star Wars and DC animation. With The Mandalorian & Grogu on the horizon, Star Wars Celebration 2027 generating excitement, and the DCAU continuing to thrive, there’s never been a better time to be a sci-fi and superhero fan. If you enjoy discussions about movies, television, gaming, comics, and all things geek culture, be sure to listen to Episode 515 of Podcast4SciFi. For nearly three decades, Comic Book Resources was one of the most influential destinations in comics journalism. What began as a fan-driven website in the mid-1990s grew into a daily stop for comic book news, creator interviews, reviews, industry rumors, and commentary, helping shape the way fans followed the business and culture of comics online.Today we're talking with the man who started it all, Jonah Weiland. We'll go back to the early days of the internet, when comics fandom was finding its voice online, and discuss how CBR evolved from a labor of love into one of the most recognized comic book media brands in the world. We'll talk about the site's groundbreaking columns, its relationships with publishers and creators, the challenges of covering an ever-changing industry, and what it was like building a digital comics community long before social media existed. But Jonah's story doesn't end with CBR. He also spent time at DC Comics working in publicity, giving him a unique perspective from both sides of the comics media landscape. We'll discuss that chapter of his career, what he learned promoting some of the industry's biggest projects, and how the business of comics has changed over the years. These days Jonah has turned his attention to the stage as an actor and playwright. We'll talk about his creative journey beyond comics and his latest play, Coffee Date, currently being performed at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

DC Comics still doesn't get it. Pride Month is over, and the sooner they learn that, the better. A reporter for GB News (Britain's News Channel) tried to talk to the protestors outside of the Delaney Hall ICE facility and got a hefty dose of what we Yanks call "fatigue." The body cam footage in the murder of Henry Nowak, a British man stabbed to death by our greatest strength, has been released. Nowak died after he was stabbed multiple times and, instead of the police helping him, they put him in cuffs because racism or something. We'll see if the body cam footage sheds any new light on the subject. Poland and France. Unchecked illegal immigration and Islamification or tradition and closed borders. Which way?
