Interviews with industry experts to help make meaningful connections in the steel and engineering communities.
Ted Goldstein, structural engineer and inventor of Shuriken™ Structural Nut Keeper, joins Brad from Tokyo, Japan, to discuss how Shuriken makes HSS connections faster and easier. While HSS columns are the norm in Japan, welded splices pose a hurdle to adoption in the U.S. Shuriken allows for field-bolted column splices, simplifying the process and cutting costs. Special Guest: Ted Goldstein.
Brad and guest John Chatterton, Vice President of Engineering Technologies for Zekelman Industries, provide an update on Atlas Tube’s new straight-seam ERW tube mill currently being constructed in Blytheville, Arkansas. The new mill will be rolling jumbo HSS (https://www.atlastube.com/products/jumbo-hss/) in larger sizes than previously available, and it’s all made in America for fast delivery. Special Guest: John Chatterton.
Brad is joined by Jim Moody and Jay Bawan of GIZA Steel, a leader in structural steel connection design software. At GIZA, they’re building an ever-expanding library of connection designs to help engineers be more efficient. Brad gets all the details on the software, HSS connections and what the future holds for Giza Steel. Special Guests: Jay Bawan and Jim Moody.
Brad and guest Ryan Smith, director of SidePlate Systems (https://www.sideplate.com/), chronicle the history of SidePlate and how they came to work with Atlas Tube. The connections technology company has evolved and improved the way we design steel moment connections, making structures stronger and safer. Learn about their latest connection which they are unveiling at NASCC: The Virtual Steel Conference (https://www.aisc.org/nascc). Special Guest: Ryan Smith.
