Crime Lab, with Youth Guidance's Becoming a Man (BAM), Boston's Match Education, and the Chicago Public Schools, studies a two-pronged approach to improving the lives of Chicago youth.

The Crime Lab will evaluate the program’s effectiveness in reducing youth involvement in shootings and their engagement in school. The data will determine costs and the benefits of the program and provide guidance in designing future programs. The Crime Lab, Chicago Community Trust, Youth Guidance, and the City of Chicago met in early April to kick-off One Summer Chicago PLUS. A new study conducted at the University of Chicago Crime Lab in coordination with nonprofits Youth Guidance and World Sport Chicago and local Chicago Public Schools provides new evidence that B.A.M. (Becoming a Man), a program of group counseling and sports activities, significantly reduces violent crime arrests among participating students. In light of this success, Harper High School announces its implementation of the B.A.M. program in partnership with the Crime Lab.
