Rob Leach, known as @wildlifenurserob on Instagram, is one of the most humble human beings I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. But, while he doesn't go on about all the impacts he's made and continues to make around the world, he leaves a wake of compassion, collaboration, and education wherever he goes. His current work as a manager with Vets Beyond Borders has him collaborating with global teams such as the World Health Organization, the UN Food and Agricultural Org, communities, individuals, and governments all aimed at eliminating human deaths from Rabies by 2030. And, that's just one of the things Rob has on his plate. Tune in to learn more about Rob and all the things he's doing to make the world a better place.
In this episode, we discuss the recent loss of several veterinary professionals and the work that Not One More Vet (NOMV) is doing to help change the landscape of mental and emotional wellbeing within the profession, some of the reasons for burnout, and how we're coping with stress as vet students. If LL Cool J's iconic track "Don't Call it a Comeback" wasn't copyrighted, it absolutely would have been the soundtrack for this first episode in 2021 after a long hiatus. We're gonna call it an extremely productive sabbatical that ended up landing me, and the amazing new co-host of the show, Anne, in a seat at the inaugural University of Arizona's College of Veterinary Medicine. Hang out with us as we talk about our experiences as first-year, vet students (during the chaos that was 2020), what we have ahead for our second semester, and life in general. Stoked to be back!
This is not at all a predictable episode. While she might be IG famous for her no BS posts and interesting cases she and her husband treat in their traveling orthopedic practice, she also has many other sides to her that make her an amazing human. She was brave enough to sit down with me to have a candid conversation and hit the record button. The wiiiiiiide spectrum of topics is nothing short of enlightening, funny, and full of even more reasons that make her easy to love. Follow Nicole on IG @veterinarytechnicians

Her posts are the type of genuine transparency that make us feel like she's the friend we'd want to have coffee with on a Sunday morning to talk about life. Shelby, aka @traveling_dogtor, gets candid about how she found her way back to her calling for veterinary medicine, the tragedy that helped shape her, bucket lists, and how she finds balance on and off her mat as a yoga instructor. If you're not already following her journey as a second year vet student and avid traveler, make sure you check out her blog and instagram and give her a follow! If you already follow Jenn of @Mutts_and_Guts on Instagram, you already know she brings us daily posts that leave us laughing, cringing, thinking, and holding our breath for more...all at the same time. Her photos and captions teach us and her humor make us wish we could all be that witty and wise while extracting foreign objects and expressing anal glands. In this episode we dive into her 15 year career as a vet tech, her nearly 60k instagram stalkers (I'm one of them), how her kids thought she was being cat-fished in the DM's, the time she had to explain male ejaculation to a client and the time she squirted the most foul of foulness into someones eye...and of course the serious stuff too, like the current state of veterinary technology as a profession, the "nurse" initiative and lots more. She's hilarious and wise...like the owl from those tootsie pop commercials... Too young to remember those? Stick around young'un. Let these old ladies teach ya a thing or two.
