Myth America | Episode Four | On a Birthday! Today (March 26) is mythologist Joseph Campbell's birthday. It's also my birthday! I thought I'd share a musing on the nature of birthdays - mythically, imaginally, metaphorically. On mid life, on how we invent and re-invent ourselves, and we see ourselves and are seen. With poems by the inimitable Mary Oliver, Minnesota Poet Laureate Joyce Sutphen, and former American Poet Laureate Stanley Kunitz. I recorded this episode of Myth America before the COVID pandemic became a part of our lives - hence my mention of a large group gathering I'd attended. For me, remembering this gathering, and the gatherings of many birthdays, is bittersweet this year as I wait for the second dose of the COVID vaccine, and, like most of the world, for the moment that we can all gather again without concern. Every year, my favorite ritual on my birthday is to listen to Ralph Vaughn Williams' The Lark Ascending. Here's the London Philharmic performing it. Or find a piece of music you adore to celebrate your innate 'you-ness.' As always, you can catch this episode here on Myth America (just click the link at the top of this post), via the Joseph Campbell Foundation's MythMythMaker℠ Podcast Network, or on your favorite podcast network. Today March 20th 2021 is double blessed!! Not only is it SPRING in the Northern Hemisphere, it is International Astrology Day!Did you know that Benjamin Franklin was an astrologer? Yes!  AND he didn't hide it either!  I simply love that astrology and those that master reading the stars, are honored by having their own special day. And what a perfect day it is- with the Sun entering the first sign of the zodiac~ ARIES. In this episode I honor Astrology, and my teachers- some who I have studied from by their books, and some that I've known personally.   I have the highest respect for those that tread this path with courage and integrity.  Especially, my own personal astrologer- Patricia St. James, who has crossed over to astral plane nine.  Patricia  BELIEVED in me, nurtured  and guided my own growth as an astrologer and a person.  I am forever grateful for her insights and loving care. As we explore this SPRING energy, I suggest we look at the placement of MARS throughout the year. Using Mars to make a plan for not just this season, but a master plan for all of 2021. In some cultures when the Sun enters Aries, they consider it the NEW YEAR.  In truth, we can make every day a new year, as we are only promised TODAY. Thanks for listening! If you would like to have a personal reading, check out my astrological website for details:http://www.kitchensari.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/ParkerMcP)

Let’s kick off the weekend with this fly-on-the-wall “Pop Up Podcast” featuring a private filmed, streaming, virtual “ZOOM IN” press conference with Elizabeth Freund, Ringo, Modern Drummer, and a few select friends. Thank you, Beautiful Media and Ringo, for allowing us to post! Today March 19, 2021, Ringo releases his EP titled Zoom In, which features five songs, all of which were recorded at Starr’s home studio between April-October 2020. Starr collaborated with songwriters and producers, and an ever-widening group of musicians playing on the songs, some socially distanced and joining him safely in his studio, always exercising an abundance of caution, and others working on their parts remotely. “It just unfolds,” Ringo said of the recording process, “when I start making a record here in LA at home.” Joining Starr were musicians Nathan East (bass), Steve Lukather (guitar), Bruce Sugar (synth guitar), Benmont Tench (piano), and Jim Cox (string arrangements and synth) Dave Grohl, Ben Harper and Jenny Lewis also joined Starr among others, and all contributed to the first single, Here’s To The Nights. As Ringo recalled, “Diane Warren sent me the song and I loved the sentiment of it. She sent it in a chord I like to call F demented, it was very high, so Benmont Tench transposed it into a key human beings can actually sing - that's how we started with that song. We wanted to add a lot of voices singing on the chorus and so she asked her friends and I asked mine, and not only did we get a lot of people singing on the record, we had a lot of fun, which is how I think it should be, and I got to know a few new friends.” The title track, “Zoom In, Zoom Out,” was penned by Jeff Silbar and features the Doors Robbie Krieger on guitar. “I wanted to call this ‘Zoom In,’ which I think is great for this day and age. For this record, I wanted to get people I hadn't worked with before, so for this track we invited Robby Krieger.” Sam Hollander wrote and produced “Teach Me To Tango,” sending Ringo a nearly completed track onto which Ringo added vocals and, one drum fill. “I called Sam because I had so much fun with him on my last CD. What was great was when I was doing my vocals (Sam lives in New York so I did my part in my home studio here in LA), was there was one part of it and I felt there has got to be a drum fill there! So the credits now read ‘Ringo vocals and 1 drum fill’” (Blair Sinta lays down the drum track) Image Ringo co-wrote “Waiting For The Tide to Turn” with his engineer Bruce Sugar, adding Tony Chen and his extensive reggae roots; “This was something my engineer Bruce Sugar started, but it didn't have a lot of words, so we wrote it together. I did my version of reggae and what was great was we had Tony Chen, who played with Bob Marley and lives here in LA, come over and play on it. He said, ‘hey Mon, that you on drums mon?’ and I said yes, and he said ‘great drums mon, very reggae!’ and my heart swelled! It was so great coming from him!” With four tracks completed, Ringo thought the EP was done. That is until Steve Lukather came over, with his friend and Toto band mate Joseph Williams, as Ringo tells the story: “We had 4 tracks - and then Lukather came over and brought this semi produced track, ‘Not Enough Love In the World’. The sentiment of it - not enough peace in the world, not enough love - I could not not do it - I had to do this track. So I put the vocals on, the drums on, Steve played a bit more guitar, Joe added some harmonies, and it all came together. In addition to making new music during the pandemic, Ringo also completed and released a new limited-edition retrospective hardcover book titled “RINGO ROCKS: 30 YEARS OF THE ALL STARRS 1989-2019.”Proceeds will benefit The Lotus Foundation. Ringo also revealed news about his next All Starr tour with dates in 2022. “They’ll be no touring this year, “as Ringo told fans...

Today – March 8 – is International Women’s Day. And to celebrate, on today ‘s Masters of the Risk Universe episode, I am going to explore the life and times of three queens of rock and roll: Debbie Harry, Patti Smith and Pat Benatar.Growing up as a kid in Australia, these three women were the three I dreamed of being when I grew up. Not necessarily as a singer or a musician. I am a trained musician, but I am no singer. When I say I dreamed of being them, I more refer to me somehow being able to mimic their self-assuredness. Embrace their willingness to step outside the boundaries. Somehow become as courageous as them when confronting and taming the unknown. For a young mixed race kid in Australia in the 1970s and 1980s, and that was a hard time, let me tell you. As a mixed race kid who didn’t really know her place, and always felt out of place. These three women encouraged me to dream and to dream big. So, today, a very personal exploration of three masters of everything. This won’t be the usual Risktory episode, heavy on facts, with a little opinion mixed in to bring it all together. This will be a story of how these three women influenced me as a woman, and how their mastery of the unknown, influences me – to this day – as a risk practitioner. The Risktory Podcast is created, written, hosted and produced by Jacinthe A Galpin. All rights reserved.Bibliographyhttps://faroutmagazine.co.uk/debbie-harry-interview-patti-smih-andy-warhol/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patti_Smith#Feminism_and_women_in_musichttps://www.azquotes.com/author/6330-Debbie_Harryhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Benatarhttps://www.metrowestdailynews.com/entertainmentlife/20190421/why-heck-isnt-pat-benatar-in-rock-amp-roll-hall-of-fameSeven Inch Recordshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_%28music%29Fisher Price Record Playerhttps://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Sesame_Street_record_player_(Fisher-Price)Song LinksThe Tide Is High - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htRwf9zNGlICall Me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StKVS0eI85IHeart of Glass - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGU_4-5RaxUDancing Barefoot - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z9G8BdnFGsBecause The Night - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_BcivBprM0Smells like Teen Spirit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_ciiCyxOJAHit with me with your best - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRD80XRMT7sLove is a battlefield - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGVZOLV9SPoWe belong - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxZInIyOBXkInvincible - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A4xBp2rizQ

In Episode #23 of the Mindful Life Podcast. I  talk about the confronting subject of Family Violence. Today March 8th2019 is International Womens Day.International Women's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, economic or political. On this day I have chosen to use my platform as a woman and as a mental health worker, to put the spotlight on the confronting issue of Family violence and more specifically men’s violence against women. I make no apologies for figuratively raining on todays International Womens Day parade. With more than one woman losing her life every week to male violence, in this so called lucky country, we need to shine that spotlight brightly and talk and keep talking about this very important issue. Today I share my insights and observations on this difficult and often controversial subject. A topic that makes so many uncomfortable. With around a quarter of my clients at any one time being a family violence referral, sometimes perpetrators and sometimes victims, I have learnt a lot and I have got a lot to say. And I hope after listening to my insights, you too will be given some food for thought, which may in turn, mobilise you to speak up and where you can, work to a create a safe and independent future for not only our daughters but for all future generations.   If for any reason, you have found the content of todays podcast triggering or distressing in any way please consider accessing some professional support (Aust only);    **Telephone Counselling support    Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636  Lifeline 131114 **Family Violence Support  1800RESPECT 1800 737 732 Mensline 1300 789978   You can find The Mindful Life Podcast on Facebook and Instagram under the handle Mindful Life Podcast. Mr. Media Interviews by Bob Andelman

Today's Guest: Jon Bon Jovi, singer, Bon Jovi   Bon Jovi, featuring Jon Bon Jovi, center Today--March 2--is singer Jon Bon Jovi's birthday. I've been intent on publishing my January 19, 1984, phone interview with him for a long, long time, but I just cannot locate the original print version of the story to accompany it, so today I am throwing up my hands and we'll just go with the audio. At the time of this interview, Bon Jovi was a hard-working, fast-rising Jersey Shore band that made itself media accessible and media friendly. The guys frequently played baseball against local radio station DJs as they toured the country, generating good feelings and lots of extra spins of their debut record. JON BON JOVI podcast excerpt: "My mom is a florist; my dad is a hairdresser. They always said, 'Do whatever makes you happy.' They knew I wanted this; there was a lot of of support." I remember being struck by how nice Jon was in this interview and how surprised I was to discover his hometown was Sayreville, NJ. I grew up a short drive away in North Brunswick. He asked if I know any Bongiovis in North Brunswick--particularly Joe and Nanette. He also mentioned time spent at the then Boy Scouts of America Museum in my hometown. One other note about this interview: for years I carried around boxes and boxes of rock star interviews I conducted in the mid-1980s. Many, recorded on high-end brand name cassette tape, failed to hold up to the ravages of time and Florida weather. The ones recorded on cheap tape--Hello, Realistic!--seemed to do better. No one knew then there would one day be an Internet were all such things would have a second life. JON BON JOVI podcast excerpt: "Ron Diaz at (Tampa Bay radio station) YNF was the biggest supporter before I ever had a record deal." Anyway, two friends inspired me to recover this and dozens of other lost interviews. First was my friend Dean Hendrix, himself a musician. Second--particularly for  this Jon Bon Jovi interview--was my neighbor, Lori Crotts. One day, I was visiting with Lori about some school matter and I saw some Bon Jovi memorabilia on her desk, including a photo of her and Jon, I believe. Turns out, she became a late fan of the band and had been catching up, attending as many of their concerts as possible, meeting the boys in the band backstage several times. This happily married, mother of three, and beloved pillar of the community, worked hard and, as her reward, treated herself to Bon Jovi concerts whenever possible. I told Lori about this interview and offered to find it for her. I took too long, as it turned out. Unfortunately, soon thereafter, Lori was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and never got to hear this restored conversation. She died on January  31, 2013. (Read more about Lori here.) That's why, I'm dedicating this to a fine woman and the biggest Bon Jovi fan I've ever known.
