    Is Adoption Really Plan B?

Kelley sits down with Desiree White (adoptive mom, Director of Community Health Care's Foster Adoption Clinic, Tacoma WA) to talk about a common statement in our world and it goes something like this: "Adoption is a beautiful Plan B." As if maybe to say, "After everything else you've tried in your pursuit of having a family has failed, try adoption." Certainly, adoption can be a great way to grow family, but it proposes an ethical dilemma which needs to be considered. Everyone who follows Jesus has a role in caring for orphans, widows, and the defenseless as an avenue to proclaim His gospel. But knowing your role and how to play it can be unknown territory. And for pastors and church leaders, the effort it takes to lift another ministry off the ground can be exhausting. So what's the solution? There are probably a few, but ECHO's Ambassador Program makes it easy for churches of any size, budget, and volunteer capacity to make a significant and meaningful impact on their community today. Racial Disparity in Foster Care

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 2, 2020 65:30

In this episode we talk with Dr. Bryce Johnson, an administrator with Hampton City Schools in Hampton, VA, Edwin and Arial Jones, pastors at The Bridge Church and advocates for racial reconciliation in the Coastal Virginia area, and Aaron and Monique Ransom, veteran foster parents and fellow podcasters at the Fostering Hope Podcast. When looking at census documents for our nation's foster care system, there is one glaring piece of data that is impossible to overlook: Black children are over-represented and Black foster parents are under-represented.  Black individuals in America comprise approximately 15% of the entire population, yet in foster care, more than 50% of the children are Black. There are significant contributors to this disparity: systemic problems, educational, training, and informational gaps, fatherlessness, criminal rehabilitation practices, etc. And as varied as the causes, a variety of approaches is needed to help re-balance the ratio to more accurately reflect society.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wearetheecho/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wearetheecho/support
