Bob is back and we start with a song. Tyler Kennedy talks about his daughter's dance show. Would the Oilers actually trade McDavid? What would the Pens have to offer? Has Edmonton failed him? Where would be his best landing spot? Tyler Kennedy sticks around to discuss Herb Brooks, his thoughts on bringing in Nick Bonino and the pressure he'll face, what his first big move would be this offseason. Lou Christie has passed away. Is tonight the time for TJ McConnell to shine? Why does the WNBA continue to allow Caitlin Clark to get roughed up? It seems like most of the league is jealous. The Pirates lineup from last night that never took the field was hideous. It's a 6-pack - Zach Greinke had a career SLG better than the Pirates team this year, Jack Suwinski is back, why are we not getting Skubal vs Skenes, do we owe Rodgers an apology, Shadeur Sanders was caught speeding. Joe and Pomp weigh in on the Callas US Open controversy. Will McDavid actually want to be traded? Could it turn out like LeBron the first time in Cleveland? What could Edmonton do? What are the NY Rangers doing to do with their draft pick, Beanie Bishop says there will be new calls on defense, the Pirates lineup is bad again today. Joe and Pomp both freak out. Jeff Hathhorn joins to discuss his takeaways from the US Open, Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark's destruction. "I would say my books are about three quarters research and sort of mining my research, and then one quarter writing," says Hampton Sides, author of several New York Times bestselling works of narrative history, including his latest, now in paperback, The Wide Wide Sea. It's published by Doubleday. So Hampton was great. There was a moment halfway through where my dogs got to barking, then howling, which made me give them a stern talkin' to. I think I edited that out. I should have. Hope I did. I can tolerate a little barking in the background, but the howling is obnoxious. Hampton got a laugh out of all of it … He's the author of eight books including In the Kingdom of Ice, Hellhound on his Trail, and Ghost Soldiers. Here we talk about: How he found his lane of book writing Of transitioning from a journalist to a popular historian Finding the frame Writing in coffee shops Running to the computer in the middle of the night And an April Fool's Day joke gone horribly wrongLearn more about Hampton at hamptonsides.com and follow him on the gram @hamptonsidesauthor.Order The Front RunnerNewsletter: Rage Against the AlgorithmWelcome to Pitch ClubShow notes: brendanomeara.com

Send us a textAs Mercyhurst University makes its ambitious leap into NCAA Division I men's lacrosse, one name to watch between the pipes is sophomore goalie Jaret Jawor.A native of Lockport, Illinois, Jawor played his high school lacrosse at Wheaton Academy, where he developed into a strong and athletic netminder. Now standing at 6-foot-3, Jawor brings size, reach, and a calming presence to the crease—traits that are quickly turning heads in his second collegiate season.Jawor made his college debut in 2024, seeing time in six games as a freshman. He made 21 saves while posting a 6.95 goals-against average and an impressive .618 save percentage, finishing the season with a 1–0 record. His early showings hinted at potential, and in 2025, that potential has started to materialize. This season, Jawor has stepped into a more active role, appearing in five games and making one start. Across 143 minutes of action, he's registered:38 saves36 goals against15.06 GAA.514 save percentage1–1 overall recordBut the numbers only tell part of the story. In NEC conference play, Jawor has stepped up under pressure, delivering a .571 save percentage across two appearances—highlighted by a standout 19-save performance against Robert Morris. Though the Lakers didn't secure the win, Jawor's poise and shot-stopping ability stood out in a hard-fought matchup. The 2025 season is a landmark one for Mercyhurst. After years of dominance at the Division II level, the Lakers have entered the Division I stage with a youthful roster, a new head coach in Trey Keeley, and something to prove. While postseason eligibility will have to wait, performances from players like Jawor have helped Mercyhurst secure key wins—most notably a dominant 22–6 victory over Hampton. As Mercyhurst builds its foundation in Division I, Jaret Jawor is emerging as a core piece of that future. With two years of eligibility left and a growing confidence in the cage, expect Jawor to continue evolving into one of the NEC's top goaltenders.Keep your eye on No. 12—he's just getting started. Enjoy my conversation with future star Jaret Jawor.Support the show

Wednesday, June 11 - Host and American Family Farmer, Doug Stephan www.eastleighfarm.com shares the news affecting small farmers in America, including a focus on new research from Purdue University suggesting the surge of media coverage had an effect on the price people are paying for eggs. Plus, strong supply fundamentals are pushing cattle and beef prices higher, 70 years after an aerial war against the screwworm — we're hearing about them again. Then, Doug introduces us to Shelby Hampton-Watson, owner of Robin Hill Farm and Vineyards in Brandywine, MD. Robin Hill Farm and Vineyards is a family owned farm going back four generations, and is one of the first agri-tourism farms in the 1970s in south Maryland. Shelby went to college for animal science before returning to the family farm and, over the years, diversified the farm to include the vineyards, winery and wedding venue. They are an estate winery, meaning they are a farm-winery and 100% of what they use is produced by them — planted, taken care of, harvested, processed and bottled, and the tasting room are all on the property. Learn more about Robin Hill Farm and Vineyards at https://www.robinhillfarmandvineyards.com.Additionally, Shelby has several side gigs as an author, speaker, and rural business strategist. She writes for several agricultural publications, and one of the editorial columns she recently wrote for American Agriculturist is about something she came across during her time as an Animal Science Major in college was PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) and it's one of the primary ingredients in hormone replacement therapy for women. It's a topic that recently came back into Shelby's consciousness when looking for another topic to write about and decided to share the information with others. You can read the article on https://www.farmprogress.com/commentary/horses-and-hormones-the-surprising-link-between-farmers-mares-and-menopause-treatment.Another venture Shelby has is The Farmed Life (thefarmedlife.org) which empowers women through resources and support to grow; and her book Grace, Grit & Lipstick: Wit & Wisdom for the Modern Female Farmer & her Farm-Curious Friends featuring stories from women in agriculture with their different businesses like entrepreneurs, solarpreneurs, small family farms, backyard and hobby farmers, and anyone linked to the farm-to-table and all-natural-ingredient movements.Lastly, in Doug's opinion segment of today's episode, he discusses the Coalition For A Prosperous America (CPA) that keeps telling us about agriculture and questions a misrepresentation of the agricultural world in America, and why it's important to get your agricultural news from actual agricultural news sources and not mainstream media.

Her deconstruction paved the way for finding humor as both a vocation and a tool for healing. Also a survivor of Scott's Introduction to Literature class, Katie has found a life outside of Christianity that has been so much fuller and, let's face it, funnier, than life inside evangelical culture. In this episode, host Vincent Midgard is joined by author, podcaster, and epidemiologist Viggy Parr Hampton to discuss her haunting new novel The Rotting Room. Together, they explore the disturbing intersection of religious ritual, bodily decay, and psychological trauma in a cloistered convent where silence reigns and something sinister festers beneath the surface.Viggy shares how her background in epidemiology shaped her fascination with disease and body horror, the challenges of writing a protagonist trapped in denial, and why silence can be the loudest form of tension. She also opens up about the surprising overlaps between science and storytelling, balancing creativity with parenting, and her multimedia projects like the Horror, Humor, Hunger podcast and Tag Team Tales of Terror on Dread Pop Magazine's YouTube channel.Whether you're a horror fan, a writer, or just curious how someone can juggle motherhood, medicine, and monsters—this episode will leave you both disturbed and inspired.Website: viggyhampton.comAmazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Viggy-Parr-Hampton/author/B082DC79CG?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=trueInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/viggyparrhampton/?hl=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Author-Viggy-Parr-Hampton/61555649969988/?_rdrTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@viggyparrhampton

A gripping chronicle of the relentless fight for Black educational freedom--and the bold strategies to protect, nourish, and empower Black minds. The Battle for the Black Mind (Legacy Lit, 2025) is an explosive historical account of the struggle for educational justice in America. Drawing on over a decade of archival research, personal reflection, and keen sociological insight, this book traces a century of segregated schooling, examining how early efforts to control Black minds through education systems has laid the foundation for the systemic inequities we still live with today. NAACP Image Award-winning author Dr. Karida L. Brown, takes readers from the rural South to the bustling cities of the North and connects the dots between the experiences of Black students and educators across the nation. From the founding of early Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), such as Hampton, Atlanta, and Tuskegee University, to the rise of the Black freedom struggle, The Battle for the Black Mind weaves together the stories of pioneering Black leaders and the institutions they built to educate future generations. Far from dwelling solely on oppression, this book offers powerful insight into how Black people have always fought to create environments where Black minds could thrive. Brown concludes with an urgent and empowering call to action, equipping everyday Americans with practical steps--both big and small--to ensure that Black minds can continue to flourish, even as our education system itself comes under attack. Grounded in both historical rigor and astute social commentary, The Battle for the Black Mind speaks directly to today's national fight over the American classroom, making it clear that the battle for Black minds is far from over. This book will resonate deeply if one understands the transformative power of education and is invested in understanding how education has always played a role in shaping the moral conscience of America.
