Why We Call God Father – The Roman Catechism – Episode 4

Today in The Catechism Series, we continue through the opening article of the Creed: “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.” Fr. David Sherry explains what Catholics mean when they profess belief in God, not merely as a conclusion of reason, but as our first beginning and last end. We'll also look at how God's existence can be known, why we call Him Father, what it means that He is almighty, and how creation itself points us back to Him. The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. Although the traditional Latin Mass is the most visible and public expression of the work of the Society, we are committed to defending Catholic Tradition in its entirety: all of Catholic doctrine and morals as the Church has always defended them. What people need is the Catholic Faith, without compromise, with all the truth and beauty which accompanies it. https://sspx.org

In the movie industry, they talk about the “suspension of disbelief.” It’s all make- believe, right? But they try to make the costumes, and the special effects, and the acting so convincing that it suspends our disbelief. They hope we forget it’s fake. Or fiction, if you prefer. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out that some people sort of act their way through life. They try to suspend our disbelief about how they’re really living. We’ll see that’s a fruitless pursuit. — Become a Harvest Partner today and join us in knowing God and making Him known through media and large-scale evangelism, our mission of over 30 years. I have enough RAW files in my catalogue to keep myself artistically busy and productive for the rest of my life. I just need to mine deeper into what I already have. That will not, however, prevent me from heading out and capturing more. That's because the core of artmaking is exploring life, exploring the world, exploring our responses to experience. In this episode of the Grad School Femtoring podcast, I share three truths I wish I understood before starting graduate school. For first-generation, BIPOC, neurodivergent, and other students navigating unfamiliar academic spaces, graduate school can feel like entering a cultural system with its own language, expectations, hierarchies, and unwritten rules. I reflect on my experience of feeling behind and explain why struggling to understand the hidden curriculum does not mean you do not belong. I also explore how productivity culture can tie your sense of worth to your output and why mentorship, femtorship, and community care are essential parts of a sustainable graduate school experience. Through three reflection prompts, I invite you to name the expectations affecting your sense of belonging, identify where you may be overworking to prove yourself, and consider who you can reach out to for support. In this episode, you will learn: Why graduate school functions as a cultural system with unwritten rules beyond academic requirements. How unclear expectations, departmental politics, and unstructured time can affect your sense of belonging. How doing less, resting more, and setting boundaries can protect your wellbeing. Why mentorship, femtorship, and community care are essential to navigating graduate school. Three reflection questions to help you seek clarity, reduce overwork, and identify support. This week on Ron's Amazing Stories, we meet Michael Waring, better known as The Falcon. But exactly who was The Falcon? That question turns out to be a little more complicated than you might expect. The character had a tangled history that stretched from novels to movies, radio, and television. Even Michael Waring himself changed considerably during the run of the radio series, evolving from a private detective into an international intelligence agent. Our double feature demonstrates that journey with two stories broadcast nearly seven years apart. In This Episode Meet Michael Waring and discover the surprisingly complicated history of The Falcon. Learn how two different fictional detectives became associated with the Falcon name. Hear Michael Waring during his earlier years as a private detective. Travel overseas with a very different Falcon working for Army Intelligence. Explore how the changing world of the 1940s and 1950s helped reshape the series. Featured Stories Murder Is a Family Affair — November 27, 1945 Michael Waring is still working as a private detective when he and Nancy face a grim situation. A friend has been sentenced to death, and there appears to be nothing Michael can do to save him. Before the sentence is carried out, Michael promises to look after the man's younger brother. Keeping that promise soon draws The Falcon into one of his most difficult cases, involving murder, family loyalty, and the consequences of choices already made. Rolling Stones — August 10, 1952 Nearly seven years later, Michael Waring has left his private detective days behind. Now working for Army Intelligence, The Falcon travels overseas on a mission to locate wanted war criminal Mario Tessely. When a friend is killed, the assignment becomes personal. Michael finds himself caught in an international mystery filled with deception, Cold War intrigue, and hints of Communist activity. You've been told to "just be more confident." But confidence isn't something you either have or you don't. It's a muscle, and it gets built before the moment demands it.In this episode, Tiffany sits down with Brian Kavicky, sales and leadership coach at Lushin and her mentor of fifteen years, to work through the questions women carry into every room but rarely say out loud: What do you do when you freeze mid-sentence? When someone takes credit for your idea? When you know you should speak up but can't make yourself do it? When the salary offer comes in low and you don't know if you're allowed to push back?Brian breaks down the difference between feedback and criticism — one gives you something to fix; the other can't. He explains why ambition shows up in behavior while self-promotion shows up in posture, and why almost nobody is actually self-promoting even though almost everybody is worried about it. He also names the single behavior behind most of the gender pay gap: women accept the first offer. Men don't.You'll walk away knowing how to:Tell real feedback from criticism, and what to do with eachSpeak up when your idea gets credited to someone elseState your accomplishments as fact without it feeling like braggingUse "I am" statements to rewire how you show up under pressureAsk for more money without riskThis is not a conversation about being more polished. Winging It On Location – Days 4-6-Helsinki: Our First Sauna, Trendy Coffees and Dancing On The StreetIn this on-location episode of Winging It, I continue the Estonia-to-Finland road trip and spend three packed days exploring Helsinki — a city that quickly became one of my favourite capital cities in Europe. From the ferry across the Gulf of Finland to trendy speciality coffee shops, a free walking tour, and our first proper Finnish sauna experience, this episode captures the atmosphere of Helsinki in real time. I share practical travel tips, food recommendations, transport advice, and the honest reactions that make these live-location episodes feel like you're travelling alongside us.We start with the Viking Line ferry from Tallinn, settle into central Helsinki, and dive straight into the city's café culture. After a crash course in Finnish history on a free walking tour, the trip becomes increasingly local: a Saturday morning ParkRun, doing laundry in a quirky neighbourhood café, and then the highlight of the weekend — a two-hour waterfront sauna session at Löyly. The evening turns into an unexpected night out filled with live music, dancing in a closed-off bar street, and one very unusual encounter involving a stranger with a glass of wine.On the final day, we slow things down with outstanding coffee and brunch before taking the ferry to Suomenlinna, Helsinki's UNESCO-listed sea fortress, for coastal views, cannons, history, and gelato by the water. If you're planning a Helsinki weekend trip, looking for sauna recommendations, or want a mix of food, coffee, nightlife, and history, this episode is packed with ideas and real-world travel insights.Places & Activities MentionedViking Line ferry from Tallinn to HelsinkiHotel Finn (central Helsinki)La Torrefazione specialty coffee caféGreen Cap Tours free walking tourHelsinki Central Library OodiRestaurant Khao Tip (Thai food)Tokoinranta ParkRunCafé Tin Tin Tango (laundry + café stop)Löyly waterfront saunaPute's Bar & PizzaMummotunneli nightlife areaSt George's CaféLazy Fox brunchFerry to SuomenlinnaEsplanadi ParkHelsinki CathedralSenate SquareSupport Winging It Travel PodcastIf you enjoyed this episode:⭐ Leave a 5-star rating or review on your podcast app☕ Support the show at buymeacoffee.com/wingingit

Asthma is often treated like a lung problem. The tighter the chest, the more inflamed the airway, the worse the flare-up, the answer has usually been to reach for medications designed to calm the lungs directly. But what if, for some patients, the real driver is not only in the lungs at all?For years, clinicians have recognized that patients with both obesity and asthma often experience a more difficult form of the disease. Their symptoms are more severe. Their flare-ups are more frequent. Their quality of life is lower. And frustratingly, many do not respond as well to the standard asthma therapies we rely on, including inhaled steroids. That is because obesity-related asthma is not simply “asthma plus extra weight.” It appears to be a distinct phenotype shaped by metabolic dysfunction, systemic inflammation, insulin resistance, immune reprogramming, and the mechanical effects of excess weight on lung function. In other words, for many patients, asthma may not be just a disease of the airways. It may be a whole-body inflammatory condition showing up in the lungs. That shift in thinking is why the growing research around GLP-1 receptor agonists is so compelling. These medications, originally developed for type 2 diabetes and now widely known for their role in weight management, may be doing far more than changing blood sugar or body weight. Emerging research suggests they may influence airway inflammation, immune signaling, airway smooth muscle function, and asthma exacerbation risk, sometimes even before major weight loss occurs. To explore what this could mean for the future of asthma care, Dr. Atoosa Kourosh, a board-certified allergist, immunologist, and pediatrician with more than two decades of clinical experience, returns to the show. She is the founder of Holistic Allergy and Immunology and chair of the Integrative Medicine Committee at the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, where she brings together conventional medicine, lifestyle medicine, metabolic health, and integrative care.Together, we explore:Why obesity-related asthma is not just “regular asthma in a heavier body,” but a distinct phenotype with different biology, different inflammation, and often a different response to treatmentHow metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance, adipokines, immune reprogramming, and systemic inflammation can all shape what happens in the lungsWhy standard asthma therapies may miss the mark for patients whose disease is driven less by classic allergic inflammation and more by metabolic inflammationWhat emerging research suggests about GLP-1 receptor agonists and their potential effects on airway inflammation, airway smooth muscle, bronchodilation, and asthma exacerbationsWhy some patients may see asthma improvement before significant weight loss, suggesting these medications may be acting on more than the scaleWhat real-world data can and cannot tell us about GLP-1 medications, asthma attacks, and patients with both asthma and type 2 diabetesWhy randomized controlled trials are still needed before GLP-1s can be considered a definitive asthma treatmentWhat clinicians and families should consider before using GLP-1 medications in adolescents, including growth, muscle loss, bone health, mental health, activity levels, and the need for careful testing and monitoringWhy these medications should be viewed as one tool in a broader lifestyle and integrative medicine toolkit, not a quick fix or a substitute for nutrition, movement, sleep, stress regulation, and anti-inflammatory livingHow this research could change the way we classify asthma in the future, moving from a lung-only model to a more metabolic, systems-based model of chronic inflammatory diseaseIf you are a clinician treating difficult-to-control asthma, a patient living with asthma and metabolic dysfunction, or someone trying to understand why chronic disease rarely fits into one neat category, this conversation will challenge you to look beyond the lungs and consider the whole body story.About the GuestDr. Atoosa Kourosh, MD, MPH, RYT, is a physician, board-certified in pediatrics, Allergy & immunology, and public health. Romans 1:3: Concerning His Son What is the gospel ultimately about? Romans 1:3 gives us Paul's answer with remarkable clarity: the gospel is “concerning his Son.” The gospel is not first about us. It is not centered on our experiences, our improvement, our religious performance, or our felt needs. The gospel is the good news of what God has done through His Son, Jesus Christ. “Concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh.” Romans 1:3 The Gospel Concerns God's Son Paul has already told us that he was set apart for the gospel of God and that this gospel was promised beforehand through the prophets in the Holy Scriptures. Now he tells us who this gospel concerns: Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The gospel is not advice about how to improve ourselves. Advice tells us what we should do. The gospel announces what God has already done in and through Jesus Christ. We do not need another self-help plan, moral improvement program, or religious system. We need a Savior. The gospel points us away from ourselves and directs us to Christ. Jesus Is the Eternal Son of God Jesus is not merely a prophet, moral teacher, religious example, or spiritual guide. He is the eternal Son of God. The Son did not begin to exist in Bethlehem. He did not become divine at His baptism or after His resurrection. Jesus Christ is eternally the Son of God, sharing the same divine nature as the Father. This matters because only God can save. A created Savior cannot bear the full weight of divine judgment or provide the salvation sinners desperately need. Our confidence rests in the eternal Son of God who came into the world to save sinners. Jesus Is the Promised Son of David Paul also tells us that Jesus was descended from David according to the flesh. This connects the gospel directly to the promises God made throughout the Old Testament. God promised that a descendant of David would reign forever. Jesus is that promised King. He is the Messiah, the Son of David, and the rightful ruler whose kingdom will never end. The gospel therefore announces not only that a Savior has come, but that the King has come. Jesus is not merely useful or comforting. He is Lord. The Savior who gives mercy is also the King who reigns. Jesus Truly Became Man The eternal Son of God truly took on human flesh. He did not merely appear to be human or wear humanity like a costume. He took on a true human nature without ceasing to be truly God. Jesus experienced hunger, weakness, sorrow, rejection, temptation, suffering, and death, yet He remained completely without sin. This truth has been carefully defended throughout church history because it stands at the heart of the gospel. Jesus Christ is one person with two natures, truly God and truly man. If Jesus is not truly God, He cannot save. If Jesus is not truly man, He cannot stand in our place. As man, He obeyed where we have disobeyed and suffered in the place of sinners. As God, His saving work is fully sufficient and eternally powerful. The Gospel Is Centered on Jesus Christ Romans will teach us about sin, wrath, righteousness, justification, sanctification, the Holy Spirit, election, Israel, Christian living, church unity, and mission. But every one of these truths ultimately finds its center in Jesus Christ. Christ is not one doctrine among many. He is the center and substance of the gospel. Without Christ there is no justification, no peace with God, no adoption, no hope in suffering, no mercy, and no eternal life. Christianity cannot be reduced to a worldview, moral system, ministry platform, theological identity, or religious tradition. Christianity is centered on Christ because the gospel itself is concerning His Son. Look to Christ Romans 1:3 calls us to look again at the glory of Jesus Christ. Look to Christ. Trust Christ. Treasure Christ. Follow Christ. Obey Christ. Proclaim Christ. Rest in Christ. Do not move beyond Christ. Do not minimize Christ. Do not replace Christ with self-help, moralism, religious performance, or vague spirituality. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the promised Son of David, the incarnate Savior, the crucified and risen Lord, and the reigning King who saves all who repent of their sins and trust in Him. The world offers many messages. Religion offers many systems. Sin offers many promises. But God has given sinners one Savior. The gospel is concerning His Son. Why Good Ideas Get Blocked: The Trust Equation for Change Leaders with Charlie GreenIt pairs naturally with the thumbnail, names the recognizable framework, and makes the change-leadership application explicit.WHY GOOD IDEAS GET BLOCKED: THE TRUST EQUATION FOR CHANGE LEADERS WITH CHARLIE GREENWhy do strong ideas—with solid evidence and a compelling business case—still get blocked?Because leading change takes more than credibility, data, and ROI. It requires trust. In this episode, I'm joined by Charlie Green, founder of Trusted Advisor Associates and co-author of the landmark book The Trusted Advisor, to explore how the Trust Equation applies to change leadership.Charlie explains why the framework should really be called the “Trustworthiness Equation” and breaks down its four components: credibility, reliability, intimacy, and self-orientation. We discuss why leaders often overestimate the rational elements of trust and underestimate the power of emotional safety, genuine attention, and making people feel heard.I also share a costly leadership mistake from my banking career: I failed to fully explore one stakeholder's reservations about a major initiative, and the resulting resistance sent our work sideways for three years. If you lead change without direct authority—or struggle to secure support for ideas you know can make a difference—this conversation will help you approach resistance, influence, and stakeholder relationships differently.IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:• Why trustworthiness matters more than simply asking others to trust you• How the four components of the Trust Equation work• Why intimacy and self-orientation can matter more than credentials and reliability• How fear prevents leaders from asking the necessary follow-up question• Why “Tell me more” can transform resistance into collaboration• How to prepare thoroughly while remaining open to other perspectives• What it means to “detach from the outcome”• Why people need to feel heard before they will support change• How an overlooked stakeholder concern can derail an initiative• Why ROI and other rational measures rarely tell the whole storySHOW NOTES :ABOUT CHARLIE GREEN:Charlie Green is the founder of Trusted Advisor Associates and co-author of The Trusted Advisor. Gregory Copley evaluates the new "Mecca Joint Defense Agreement" between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, which aims to counter Iranian influence despite mutual distrust among the members. The discussion also explores the massive transformation of global trade routes, including China's "Ice Silk Road" through the Arctic and Russia's International North-South Transport Corridor. Welcome to the Purple Patch Podcast! On this episode, IRONMAN Master Coach Matt Dixon discusses six key decisions for optimizing marathon training. First, he emphasizes the importance of committing to training by feel, focusing on consistency and quality over quantity. Second, he suggests integrating cycling or other modalities to build endurance without adding running miles. Third, he stresses the necessity of strength training for performance enhancement. Fourth, he advises against making long runs the centerpiece of training, advocating for cluster running instead. Fifth, he recommends using walk breaks as a strategic tool to manage fatigue. Finally, he advises against crushing every workout, aiming for a balanced body of work to ensure readiness and performance on race day.
