Are you ready to let go of labels such as “empath, narcissist, betrayer” or “betrayed” and slip into oneness, wisdom, and the inner abundance that is your divine birthright? Then this is the show for you. Get ready to go deep, to access the wisdom and joy of your heart, and to consciously choose healing. Many Americans don't know that the histories of the United States and Mexico are inseparably intertwined. But historian Kelly Lytle Hernández says you cannot fully understand one without the other. We fought wars over the same territories, influenced each other's politics, and remain deeply connected economically. Our stories circle around each other, shaping immigration policies and policing. And if we don't know how we got here, says Hernández, we won't know how to move forward. Her new book, “Bad Mexicans: Race, Empire, And Revolution In The Borderlands” tells the true story of a Mexican band of rebels, the magonistas, who helped launch the Mexican Revolution in 1910 and whose actions still affect the borderlands today. She talked about what she learned while researching her book and why she believes the U.S. ignores its history with Mexico at its own peril with host Kerri Miller on this week's Big Books and Bold Ideas. Guest: Kelly Lytle Hernández is a professor of history, African-American studies and urban planning at UCLA. Her latest book is “Bad Mexicans.” To listen to the full conversation you can use the audio player above. Roger Patterson is a science instructor at Answers in Genesis with a Biology degree from Montana State University. He teaches Biology and Chemistry at the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter, as well is various online offerings. He has been on the show twice before to discuss the three-volume "World Religions and Cults" set that he co-authored with Bodie Hodge, and returns this month to talk about the many science education options available through Answers in Genesis. Outline of the Discussion Roger was a science teacher in the Wyoming public schools for eight years before he was saved, and has continued his passion for teaching science at Answers in Genesis at both the Creation Museum in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area and at the Ark Encounter about 45 minutes south of there in Williamstown Kentucky. At the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, there was concern about being shut down, so Ken Ham came to Roger and told him he had just three days to prepare for a live-stream science show to carry on ministry goals through shut downs. It began with Facebook Live and no formal show title, but has grown into "Unlocking Science" on Answers.tv In addition to the web show, Roger (and others) do Explore Days, where they explore things such as Paleontology, Dinosaurs, Forensics, Physical Science, Biology, Environmental Science, and Chemistry. The overarching goal in all they do is to exalt the Scriptures and honor God. Unlocking Science brings in experts from several science disciplines within the Answers in Genesis staff. AiG offers science classes at both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter throughout the year. Some are recurring, so they're best suited for those who live nearby. Others are more intensive and condensed down to a week at a time throughout the summer, and are good for people willing to travel to participate. In addition, there are "Explore Days" that are themed days for older (High School) kids, and "Explore, Junior" for younger kids. Online classes are also available. We circle back to Roger's background, conversion, and early career. Roger is most passionate about keeping a Biblical worldview throughout education. Answers in Genesis uses the Seven-C's of History: Creation, Corruption, Catastrophe, Confusion, Christ, Cross, and Consummation. We do our best to train up our kids in God's Word, while exposing them to competing worldviews and showing them the weaknesses in those worldviews. Answers in Genesis teaches a Young-Earth view, but considers it a secondary theological issue. The most important message is the Gospel, which they introduce into as much as of the materials as they possibly can. To hear Maci Shelden talk today, you might never imagine where she was in her early 20s: playing the part, hanging out and drinking with high school and college friends, always bending over backwards for everyone, trying so hard to get it right and be a good girl.    Underneath it all, she felt lonely and disconnected, like she was always pretending or putting on a show. She knew there had to be more to life than just going through the motions.    And she was right!    Maci has been with us at Desire on Fire since the very beginning. She was one of the participants on our very first online offering in 2018 (and has participated in many since), and is currently the student coordinator for our Inner Circle membership.    In our very first in-person Desire on Fire retreat, she had a massive breakthrough that shattered her perception of herself. She also knew it would affect her new dating relationship with Tanner.    She realized she was at a crossroads: Would she keep pretending like she always had, keep being the good girl she thought everyone expected? Or would she dare to be fully honest and say the thing that could end the relationship?    In today's episode, Maci and Tanner give the vulnerable-sweet-sexy details about what this work has done for them, what it has allowed them to say yes to, and how a desire-led life shapes every aspect of a relationship.    What you'll learn in this episode: What Maci finally admitted (out loud!) about herself at a DoF retreat The moment that shifted Maci and Tanner's relationship  Sexy details of their adventures together The challenges along the way — and how they use this work daily to stay honest & connected How this level of honesty affects every aspect of their relationship   Join us (and 300+ women!) in person at the Desire on Fire Experience event, October 29-30, in Southern California! www.desireonfirelive.com Code: DESIRE for $500 off the regular ticket price!   Explore our website: https://www.desireonfire.com/ Come and join our FB community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DesireOnFire/ And connect with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/desireonfire/   Connect with Aimee: Check out my instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/aimeebatuski/   Connect with Ellie: Check out my instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/elliemontgomerie   Connect with Maci: https://www.instagram.com/_itsmaci   Connect with Tanner at Amazing Grace in Breckenridge

No matter how big or small your team is, there are always things to discuss. Most managers respond by holding weekly meetings. At their best, team meetings are a forum for open and productive communication between team members. At their worst, they waste everyone’s time and energy. If your weekly meetings aren't moving your work forward and leaving people in a positive mood, it’s probably time you redesign them. In this episode, I share practical advice that you can implement to make your weekly meetings more productive and enjoyable for everyone. The full episode guide includes an overview of the factors to consider when designing a team meeting, along with examples of team meeting structures, formats, and prework to consider using as a model for your team. Get it when you join the Modern Manager community or purchase the full guide at www.themodernmanager.com/shop. Get the free mini-guide at themodernmanager.com/miniguides. Subscribe to my newsletter to get episodes, articles, and free mini-guides delivered to your inbox. Read the related blog article: Make Weekly Team Meetings Work for Your Team Key Takeaways: There is no right way to have a team meeting. The key is to identify your meeting objectives so that you can design the meeting to meet those needs. Consider the flow of the agenda. How will you structure your time together to achieve the meeting objectives? Team meetings can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as multiple hours, as long as the time is well spent. Determine what people can do to best prepare for the meeting. This could include completing a dashboard, contributing topics to discuss, or nothing at all. Don’t assume a weekly meeting is necessary. Sometimes daily or monthly cadences are more appropriate. Explore the format that will best meet the team’s needs. It could be in person, virtually, via Slack, or something else. Regularly revisit the design of your team meetings to assess if they are still meeting the team’s needs. It’s okay to experiment with different choices in order to optimize how your team meets. mamie@mamieks.com

As an adventuring enthusiast she is always on the hunt for adventure both local & global and loves to share her stories to inspire the same in you!    She truly believes adventure is what you make it so you can find her hiking up some mountain or discovering the latest immersive cultural experience in the city.   Tayo in her own words:   My name is Tayo and I am just a regular gal with a job (oh the inconvenience) who exhibits off the scale delight when she travels and explores!  I love travelling as it appeals to my inner childhood of being an explorer and finding something new in my surroundings, be it in the city I live or a new destination.  As a child I was an avid reader of The Famous Five by Enid Blyton who were always on adventures and I was always exploring around the estate where I grew up.     Travelling for me is a collection of interactions, memories and personal development, and tells me more about the world I live in.  Some of my most vivid memories from travelling are moments I reflect on and smile, like seeing the gorgeous sunsets over Oxford city to meeting Frank in Cuba who kindly gave me a hat made of local leaves (which I still have to this day and use for fancy dress!)   Blogging is my outlet to share my eclectic narratives and photos of the beautiful world I get to see, packed full of adventure!  The main thing  though is that I hope it inspires you to go out there and have an adventure even with your 9 to 5!   Not all travels have to be in far flung exotic places (although that is fun too!) And who says who have to jack it all in to travel?
