THE LONELY END OF NORSE GREENLAND Colleague Eleanor Barraclough. The final segment explores the disappearance of the Norse settlement in Greenland, focusing on the Herjolfsnes graveyard. Preserved clothing from the 15th century reveals garments that were patched repeatedly, symbolizing the colony's isolation and poverty. Barracloughdescribes a poignant detail: a woman's dress that ripped as she was buried, marking the end of the settlement. Factors discussed include a cooling climate and interactions with the Inuit, evidenced by carved wooden figures. The history closes with a report of a witch burning in 1407, near the colony's end. MOTIVE AND THE PSYCHOLOGY OF A NARCISSIST Colleague Paul Gregory. In the final segment, Gregoryexplores Oswald's motive, arguing that history has underestimated his intelligence and manipulativeness. Despite his dyslexia and poor education, Oswald successfully manipulated government officials in both the US and USSR. The motive was rooted in a desire to prove his greatness to the worldâa belief instilled by his motherâand to prove his manhood to Marina, who viewed him with scorn. Oswald viewed the trial as a platform to broadcast his political theories and achieve historic status. Ultimately, Gregory concludes the assassination was the act of a narcissist trying to escape insignificance and domestic failure by committing a "monstrous act." NUMBER 8
Disappointment has a way of showing up unexpectedlyâsometimes through life-altering hardship, and sometimes through smaller shifts that still sting deeply. This devotional reminds us that even when our disappointments feel insignificant compared to othersâ struggles, they still matter to God because they matter to us. And while we may wish disappointing days would disappear completely, Scripture is honest that trouble is part of life. But so is Godâs steady presence. One of the most comforting truths offered here is that disappointment is not proof that God is disappointed in us. It isnât a sign that weâve done something wrong or that weâve fallen out of favor. Instead, God knows exactly where we are, and He has not abandoned us in the space weâre in. The devotional points to Psalm 18:19 as a reminder that God rescues and provides refuge because He delights in His children. That means even when circumstances feel cramped, heavy, or discouraging, God can still lead us into a âspacious placeââa place where peace is present, where protection is real, and where we can still see His blessings at work. Godâs delight in us is constant. And in return, He invites us to find our delight in Himâeven on disappointing days. That doesnât mean ignoring sorrow or forcing happiness. It means turning toward the One who remains faithful, who offers refuge in the middle of our letdowns, and who is guiding us toward a future shaped by His goodness. Even in disappointment, we are never outside Godâs care, His plan, or His delight. Main Takeaways Disappointment is part of life, but it is never proof that God is disappointed in you. God is not surprised by your circumstancesâHe is present and active in them. The Lord offers refuge and rescue in the very middle of discouragement. God delights in you consistently, even when your joy feels threatened. You can find true delight in Godâs presence, even on hard days. In this episode, I share critical year-end reflections for growth-stage CEOs, especially those leading organizations of around 20 employees. As companies scale, leadership must shift from personal execution to empowering others and ensuring the business can thrive even in the leader's absence. I walk through seven powerful reflection questions designed to accelerate leadership growth, from identifying your highest-impact actions to confronting avoided conversations and evaluating how well you're adapting to what the future demands. This episode challenges leaders to lead with courage, rethink their approach for the year ahead, and strengthen both self-awareness and organizational health. All reflection questions are included in the show notes for easy reference. Episode Highlights & Time Stamps 3:09 Seven Reflection Questions for CEOs 6:33 Exploring Leadership Identity Changes 7:16 Leading with Courage in the New Year 7:54 First Steps to Empower Your Team 9:00 Closing Thoughts and Final Reflections Episode Summary In this episode, I guide growth-stage CEOs through a critical year-end reflection often missed during scale, especially around the 20-employee mark. As leadership demands increase, success is no longer about doing more yourself, but about building a business that can move forward without your constant presence. The episode challenges leaders to confront a simple but sobering truth: "If nothing changes in how you lead, this is exactly where your company will be next year." Through seven focused reflection questions, I help CEOs evaluate where their leadership truly creates leverage, where it limits growth, and what must change to build a healthier, more scalable organization. The 7 Reflection Questions The Leverage Audit Which 20% of your leadership actions created 80% of your company's momentum this year? The Impact Test Where did your leadership create meaningful growth in others, not just results? Who became more capable because you led differently? The Avoided Conversation What is the one conversation if addressed that would most reduce friction and free you as the CEO? The Capacity Gap Is the way you're currently leading sustainable for the next stage of growth? The CEO Identity Shift As your company grows, which parts of your founder identity are no longer serving you? Who must you become for the business to grow beyond you? The Courage Move If you were willing to lead with more courage, not more effort, what would you do differently in the first 90 days of the new year? The First Shift What is the first leadership behavior you will stop, start, or delegate in the next week to reinforce a business that doesn't depend on you? Closing Reflection If nothing changes in how you lead, where will your company and your energy be this time next year? All reflection questions are included here for easy reference. Key Takeaways Growth-stage CEOs often become the bottleneck around the 20-employee mark; scaling requires a shift from personal execution to leadership leverage. If your leadership approach does not change as the company grows, it will eventually limit both organizational performance and your personal energy. Effective leadership is measured not by how much you do, but by how well others perform and grow in your absence. Identifying the small set of leadership actions that drive the majority of results creates clarity, focus, and momentum. Avoided conversations are often the hidden source of organizational friction and CEO overload. The leadership style that helped you reach this stage may not be the one required for the next phase of growth. Courage not increased effort is the defining factor in meaningful leadership evolution. Small, intentional behavior shifts (what you stop, start, or delegate) can rapidly increase organizational independence. Year-end reflection is not passive; when done well, it becomes a strategic act that shapes the company's future. Sustainable growth depends on building a business that can operate and win without relying on the CEO's constant presence. Ideal For: Founders, CEOs, executives, managers, and anyone committed to elevating their leadership capacity. Resources & Next Steps Ready to take your leadership energy to the next level? A hundred years ago, the great New Testament scholar J. Gresham Machen sounded the alarm about educational freedom in America. He believed that the state had begun to encroach in a most grievous way upon the sphere of the family, assuming duties it had no warrant to perform. Machen's words of caution are most timely for us. We live in an epoch in which, informed by UN policy goals, western governments are showing fresh determination to become arbiters and guarantors of the education of each and every child. This week we look in detail at what is happening in the UK, and consider what a faithful Christian response to these pressures might look like.  Featured resources: â Excerpt from J. 'You have a choice about how you put content out into the world in 2026, and that choice isn't just a business choice, it's about who you are and what's important to you.' It's the time of year when we traditionally think about the changes we want to make in our lives to help us become the people we want to be. In 2026, I think we also need to think about what we want to KEEP doing for ourselves, even though AI tools might be able to do those things more quickly and easily. Writing is a great example. From exploratory writing - early-stage, messy, private thinking-onto-the-page - to social media posts to writing a book, embracing the messiness and the hard yards is what will set you apart, personally and professionally. Get out of your comfort zone and lean into writing that sparks genuine connection, builds trust and results in words worth reading. Because if you delegate your writing now, you're delegating you might just find you're delegating your thinking in the future.Â

The environment you're in right now is strategically designed to draw out something greater within you. In this transformative message from Luke 2:46-52, Sarah Jakes Roberts explores how God places us in situations that demand more from our hidden spiritual capacity. Just as Moses was drawn from the Nile, God pulls out what He's already placed inside us through the environments we encounter. Hannah's story in 1 Samuel reveals that breakthrough often requires doing something unnatural to access the supernatural. When Jesus humbled Himself to live in human limitation, He modeled the ultimate act of surrendering what was natural for something greater. Your willingness to shift your environment, not just wait for your season to change, may be the key to experiencing what God wants to do through you. Obedience is the only strategy for stewarding something bigger than your understanding. This message shows us how to break out of limitation and step into supernatural breakthrough. Message: âNever Been Done Beforeâ Scripture: Luke 2:46-52 (NKJV) Speaker: Sarah Jakes Roberts Date: Jan. 4, 2026 âš Welcome to Your Moment of Transformation You don't have to walk this journey alone. Let Jesus guide your steps and fill your life with purpose and peace.
New beginnings often come with mixed emotions. While we long for whatâs fresh and restored, stepping into something new usually requires letting go of whatâs familiarâeven when itâs uncomfortable or painful. This devotional paints that picture through a story of a guarded man who finds healing when he chooses forgiveness, community, and courage over isolation. His journey reflects a deeper spiritual truth: new life almost always involves release before renewal. Scripture reminds us that following Christ means intentionally setting aside old ways of thinking, behaving, and believing. That process can feel like a kind of deathâdying to habits and identities that once defined us. But just as Christâs death made resurrection possible, our willingness to surrender the old self opens the door to the new life God has promised. Salvation may be a one-time event, but living it out is a daily decision. Putting on the ânew selfâ is not passive. Itâs a repeated choice to live according to who God says we are, even when it feels costly or unfamiliar. New beginnings may stretch us, require sacrifice, or invite us into situations weâd rather avoidâbut we never walk that path alone. God goes before us, walks beside us, and empowers us by His Spirit. Because of Christ, we can move forward with confidence, trusting that the God of new beginnings is faithful to complete what He has started. Main Takeaways New beginnings often require letting go of old habits, attitudes, or identities. Following Christ involves an intentional, daily choice to live as a new creation. Growth can be uncomfortable, but it is necessary for spiritual renewal. Christâs death and resurrection make our new life possible. God walks with us into every new beginning, empowering us by His Spirit. The Mindful Healers Podcast with Dr. Jessie Mahoney and Dr. Ni-Cheng Liang
Have you ever considered how a few carefully chosen words could shape your year, your energy, your decisions, and the way you experience life? In this annual tradition, we share our personal practice of choosing intention words for the year ahead. This isn't about goals or resolutions. It's about choosing how you want to be, move through, and live your life. This year's process was deeper, slower, and more nuanced than in past years. Intention words act like a GPS for your nervous system. They offer clarity and direction through challenge, and how the right words if chosen with care can become some of your most transformative tools for personal and professional growth. Whether you're new to this practice or returning to it, you'll find inspiration, permission, and a deep sense of possibility. Pearls of Wisdom: Intentions are not goals, they're a mindful orientation. They work at the nervous system level to support aligned action and self-compassionate growth. Choosing multiple words (including a stretch word) adds richness and dimension. Life is complex, and your words can meet that with grace. Words should feel aligned, not performative. Let go of judgment, and choose words that support the version of yourself you're growing into. Words are powerful tools for decision-making. Ask yourself: Will this make me feel wealthy, healthy, strategic, or exquisite? This practice is most powerful when done with intention, over time, and often with support. It's subtle but profoundly transformative work Reflection Questions: How do you want to feel at the end of next year? What do you want to experience emotionally, physically, and in your relationships? What version of yourself are you growing into? What does she wear, how does she lead, how does she make decisions? If you'd like support in choosing your own intention words and integrating them into your year, I offer this process within all of my 1:1 coaching and group programs. This work is gentle, profound, and truly life-changing. Comment on the Show by Sending Mark a Text Message.Have you ever wondered what happens when a dedicated professional risks it all to expose wrongdoing in the workplace? In this gripping episode of Employee Survival Guide®, Mark Carey takes you through the riveting legal battle of Dr. Misty Blanchett Porter against Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). This true story reveals the harsh realities of institutional discrimination, dysfunction, whistleblowing, and the often perilous consequences of standing up for what's right. Dr. Porter, a highly skilled physician with over two decades of experience, transitioned from a celebrated surgeon to a whistleblower after raising serious concerns about her colleagues' medical practices. This episode dives into the complexities of employment law, focusing on the precarious balance between institutional reputation and employee rights. Join us as we analyze key legal elements, including the pivotal Second Circuit Court decision that overturned an initial summary judgment and the implications of the jury's split verdict in 2025. Bitterness has a way of settling deep into our heartsâespecially when weâve experienced injustice, betrayal, suffering, or pain that feels undeserved. And when it takes root, it doesnât just stay quietly in the background. It can slowly drain our joy, distort our perspective, and keep us from experiencing the goodness God wants for us. Left unchecked, bitterness becomes a life-killerâsqueezing the peace and freedom out of our lives from the inside out. This devotional reminds us that bitterness isnât something we can conquer through willpower alone. Even with all the tools the world offersâself-help programs, personal improvement plans, or counseling strategiesâtrue freedom from bitterness requires something deeper: forgiveness. Forgiveness is the doorway that releases us from the grip bitterness has on our souls. And while forgiving someone who isnât sorryâor doesnât believe theyâve done anything wrongâcan feel impossible, God never asks us to do it alone. He supplies strength and grace so that we can let go of what we were never meant to carry. As we step into a new year, this is an invitation to leave bitterness behindâbefore it becomes a root that grows and spreads. The call is clear: obey Godâs instruction to release it, and trust Him to heal what you cannot fix. Jesus not only taught forgivenessâHe demonstrated it, even while suffering on the cross. That same power and grace are available to you today. God is ready to help you loosen your grip on bitterness and step forward into a freer, lighter, more joy-filled future. Main Takeaways Bitterness can take root quietly but become spiritually and emotionally destructive over time. Freedom from bitterness requires forgivenessânot just time, effort, or self-improvement. Forgiving others can feel impossible, especially when they arenât sorry, but God gives strength to do what we canât do alone. A new year is an opportunity to release what is poisoning your heart and walk into greater peace. Jesus modeled forgiveness, proving that grace and freedom are possible even in deep pain.
