Continuing our focus on the LGBT community for pride month, Sinéad meets James O Hagan from Gormanstown, James works with LGBT Ireland as an advocate for the older LGBT community through the LGBT Ireland champion programme and the older and bolder online community set up in lockdown. James produced the brilliant invisible thread podcast series shining a light on the difficult experiences many older queer people had in Ireland many of whom concealed their identity as homosexuality was still criminalised. This week, Holly and Hilary are joined by Cian Sullivan and James O’Hagan of Sissy That Pod to break down LGBT representation in Irish media. A message from Hilary and Holly:Hey peeps, we’re so excited to release this episode with Sissy that Pod! Previously, this was a topic that we didn't know much about before talking to the guys and doing our research. Of course we are still learning about this area and want to learn more. We hope this contributes to making LGBT topics more accessible because this is definitely not explored enough. We are excited to be involved and don't forget to keep up with new research in the future:We focused a lot on gay representation in this episode we just wanted to acknowledge that there is a real lack of trans representation in Irish media. We hope you enjoy learning along with us, please get in touch if you have anything to contribute.
