The successor to the Nintendo Switch is (almost) here. But it's arrived at an awkward time for both Nintendo and gamers alike. The Switch 2 was initially announced in January, but fans learned much more about it during a Nintendo Direct livestream a few weeks ago. It included information about the system's launch date (June 5), its hardware specs, the games Nintendo fans could expect to play at release, and, perhaps most importantly, prices for both the Switch 2 and its games. That last part has put a damper on some of the enthusiasm for the system's launch. It will retail for $449.99. The price of Nintendo's games is also climbing.Nintendo is citing a rise in the cost of the console's production as well as economic uncertainties like President Donald Trump's tariffs as reasons for the price hikes. We dig into the latest for this installment of our series, "Game Mode."Want to support 1A? Josh and David analyze the Trump administration's contentious decision to cancel a DOJ agreement addressing Lowndes County's severe sewage issues, linking it to the anti-DEI agenda and its harmful real-world consequences. They also scrutinize State Representative Corey Harbison's prolonged absence from the Legislature while still drawing a salary, sparking a debate on accountability and the problematic practice of voting by proxy. Then, immigration attorney Ruby Adams provides insight into the pervasive fear within immigrant communities, the challenges of navigating the legal system under the current administration, and the alarming implications of disregarding due process exemplified by cases like Mr. Kilmar Abrego Garcia. She touches on the chilling effect on reporting crimes and accessing education due to this environment of fear. Finally, David offers a "hot take" connecting the past handling of Osama Bin Laden to present-day concerns about due process erosion. This leads into this week's Rightwing Nut of the Week, focusing on Republican politicians engaging in performative and dehumanizing photo opportunities at a notorious El Salvadorian prison, highlighting a disturbing lack of empathy.Connect with Us X/Twitter FacebookAbout Our SponsorAlabama Politics This Week is sponsored by Wind Creek Hospitality. The state of Alaska is actively working to shut down a gaming hall just opened by the Native Village of Eklutna. The Chin'an Gaming Hall is doing a brisk business with pull-tabs and 85 bingo machines in an unassuming building just outside of Anchorage. But state officials maintain the operation is illegal because the tribe does not control the land it is on. Elsewhere, in Maine, tribes are also working against state resistance to expand gaming. They face a regulatory reality that is different from tribes in other states because of legislation in 1980 limiting Maine's tribes' gaming enterprise ability.

This week, Zak and Aaron dive into a new controversy that may have long-lasting implications for the industry at large — Nintendo's decision to price some first-party AAA games at $80.The duo discusses why this price increase is not only unnecessary and bad for consumers, but also how it stands to open the floodgates for greed among big publishers looking to make the all-powerful line go up for shareholders. They also spend some time dissecting why the argument that games need to increase in price to keep up with inflation is myopic at best, and completely misguided at worst. Please, enjoyListen to Beach Girl on SpotifyCheck out MosscatMarket on EtsyCheck out even more MosscatMarket on Instagram

The Last Jedi was 8 years ago, and the media is still calling Star Wars fans "racists" because of Kelly Marie Tran, John Boyega and The Acolyte (like, all of it.) The media and Lucasfilm are using Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega as scapegoats to push a false narrative that Star Wars fans are racist, despite the vast majority being unfairly vilified. Hollywood and the media are weaponizing identities and blaming fans for their own stupidity and dumb choices, rather than taking responsibility for failures like those of Lucasfilm and Marvel. The entertainment industry's constant attacks on fans and their personal opinions are tanking movies and shows because people anticipate "one of those things" pushing an agenda. The media and entertainment industry are regressing to the 1950s by constantly shoving identity politics and agendas down people's throats, unfairly labeling Star Wars fans as racist. The industry's need to change characters and stories to reflect actors' personal identities is ruining movies and shows by prioritizing actors' lives over storytelling. Kelly Marie Tran's attempt to tie her new movie to the Star Wars controversy is deemed ridiculous and attention-seeking, as nobody cares about her new project. The entertainment industry's actions are making people mad at each other and hating unfairly when they didn't before, creating unnecessary division among fans. Diversity and inclusion are being used as tools to push agendas and vilify certain groups, symptomatic of a larger problem in Hollywood and the media.

There are already PS6 rumors gaining momentum. Does this further prove that PS5 has been sort of a dud? I don't know. And we aren't going into how true or possible this rumor is: just talking about what it would take to be a success. Plus, I share more YoVG deep lore. correction I misspeak about Marathon: I have only seen the official gameplay trailer and I say "when you watch the influencer/content creator gameplay it is much faster/more interesting." BUT I meant their videos TALKING about their gameplay. As far as I have seen, no content creator has released footage of themselves actually playing. Just thoughts on their playtest experience which gives me hope that it will be good.

Marvel Comics is going there. Tony Stark seems like an Elon Musk stand-in, and has cured himself of "the woke mind virus." Yes, they actually called it that in One World Under Doom. A little on the nose there, Marvel? Marvel Comics portrays Tony Stark and Dr. Doom as cured of the "woke mind virus," drawing parallels to Elon Musk's Neuralink and raising concerns about mind control and erosion of free will. The storyline controversially addresses political issues like open borders, free healthcare, and globalism, departing from Marvel's usual tactful approach to reflecting societal zeitgeist. Critics accuse Marvel of using comics as a platform for their own political views rather than providing balanced commentary on contemporary issues. The "woke mind virus" is depicted as a mind control device capable of controlling everyone on the planet, raising alarm about mass manipulation and loss of individual freedom. Marvel faces accusations of weaponizing the storyline to attack critics and enemies, sparking concerns about potential censorship and suppression of dissenting views.
