All Roads Lead to Woke

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 141 "Woke" often proceeds by what amounts to social magic spells, and some of the most potent kinds of these spells are certain framings of inevitability or universality. The general gist of the construction would be "everything is already like this, so we should do it consciously (and according to Woke framing)." An alternative is "everything will eventually work this way, no matter how it started, so we should lean into it consciously (and according to Woke framing)." Surely, you've encountered this. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay dives into this construction and how it sets up other Woke "magic spells" (like affordance traps: https://newdiscourses.com/2024/03/staying-out-of-affordance-traps/ ) to get you to do their bidding. You won't want to miss this important expose of Woke manipulation. Latest from New Discourses Press! The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 190 What gets called Woke, especially on the Left, is a complete worldview (or ersatz theology) that therefore provides all the usual philosophical elements. It isn't just a way of knowing or of acting in the world; it is also a comprehensive theory of being in the world. Because Woke (especially on the Left) is critically constructivist in its underlying architecture, the self it believes in is a constructed self, or even a self-constructed self. To highlight and explain this, in this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay takes us back into Joe Kincheloe's Critical Constructivism: A Primer (https://amzn.to/4qUzlVx ), which he calls "The Book of Woke" to discuss the idea of self-production in a Woke ontology. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 189 An undeniable part of the Nazi Experiment is that it operated a fascist-style dictatorship for its infamous "racialist worldview." It got this dictatorship not just through the election of the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler but through some rapid changes to the law that were made in the first sixty days of Hitler's role in Germany's Chancellorship. Basic liberties were suspended, the Constitution was overridden, and all governing authority was placed ultimately in the hands of the German government and its new Chancellor. All of this had to be done to respond to certain existential emergencies, or so it appeared, following a fire in the Reichstag, the German Parliament, set by arson, allegedly by a Communist as a first stroke in a broader Communist uprising. Within less than two months, Hitler had effectively full control of Germany. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay presents the eleventh volume in his Nazi Experiment podcast series, outlining how this sudden emergency changed the entire course of the history of the world in a span of under four weeks. Join him for what he calls the "schizophrenic discomfort" of the terrifying parallels this period offers for us today. Latest from New Discourses Press! New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 139 As many people are now aware, children are being separated from their parents, both by the state and beyond the state's reach, as a result of indoctrination in gender ideology. In many "gender sanctuary" states, child protective services can even step in and "protect" children from their own parents and good parenting on these grounds, and the circumstances of these separations (sometimes de facto terminations of parental custody without due process) are sometimes developed and encouraged by third parties in schools, counseling offices, clinics, and online spaces. This situation has enough of a feel of "trafficking" of children to it that the word is naturally attaching to these situations even though it is legally incorrect. So, what is going on with "gender trafficking," and can it be developed into a genuine legal definition that gives parents legal options and paths to action? In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay explains and explores these ideas in a new way. If the issue of gender ideology and protecting children from it are important to you, this is a must-listen. Latest from New Discourses Press! What Woke Really Means

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 188 What is "Woke"? Even though it's a term that has come to us through slang and without a stable meaning as it evolved, the term "Woke" is increasingly coming to mean something quite specific and precise. For several years now, we have associated it with the radical Leftism of our day, sometimes being so precise as to say that it means having adopted (or "woke up to") a critical constructivist worldview. What does that mean, though? At bottom, Woke is a worldview rooted in entitlement and alienation that gets located for the individual in class conflict. By absorbing his own sense of alienation and "superseding" himself for a group identity, a man becomes "Woke." Along with that comes a preference for subjugated or marginalized knowledges and ways of knowing, as the lingo goes. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay breaks down "Woke" and all that it means in this deeper way. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 187 What is Islamism? Is it the same thing as Islam? Has it varied over time? What's its relationship to Communism, at least in our present era? These are important questions, particularly in light of the undeniable force of the Red-Green Alliance currently besetting the West. Against the backdrop of American leaders naming the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, at least in limited fashion, it's a worthwhile endeavor to explore its intellectual underpinnings, which were recorded by Sayyid Qutb in a book called Milestones (https://amzn.to/48QcfHR) in 1964, two years before he was hanged in Egypt for his radicalism. In order to demonstrate this fact and make it popular, a Russian student some decades ago devised a popular party game called "Mafia" that, after spreading to Western nations, got rebranded "Werewolves." Saving American Liberty, Session 8 In this session, Michael O'Fallon argues that contemporary post-liberal and integralist movements, while often presented as moral correctives to modern liberalism, pose significant challenges to pluralism, constitutional governance, and individual liberty. O'Fallon examines how concepts such as distributism and subsidiarity can shift authority away from individuals toward centralized structures claiming to serve the “common good,” and how modern forms of integralism blur the distinction between spiritual and temporal power, raising concerns about dissent and conscience in diverse societies. O'Fallon situates these developments within broader dynamics of social destabilization and reform, noting how periods of cultural conflict and institutional distrust create openings for sweeping structural change. He further explores the evolving role of religious institutions, cautioning that partnerships with political and economic elites risk instrumentalizing faith in support of technocratic agendas. O'Fallon concludes that the convergence of political theory, religion, and technology signals a transition toward more integrated forms of authority that require careful, historically informed scrutiny to ensure they remain compatible with freedom, accountability, and human dignity. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 186 The dialectic is ultimately the engine of all Marxist and Hegelian thought and also underlies Fascism and the conflict between Fascism and Marxism. It is also fundamentally Sociological Alchemy, as the Soviets both knew and admitted. Based on Marx's ideas about dialectical materialism as the fundamental law of all of Nature, including Man, the Soviets outlined three key dialectical laws and taught them to every school child and party member. First, there is the transformation of quantity into quality, and vice-versa. Second, there is the struggle and unification of opposites. Third, there is the "negation of the negation," which most people know as "problem, reaction, solution" in practice. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay introduces these three dialectical laws of Marxist and Soviet thought and brings them alive for you while comparing them to the social alchemy of George Soros and the ancient wizardry that tried to turn lead into gold. At the New Discourses-hosted Saving American Liberty conference held in Dallas, Texas, on August 22-23, 2025, founder of New Discourses, James Lindsay, explains in this important fourth lecture how thinking changed as the Modern Era gave way to an Information Era many consider to be "Postmodern." Continuing from his previous lecture in the series, Lindsay explains that "Woke" sociognostic thinking evolved along with this change, which can be characterized by a transition from thinking man is produced by his material conditions to believing he is produced by his social (structural) conditions, which "Woke" radicals need to seize in order to remake man in their own images. “Create A More Positive Rehoboth” was a decades-long goal for progress and inclusiveness in a charming beach town in southern Delaware. Rehoboth, which was established in the 19th century as a Methodist Church meeting camp, has, over time, become a thriving mecca for the LGBTQ+ community. In Queering Rehoboth Beach: Beyond the Boardwalk (Temple UP, 2024), historian and educator Dr. James Sears charts this significant evolution. Dr. Sears draws upon extensive oral history accounts, archival material, and personal narratives to chronicle the "Battle for Rehoboth,” which unfolded in the late 20th century, as conservative town leaders and homeowners opposed progressive entrepreneurs and gay activists. He recounts not just the emergence of the gay and lesbian bars, dance clubs, and organizations that drew the queer community to the region, but also the efforts of local politicians and homeowners, among other groups who fought to develop and protect the traditional identity of this beach town. Moreover, issues of race, class, and gender and sexuality informed opinions as residents and visitors struggled with the AIDS crisis and the legacy of Jim Crow. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Saving American Liberty, Session 5 In this session from the New Discourses event 'Saving American Liberty,' Michael O'Fallon argues that global political, corporate, and religious institutions are jointly reshaping Western society through “degrowth” policies, sustainability mandates, and ideological frameworks like ESG and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, which he sees as mechanisms for centralizing control and limiting individual freedom. He contrasts the West's self-imposed economic contraction with China's expansion through the Belt and Road Initiative, claiming this shift empowers China while weakening America's global position. O'Fallon warns that identity-based conflicts, migration pressures, and urban destabilization are fragmenting Western societies into competing tribal enclaves, leaving them vulnerable to foreign influence. He concludes that COVID-era restrictions, digital surveillance, and AI-driven governance signal a broader transition from a merit-based, liberty-oriented system to one that demands ideological compliance from both citizens and institutions. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 185 The Nazi Experiment wasn't just an idea. It was an idea put into practice. Putting that idea into practice started with a movement, but it required a totalitarian state apparatus to fully implement, to tremendous disaster. What was Adolf Hitler's real vision for the Nazi State? He makes it plain: the primary, if not sole, purpose of the state is to protect and improve the race. That is, Hitler's state wasn't ethnonationalist as a matter of happenstance but centrally, by design. In that regard, given the realities of Europe and the world, the Holocaust, and additional such racially motivated purges, were completely predictable all the way back to the mid-1920s in Mein Kampf. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay continues his "Nazi Experiment" podcast series with its tenth volume, reading from the second chapter of the second volume of Mein Kampf to show you the horrible reality of the intended Nazi State apparatus in Hitler's own words. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay (featuring a post by Logan Lancing) dives into the problem with Fascist (Stakeholder) economic models on a variety of levels, using both economic theory and historical and contemporary examples to make his point. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 134 At the center of Woke thinking is critical theory. So, what is it? In short, critical theory is a tool for delegitimizing a real thing for not being some kind of sociopolitical ideal thing that cannot even exist. The way it works is by holding the real thing up to the standards of an imaginary ideal rather than against the contingencies of reality and criticizing it with the aim of breaking people's faith in it, simply for existing in reality. It's a wicked tool almost always used to undermine something legitimate so that something illegitimate can replace it (dialectics). The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 184 At the center of the Nazi Experiment is the Jewish Question, undeniably. The Jewish Question amounts to asking "what should we do with the Jews?" in this case, in Europe. Across the entirety of his project, Adolf Hitler had a straightforward answer, though the specifics differed: get rid of them, all of them. In fact, he proudly campaigned for himself on the project of "solving the Jewish Question," not just on matters of German national pride or the economy, as is sometimes wrongly reported. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, the ninth volume in the deep Nazi Experiment series, host James Lindsay takes you through Hitler's infamous 1939 speech to the Reichstag as well as a lesser-known letter Hitler wrote in 1919, showing remarkable consistency in Hitler's vision for the Jews over the entirety of the Nazi Experiment. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 133 Over the last few years, much has been said about the "motte and bailey" rhetorical strategy, which is a dishonest way in which postmodernist, Woke, and other manipulative people argue. First described by Nicholas Shackel in a 2005 paper, "On the Vacuity of Postmodern Methodology," it has become a standard explanation for the Woke era in the last few years. In Counter Wokecraft (https://www.amazon.com/Counter-Wokecraft-Manual-Combatting-University/dp/B09LH2L3B6/ref=sr_1_1), James Lindsay and Charles Pincourt outline both offensive and defensive uses of this crooked strategy, which is a kind of "strategic equivocation" used to steal power. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay explains how the "motte and bailey" strategy can be iterated through a series of players to give legitimacy to truly radical ideas and programs while the actors involved keep their own hands mostly clean. In this third talk from the Saving American Liberty learning seminar in Dallas, Texas, hosted by New Discourses on August 22-23, 2025, Lindsay explains the concept in considerable detail. He also applies it to the "20th century" (or, Modernist) mode of thinking to reveal that two forms of Woke sociognosticism appear in that context: Communism on the Woke Left and Fascism as a form of Reaction on the Woke Right. These are crucially important questions in our present era of extreme polarization that only seems to be increasing past any sense of a possible limit. To address these questions in a deep and fresh way, from August 22-23, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, New Discourses was proud to host a learning seminar event called Saving American Liberty, featuring talks from New Discourses founder James Lindsay and the founder of Sovereign Nations and New Discourses partner, Michael O'Fallon. In this third talk of the seminar, Lindsay puts some foundation under the confusing terms "Left" and "Right," which have strayed quite a bit from their origins in the French Revolution. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 132 There are several differences between the Left and the Right on ideological, philosophical, and political grounds, but in plain practical terms, there's another obvious difference. The Left has radicalized in a way conservatives have not, and in proportions that conservatives have not. Why is that? The answer is that the Left has succumbed to the blinding temptation for power far more than the rest of us have, and it has driven them mad. The thing is, while radicalism and political violence are not (at present) "both sides" problems, temptation is a both-sides problem. The friend-enemy distinction as a criterion of politics tempts us too, and we must continue to choose to reject it, or we will lose this most important distinction between Left and Right. The Raging Birth of the Queer Militancy Movement

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 181 Due to the circumstances of the vile murder of Charlie Kirk, not to mention so many other acts of violence in the last few years coming from Queer Activists, we need to understand the Queer Militancy movement. This movement was inaugurated, by most accounts, with a Pride Day (how times have changed!) pamphlet written by an angry (sociognostic) lesbian and distributed in June of 1990. It is, in fact, therefore, a cornerstone not just of the Queer Militancy movement but also of a militant thread that has always been a part of Queer Theory. In this jarring episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay read through this evil anonymous memo, titled "Queers Read This," (https://www.digitaltransgenderarchive.net/downloads/df65v8092) to give you a window into the dark mentality of violence in Queer Theory. You won't (but kind of will) want to miss this. Latest from New Discourses Press! We Must Win By the Book

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 130 The hard part of building and protecting civilization is that we have to do it while maintaining the values and principles of civilization. That means while the enemies of civilization can run amok and break rules, norms, policies, laws, and expectations, we cannot. We have to do everything by the book. It's not just that we need to on a matter of principle, though. We also must as a matter of strategy. In a two-tiered system like the Woke Left has set up for itself, it gets to excuse itself for breaking the rules, but we will not have that luxury. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay breaks down the need for us to win by the book so we can preserve the book. Join him to learn how to fight for things worth fighting for. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 180 After a long wait, we return to finish our exploration (https://newdiscourses.com/2025/07/the-communist-manifesto-volume-one/) of The Communist Manifesto (pdf: https://newdiscourses.com/2025/07/the-communist-manifesto-volume-one/) here on the New Discourses Podcast. In this episode, host James Lindsay takes you through the last chapter of the Manifesto itself and then continues to "The Principles of Communism," which Friedrich Engels wrote, originally as a "Communist Confession of Faith" in 1847, a year before the Manifesto was published with Karl Marx. He and Marx wrote it for the Communist League, which is given as an offshoot of the League of the Just, a revolutionary secret society made up of scattered French radicals and the remnant-in-exile of the Bavarian Illuminati. Join James for this clear look into the foundations of organized Communism and the principles upon which it was organized. Latest from New Discourses Press! Sociognosticism and the Black Magic of Aleksandr Dugin

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 179 As we recently explored, the Russian national socialist Aleksandr Dugin (https://newdiscourses.com/2025/09/the-russian-national-socialism-of-aleksandr-dugin/) is weird. Said to be Vladimir Putin's "brain," an unlikely claim, he has been publishing extremist and fascist philosophy for decades, much of which has been leaking into American right-wing (Woke Right) thought rather substantially in recent years. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay reads from a short, creepy essay Dugin wrote for the Russian National Bolshevik magazine in 1995, titled "The Gnostic," (https://eurasianist-archive.com/2019/03/09/the-gnostic/) in which he makes the explicit case for following "left-hand path" (black, or Satanic) magic. In fact, he links this "magic" to Communism and Fascism and more. In this episode, Lindsay reads Dugin's bizarre essay and explains his concept of sociognosticism that makes sense of it. Join him to learn about this darkness threatening MAGA and American conservatism. Latest from New Discourses Press! Real Communism Can Never Be Tried

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 129 We've all heard it before: "real Communism has never been tried!" Yeah, yeah. Well, here's the thing. "Real Communism" can never be tried, so this old canard isn't saying anything interesting at all. The reason is that "real Communism" is the utopian end state of Communism as an eschatological (end-times) religion. It never actually arrives. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay breaks this simple fact down and reveals the same exact thing is also believed about "real Fascism." You won't want to miss it.
