The father, in the prodigal story, blesses his son and places him in a position of honor upon his return home. He gives him a robe and sandals which distinguishes the son, and he gives his a special feast. In the same way, what Jesus is telling us is that God in heaven has also given us a place of honor because he has clothed us with Jesus. If you are lost and wandering, come home to the love of Christ.
As we continue our study of the Prodigal Son, we look at Jesus’ words about the reaction of the father to seeing his son return home. The father’s reaction tells us a lot about God’s reaction to us. He wants embrace us no matter how far we’ve strayed. He comes to us so we don’t have to wallow in shame. He jumps for joy and celebrates at the sight of us coming home. That’s your God, and that’s how he feels about you. He wants to help you and help has a name…Jesus.
Have you ever done something you regretted? We all have. Today we learn what to do with that regret. Maybe we longed for something more that we couldn’t fulfill so we pursued other things. And when it doesn’t satisfy we end up with regret. Today is about helping us know what to do when we experience that regret.
Do you long to be loved and to share love? We all do, it’s the way we were designed. But for so many people in the world, they chase after lies and emptiness to try and fill that longing instead of turning to the Creator for the all encompassing sacrificial love that only He provides. If you’ve been pursing “things” to try and fill that void in your heart, we ask you to consider turning to God and let Him make your life complete. That’s the story of the Prodigal Son that we will explore over the next 5 weeks.
