https://mikkoschoice.com/ https://stan.store/autumnacresminipetpigs/p/the-complete-pet-pig-resource-library Finding quality veterinary care for a pet pig can be one of the biggest challenges pig owners face. In this episode, Autumn discusses why it can be difficult to find veterinarians who are experienced and comfortable treating pet pigs, and what pig parents can do to prepare. Autumn explains how pet pigs often fall into a unique category between livestock and pets, leaving many veterinary professionals with limited training and experience in pig-specific care. She shares practical tips for finding and evaluating a veterinarian, including important questions to ask, how to assess a clinic's comfort level with pigs, and why building a relationship with a veterinarian before an emergency occurs is so important. Whether you're a new pig parent or have shared your life with pigs for years, this episode provides valuable guidance to help you advocate for your pig's health, build a strong veterinary partnership, and feel more confident when unexpected situations arise. Tony Lombardi from Lombardi Wines is our guest on California Wine Country with Dan Berger and Daedalus Howell. This is his first time on the show. The winery is located in the Petaluma Gap, which we have described in many recent episodes. This episode from 2018 is about the 3rd anniversary of the Petaluma Gap AVA, We start with Chardonnay, which Dan says is in the mold of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, which is an estate in Burgundy, in the Côte d’Or region in east-central France. They produce red and white wines of distinction. If you visit DRC, as it is known, they serve the reds first, then the whites. They believe in the richness and the full-bodied character of Le Montrachet. Dan says that this wine from Lombardi wines has that character which makes it an exciting wine.-•• • --- -•• --- .–. .-California Wine Country is brought to you by Deodora Estate Vineyards. Visit Deodora to discover 72 acres in the Petaluma Gap that produce exceptional Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling. Sip the difference! -•• • --- -•• --- .–. .- The Lombardi Family The Lombardi family has been in Sonoma County since the ’40s. Tony has been a winemaker for 30 years. He grew up in Sebastopol and calls Sonoma County the Garden of Eden. Tony is happy to work with a friend from high school named Mike Sullivan. He got access to a few tons of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Maratella vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Tony only made 8 barrels of this wine. He used one old barrel, seven new ones, and some stainless steel. He fermented different vineyards together, then they went into different barrels. Later he blended them all together. Dan calls it a classic example of a Russian River Valley Chardonnay. It has just a hint of oak. Tony wants the oak to just capture the edges and round it out. You want subtleness and integration, so you you catch a little bit of crème brulée, or lemon curd, or minerality. Dan says, put this wine with the right food and it get better. Tony suggests Dustin Valette’s Scallops en croute. If a Chardonnay is too buttery and oaky, it can overpower the flavors in the food. Dan noticed that Russian River Valley Chardonnay has citrus flavors that contribute to the acidity. It’s something you don’t want to lose in your blending. This vineyard is west of the town of Santa Rosa. It has some inland warmth compared to his place in Petaluma Gap. Next they taste two Pinot Noirs. In Tony’s career he has learned about regions and wines from all over the world. Now he has settled into Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which he likes for their versatility. Every March, he is part of a festival called Pigs and Pinot. Tony can blend a couple of barrels of Gap’s Crown vineyard in with the Russian River Valley fruit.

In this episode of The Pet Pig Podcast, Autumn shares five important things pig owners should do to prepare their pigs for summer weather and prevent heat-related problems. She explains that pigs struggle with heat because they cannot sweat efficiently, making shade and cooling areas essential. Autumn recommends checking pig areas throughout the day to ensure shade remains available as the sun moves, and suggests options like trees, tarps, shade cloths, lean-tos, and covered porches. She also stresses the importance of reliable water access, noting that pigs often flip or spill water bowls. Dehydration can become dangerous quickly in hot weather and may contribute to salt toxicity, so owners should make sure pigs always have access to cool, shaded water. Another major topic is mud and cooling zones. Autumn explains that pigs use mud to regulate body temperature, protect their skin from the sun, repel bugs, and satisfy natural instincts. She shares ideas such as kiddie pools, shallow bins, sprinklers, gentle hose spraying, and homemade mud areas to help pigs stay cool. The episode also covers spring and summer grazing. While pigs enjoy grass, especially sugary spring grass, too much grazing can lead to rapid weight gain. Autumn explains how she carefully manages grazing access and adjusts pellet feeding to maintain healthy body condition and reduce the risk of overheating. Finally, she discusses enrichment during hot weather. Since pigs tend to become less active outside in extreme heat, boredom can lead to destructive behavior indoors. She recommends enrichment activities like rooting boxes, treat hunts, frozen snacks, snuffle mats, cardboard boxes, and blankets to keep pigs mentally stimulated and happy. The episode closes with important heat safety reminders, including warning signs of overheating such as panting, lethargy, weakness, and refusing food. Autumn also explains the dangers of salt toxicity and emphasizes that overheated or dehydrated pigs should be cooled and rehydrated slowly, not all at once. “We must perpetrate the paradox that our American cultural tradition lies in the future.” — Randolph Bourne, via Dominic Erdozain Should Americans be proud of their country? The Anglo-American historian Dominic Erdozain thinks not. His new book, To Love a Country, argues that there's a problem with American patriotism. Americans shouldn't love their country, Erdozain says. It's not a good place. His argument is that American patriotism has the same Puritan root as British imperialism. The idea of a chosen people, a city on the hill, a nation with a special mission is a kind of moral virus. He says it infected America in the great awakenings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and has provided moral cover for slavery, military aggression abroad, and the denial of rights at home. So what America needs, he argues, is a new set of foundational myths laid out by progressives like Jane Addams, Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison and Martin Luther King Jr. This would establish a new kind of American patriotism which is forward-looking and internationalist rather than nativist or exceptionalist. Erdozain even gives Gandhi a shoutout as a model of American patriotism, although one wonders what the Indian pacifist would have made of this. So what will the Atlanta-based Erdozain be doing on July 4? Hiding under his bed, perhaps, rather than enjoying the hotdogs and fireworks. In hiding from hundreds of millions of patriotic Americans. Five Takeaways • The Puritan Root of American Exceptionalism: The idea of America as a chosen people, a city on a hill with a special mission to the world, was not invented in America. It was inherited from English Puritanism. As it spread through the first and second great awakenings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries — what some scholars call the New Englandization of America — it became the canopy under which very different kinds of people sheltered. You didn't have to be a Puritan in any theological sense. You just had to accept the premise that America was righteously exceptional. And once you accepted that, a great deal of scrutiny became unavailable. • Nationalism Is Immune to Failure: One of Erdozain's sharpest observations, via historian Lindsey O'Rourke's work on American interventionism: nationalism can absorb any amount of failure. The defeat in Vietnam, the disaster of Iraq, the failure of Afghanistan — a certain kind of nationalism insulates itself from the lessons these events might teach. It's always someone else's fault. It's always a particular administration's failure, never the national premise. This makes exceptionalism uniquely resistant to the ordinary mechanism of democratic accountability. • Randolph Bourne and the Patriotism of the Future: Erdozain's most original historical recovery: Randolph Bourne, a radical journalist writing during the First World War, who argued that nativism and nationalism were European imports, backward-looking and derivative. Bourne's phrase: “we must perpetrate the paradox that our American cultural tradition lies in the future.” A patriotism faithful to the diversity of modern America — its bustling pluralism, its immigrant energy — cannot be built by looking backward to the founders. It must be built by looking forward to the founders we have not yet had. • Alternative Founders: Addams, Douglass, Garrison, King: Erdozain proposes replacing — or at least supplementing — the canonical founders with a different cast. Jane Addams, who said the question is not what can we teach the bewildered immigrant but what can we learn from them. Frederick Douglass, who held America to account for its foundational promises. William Lloyd Garrison, the abolitionist. Martin Luther King Jr., who went to India to learn about nonviolence from Gandhi. These are the people, Erdozain argues, who offer a patriotism adequate to the diversity and complexity of twenty-first century America. • JFK's Strategy of Peace: The Possibility of Reinvention: Erdozain ends the book with Kennedy's strategy of peace speech at American University in June 1963 — two months before his assassination. By then, Kennedy had come to believe that the impetus for war was coming from within his own country, from his own military and CIA, not from the Soviets. His speech — conceding nothing to communism as an ideology, but immensely generous about the Russian people and about Khrushchev as a leader — is Erdozain's model for what reinvention looks like. The Bay of Pigs taught him something. By the end, he was talking about Vietnam as not America's fight. Lessons can be learned, even in office, even at the last moment. About the Guest Dominic Erdozain is a historian and writer, graduate of Oxford and Cambridge, and visiting professor of history at Emory University in Atlanta. He is the author of To Love a Country: The Problem of Patriotism in America (Crown, June 2, 2026) and One Nation Under Guns. He grew up in Preston, Lancashire, supports Liverpool FC, and lives in Atlanta, Georgia. The Peter Boyles Show - May 23, 2026 HOUR 4: Hour 4 bounced between Colorado politics and Military history. Callers criticized Victor Marx’s campaign style, heavy security presence, and media strategy, while Peter Boyles questioned whether Marx was building long-term personal branding more than a serious gubernatorial run. The second half turned into a deep discussion about JFK, Cuba, the Bay of Pigs, Khrushchev, Vietnam, and public distrust after the Kennedy assassination. Boyles argued the 1960s truly began with JFK’s death and ended with Nixon’s resignation, calling that era a permanent turning point in American political culture.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#132Josh and Mike sit down with Todd Duplechan, chef and co-owner behind Lenoir, Dovetail Pizza, and the newly opened Bonnie's, for a wide-ranging conversation that blends wild kitchen stories with deeper reflections on what it actually means to build a restaurant you love. Todd shares what it's like to operate multiple concepts on the same block in Austin, the lessons learned from opening a bar for the first time, and how redefining roles, expectations, and service can make a restaurant both more sustainable and more enjoyable to run. The conversation dives into the realities of working alongside a spouse for over a decade, the importance of constant iteration, and how small mindset shifts—like designing a space you personally want to spend time in—can fundamentally change a business. The episode also explores the bigger philosophical questions around food: what “authenticity” really means, how history shapes cuisine, and why tradition is often more fluid than we think. Todd breaks down the evolution of Texas food through migration, climate, and culture, challenging the idea that any dish can be frozen in time. Along the way, the conversation touches on restaurant design, sustainability, leadership, and the grind of the industry—before ending with unforgettable (and chaotic) stories from their time working under Chef David Bouley in New York.Links and resources
We mark the 250th anniversary by reading the parts of the Declaration nobody puts on the merch -- Jefferson's criminal charges against a king who blocked western settlement, strangled immigration, and held land promises over men who had bled for them. Then we turn to Cuba, where classified intel says the island has acquired 300+ military drones from Russia and Iran. We go back to the Bay of Pigs to establish the one rule that covers everything that comes next: half measures are always wrong. And we close with the hardest question in the room -- if the Castro regime falls, can the Cubans still on the island actually govern themselves, or does the best argument for a free Cuba walk around Miami? Plus the prediction market corruption story for what it actually is -- not a technology problem, but the oldest compensation trap in the republic.

The pigs are at the trough. Trump's expected overseas real estate income has tripled to $430 million in his second term. Eric Trump is doing deals in China while Taiwan goes unmentioned and Iran keeps arming the people killing Ukrainians and Americans. Nvidia's CEO is being paraded around as the administration floats opening AI chip markets to Beijing. This isn't politics. It's a national security fire sale, and the Angry Middle smells it. This solo briefing connects the dots the legacy press keeps siloed: the foreign income filings, the Saudi-linked licensing deals, the Pentagon trough, Kash Patel's reality-TV FBI tour, and the lesson from Hungary — that corruption, not ideology, is what finally moved Orban's voters. With 45% of Americans now independent and 60% of young people unaffiliated, the rigged two-party system is on notice. The question isn't whether people are furious. It's whether that fury gets channeled into November, into independent veteran candidates, and into the structural reforms — the Raskin list and beyond — that should already be law. -WATCH full video of this episode here. -Join IVA and stand up to Trump's Forever Wars. -Learn more about Paul's work to elect a new generation of independent leaders with Independent Veterans of America. -Learn more about American Veterans for Ukraine here. -Remember Independent is an Attitude. -Learn more about The Headstrong Project for Veterans, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and Department of Veterans Affairs resources in your area. Joe Hennes runs Tough Pigs, the premier Muppet fan site, and for years he also worked at Sesame Workshop -- the dream company he had been writing about since 2006. In this conversation, Joe is unusually candid about what it actually costs to merge fandom and profession. Episode page with video, links, and more: http://markgraban.com/mistake352 He explains why he kept his Sesame job quiet, what changed when he saw "how the sausage is made," and how being laid off from the place he had always wanted to be reshaped his relationship with the work. He also walks through how Tough Pigs broke the Steve Whitmire/Kermit performer story in 2017, why he resists the rah-rah instinct most fan sites default to, and why he thinks the new 50th anniversary Muppet Show special worked when so many recent reinventions did not. Along the way, Joe and Mark get into the marketing miscalculations behind Muppets Most Wanted, the case for more Muppet specials instead of full seasons, and the genuine joy you can see on a celebrity's face when they get to share a chair with Kermit. For leaders, it's a thoughtful look at the cost of fusing identity with employer -- and what it takes to keep enough distance from the things you love to think clearly about them.
