When we don't pay attention to our thoughts, we're often acting from habits that have been strengthened over the years, and which can be difficult to break. The Buddha's teaching on liberation and awakening, the Eightfold Path, also offers us a path to freedom from these habits.  When we intentionally use this path as a roadmap for how we move through the world, we are building a foundation that is strong and serves us in all aspects of our lives. "Mastery Through Love: Transcending Time and Illusion" Time is a trick and an illusion, with figures appearing and disappearing as if by magic. However, behind these appearances is a plan of atonement. At the end of the journey, we imagine and review our mental experiences. David and Marina show the movie Slumdog Millionaire, that follows the main character on a journey of love and mastery through love. This journey is not about fear but mastery through love; we must be willing and ready to achieve mastery. David and Marina emphasize that we are in charge of time and space, and the miracle collapses time for us. We are here to undo the belief in linear time and dispel the trick of thinking there is a world outside ourselves. The greatest gift of all is our identity, created in spirit by God. God's free will is hidden from our awareness, but the only part of God's will that remains is through our willingness to open our hearts and minds and let go of the past. Just Awakening: Yogācāra Social Philosophy in Modern China (Columbia University Press, 2025) uncovers a forgotten philosophy of social democracy inspired by Yogācāra, an ancient, nondualistic Buddhist philosophy that claims everything in the perceptible cosmos is mere consciousness and consists of multiple karmically connected yet bounded lifeworlds. This Yogācāra social philosophy emerged in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries among Chinese intellectuals who struggled against the violent Social Darwinist logic of the survival of the fittest. Its proponents were convinced that the root cause of crisis in both China and the West was epistemic—an unexamined faith in one common, objective world and a subject-object divide. This dualistic paradigm, in their view, had dire consequences, including moral egoism, competition for material wealth, and racial war. Yogācāra insights about plurality, interdependence, and intersubjectivity, however, had the capacity to awaken the world from these deadly dreams. Jessica Zu reconstructs this account of modern Yogācāra philosophy, arguing that it offers new vocabularies with which to reconceptualize equality and freedom. Yogācāra thinking, she shows, diffracts the illusions of individual identity, social categories, and material wealth into aggregated, recurring karmic processes. It then guides the reassembly of a complex society through nonhierarchical, noncoercive, and collaborative actions, sustained by new behavior patterns and modes of thought. Demonstrating why Chinese Buddhist social philosophy offers powerful resources for social justice and liberation today, Just Awakening invites readers to think with modern Yogācāra philosophers about other ways of building egalitarian futures. Jessica X. Zu is assistant professor of religion and East Asian languages and cultures at the University of Southern California, Dornsife. She received her Ph.D. in Religion from Princeton University in 2020, and her Ph.D. in Physics from the Pennsylvania State University in 2003. The Akashic Field isn't some distant library you need to journey to or a separate realm you must learn to access. It's an omnipresent informational field that permeates all of reality. Think of it as the universe's ultimate information network – a living, conscious system that records, stores, and processes every thought, word, action, and event that has ever occurred throughout all of time and space. This isn't a new concept. Throughout human history, various cultures have recognized and interacted with this field, though they've called it by different names. The ancient Hindus referred to it as the Akashic Records, derived from "akasha," meaning "ether" or "space." The Egyptians called it the Hall of Records. Indigenous shamanic traditions worldwide have described ways of accessing universal knowledge through altered states. Even Plato's Theory of Forms suggests a realm of perfect information that our physical reality merely reflects. All of these traditions were pointing to the same fundamental truth: that there exists a field of pure information and consciousness that underlies our physical reality. What makes this activation different from traditional meditation practices is that we're not temporarily altering our state to glimpse this field. We're not learning visualization techniques to momentarily access some distant repository of knowledge. Instead, we're activating neural pathways that allow for a continuous, direct relationship with this living field of information. We're establishing a permanent connection – like installing a direct interface between your consciousness and the universe's own information network.  

In this podcast, learn about the codependent communication struggles no one talks about. In codependency, the focus is usually on keeping the peace, avoiding conflict, and managing someone else's emotions, at the expense of your own truth.
