Today the pugs look at recent events in culture where the 'woke warriors' appear to be at it again, especially in the recent march by immigration activists into an evangelical church worship service. The pugs analyze and speculate a bit about what appears to be going on with the most recent forms woke activism is taking culturally. Today the Pugs discuss whether it matters or not if Francis Bacon was a sincere Christian. His ideas had consequences. In scholarly circles it is a matter of intense debate, but where the rest of us live, it doesn't matter--we're living in the world he helped to create. The Pugs discuss the consequences of "knowledge is power." An article in Tablet magazine discussing the segment of the Gen Z population that is turning to conservative and demanding forms of religious practice provides the jumping off point for this episode. The article suggests that the turn toward rigorous religions comes from a reaction to the chaos of a rootless culture more than from a turn to faith. The guys discuss this idea and its implications for worship and for ministry to Gen Z. Today the Pugs welcome Dr. Scott Masson of Tyndale University onto the show. Scott is an Associate Professor of English and an authority on Romanticism. He also is known for his commitment to a recovery of classical learning. Today Scott reflects on the broken relationship between the humanities and theology and the disastrous consequences for higher education. He notes that this strikes right at the heart of the Christian faith because it separates the divine and human natures of the Son of God. He compares this to the broken sword Aduril from The Lord of the Rings and notes that the right ordering of our loves and the restoration of culture won't occur until the sword is reforged in the West. Tasha interviews Michelle Santoro, associate director of philanthropy for the organization Undue Medical Debt. Every year First Pres gives away 100% of the Christmas Eve offering to an organization that can make positive change in the community. This year, the Christmas Eve offering will go to Undue Medical Debt. In their work, they collect millions of dollars of people's medical debt and work to forgive it. In Sebastian county alone, they can collect $11.5 million in debt and forgive it for only $40,200. This forgiveness would affect 6,800 folks...talk about making a positive change in our community! Watch our socials and listen in worship for more details as we get closer to Christmas Eve and into the new year. How much of the debt can FPC forgive? We. Shall. See. Until then, look into this group for yourself: www.unduemedicaldebt.org

Season One may be over, but our Summer Spotlight Series is on its way! In the months of June-August, First Presbyterian Church of Columbia will be hosting visiting pastors from across the reformed world to speak and preach on a weekly basis - and here at One Another we will be inviting them onto the podcast to introduce themselves and give us insights into their areas of expertise and the state of Christianity in the modern world. We may not get them all, but we look forward to speaking with many of these great leaders! So tune in, even more so if you're not a member of First Pres, to learn more about rising figures of the reformed faith and who we can learn from and look to for wisdom in this modern age.
