We have another thought provoking chapter in Isaiah today.  The lessons of God's dealings with Israel because of their unfaithfulness in the days of the prophet have their lessons for us.  Through the prophet God tells the people, “you have burdened me with your sins, you have wearied me with your iniquities” [43 v.24]Then the next verse jumps out at us!  ”I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and I will not remember your sins.”   The people have been told “ ‘you are my witnesses,' declares the LORD, ‘and I am God.  Also, henceforth I am he; there is none who can deliver from my hand; I work, and who can turn it back?'” [v.12,13]  The continued existence of the people is the work of God.  Although scattered, their miraculous rebirth as a nation and ‘strong' existence over the last 70 years is one of the main witnesses to us of God's purpose, and that these are indeed “the last days.”It is folly for any so-called ‘christian' movement to call themselves God's ‘witnesses.'  But we can be sure of this, the other ‘witness' to the works and wisdom of God, apart from his chosen nation, is his word – and those who carefully and thoughtfully read it – discover more and more  how it comes ‘alive' in their minds as the years pass.We read the final 2 short letters of John, penned it is believed in his old age when false teachings were beginning to emerge, he makes points that are very appropriate to our days. His final letter is written; “To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth “  He tells him [v.3,4] how “I rejoiced greatly” when I heard “you are walking in the truth,” adding, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”God's word unfolds his purposes before us in a way that invites our diligent reading – leading us to the real truth of what we should understand and believe – and the Lord's mercy to sinners – and then to live and to walk with the conviction in our hearts – of that belief.   How challenging to us are Paul's words about “the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for his sake I have suffered the loss of all things … in order than I may gain Christ.” [Phil. 3 v.8]  What are we doing to “gain Christ” – even if it means suffering loss?

Today's Headlines: The Obama Presidential Center officially opened on the South Side of Chicago yesterday — a 19-acre campus with a museum, library, gardens, and a sledding hill — on Juneteenth, the same day Trump signed a worse version of Obama's Iran deal at Versailles, which is the kind of historic irony that writes itself. The Knicks held their ticker tape parade in downtown Manhattan to celebrate their first NBA championship in 53 years, Zohran Mamdani gave them the keys to the city, and Knicks owner James Dolan used his remarks to shade the mayor without naming him. JD Vance spent yesterday claiming Trump would rank at the top of an IQ test against all 45 previous presidents and telling Israel to "wake up and smell the reality" that Trump is their only ally left in the world, which is both a threat and an accurate description of what Trump's Iran deal accomplished. Ukraine hit a major Moscow oil refinery for the second time this week in one of its largest drone attacks of the war, with Zelensky saying the goal is to bring Putin back to the negotiating table and announcing G7 leaders — including the US — reached "unprecedented agreement" on additional air defense support for Ukraine. When we try to justify ourselves by the law, we find ourselves engaged in a colossal exercise in missing the point. Paul put it clearly to Timothy: "Some people have missed the whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions." The simple, profound gospel received by faith is what fills our hearts with love, cleanses our conscience of guilt, and makes us new. Paul reminds Timothy of this central truth: the purpose of this whole instruction—the point—is that believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. This is the real deal. This is the work that God longs to do in us as His Spirit abides in His people: a new heart, a clean conscience, a new life. That's a gift. It's not something to be achieved by mastering the law; the change comes from the Master who abides in us. Through His Spirit, God is reclaiming what was lost. Be certain of this: the power and beauty of the gospel isn't about us mastering the law, but letting the Master master us. When we surrender our hearts, when we let God be God within us, living in the reality of "Christ in you," we are far less likely to miss the love, generosity, and peace that we long for. That life will be yours—and when it is, you'll have something beautiful to offer the world. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk betting for Friday. Dave Essler and Munaf Manji are back with a full Friday MLB betting card on Cash That Ticket, working through four sharply analyzed games before closing with an early look at the 2025 New York Jets win total. The show opens with Milwaukee at Atlanta, where Dave breaks down the remarkable turnaround of the Brewers starting pitcher, who allowed 11 earned runs in April but has surrendered just one total earned run in his last eight starts, including a complete game on 95 pitches. With Martin Perez on the mound for Atlanta, Munaf pulls the historical data showing Perez gave up 14 earned runs and 20 hits across two 2024 starts against Milwaukee. Both hosts find the Brewers run line and the Braves team total under three and a half at minus 145 on DraftKings as the most defensible angles, particularly with Ronald Acuna Jr. absent from the Atlanta lineup. The second game is San Diego at Texas, where Jacob deGrom takes the mound coming off four consecutive starts of two runs or fewer. Dave questions betting behind any pitcher returning from that kind of head injury, and Lugo's home ERA of 4.06 across eight starts reinforces the concern. The Cardinals team total over four and a half is Dave's preferred market, while Munaf goes Cardinals money line at minus 122 on DraftKings as his official best bet for the card, citing McGreevey's strong rotation work and the line movement from minus 115 to minus 122 confirming market direction. The fourth game takes Boston to Seattle, where Ranger Suarez faces Bryce Miller at home. Despite heavy public money on the Mariners, Dave identifies reverse line movement pointing toward sharp Red Sox money and targets the Red Sox first five at plus 104, refusing to touch the full game given the Boston bullpen. A secondary look at the first five over three and a half rounds out the analysis, with Munaf noting Miller's career struggles against Boston totaling 14 earned runs in 15 and a third career innings against the Red Sox.
