On this episode we go a little off brand and have a candid conversation with the Ryan's, co-producers of A Sobering Story. The Ryan;'s discuss what they have learned about Substance Use Disorder (SUD), the importance of having a good team, the difficulties with producing a small budget documentary and the emotional tolls associated with SUD.A huge shout out to everyone that has contributed to this film in any way shape or form. On this episode of A Sobering Podcast we have Jason Herbie Byerly.  Jason is a wonderful man with a huge heart that commands attention when he walks in a room. Jason lost his son Connor to an overdose in 2022. We discuss the grief and mental health struggles he is currently battling with due to his loss. We talk about societal norms associated with grief and loss and how they can be detrimental to those grieving. Words and actions matter to those grieving as much as those struggling with substance use. Jason appears in A Sobering Story where he talks about Connor at length and what a wonderful young man he was. 

Kris shares his story about recovery from the other side. Kris is part of the business community and as such faces different stigma than others. Kris has some interesting stories to share that will open some eyes. We talk about how stigma has affected him and his family, some expectations people have when they start recovery, what substance use does to families and what he is doing to advocate in the community today. Thank you Kris for sharing your story with us. 

Kyle Arnold is a peer support worker in Thunder Bay.Kyle was, is and continues to be Hollywood for all the right reasons in recovery, as he is a pillar in the recovery community and co-star of yhe documentary "A Sobering Story".Kyle shares what it was like to see his face on the silver screen for the first time. We talk about how life can be different and much the same for folks in recovery. Kyle shares about his life in recovery, what his romantic relationship looks like in recovery and what his current relationship looks like with his family.Kyle then flips the script and takes over hosting duties and puts men the HOT SEAT!

Dustin shares how influential sports and family on his road to recovery. Dustin also talks about what recovery is like for those are professionals in the community and in the public eye.We then chat about the difference between codependency and health adult attachment.The chat then shifts to role sports can play from positive team building stance to a toxic male masculinity stance.  Dustin has come a long was a person, father and professional.
