In season 2 episode 2 of The Balanced Bae Podcast, host Allie Gonino sits down with Alexa Smith, undergraduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, to talk about sustainability practices, and the zero-waste movement. What's the zero-waste movement you ask? It's taking collective responsibility for the amount of waste we produce, and changing our habits to align more with the values of recycling, reusing, and reducing our consumption and production. As you may or may not know, the world today is facing a plastic problem like we've never seen. More plastics are getting dumped into the ocean every day, with micro-plastics even seeping into our food supplies. Luckily, there are many products and practices we can implement into our lives to help curb our carbon footprint, support small, sustainable businesses, help the global economy, and protect the environment. It all starts with awareness. Alexa is majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, and just published her first book, ‘Economic Eclipse: Shifting Toward a Sustainable Future by Eliminating Waste', which can be purchased on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1636767052.
