In this episode, Coach Debbi Thomas and I explore the profound effects of sidestepping difficult conversations—and the incredible growth that comes when we lean into them. We unpack how parenting has evolved from “back in the day” to today's hyper-connected world of camera phones and social media. Along the way, we examine how our communication styles shift depending on which family member we're talking to, and why mastering the art of the intentional pause can transform tense moments into opportunities for self-reflection and genuine connection. Tune in as we share practical strategies for embracing discomfort, responding thoughtfully to criticism, and cultivating more authentic, meaningful relationships.
Hi TYP’ers. I’m interstate at the moment, so today we're revisiting one of my favourite chats with Charlie Morley. Enjoy. *“The essence of Buddhism: (1) don’t be a dick (2) be kind to people (3) train your mind” – Charlie Morley (Buddhist Teacher). I didn’t want this episode to end. I loved the chat, loved Charlie and yes, I love my job. Charlie was a drug-taking, hard-living, wild young man who had a NDE (Near Death Experience) and who, through a series of twists and turns, became an internationally renowned Speaker, Lucid Dreaming Expert, best-selling Author (4 books, 15 languages), Teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, Mindfulness Coach and PTSD Expert, producing incredible results with military veterans. If you don’t enjoy this episode, I’ll refund your money. Lol.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week Lauren & Nicole are going on a silent retreat …Shhhhhhhh! Silent retreats are immersive experiences where participants engage in prolonged periods of silence. They are designed to promote introspection, mindfulness, and a deeper connection with oneself, often incorporating practices like mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and nature walks. The absence of verbal communication allows people to detach from the distractions of daily life, creating a greater sense of peace and clarity. To help us this week we enlisted Jo Kaye who is a Mindfulness Coach and Trainer. She hosted the retreat and joins us on the show to unpack the experience with us. In this episode they discuss: Why we are so uncomfortable without distractions What happens when we tune into ourselves The power of slowing down How mindfulness supports our wellbeing. In today's episode of the podcast I talk to Carly Puch, host of the Consciously Clueless Podcast. Carly Jean Puch is a passionate advocate for mindful living, veganism, and environmental sustainability. She hosts the Consciously Clueless podcast, which explores the interconnection between personal health and global well-being through a vegan lens. Carly's mission is to inspire and empower individuals to live compassionately and make collective changes in the world. With a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Women's Studies and a Master's in Social Responsibility, Carly brings a well-rounded perspective to her work. She is a certified 200-hour yoga instructor, Health and Wellness Coach, and Meditation and Mindfulness Coach. Carly currently teaches yoga and mindfulness to both adults and children, sharing her expertise with a diverse audience. In addition to the Consciously Clueless podcast, Carly hosts and produces The Mindfulness Monday podcast, which offers practical tools for incorporating mindfulness into daily life. She also produces The Otterpod, a collaborative project with local middle school students that tackles important global issues from a youth perspective. Carly's approach to veganism and mindful living is inclusive and compassionate. She believes in the interconnectedness of all liberation movements and strives to create a welcoming community for both longtime vegans and those new to the lifestyle. Through her content and coaching, Carly encourages individuals to embrace imperfection while exploring how individual action can make collective change for all. But aside from all her expertise and knowledge, Carly was a gem to talk to, so fun that I know without a doubt she will be a return guest so we can expand these topics even further. In this conversation we talk about how she found veganism in the first place, and navigating this change in a family where the bonding and time shared happened while hunting and fishing. How the patience others had with us, is an important reminder of why we need to have patience with our loved ones too. We talk about mindfulness, anxiety and depression, about navigating the harsh reality of what happens to animals, living in a non vegan world with non vegan friends and family, the big "should I date someone who isn't vegan" question, and finding our own way to advocacy. I had such a fun time with Carly and her enthusiasm is palpable, contagious and invigorating, and I can't wait for you to listen to her and get to know her in what I know will be just one chat of many. Some people embrace practice and coaching in order to be ready for a certain moment, while others train to be fully present in any moment. When it comes to the most important moments, why not both? Amy and Mike invited educators Claire Russell and Aproteem Choudhury to explore how preparation and mindfulness go together. What are five things you will learn in this episode? How do test prep tutoring and mindfulness coaching overlap? What are the primary reasons a student would benefit from mindfulness preparation in test prep? How does mindfulness help students achieve in high-stakes events? How can we help students be more receptive to mind-body strategies? What is one mindfulness tip anyone can implement now? MEET OUR GUESTS Claire Russell is the founder of Russell Tutoring, a boutique, K-college tutoring, test prep, and mindfulness coaching company. Claire has been an educator for 30 years, and she first became interested in mindfulness strategies when she saw students achieve far lower on test day than in their practice work. RTC's Mindfulness Programs have evolved from there, and a third of RTC's tutors are certified mindfulness coaches. RTC invests in mindfulness coaching both because anxiety has become so rampant in our students nationwide, and because Claire has become passionate about self-care as a skill students need for life. Claire is an avid gardener and forever suffers being a fan of the Tottenham Hotspurs. Aproteem Choudhury is a Mindfulness Coach for Russell Tutoring. Apro brings a degree in Neuroscience and extensive clinical and healthcare systems experience to the teaching of mind-body science at RTC. More importantly, he is the Director of the Greater Houston Healing Collaborative at the Institute for Spirituality and Health. At GHHC, he integrates mind-body medicine to promote community health through innovative public health initiatives that are trauma-informed and community-led. At Russell Tutoring, Apro also applies his wealth of experience to empower students, equipping them with stress management skills and resilience-building techniques to optimize their test-taking potential. Claire previously appeared in episode 374 HOW TO BREATHE DURING STRESSFUL ACADEMIC SITUATIONS. Claire and Apro can be reached at https://russelltutoringandconsulting.com. She helpd spiritually minded sensitive souls through critical life events and major life changes such as divorce or break-up, grief and loss, career shifts or retirement, caring for a sick loved one, or significant health challenges and body changes. With a Master's Degree in Teaching, over 20 years' experience in yoga & mindfulness, and a passion for neuroscience and brain & nervous system training, Teri provides a scientific and practical approach to mindfulness and personal growth. Teri's clients emerge from major challenges in life to serve their communities with the wisdom gained from their challenges. Her simple and practical step-by-step integrative mindfulness methodology is unprecedented and is based on decades of practice in anatomy, physiology, neuro-plasticity, linguistics, chakra energetics, yoga, meditation, and ancient indigenous wisdoms. What We Discuss In This Episode Teri explains how her passion for mindfulness coaching developed from overcoming her own health issues and life challenges holistically. Lynne relates this to the struggles many midlife women face in menopause, needing tools beyond medication to address mood, energy, and productivity issues. Teri emphasizes the importance of feeling and healing to process emotions, even if it means lower productivity. Suppressing feelings now will only cause problems later. They discuss embracing the full range of emotions mindfully moment-by-moment to attain elder wisdom. Teri describes her learnings from an indigenous elder about matching energies when communicating to connect deeply as a wise elder. This requires living mindfully to be keenly aware in each interaction. Teri emphasizes learning diaphragmatic breathing as the number one mindfulness and manifestation tool, sharing how breath can shift energy and emotions in yourself and an entire room. Teri offers closing thoughts on maintaining mindfulness and directs listeners to free resources on breathing exercises. To the Christ-focused black women desiring more than prayer, fasting, prayer and worship to heal her anxiety, it's okay. It's okay to feel like what you're doing is not enough.
