Watch this episode on YouTube.I'm so excited to share this new conversation with my good friend, colleague, and guide Quddus Philippe.Quddus is a sound facilitator, psychedelic guide and the founder of Sound Sanctuary Academy. Surrounded by the instruments he calls his “bandmates”, he guides individuals and groups through life-changing sound and psychedelic experiences. He is based in Amsterdam.Originally from humble beginnings in Canada, Quddus started his career as a campus radio DJ and then made a quantum leap, replacing Carson Daly as the host of MTV's iconic show, Total Request Live. Describing his impact, TIME Magazine called Quddus “one of pop culture's foremost tastemakers.”Q has been on quite a journey since then. After exploring the world of personal development and becoming a certified life coach, it was a shamanic training that inspired a more spiritual awakening and the spark to work with sound. Quddus proceeded to study under 3 of the best sound practitioners in the world and now he gets invited by people all over the world to deliver his uniquely empowering journey with sound. What I love most about Quddus is the conviction, audacity, and love with which he pursues his calling and amplifies others doing the same.In this conversation, we explore Q's journey — what it was like for him going from being on TV in front of millions of people to facilitating small, intimate sound ceremonies. We discuss the power of sound, meditation, and psychedelics to open us to our deeper truth and reveal the calling and the power of our souls. We discuss the tension that can exist between soul and scale, and how to approach that tension in a creative, aligned way.And finally, we discuss the path of becoming a shamanic practitioner, what makes a true and trustworthy shaman, how to navigate choosing practitioners that you work with, and in general, demystifying the complex topic of shamanism through the simple lens of “working in service of love.”--If you enjoyed this conversation and are seeking deeper purpose and presence in your life, you'd likely be an amazing fit to join me on The Vision Quest I am leading next month in Southern Arizona. The quest is a weeklong wilderness-based ceremony that helps you travel more deeply within yourself than you have ever been before and get the answers you've been longing for.If Quddus' message about transforming pain into purpose resonates with you, I couldn't recommend The Vision Quest more highly.I feel the same way about guiding quests as Quddus feels about facilitating with sound. This was the journey that fundamentally changed my life for the better ten years ago, when I was depressed, stuck, and lost. There is nothing more fulfilling in the world for me than guiding others on this same journey and witnessing the incredible magic, purpose, and presence it brings into their lives. What gifts and insights will you uncover when it's just you and nature?Check out the full details and apply here: https://soulfulimpact.co/quest--Links & Resources* Follow Brooks on Instagram or LinkedIn* Soulful Impact: soulfulimpact.co* Follow Quddus on Instagram* Sound Sanctuary: soundsanctuary.org* The Creator Incubator: quddus.co/mastermind* Beyul Retreat: beyulretreat.com* New York Times magic mushrooms brain scan article* Get newsletter updates & future episodes delivered to your inbox: Subscribe to Soulful Impact on Substack Get full access to Soulful Impact at www.soulfulimpact.blog/subscribe

What if every student had access to a personal tutor who could help them learn based on customized areas of improvement or subjects of interest? This was the ambitious goal of the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Education. To turn this into reality, they connected with Quddus Pativada, the 20-year-old founder of AI learning firm ASI. Pativada had already developed and tested an AI tutor with the potential to transform how students learn, and was looking for a customer to implement his solution. Rather than trying to block the use of AI in their education system, the UAE is embracing it. Working with ASI and Microsoft, the Ministry is rolling out the AI tutor for all students across the country, providing one-on-one tutoring as a means to modernize and improve learning at all levels. In this episode, we hear from both Quddus and Raghad Aljughaiman, Strategic and Future Planning Advisor at the UAE Ministry of Education, about their ambitious journey toward personalized, AI-assisted learning at scale. In their 1978 song “Who Are You,” The Who asked “who are you? Who, who, who, who,” and in this episode, Adam and Ed ask the same question: who are you… at karaoke? Are you the same person on and off stage? Do you change who you are for different venues, different crowds? The trivia focuses on the same, sort of: artists who have crafted and released music under other personas (the trivia intro songs just keep getting worse and worse). It's all about personal brands and identity in this hour or so. Why the focus on making your mark as a brand or a talent, you ask? Today, the guys talk to Vinnie Potestivo, a man who credits the success in his career as a casting director and brand developer to karaoke–MTV's “Say What Karaoke,” in particular, which kicked off his incredible journey. He shares his experiences there, as well as some great behind-the-scenes karaoke stories from that show and others. Hey, Brave Table fam! I have a MAJOR episode for you. I used to run home to catch this man on Total Request Live (all you Millennials know what I'm talking about). My guest today is Quddus — yup, the TRL host who took over for Carson Daly, the man responsible for getting Kanye West on MTV, and the interviewer of choice for celebrities like Chris Rock and Beyonce — among tons of other accolades and accomplishments like being featured in Vice Magazine, Time, and TedX.    Today, Quddus is a Master Coach, the Founder of The Creator Incubator, and about to write his first book and launch his podcast. We follow the thread that took him from a pop culture icon on our TV screens to a mentor for creatives, artists, and entrepreneurs. Plus, he shares the incredible stories he experienced on his journey (like his aha! moment on live TV with Kanye…) Quddus shows us that when you trust your gut instincts, even when it doesn't make sense at the time, magic happens. I'm certain this conversation will inspire you to follow your intuition, even if it means abandoning the life you've created for one that's more aligned with who you are and what you believe.     What you'll get out of this episode… -  The story of Quddus's intercultural upbringing, his family dynamics, and how he went from being a kid with a passion for music living in Toronto to an international star on MTV -  How to trust your inner voice, even when it means walking away from your current success -  How to have tough conversations and the breakthrough moments they can provide -  Trusting that you will always be in the right place, at exactly the right time - Getting over your imposter syndrome - How to harness the power of social media to create a platform for yourself, and use it for good - The value of staying true to your core values, and not just chasing likes and clicks - Actionable advice to use for your personal brand - Healing through divorce and sudden life changes   If you loved this episode, make sure you check out…    - Visit www.quddus.co for more on his book and podcast, and find Quddus on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/quddus/  - Listen to his Ted Talk and get a behind-the-scenes look at what happened with Kanye https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwTZwp_f5x4 - Trusting your intuition with Daniela Woerner https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daniela-woerner-navigating-divorce-grief-loss-motherhood/id1608226580?i=1000559966091  - More on embracing the duality of emotions https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/solocast-embracing-the-duality-of-our/id1608226580?i=1000565132212  - How to have tough conversations https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ghosting-setting-boundaries-what-does-it-really-say/id1608226580?i=1000558858100  - Check out the book Quddus is reading now https://www.amazon.com/Shoe-Dog-Memoir-Creator-Nike/dp/1501135910 Thanks for listening, and I hope you loved this episode! Vinnie Potestivo is an industry-leading media and talent innovator who is widely known for his inclusive and impactful approach to brand building and personal brand development.  Vinnie was an MTV Talent Exec from from 1998-2007. I was the guy at MTV who helped artists and celebrities claim their brands and their narrative in the original wave of unscripted television. Traditionally, I hired the VJs and scouted the MTV News Correspondents for all of our networks. Then, because of those relationships, I began developing original programming with artists like Ozzy Osbourne and Jessica Jessica Simpson on The Osbournes and Newlyweds. Then with actors like Ashton Kutcher on Punk'd, Nick Cannon on Wild 'n Out, and Wilmer Valderrama on Yo Momma! I'm the guy who put pop royalty in their first tv films when I cast Mandy Moore in 2gether and Beyoncé Knowles in Carmen: A Hip Hopera. With over 25 years of experience, he and his teams have become well-trusted connectors who sell, develop, produce, launch, distribute, and amplify some of the most talked-about original series & talent brands in modern pop culture. Personal brands Vinnie has helped elevate through the use of original content include Mandy Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Tyrese Gibson, Lauren Conrad, Diane von Furstenberg, Rob Lowe, Danielle Fishel, Peter Thomas Roth, Kelly Osbourne, Kristin Cavallari, Nasir “Nas” Jones, Molly Sims, Vanessa Lachey, Susie Castillo, Damien Fahey, Quddus, Suchin Pak, Gideon Yago, Will.i.am, Ebro, DJ Clue, LaLa Anthony, Hilary Duff, and Leah McSweeney among others. A conversation with Vinnie guides us to the fact that there is a process to being a successful recognized creative. That the notion of an overnight success is quite wrong. He shares the most insightful tips to help navigate the waters of a recognized creative. Vinnie insists that artists have to realize that awards are so important. And they are not just handed out randomly they need to be applied for. This means that you need to believe in your work enough and want to apply for an award. Be it the Oscars, the Emmys, or whatever award given to recognize you as a creative. Secondly, credits are equally as important. He observes that there is so much shame as a creative involved in asking for credit credits. And insists that you have to ask for an executive producer credit. Take credit for your podcast and create credit, for your podcast as well. The importance of credit sort of formalizes your production company. Second, It allows you to tag guests, which is a great way for discoverability Third, build a team so that even when you are asking for that recognition there are people who deserve it as well in that collaborative effort. So, it made it easy for him to show up and ask for an award for himself and his team to know that they all won together. And so that we reconcile the personal creative platform vision that we have for our work with the thought that if nobody sees it, then you didn't get your message out. Overall, Vinne gives creatives an amazing do list of valuable tips and tricks. From today's chat, we learn that as creatives we should take credit for our work, enter some awards, and find some collaborators, but also Vinne has encouraged us to tap into that inner mindset that inner creativity takes faith in our work. Quddus shared why we are all “influencers” in our own circles of influence and why he is committed to leading himself and others to step up and embrace their journey, even when life doesn't go as planned.Episode Topic3:20 | Quddus & Trevor discuss why podcasting is so special and authentic7:51 | Quddus explains who he is and the journey he's taken to find his calling11:06 | Quddus challenges the concept of “right path vs wrong path” in life14:11 | Why you shouldn't try to be the middle point of Oprah & Ryan Seacrest15:33 | Trevor explains how a guy in a gratitude bus motivated him to start this show18:00 | Quddus talks about how we often look for external permission to move forward19:20 | Quddus reflects on his “identity” as a celebrity and how he evolved over a decade21:38 | Quddus speaks about the moment that “experiential transformation” changed his life25:30 | Why we're seeing a shift in talking about “mental health” and what it means to be a man27:48 | How you can make a difference in the world by focusing on your circle of influence29:56 | Why focusing on destination without enjoying the journey will leave you feeling empty33:22 | Quddus spoke about why he created his TedX talk - “Do we need media rehab?”Episode Quotes“All roads can lead to Rome. Our experience of life doesn't have a lot to do with the destination. It's less about the journey or the destination...it's more about the company that you're with along the way” - Quddus“Having girls scream my name and put their fingers through my hair was great for my ego, but was it fulfilling? No.  It's like eating a bag of candy. It's really sweet for a second and then you feel like shit” - Quddus “When we think about what authenticity is, it's not being the middle point of Ryan Seacrest and Oprah, it's being Quddus” - Quddus“What we all do so much of in this world is we look at each other's social media and we start to measure ourselves, compare ourselves and be like other people because they're successful and we think we need to pretzel into who they are in order to be successful too” - Quddus“Now when I get on camera, I'm very clear about who my authentic self is and what my intention is. Before the trainings, I was a hologram.  I was a projection of who I thought I should be for the world” - Quddus“Often times we think about our circle of concern (in the world) which is huge. When we bring it down to the circle of influence that we have and can actually make a difference with, then it becomes a less overwhelming conversation” - QuddusEpisode ResourcesWhat happened to MTV VJ Quddus (Vice article)Do we need media rehab? Todays episode is a little different than my other episodes. While most of my episodes are comedy ,todays episode is a more serious discussion that I think is really important for everyone to keep having. The comedy I write is based on the things we are doing all day every day as people that we are not even paying attention to, and the things we do on social media is not an exception to that. In fact, the topics of most of my videos and many of the topics on this podcast are based on social media. For as comedic as it is, if we can be completely honest there's also a bit of a dark side to social media. And I wanted to let you know you are not alone in thinking that.  Please join me and my amazing guest, Quddus, TV host, media coach and author of the method, as we discuss the pitfalls of social media.   Some of you may know Quddus Philippe from his early years as a VJ on MTV's TRL.  These days, he and his partner in life and love, Carmina, are cofounders of a personal development and media training company called Camera Ready.  When I first sat down with Quddus, I didn't really know where the interview would go.  He's a super fascinating guy with so much charisma and so many riveting stories, that I just left it wide open.  But as the conversation unfolded and he shared things like navigating sexuality as a young tv star to moving past childhood trauma so that he could cultivate more depth and sensuality in his marriage, it became clear that our conversation would, in some sense, encapsulate a widely relatable journey towards modern manhood. You can follow Quddus on Instagram at @quddus, and his company Camera Ready at @cameraready.   For more stories, insights, and events around all things love and sex, go to lovetouchpoint.com or @lovetouchpoint.
