Friends since 1984, Bob was the Best Man at Jeff’s wedding in 1994, and in 2002, Jeff returned the favor and stood up for Bob. And today, they’re Best Men Trivia! Trivia players for a decade, they moved into hosting and all roads have led to this audio ar
What a year it's been!! NJ cracked down on breweries hosting events, so we took some time off but we're back at Glenbrook Brewery for our Second Anniversary show which is all about NEW JERSEY and we were thrilled to have Mike Ham from the Greetings from the Garden State podcast cohosting along with us. Just Jersey was also in the house with a pop-up shop and an awesome first prize! We had bonus questions in every round and a competitive game! Play along in your car, boat, bus or RV! Twenty-three teams travelled from Margate to Edgewater accepting questions about Lucy the Elephant, Cop Land, shopping malls, concert halls, ivy walls and "...the Cruisers for the nasty stuff." Lunch Lady Disco Fries had a perfect Round 5 to clinch first place with 59 points as well as providing us with some primo answer sheet art. There was a tie between The Amboys Are Back in Town and Uncle Tom's River, and TAABIT guessed closest to the number of episodes of Greetings from the Garden State (86 so far!) to break the tie and come in second with 57 points to UTR's 56. See you around!
It was everything an anniversary celebration should be. Surrounded by friends, old and new, baked goods and beer - our 52nd (or so) game in Morristown was a great night out. We had a music round and a connection round and a couple rounds of questions we asked over the past year. It was great fun and we're glad to have played a part in the success of our local hangout and given some folks something to do on a Wednesday night. We can't thank everyone enough for their support. Special thanks to Jeff's wife for festively tricking out the table with treats and decorations. And on this Wednesday night, 17 teams came together to eat Hostess cakes and answer questions and Lunch Lady Gremlin took home the top prize - $30 to @glenbrookbrewery and $30 to Grasshopper off the Green in Morristown , while Crusty Cooties took home second place with Pen Pineapple Apple Pen swinging in third. Jeff and Cookie are back next Wednesday for more thinking while you're drinking.
On a rainy night, 14 teams came in from the weather, 13 remained and 3 walked out a little richer than when they walked in. Jeff was out this week and Cookie was upgraded from guest host to "Maid of Honor!" Lively game, much cheering, some drama around the days in the summer months but it all worked out. Congrats to "Gremlin Lady Fantasy" for besting teams who are no stranger to the winners circle - "We're Supposed to be Having Fun" and "Nothing Really Matters" Thanks this week to @pomodoromorristown for sponsoring the top prize. We're back next Wednesday for our One Year Anniversary Spectacular which is just more thinking while you're drinking (and some extra giveaways).
22 teams started, 18 finished, but only "Does Anybody Really Care?" won the $30 gift card and Sparky Lyle Flight Bat + 4 Somerset Patriots Baseball tickets. We had a tie for second place, and "Wait.. What?" won half a point for guessing closest to the run time of Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, leaving newly blended team, "Lady Gremlin Fantasy", to take home third. I had a great guest co-host tonight - @trumbullcomic - and together we got thru the game relatively unscathed! Bob is back next week with Cookie as Jeff is off in the Catskills again making noise at @shadowlandstages
We had 23 teams tonight?! Namaste Or Should I Go came out on top and we had to go to a tie breaker for 2nd and 3rd and Bill and Sam's Excellent Adventure guessed the running time of The Batman a minute closer than Ninja Tupperware Party did to nab second. We're back next Wednesday for more thinking while you're drinking.
Jeff forgot to plug in the line out into the digital recorder, so our file was 2 hours of digital silence. Here's a slight placeholder in case Jeff and Bob decide to reccord an episode in its place. The music is LaundryOnTheWire.mp3 released into the public domain by HoliznaC00.
Bob was out tonight, so Cookie filled in which was great because we started with 20 teams! Eighteen teams finished but only three could enter the winners circle. Congrats to Lunch Lady Fantasy who maintained a one-point lead over Wait...What? to capture first place. We had a three way tie for third between The Team Next To Us Cheats, Green Wave and a Swig and a Miss. TTNYUC guessed the closest without going over "what's the runtime for the longest Star Wars movie" (Last Jedi runs 152 minutes) with 147 - everyone else went over by guessing in the 160s. Top prize was a $30 gift certificate to Glenbrook Brewery and a Sparky Lyle autographed flight bat with glasses and 4 tickets to see Somerset Patriots Baseball . If you missed this week's game in person, you can catch an audio replay posted Thursday night (usually) on our website (link in bio) or in your favorite podcast client. Jeff is out of town on business next week, so Cookie is back with Bob next Wednesday for more thinking while you're drinking.
A bunch of new faces looked on the bright side of life and converged becoming 19 teams battling it out tonight for another chance at four tickets to see the Somerset Patriots and the 30-dollar gift certificate to our favorite local brewery. We played a music round focused on the "middle eight" along with a smattering of Monty Python questions, which made for a tight game, with the to three dividers separated by one point each. Swig and a Miss took first place with 49 points; You Can Text Me Al put up 48 and Namaste Or Should I Go? rounded out the top 3 with 47 points. Visit our website for the visual clues and scoring breakdowns.
19 teams channeled the Force and came out to compete. We had a super-sized game of 6 rounds with 9 questions each, lots of visuals (visit the website) and a tie breaker to end the night with old friends and teammates pitted against each other in a head-to-head smackdown naming the 15 characters who racked up the most appearances in a Star Wars live action movie.
Our recording levels were set too high. I did the best I could, but this isn't a great sounding episode. We had a packed house - 16 teams with a lot of 8 person teams this week. We had a super-sized Round 3 - 8 general trivia questions and a 8 song quick-fire music round combined. As usual, visit our website for visual clues and other goodies.
We had a special game this week - an EMP knocked out our digital recorder for the first half of round one, so Bob and I had to re-record the opening of the game. We also had a guest writer - Rick from Locomotive Breath presented us with a sheaf of legal pad pages with a whole game's worth of questions, so we took the week off from writing and let 18 teams compete playing Rick's deck. It was a harder game than most, but still pretty fun. As always, go to our website for the visual clues.
Bob was on vacation, so we had Cookie sitting in with Jeff for this week's game. We had a departure in that we had a completely audio round (which may end up 10 minutes of silence on the YouTube feed. ;-) ) which was a big success. We had another tie breaker, and this week we asked the teams to name any of the Most Popular Dog Breeds of 2021 as per the American Kennel Club. This proved to be a little bit of a challenge, and we only got 5 or 6 breeds in before a winner was declared. As always, visit the website for the visual slides and other stuff.
An epic game with a tiebreaker round. 14 teams played and we got to go to a tiebreaker round! We had a mix of anagrams and visual clues between rounds. More than a couple before-and-afters and callbacks this week. As always, play along and let us know how you did! Visual clues at our website: https://bestmentrivia.com/podcast
Great vibe at tonight's game. Lots of crowd interaction, good mix of question levels. A higher scoring game than last week's. As always, head to our website for the visual slides and scores. Let us know how you did!
In this episode, the recorder's batteries crapped out in the break between Round 3's questions and answers and Jeff didn't notice until just before Round 5, so Jeff and Bob re-recorded the Round 3 answers and all of Round 4 on Saturday. This was a pretty low-scoring game, so it might have been our most challenging? Visual clues and show notes: https://www.bestmentrivia.com/2022/03/26/episode-06-23-march-2022/
Did Lunch Lady Fantasy win three in a row? Did Bob and Jeff finish the #hotoneschallenge? Did Jeff botch an answer in Round Five resulting in a recount? Only one way to find out! Show notes and visual clues at https://www.bestmentrivia.com/2022/03/20/episode-05-16-march-2022/
A low key episode after some snow with 12 teams competing. Bob and Jeff did the #hotoneschallenge during the game, making it part way before running out of time; the challenge will complete next week! Show notes at our website, https://www.bestmentrivia.com
