Summary When you've arrived at a new anchorage, how do you figure out how to find necessities? Especially if you're out of range of The Boat Galley cruising guides? After all, there are places where cruising guides don't exist. Luckily I have a great resource to share.  Cruising is more than dolphins and beautiful sunsets. Sometimes, you gotta get stuff done, like buying groceries or diesel. Or maybe you're just craving a restaurant meal or want a fun day off the boat.  You have a few options for finding information. You can read guides and hope the information isn't out of date. You can review Google Maps. You can even dinghy around to other boaters and ask. They're all helpful resources. And the last might even introduce you to a new friend. We rely on the app NoForeignLand.com. No information is hidden behind a paywall. There are no pop-up ads. You can support them on Patreon. But they don't sell user's information. Social features include tracking other boats. Information is provided by cruisers for cruisers. Captain Paul Watson is a marine wildlife conservation and environmental activist. Watson was one of the foundingmembers and directors of Greenpeace. Rhode Island's multi-platinum John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band, will be celebrating 50+ years in the business with the release of "Sound of Waves," a new 13 song album, their first in 37 years. In 1982, John Cafferty was commissioned to write and perform the soundtrack for a film that turned out to be "Eddie and the Cruisers,' a rock cult classic with a triple platinum soundtrack. Cafferty's soulful, raspy voice propelled the movie's theme "On the Dark Side" to # 1 on the Billboard Rock charts and the MTV video charts, while the movie's second hit "Tender Years" rose into the Top 10 of the Billboard AC charts. Today John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band continue to tour around the world. That tour will bring them to NYC for an album release concert at the Cutting Room on Thursday, April 10th, the same date as the album release, from Moonstone Music. According to Cafferty, the new album almost didn't happen. After almost four decades of not writing and recording new music, he was encouraged by Bruce Springsteen to do it again. Over the years, Cafferty and company have jammed on stage with many of the greats of rock and roll, including Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Dion, and opened on tour with the Beach Boys, Foreigner, and Bryan Adams. Starting May 28th, Cafferty joins Rick Springfield on his "I Want My 80s Tour" for selected dates, along with John Waite and Wang Chung."The 'Sound of Waves' album is a celebration of a lifetime legacy as musicians and 50+ years as a band. The songs are newly written with a respectful reflection of colors from an era of music's diverse history and the precious life moments and loving relationships that have served as our hearts' inspiration," said Cafferty. The title track from the group's 1985 album, "Tough All Over" became their second # 1 on the Billboard Rock Charts and the song "C-I-T-Y" reached the Billboard Top 20. Before he became the bass player for Donnie Iris and Cruisers in 1992, Paul Goll played in Erie bands like The Web of Sound, Anacrusis, and Real To Reel in the 1960s and 1970s. In the 1970s he left Erie for Florida and toured up and down the East Coast with his band Powerglide for over a decade before returning to Erie to Play in Mr. Gone. Throughout those years, he has played with some of Erie's finest rock-and-roll musicians, and he still gets to play with his long-time friend Marty Lee in Donnie Iris's band. Thanks to the JPT Foundation for sponsoring the Erie Music History Podcast. The goal of the foundation is to provide education scholarships to grade school-age children as well as annual giving to local organizations and charities. With the Japanese taking control around the Pacific in early 1941, it became apparent that more resources and ships would be needed if there was any hope to defend against and defeat those forces. It was determined that several previously manufactured vessels could be converted to better suit the needs for this type of warfare. This is why a Cleveland class light cruiser was turned into an aircraft carrier, becoming the USS Princeton (nicknamed “Sweet P”). From humble beginnings it had incredible exploits in the Pacific Theater of World War II. In this episode we explore what life was like aboard this vessel from the people who were aboard, ” detailing various battles in the campaign against the Japanese, every day decisions, and technical aspects of such a ship.
