Welcome to Porgy and Bess in the 21st Century with my guest Aaron Reeder. So here's a little bit about Aaron Reeder.   Entrepreneur, researcher, performer, educator: All of these could be on Aaron Reeder’s business card, but he prefers to call himself an ARTrepreneur (Artist + Entrepreneur = ARTrepreneur.) Engaged professionally in theaters, opera houses, museums and educational institutions around the world in the capacity of facilitator, lecturer and performer, Reeder is exceptionally skilled at combining his very different fields of study and interests –music, collaboration, marketing, and history -- into one profession. Beginning in 2014, Reeder was on roster with the US State Department’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs’ Cultural Programs Division as an Arts Envoy and speaker. Implementing and delivering coordinated arts integrated programs for schools and organizations his work has been described as, “art [that] helps other people find their own voice and means of creative expression”.   Whoa okay!!!  We discuss the latest revival of, Porgy and Bess at the Metropolitan Opera, NYC. and all the stuff that goes with it!  We talk about the history of the piece, racism, and the cultural shift that is taking place in the world of opera.     Please enjoy!

My rant over the fact that Trump decided to have a rally on Juneteenth, and in the middle of Black Wall Street, Tulsa, OK. 1921 Black Wall Street was burned to the ground by white supremacists.  Why?  Why not because they did and can.   #icantbreathecoalition

In 1967, the landmark case of Loving vs. Virginia.  The decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that laws banning interracial marriage violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.    I got to sit down with my sis, Rose Stephens Greger and we talk about the life in a interracial marriage which both of us are in.  We talk about how we fell in love, how we deal with the general public and the best part, tasing our kids who are both only children.  If it weren't for the Lovings.  I don't think we would have made the progress we have made, but we have a long way to go.   Happy Loving Day!
