Edward comes from a ministerial family and is a fourth-generation preacher in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). He has pastored for 29 years and serves as the Assistant to the Bishop of the Washington DC Jurisdiction COGIC. Pastor Edward is a family man, married for 39 years with children and grandchildren whom he loves dearly. Coming from a family with a rich legacy, Pastor Edward knows a few things about family traditions...but he’s also not afraid to switch it up. He’s the perfect guest to share in this conversation. We all want to be heard. We all want to be understood. Sometimes, however, despite our best intentions, we just don't quite get it when we hear about the plight or experiences of others. We all have different backgrounds and experiences. To empathize with someone is to feel for them, but it doesn't mean you have to own their feelings. Empathizing also doesn't mean that you're guilty. It just means you see someone in pain and you care. In this day and age, empathy is hard to come by. Mama VJ and I talk about it today in a real heart to heart discussion. Enjoy! Parenting is one of the most difficult, and rewarding things you’ll ever experience. It’s not difficult because of the kids, it’s difficult because of all the stuff you wish you could shield your kids from. So what do we do as parents? We lie! It's back to school time and today mom and I are talking about shifting our mindset in this virtual school environment. But as always, the conversation doesn't just stick to issues surrounding back to school and the new normal COVID-19 has created for parents and kids.
