To give my podcast some natural progression, I'm delving back through my archives for 2 or 3 old mixes. Hopefully this will show where my style developed from and eventually, where it's going.

    Podcast 003: raison d'etre [2006]

Episode 3 is an Ableton Live mix I recorded in 2006. I got addicted to the program at the time and wanted to utilise it's potential for performing a "live" mix. Musically the set covers the full spectrum of the "minimal" sound. There's House and Techno shades, some minimal electro and some richer "maximal" sounds towards the end. The final mix was performed live in one take but months of preparation went into the set. There are hundreds of loops and samples which were derived from the original records. Using the large array of loops and samples alongside the original tracks, I managed to produce numerous live remixes and re-edits. It's a very creative mix compared with your standard DJ set. At some points there are 6 channels of audio playing so this set differs hugely to other "live" sets where Ableton is only used to beat match 2 records together.

Following on with an older mix from the "archive" here is "Miniature Mix". This was originally recorded as entry for a DJ comp, in 2005. It sums up my style at the time and again the same clubs and DJs were influencing me then, as were 2 years earlier with my first podcast. It's stripped-down, underground house music with a darker edge. There are shades of deep house, electro, tech, tribal, acid and of course a few of the housier "minimal" tracks thrown into the mix. You'll hear the first release from "Louderbach" aka Troy Pierce and tracks from the following; James Falvour, Audio Werner, Someone Else, Onur Ozer, Gui Borratto, Ellen Alien, Falko Brockseiper, Lindstrom, Superpitcher, Justin Martin, Sten & more! It's recorded live using: 2 x Technics 1200's, 1 x Allen & Heath Xone:32 mixer, 1 x CDJ1000 and my brand new (at the time) Pioneer EFX:1000! There's feedback loops, FX and 3 deck mixing. Tuck in!

    Podcast 001: Ash Gardens [2003]

To mark the beginning of my new podcast series I've decided to offer up a DJ mix I recorded way back in 2003. "Ash Gardens" was the name of the street I lived on in Headingley during my first year at uni in 03/04. My musical influences at the time were parties such as Technique, Asylum and Basics. This shows in my track selection. You can see some "minimal" influences creeping in with Villalobos' track "Easy Lee" and some tech house courtesy of Steve Bug with "Okoubaka" as well as some Basics style dubby acidic house from The Lip Trick (Si Baker). There is also a few electro tracks in there such as "Come In To My Kitchen" by Joakim. The mix was recorded using 2 x 1200's, 1 x CDJ1000, 1 x Allen & Heath Xone:32 and an EFX500 FX unit..... ENJOY
