Techno-philosopher Eliezer Yudkowsky recently went on Ezra Klein's podcast to argue that if we continue on our path toward superintelligent AI, these machines will destroy humanity. In this episode, Cal responds to Yudkowsky's argument point by point, concluding with a more general claim that these general styles of discussions suffer from what he calls “the philosopher's fallacy,” and are distracting us from real problems with AI that are actually afflicting us right now. He then answers listener questions about AI, responds to listener comments from an earlier AI episode, and ends by discussing Alpha schools, which claim to use AI to 2x the speed of education. Below are the questions covered in today's episode (with their timestamps). Get your questions answered by Cal! This week we're blessed to welcome a true legend of the techno game with Rolando taking over RYC waves for a two-hour jaunt into otherworldly floor narratives and lushly-forested sonic landscapes. Now operating out of Edinburgh, the former Underground Resistance member - forever associated with the timeless classic ‘Knights of the Jaguar' - has laid the foundation to a ceaselessly compelling body of work, including key releases on Ostgut Ton, Delsin and his own imprint, R3. Championing a sound most entrancingly dynamic, largely informed by groove, jazz and Latin percussions, Rolando graces us with a mix that combines the finest of his signature mystic-imbued vision and sixth sense for crafting some of the most memorable club experiences to be had. Tapping in his love for polyamorous Detroit techno and house combinations, mostly leaning into the more soulful side of his hometown's heritage rather than the industrial edge, Rolando embarks us on a ride across shape-shifting technoid boogie reliefs and further uncharted routes. Brace yourselves for some of the lushest, most immersive and distinctive techno heroics around.

The two dive deep into Mark's journey as a full-time YouTuber, his brand-new Area RC warehouse project, and how he's helping newcomers find their way into RC racing through innovative events and creative content. Mark talks about leaving the IT world to pursue YouTube full-time, the vision behind Area RC — a 5,000 sq ft “RC Fantasy Factory” where fun, accessibility, and creativity come first — and how his MSM Southern Showdown and True Street Drag Series are redefining entry-level RC racing. They also dig into broader industry topics like burnout, event economics, and the ongoing debate between bashing vs. racing. The conversation highlights how RTR cars, brands like Traxxas, Losi, and Techno, and media creators all play key roles in growing the hobby. If you love RC, whether it's nitro, electric, racing, crawling, or bashing in the backyard, this is a must-listen conversation about the passion, grind, and innovation driving the RC world forward.
This month we are honored to be joined by Georgia de Leeuw who is a post-doctoral researcher in Human Rights Studies at Lund University. Georgia's research has focused on Swedish mining and steel transition, in which steel is produced with hydrogen instead of coal. We start the conversation talking about Swedish exceptionalism and what this means in relation to mining. This opens into a more general discussion of the colonial project and how it has played out in the Nordic context. Within the Nordic context, while colonialism did not often include crossing an ocean, there has still been intense colonial activity in the north and continuing violations of Indigenous rights. We then continue into discussing the role of techno optimism and how extractivism is framed by industry as a positive project, something that is required for development and survival. Georgia looks at advocates and resistance to mining and green steel through the lens of psychoanalysis. Join us for this amazing conversation!Would you like to learn more about Georgia's work? https://portal.research.lu.se/en/persons/georgia-de-leeuwArtists and other resources mentioned in the show:Reindeer herder and co-author of forthcoming article: Rickard Länta, leading figure in the Sami resistance against mining in Jåhkågasska reindeer herding communityAuthors:Elin Anna Labba, Ann-Helén LaestadiusMovies:Stolen (2024) accessible on Neflix, based on the book by Ann-Helen LaestadiusLet the River Flow (2023)Artists: Anders Sunna, Timimie Märak and Maxida Märak, Sofia Jannok
