Here are some funk treats as I always do. This time you get to hear my sexy voice. No, I'm not high, but my tempo is slow. Anyhoo, this is the first installment of a series I want to do called Funk Sundays, which may perhaps end up in a venue here in Denver. I'm tryin' to spread the word via podcasts first and see what I get. These tracks are standards for the most part, something I don't mind. I tell you the track list in the cast, so don't email me about what the tracks are. I'm not a turntablist nor do I claim to have obscure records. I like to play what I enjoy and as I acquire more goods I will play them. I guess you could say I'm a novice collector. I just dig vinyl and old music, go fuck yourself. Besides fucking yourself, if you're in the Denver area, let me know if you'd be interested in a funk night. Of course there'll be soul too, but I concentrate my energy on funkiness and dabble in soul (the distinction can be contentious at times). Just enjoy.
After long neglect, I'm back with a 30 minute funky disco mix. There are some rough spots in the mix, but I don't give a fu--. It's all vinyl sampling a few different genres of funky disco. There's some pop disco in there as well as some obscure tracks. As a quick note, I've had trouble with this genre for just the simple fact that disco killed the funk scene. I've avoided dipping into it for just that reason, a sort of resentment I guess you could say. However, despite my attempt to ignore it, there would always appear a pretty funky style of disco on flipsides to some funk tracks I would buy. So, inadvertently I collected disco. After I realized there were some pretty funky tracks I started to pick up one or two here and there. Here is the collection that quietly accumulated in my crates. If you would to know any names of tracks and artists just send me a note and I will get back to you. I don't like making track listings but I'm not against letting ya know what's what. Lates.
Here are six tracks for 17 minutes of Funk and Soul. I'm tryin' to get motivated again to play, so this here is a simple mix to promote myself and hopefully start playin' every now and again around Denver. Tracks include in order of appearance: "I Heard That!!" - Quincy Jones, "Baby Let Me Take You" - Detroit Emeralds, "Distant" - A Taste Of Honey, "Spellbound" - The Bar-Kays, "Sittin' On A Time Bomb" - Honey Cone, "Pain" - Ohio Players. Thanks for listening and spread the good word. Jace
This is the first part of my set at Chit Chat in Denver, Co on May 5th. Enjoy.
60's and 70's funk with David Axelrod's funk first. It ends with Breakestra, so I sample a wide variety of funk. Have fun.
