Welcome to the 2022 holiday episode of Sex + Whiskey. Our hosts Nikki and RJ will sip on a dram of the good stuff, while discussing the more exciting stuff. They will take you on a journey, exploring whiskeys from around the world, while also educating you on the birds and the bees, especially correcting what school or your parents missed on. Their goal is to promote a safe and fun environment, that will leave you empowered and educated on your next bedroom adventure. Similar to the previous Ask Us Anything episode, we join Nikki - who is not Santa's elf, and RJ - who is not Santa, as they check off their own Naughty / Nice list in their Holiday Mailbag Special. Spoiler Alert: Nikki was very naughty. Multiple people submitted questions about relationships, sex, and shenanigans, and more, all ranging from very naughty to nice – and confessions for this episode. Of course, RJ and Nikki drink a bit too much of their holiday beverages and attempt to answer what they can in a coherent manner while spilling a few personal secrets. As the last episode of 2022, our co-hosts want to express their gratitude for their listeners and sincerely thank them for following along this year. Sex + Whiskey's first episode premiered in March and was all about communication, consent, and contraception and set the tone for the year. Their goal was to have some fun as they drank and chatted about sex-education - while navigating some serious topics and sincerely expressing themselves – and the plan for 2023 is to do more of the same. They would love to hear from you. Questions, comments, suggestions on future episodes are all welcome. Find them at sexandwhiskeyGC@gmail.com. Happy Holidays, Merry Kinkmas, and Happy Fistmas! However you celebrate the end of this very chaotic year, we truly wish you a wonderful 2023. Cheers. Nikki & RJ xo
In this episode of Sex + Whiskey, Nikki and RJ explore “kinky” as an umbrella term for a variety of sexual behaviors frequently shamed and considered outside the norm, differentiate between kinky versus fetishes, define several specific kinks, touch on the world of BDSM (bondage, domination, discipline, sadism, submission, masochism) and power dynamics. What is kink? For many, it is the opposite of Vanilla sex (check out our previous episode on vanilla sex!), but the world of kink encompasses plenty of behaviors folks would consider vanilla. And plenty of partners engage in “kinky” activities as their vanilla sex standard, including spankings, light bondage, and more. Most importantly, this episode highlights the need for communication and boundaries, not pushing a partner into uncomfortable scenarios, and how consent plays a role in kinky activities – especially the power dynamics explored in BDSM. For anybody interested in exploring their kinky side and learning more, Nikki highly recommends checking out KinkAcademy.com for resources.
Vanilla sex is a phrase that surrounds the type of sexual interaction that would be determined 'typical' for the persons that are involved in the activity. Everyone is going to have their own interpretation, and luckily there is a great article that covers more into it, but for right now, we will go with the most straightforward idea. It is an act of comfort and intimacy between you and your sexual partner, unfortunately, the term has been burdened with negative language. Prude, dullish, or by-the-numbers sex is oft alluded to when discussing this term, but fret not, because nothing could further from the truth. Our episode highlights these falsehoods and exposes them as simple barriers to a happy and healthy consensual relationship. There is nothing shameful or wrong about "Vanilla sex" and to think so only propagates a damaging stereotype. Rather the idea itself is the pinnacle of a solid foundation between sexual partners, and something most relationships seek as an aspiration. Take your time and examine this new episode because, who knows, Vanilla might be your new flavor.
Welcome back to the fifth episode of ‘Sex + Whiskey: An Educational Series,' a GateCrashers podcast! This week they are joined by special guest Elle Daniel, as they help navigate ways to protect your bodily autonomy and making the informed choices for your future! ELLE Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reproductive healthcare such as abortions, STI testing, birth control access, HIV services, and even cancer screenings. On top of healthcare, Planned Parenthood also shares sex education and information to help as many people as possible be informed and make smart, safe decisions about their body and sex! One of these ways they provide information is through their Teen Council program, a peer-led sex education group, where high schoolers volunteer to learn about comprehensive sex education, and then teach it in their own classrooms to their fellow classmates! For the last two years of my high school career, I participated in Teen Council, teaching about consent, birth control, and STI's. I visited multiple schools, answered questions, and debunked myths about sexual health! NIKKI With the Supreme Court and states stripping people of access to safe abortion, many may be turning towards surgical sterilization options. People with a uterus have two options for sterilization, which is a permanent form of pregnancy prevention. The most prominent procedure is tubal ligation, where a piece of both fallopian tubes are removed, closed, or cut. A bilateral salpingectomy completely removes the fallopian tubes. As a refresher, pregnancy occurs when the egg travels down the fallopian tubes and a sperm fertilizes that egg, creating an embryo. That embryo implants itself in the lining of the uterus. Abortion is not completely banned in the United States; however it is several restricted or outright banned - in some cases with exceptions - in many states. Options for the type of procedure performed are dependent on how far along you are in the pregnancy. There is legal confusion by doctors and hospitals on what they can and cannot do in cases of medical emergencies, such as an ectopic pregnancy. Honestly, the world is a scary place as bodily autonomy is stripped away. If you or somebody you know are in need of an abortion, visit https://www.abortionfinder.org/. This week's episode focuses on Body Positivity and how individuals can be effected by Body Dysmorphic Disorders and Eating Disorders. With almost 10 million Americans suffering from Body Dysmorphia and almost 30 million Americans suffering from some form of an Eating Disorder, it is time for an open and honest discussion about what so many silently struggle with on a daily basis. In an effort to address their own struggles with eating disorders, co-host RJ reflects on his years dealing with Bulimia Nervosa and the toll it took on his life and body. We encourage anyone who finds themselves in need of help to contact a professional at https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/help-support/contact-helpline We are only given one body in this life and it is mostly up to you on how it is treated. As the the aspiration of perfection continues to be more and more unattainable, many find themselves unable to see the beauty within. It is within this fallacy, this idea of 'perfection', that hinders us from seeing what so many others can, that we are meant to be whomever we want to be. Sometimes this acceptance is a long journey, rather than a short path, and many seem to struggle to reach this conclusion, but there is help out there. Never hesitate to discuss your feelings with those who are willing to listen or seek help from a professional when your apprehensions become dire. The only advice we can give is to stay positive and love yourself becomes sometimes the hardest critic is looking back at you in the mirror.
On this episode, Nikki and RJ will focus on the A in LGBTQIA+. Join them as they discuss asexuality and aromanticism, two orientations that are frequently dismissed and are only recently getting recognized as a valid part of the human sexuality experience. Nikki shares her personal experience as a sex coach who struggled with their lack of sexual attraction to others, her experiences with gatekeeping, and her journey to figuring out that it is okay to be asexual and aromantic in a sex-positive culture.
