Joel's music was new to us when he visited with Mike last year, but I knew his name as the mastermind behind some amazing programming that aired on CMT Canada. Joel's IMDB page is a who's who of Canadian music as he's produced or directed specials, shows, and videos for a lot of our favourites. Episode #1116 A bonus half hour allowed for a little extra Can-con Christmas music before jumping into yet another tribute to a fallen music icon. Lately, we've had to pay tribute to Todd Snider and Raul Malo, and we were hoping to not have to do it for a while, but the sad news arrived that Joe Ely had left us so an extended tribute was in order once again. Joe has been a pillar of the Texas roots scene for decades and has dabbled in a wide variety of styles and worked with just about everybody over the course of his career. He was also another gem of a human being. He will be missed but his many musical contributions will surely never be forgotten.
