New music & festival confirmations & dreams to start, then we play the 2016 game by looking back 10 years to a time when life seemed a little more simple and hopeful. I don't know how or where this 2016 trend started, but it was a good opportunity to look back at a very busy year with some real highlights. On today's show, we looked at highlights of shows & festivals, at least one disappointment, a few I couldn't attend, and a few that I can't believe I missed out on. playlist: https://wp.me/p1lizT-hph

Episode #1117 It's time to stop and look back at some of the musical highlights from a year that was kind of terrible in a lot of other ways. Fortunately, there was a lot of great music to help soothe the pain. I picked out as many highlights as I could fit into 3 hours but still have plenty left over for next week! I'd love to know what resonated with you this year! Please leave a comment, visit the contact page, or find me on social media and let me know what you liked & didn't like this year! This is one of our standby series of pre-recorded episodes that are meant to be timeless, so we can pop them into the schedule again some time when I can't be at the studio live, so enjoy this one now and again! playlist: https://wp.me/p1lizT-hoI

Episode #1116 A bonus half hour allowed for a little extra Can-con Christmas music before jumping into yet another tribute to a fallen music icon. Lately, we've had to pay tribute to Todd Snider and Raul Malo, and we were hoping to not have to do it for a while, but the sad news arrived that Joe Ely had left us so an extended tribute was in order once again. Joe has been a pillar of the Texas roots scene for decades and has dabbled in a wide variety of styles and worked with just about everybody over the course of his career. He was also another gem of a human being. He will be missed but his many musical contributions will surely never be forgotten. It would be impossible to fully cover the man's career in the time we had, but we heard a cross-section of his solo material, work with others, others covering his songs, him covering others' songs, and more! playlist: https://wp.me/p1lizT-hoC

I went through his playlists to find out which artists were played the most over the past 20 years and played a bunch of the most played artists and their most played songs. playlist: https://wp.me/p1lizT-hop

Episode #1109 Celebrating 20 or so years of Winnipeg's Park Theatre with highlights and memories of some of the many great shows that I've seen there, and a few that I regret missing. I've even got an hour of exclusive live recordings from shows I've attended over the years. Thanks to Erick Casselman and his staff for more than 20 years of being a leader in our music and arts communities! The Park is a privately owned venue that continually improves the experience for performers, attendees, and our city in general. It's really remarkable how much the venue has improved and contributed over the years. I look forward to many, many more great things to come at the Park, and their new sister venue, Sidestage, which has quickly become one of my favourite places to see a show! playlist: https://wp.me/p1lizT-hnN
