After a successful Pledge-O-Rama show, the boys are back at it on our normal thing this week talking #67, The Baby Jagr, Michael Frolik! This Czech forward plied his trade for 6 NHL teams, wearing #67 all the way around. Then, we catch our breath after an unreal game 7 from your Winnipeg Jets, who miraculously snatched victory from the jaws of defeat vs. the Blues from St Louis. With Dallas on the horizon, what will Round Two hold in store? Then in the 3rd, we give our predictions for the rest of the Round Two matchups — you're asking yourself, are these fellas experts? After some of our Round One predictions, you should know that the answer is “they certainly are not”.
It's the final day of UMFM's Pledge-O-Rama and I managed to once again weasel myself in between Joe & Twisty on The Wee Hours and Cretin Rob on Cretin Radio for 3 hours of bangers for breakfast on Mudge in the Morning! It's our last official day to ask for your help before we go back to doing what we do without asking anything of you. If you feel like showing your support and encouragement, your donation, no matter how seemingly small, is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who donated and once again made Tell the Band to Go Home's pledge drive a smashing success! I really appreciate hearing from so many people. In the latest episode of On Target, Mod Marty spins another sharp set of 60s soul, R&B, and garage gems. This week, he's also asking listeners to chip in during UMFM's Pledge-O-Rama to help keep independent radio alive. If you love the music, now's the time to show your support. Tune in, turn it up, and throw a few bucks their way. Oh hello out there, we're on the air! That's right, the fellas are in the booth this week for Pledge-O-Rama 2025, raising some funds for this great campus & community radio station that we air on each week! This year we'll play some hockey card wars with some vintage junk wax, and we feature the return of Talkin' Trivia with some very special guests — our Chicken pals Danny & Glen! If ya like the show, be sure to throw some dough our way — head to the UMFM website to make your donation today!

When I heard that my friend and mentor and UMFM mainstay for many years, John Prentice, was hoping to do his great show, Planet Mainstage, remotely this year, I knew I had to jump in and help out. John has been a part of the folk & roots music community longer than I've been alive, and certainly all of the time that I've been with UMFM, so it was an honour and a pleasure to be his board operator and help solicit some donations for UMFM's annual Pledge-O-Rama! Unlike commercial stations and other big community stations, we do not get paid to host our shows, so it truly is a labour of love. We also have no idea who is listening to our shows, so it's a real boost when we get opportunities like this, where we hear directly from listeners who appreciate what we do. I make my donation as a thanks to John's show every year, and I hope that many of you will do the same. Today, John played parts of some of his great interviews with the likes of Peter Yarrow, Stephen Fearing, Sam Baardman, and more. Episode #1085 It's time once again for UMFM's Pledge-O-Rama, the one week of the year where we ask for your help. In order to keep the station functioning the way we'd like and to make necessary improvements, we need an infusion of money that we hope you will be willing to help provide. More importantly for me, however, it's the one week where I get to learn some of the names of the people out there listening in. We truly have no idea who's listening or how many of you there are unless you let us know directly, and this is the best way to find out. Your donations, large or small, all show that what we do is important to you, and that means a whole lot. I adore putting together this show every week, and I'd gladly do it just for myself, but knowing that it means something to you is very rewarding and it helps motivate you to make the best show possible. As usual, the show includes a bunch of new music, memories of a truly great concert last night and we look ahead to a busy week of shows here and elsewhere. We also spin some classic Winnipeg music that doesn't get played anywhere other than on campus & community radio. We've also got a new interview with one of the greatest songwriters in Canada and one of my true heroes, Ron Hawkins, all about the new album from The Lowest of the Low, which is truly exciting. We've even got some tracks from the upcoming album to debut! Thanks for all of your support. If you didn't get a chance to donate during the show, Pledge-O-Rama is on all week and you could help us get to our station goal. Join me Friday morning from 6-9 am for Mudge in the Morning! Episode #1084 It's our pre-Pledge-O-Rama episode, so a look ahead at next week's PoR spectacular, which will feature an all-new interview with Ron Hawkins of The Lowest of the Low and music from their incredible upcoming album, Over Years and Overnight! We've also got a preview of next week's Carter Felker show, a bunch of great new music, a whiteout celebration in honour of our Winnipeg Jets, classic Winnipeg music, songs for Sara, and some Easter tunes! Episode #1037 A look back at an amazingly successful UMFM Pledge-O-Rama where we once again received a lot of love and support from our kind & generous listeners. If you missed out and still want to show your support, check out the Music Angels page for more info. Today, we're back to doing what we love to do, sharing great new music that I think you should hear, and encouraging you to check out live music! We also tried out a new segment, The 4:00 Feature, where I provide an in-depth look at an artist or album that I love and want to share with some music and stories. Today, we kicked it off with a look at the music of a longtime friend of the show, and someone who took the time to make a donation to Pledge-O-Rama, Leeroy Stagger! We heard some early stuff, some live stuff, and some rarities as an introduction to his catalogue, which I highly recommend exploring! leeroystagger.com leeroystagger.bandcamp.com substack.com/@leeroystagger playlist: https://wp.me/p1lizT-fCw
After last week's live Pledge-O-Rama show, your favourite hosts are back and recording the show from comfortable confines. We break down the great career of one Mr. Joseph Nieuwendyk — this hall of famer won cups with 3(!!!) different teams, helped bring the gold back to Canada in the 2002 Olympics and proved to be an excellent two-way centreman. Then we talk about the playoffs — first trying to dissect exactly what's gone wrong for your Winnipeg Jets and then talking about some of our other favourite playoff highlights and stories. No music today — instead we play you some of our favourite calls from the late, great Bob Cole. Truly Mr. Saturday Night, may he rest in peace.
Hello out there, we're live on the air! That's right, the fellas are in the booth this week for Pledge-O-Rama 2024, raising some funds for this great campus & community radio station that we air on each week! Episode #1036 This week is UMFM's Pledge-O-Rama, where you have the opportunity to let us know that you're listening and that you appreciate what we do. Every pledge, large or small, helps the station and lets us know that what we're doing matters to you. You can find more details on our Music Angels page or make your donation directly to UMFM: https://umfm.com/donate/pledgeorama Joining us once again was the wonderful Keri Latimer, who called in to talk about the stellar new album from Leaf Rapids and to show her support for campus & community radio. Later in the show, and for a special bonus hour, I was joined by John Prentice, host of Planet Mainstage on UMFM. We wanted to express our love & gratitude for our dearly departed Gail Comfort of the Comfort Cafe, and to play an hour of music with a Celtic edge to it, in honour of longtime UMFM mainstay, Lyle Skinner & Waxies Dargle. Lyle has been a dedicated host on UMFM since the beginning, and recently decided to wrap up his show. We felt it only fitting to encourage some pledges in his name. This episode is our annual Pledge-O-Rama episode asking for support for the small University radio station that makes On Target (and so much other valuable content) possible. If you're new to On Target then this episode is a great way to get a taste of what Mod Marty does here: 7", analogue vinyl is spun at 45rpms for about an hour a week. The idea is to explore all the musical types from the mid 1950s through to the early 1970s that shaped Rock and Soul for the years that followed. From New Breed, Popcorn and Doo Wop to Ska, Northern Soul and Maximum RnB. If you don't know what those terms mean then stick with us and we'll guide you from the roots, up the tree, to the labyrinth of branches that grew the music of the present day... Pop withstanding. Every year around this time, we head down to UMFM's studio to record a live on-air episode in support of the station's Pledge-O-Rama fundraiser. We've done it every year since 2013, but this year we ran into a conflict. Our scheduled live episode was the same night as our live Shoot First, Ask Questions Later event onstage at the Handsome Daughter ...so instead of a live episode, we aired (last Sunday) a clip show, essentially. We're calling it a "mixtape" because -- similar to last year's "mixtape" episode -- it's basically a compilation of some of the live performances we've had on the show over the past year. This certainly isn't a full document of the 2016 performances, though. There are a number of excellent live tunes that didn't fit due to time restrictions (and you can check those out here).

Our guests were Daniel Peloquin-Hopfner of excellent roots/folk trio Red Moon Road and UMFM's own program director Michael Elves

It’s Pledge-O-Rama time again! This is the one time of the year where we turn to the listeners for their help and hope that they will support our station and help us keep moving forward, and once again, they did! Thanks to everyone who supported us. In spite of the hectic, unpredictable nature of the show, we managed to do what we always do I tell you about new music and upcoming events, and play some of the best music in the world, music that doesn’t get nearly enough attention elsewhere.

NOTE: This was recorded and released years before the bulk of terrible accusations about one of its guests came out, and exists here in archival form only as a music interview from 2013 only, not as a way to condone (definitely not) any of his actions. The podcast is usually prerecorded in a casual basement setting, often weeks prior to appearing on this website and months before being aired on 101.5 UMFM in Winnipeg. This week, however, is UMFM's annual Pledge-O-Rama fund drive, so we made the trek down to the UMFM studios at the University of Manitoba to do a live on-air broadcast. Fortuitously, Dave Z, of such bands as The Brat Attack and Dead Peasants Revolt, happened to have one day left in his trip to Winnipeg from his new home in St. John's, Newfoundland, so he appeared as our guest. Former Brat Attack drummer -- and once and future Up n' Atom drummer -- Johnny Perrin made a surprise visit to the station while the show was underway and became guest number two. UMFM's pledge drive runs until Oct. 25, so depending when you read this, there may still be time for you to support campus/community radio. There are a ton of amazing incentives for making a pledge. Just check out the station's website and be sure to mention Witchpolice Radio if you're planning on donating!
We’ve been talking about it and preparing for it for a long time, and finally it’s here, UMFM’s first Pledge-O-Rama fall funding event. Things are a little different today, because instead of giving you the best music and information, we’re hoping that you’ll give to us and make a pledge to support the station. We’ve got plenty of prizes and incentives to dole out, and special live musical guests, Nathan!
It’s UMFM’s first Pledge-O-Rama, so this week, instead of giving to you by sharing great music and information, we’re looking for you to give something back by phoning in a pledge to help the station. In exchange, we’ve got plenty of great prizes and incentives to give away. And, best of all, we’ve got Del Barber and his band live in the studio to perform!

After a hugely successful Pledge-O-Rama event last week, we’re back to doing what we do best, playing great new music, upcoming exciting live shows, and giving you all of the information that you need. We’ve got plenty of all of the above on today’s show!

Pledge-O-Rama is behind us, so it’s time to get back to what we do best: playing great new music, telling you about upcoming shows, and spinning some classics along the way.
