Nous sommes le 24 février 1824, à Toulon. C'est ce jour-là qu'Hercule Florence embarque à bords de la frégate militaire « La Marie-Thérèse », direction le Brésil. Après une traversée de 45 jours, le jeune homme de vingt ans accoste à Rio de Janeiro, alors capitale de l'Empire du Brésil. La première impression est pénible : Hercule déplore l'hypocrisie d'un peuple qui affiche la charité tout en pratiquant l'esclavage. L'année suivante, réalisant son rêve d'exploration, Florence saisit l'opportunité de devenir second dessinateur et homme à tout faire au sein d'une expédition scientifique russe. De retour à Rio, vivant plusieurs mois dans la précarité, l'aventurier se perfectionne dans son art graphique. Puis il contracte un mariage très stratégique épousant les idées libérales de l'époque. On le retrouve dans la province de São Paulo où il va se consacrer à l'invention scientifique, technique et artistique... Seems like every day another performer has said the wrong thing or done the wrong thing. And if we like them, that's just more spice in the sauce. And if we don't, we just hate them even more. But the controversy wheel just keeps on spinning, regardless of how you feel. It could be a manufactured scandal, like a diss track, or something out of control, like an act of violence. Sometimes it's hard to know if it was planned or not - you know, like when one singer pulls the top off another singer during the Super Bowl halftime show.
