Welcome to the 5th and final episode of the MeDUSA Community and Well-being Blue Week Podcast series! Today Sally is capping out the series with a candid chat about adjusting to clinical years in the midst of a pandemic with two third-year Deakin Medicine students – Miriam Brownstein and Oli Le Grice. As well as the impact of COVID, the discussion goes into recognising the recurrence of mental illness, how the Deakin School of Medicine is here to help, and just how good surfing is to calm the mind - or anything that allows you to be in nature! We also shed some light on the stigma surrounding mental illness and the misconception that it might impact your future career. As always, hit us up on community@medusa.org.au for comments, feedback or suggestions! We'd love to hear from you.

Today I met with Dr. Ajeet Singh, Deakin Medical School Psychiatrist to talk about medical student's most common presentations. We touched on why students burn out and how to prevent it. We also talked about the most common psychological types of medical students (namely narcissists and approval seekers) and what do they in particular struggle with the most in medical school. Dr. Ajeet provided some great tips for medical students on how to reduce stress and live free from it. In his own example, he shared the pathway in medicine and his own successes and failures with mental health. I hope you enjoy this episode! Personally, I found it so useful especially now as we approach exam season :)
